You lived with your daddy and Uncle Ludwig...thou most of the time it was just you and your uncle. Your dad only came home to pass out after drinking all day. You waited at the door for him to come home. It wasn't long before he was staggering up the driveway. He ruffled your hair as he walked by you. You followed him to the basement door.
"Gut night, daddy!" You said smiling.
"Night, sveetie." He said in his slurred language
Your smile disappear as he walked out of your sight.
"I vish daddy vould valk a little straighter. It makes me dizzy vatching him." You tell your uncle.
"Jou have zhat graduation from 5th grade tomorrow right." He said changing the subject.
"Ja...can jou make sure a daddy is zhere to see me."
"...ja..."
The next day you were dressed up and waiting for your name to be called. You saw your uncle but not your daddy.
"Vhere is he?"
Your name was called and you walked up almost in tears. You took your diploma.
With only a few more names to be called your daddy walked in staggering horribly. All eyes were on him.
Your face turned red with embarrassment.
When it was all over you walked over to your uncle and dad.
"I'm proud of jou, (your name)." Your uncle said.
Your dad ruffled your hair.
You no longer could hold back the tears, no longer able to hold your tongue.
"Jou veren't here!" You shouted at your dad. "Jou vere too busy get drunk to come here! Just go back to zhe bar since jou never vhat to be near me!"
You bared your face in your uncle's legs.
"(Your name)?"
"Jou should go, Gilbert."
"Vest?"
You walked way with your uncle.
"Hey, (Your name) was that your dad you just yelled at?" A boy from your class asked.
"Nien!" You said too embarrassed of him to say otherwise.
That night you waited for him to come home and as always he walked by you and ruffled your hair.
You did feel kinda bad about what you said but your uncle always told you if you mean what you say then don't apologize for it, it only makes you a lier.
"Gut night, sveetie."
"Night daddy...I still love jou."
