A/n: Don't mind the chapter name, I just...I don't know what I'm doing with my life...enjoy!
Also, we are officially in Oklahoma now, YAY!
------------------------------------------------------------
Katie's POV:
After a dreadful night in a cheap motel,("It's a comfy pillow, what more could you want?" "Oh, I dunno, the bed?!") we finally got to Garber, Oklahoma. It was a small town but looked very nice, had a lot of green.
"Feel anything Peter?" Travis asked. Peter looked around the small town and nodded.
"Yeah...I feel something but I, I can't place it. I can't tell if it's the flower or monsters."
"It's alright, take your time Peter." Miranda smiled. "We have the whole month."
'I don't know 'bout you Kat, but I ain't willin' to spend a whole month here.' Sam mumbled. I chuckled quietly, looking at the dog that was chasing its tail.
"What's so funny Katie-Kat?" Travis asked and I pointed at the dog.
"It's so cute." I cooed.
"What kind of dog is that?"
"That has to be a dooperpooper[*1]."
"That's not a real dog, first of all, and second, it's an Australian Shepherd." Peter sighed.
"If it's Australian, what's it doing in America?" Connor asked.
"Oh my Gods, Connor, you can't just ask an Australian what they're doing in America," Travis said.
"What kind of dog breed is that?" I asked Peter, pointing to the one on the other side o the road.
"That's an Irish Wolfhound."
"I like it, it's furry looking."
"They get really big; when they stand on their hind feet they're as tall as a grown man. If you get one in the near future, be careful because they'd be able to knock you to the ground with love." Peter chuckled.
"I'll take note of that," I mumbled. 'If I live that long.'
'Kat...'
'Sorry Sammy, I just...what if I died on this mission? Wouldn't I be free, finally get rid of these demons inside me?'
'Well...no. What about everyone you'll leave behind?'
'They'll forget about me soon after I'm gone.'
'No they wouldn't chuckaboo.'
We parked outside of what looked like a restaurant/gas station hybrid and got out of our truck.
"My ass hurts," Peter whined as he got out of the driver's seat.
"TMI!" Miranda smacked the satyr.
"Let's get some food, I'm starving."
We entered the restaurant named Simple Simon's Pizza[*2]. It wasn't big, but it wasn't small. There weren't that many people in here, but I shrugged it off and we sat down on a table by the entrance. Connor went to go order a pizza while we talked.
"This place looks empty, why would Persephone send us here?" Travis frowned.
"Maybe we went to the wrong place?" I asked.
"No, she definitely said Garber, Oklahoma. This is where a Supernatural episode was filmed." Miranda nodded.
"Well, so far there's nothing." Peter frowned, but he twitched and looked outside the doors. "Spoke too soon, I feel a presence somewhere in the town."
Connor walked over with a large cheese pizza. "I didn't know what everyone would and wouldn't like so I just got it plain."
"Thank you, Connor." I smiled and took a slice of pizza.
"Katie, we gotta sacrifice something." Peter frowned. I shook my head.
"I forgot to do it one day at home and was scared out of my mind before I realized no one was going to strike me down. Doing it this once won't be bad, but I agree that we should if we want good luck on this mission." I said, taking a bite of my pizza. Miranda stared at me. "What?"
"Sometimes I wonder how you're still alive." She sighed. I felt a pain in my chest.
"Pure dumb luck." I smiled and nudged her. She smiled back.
'Kat, you alright? I felt the pain in my own chest.' Sam said.
'Sammy.' I sighed mentally as I continued to eat.
'Why don't I join you on your mission?' I started to cough. Miranda handed me a water cup and poured me some soda Travis ordered. I drank the soda gratefully.
'What do you mean 'join you'?! You can do that?!'
'Yeah, just take my human form and pretend to be a resident.'
'Won't others know you're not a resident though?'
'Not if I use the mist. C'mon Kat, I'll make a fake house and everything that you guys can live in and you just need to rent it.'
'I guess, but how would you meet us?'
'I'll walk right in and get myself a pizza and table. I'll wing it from there. What do ya say Kat?'
'Why not, go ahead.' I ate more pizza, smacking Miranda before she could take the slice I wanted.
The door opened and someone stepped in. "Hey Simon," I heard a familiar voice say.
"Hey there Samuel, you want your regular?"
"You know it." Miranda looked over at Samuel and I saw her eyes practically pop out of her head.
"Oh my Gods, Katie look." She whispered. I turned discreetly and sure enough, there was Sammy. He waited at the counter, leaning on it.
'Looking good Sammy.' I giggled in my head. We made eye-contact and I froze. He smiled at me.
'Now Kat, I appreciate the compliments but I'm a married man.'
'What are you married to?'
'Food.' I rolled my eyes and looked away from him, going back to eating my pizza. I heard the chair from the table behind me move so I turned again and saw Sammy staring at me with a smile. I felt a blush on my face.
"Hey there, newcomers, I'm Samuel. I can tell you guys aren't from around here. Do you have a room yet at Santiago's Motel Loco[*3]?" He asked smiling but looked specifically at me.
"N-No, not really." I shook my head.
"Well he gets full pretty quickly, but if he's full by the time you ask for rooms, give me a call." He handed me a card and I took it.
"Stop flirting with the new people so early, Samuel." He laughed and kept looking at me.
"I don't know Simon, I think I got a catch here." He winked. I giggled nervously, feeling my face grow hotter.
"Well how about you catch your food and go off to work, it's not the weekend." Simon laughed. Samuel got up and gave me a final wink.
