Two weeks passed since the dinner with the Wolfic family, and there has not been a single phone call from them. Personally I was glad there was not, there were many reasons behind it. First the Jayden family had an energy around them which did not click with mine, second their son Cloud and his nerve wrecking gazes were extremely hard to outcast from my mind. I would be a fool if I said Cloud did not lurk like a shadow in my thoughts! He was there at times I least expected him to appear, but he was there, his questioning looks, the way he talked to me in the car, all were simple, normal, yet mysterious.
All in all they were not my type of people.
My life was back on track, old routines, the same tasteless and uneventful life. Slowly I began accepting the fact that Wolfic family was just a dream, a dream I forgot, completely. Boy, was I wrong.
**
Standing between the rows I was looking through the supplies that had just arrived, taking note of the prices and the necessary dates.
"Hello there," said a familiar voice behind me. I looked over my shoulder to see, Tybalt and Alina smiling down at me.
"Hey!" I beamed, standing up. "What a surprise, what are you guys doing here?" I was really shocked to see them here, they appeared out of blue, at my work place.
"We were just passing by, I remembered you told me about your work place," Tybalt smiled down at me. I had to smile back, this man was a mountain compared to my height.
"Why don't you guys come in my office?" I offered, removing the hair that had fallen in the process of standing up, from my eyes.
"Oh, no we don't mean to disturb you, we were-" I cut Alina mid-sentenced.
"At least have a drink?"
"We would love to, but some other time, honey," Alina said apologetically.
"So what can I do for you?" I joked, making the huge man laugh. It was a deep rumble from his chest it felt like a volcano eruption!
"You are not going to let us leave until we buy something," he teased.
"It's what is required from a manager," I answered between laughs.
"Will you join us for coffee?" Alina suddenly asked, gently rubbing her husband’s arm.
"I would love to but I can't come now, the new supplies just arrived and I have to check them,"
"How about when you are done?" Alina added, looking at me expectantly. I gave it a little thought then nodded, "Sure, where can I meet you?"
"The new cafe next block would be great," Tybalt informed me.
Short farewell was said then I resumed my tiring work. The clock ticked four o’clock in the afternoon and I almost jumped from my chair, grabbed my bag, house keys, and my jacket. Damon was nowhere to be found so I left without seeing him. He was not around all day, then again there were many days Damon was out since he owned this place.
The cafe Tybalt told me about was near from where I worked so I decided to walk and regretted the decision as soon as I got out of the supermarket. The rain poured down on us as though sky and clouds were shedding mercy. I huffed, glaring at the droplets as they fell on my shoes, soaking my toes. Then I stepped forward, trying my best not to get wet.
People were running to hide under shelters or trees, cars wheezed by to get home quickly, and here I was, walking in the rain, hiding under the shop shelters and my bag, looking like a complete idiot. Suddenly my eyes fell upon something, at first I thought I could not see clearly as the raindrops soaked my eyelashes, then looking the second time I noticed a man leaning against a tree, casually, with a