"Don't forget to give me a call, if its full." He left and I turned back around. Everyone stared at me and I blushed harder. gods, I must've looked like a tomato.
"Wh-What?!" I squeaked.
"You just got hit on by a total hottie!" Miranda squealed.
"U-Uhm, uh, what? I wouldn't say he was 'hitting on me', I'd say he was just being friendly, I mean, we're tourists." I waved her off.
"No, he was definitely hitting on you." Peter nodded.'
"You guys would look cute together," Connor commented. I blushed and threw my empty plastic cup at him.
"Shut up, no we wouldn't, right Travis?" I asked, looking at him for help. Travis was frowning at me. "Travis?"
"Yeah, no kidding, you wouldn't match with a good looking guy." He said plainly. I felt myself deflate. Travis seemed to snap out of it.
"I didn't mean it like that! You-You're very pretty Katie-Kat, it's just he looks out of your-"
"I get it, Travis. I think I'll get some air, it's getting hot in here." I stood up from my seat and walked out the door with my bag in hand.
I leaned against the truck and frowned. "Hey miss, I don't think I caught you name in there."
I looked up at a smiling Sammy and smiled back.
"Kathrine."
"Can I call you Kat?"
"I don't see why not. Your name is Samuel?"
"Call me Sammy. Nice to meet you, Kat. May I ask why a lovely lady like yourself has traveled to a small town like this?"
"Cut the formalities, Sammy, I wanna talk like a normal person." He laughed as if I just told a funny joke.
"So, what Miranda and Travis said-"
"Not that, tell me about your fake life."
"I'm the son of the mayor and work at Simon's. I'm a graduated individual and am working to save money for college. I want to go to Northwestern University for a Writing Degree and want to be a famous writer.[*4]"
"Sounds like you have a good life. What about in Oskait?"
"I'm your childhood friend and worked my way to the top to be your personal assistant. You didn't want anyone but me to be your assistant so you mother and father agreed and that's that."
"You have thought of everything." I smiled. Sammy leaned in.
"Not how to hook you up with Travis yet."
"Oh Hades no! Godly parent? I'm guessing you're still a demigod."
"Hermes. The mayor is female."
"Siblings?"
"Only child. As a treat, I have a dog at the house. Oh, I checked Santiago's already, no rooms open."
"Thanks for the information, Sammy."
"No problem, Kat."
"Ahem." Someone coughed. I looked behind Sammy and saw Travis. "Geeze Katie-Kat, I wouldn't expect you to be flirting with a random stranger when I'm right here."
"Ah, you're her boyfriend then? I don't know much guy friends this protective of their girl-friends." Sammy smirked at me, backing away.
"N-" I shook my head but was interrupted.
"Yes, yes I am." Travis came over to me and wrapped an arm around my shoulder, glaring heatedly and Sammy.
"Well good to know, it seems I have no work here. Oh, I checked Santiago's, he's full. I'm not so if you guys still need a place to stay-"
"You're not full? That's weird, you seem to be full of shit." Sammy laughed and I smacked Travis.
"Travis, shut up." I looked over at Sammy. "We'll be happy to take those rooms we talked about. Will your mother mind?"
"Nah, we set up this business before she became mayor, she won't mind as long as you follow the house rules don't hurt Bambino."
I snorted. "Bambino[*5]?"
"Our puppy pomsky[*6]. Here's a pic." He took out a phone and the picture was the screen saver.
"Awe, how cute." I cooed.
"What about your dad?" Travis asked. I looked up at Sammy and saw his smile falter a bit.
"I don't know my dad. My mom said he was special and very important in a trading business but they were just a fling and it's not like you can send Fathers Day cards to a guy who doesn't know you exist and when you don't even know his name."
I stared at Sammy sadly, knowing this what probably what his mother told him when he was alive.
"Sorry," Travis mumbled wholeheartedly.
"You didn't know, how could you? Anyways, here's the address to my house I'll see you guys later."
Sammy handed me a paper and walked away into Simon's as the rest of the crew walked out.
"Well guys, we got a place to stay for the night." I smiled, holding up the paper.
"Let's explore, we might find something," Peter said. We all nodded and off we went on our quest to find my mother's flower.
------------------------------------------------------------
"There's nothing here! We went to the wrong place!" Connor groaned. I smacked him. "Ow!"
"We aren't in the wrong place, I know we aren't and so does Peter, there's just some magic blocking us from finding the flower. Feel anything Peter?" I asked, looking over at the shy satyr.
"Nothing yet Katie."
"Well let's keep walking."
"When did you become the leader of the group?" Travis asked.
"When none of us stepped up to take charge. Now shut up Travis." Miranda smacked him.
"Guys, I think I feel something coming from over there." Peter pointed down Garber road towards what looked like a house in the distance.[*7]
We started walking down the road towards the buildings in the distance, a strange aura surrounding me.
"Do you guys feel that?" I asked.
"Feel what?" Peter asked.
'Feel what Kat?' Sammy asked.
'You've been quiet.' I commented.
"I felt a strange aura up ahead."
"Probably monsters," Travis commented.
'They're not monsters, Kat. They're something strong.'
'Oh no.' I mentally groaned.
'Oh, I've been setting up the house, that's why I've been gone.'
'Ah, thank you, but that doesn't compare to the probable death up ahead.'
'No need to be so cold Kat.' Sammy whined.
We reached the building and found two houses and a workshop of sorts.[*8]
"Hey guys, look!" Connor pointed towards a workhouse and we all looked at the direction he was pointing. "The flower should be-AHHHHHH!"
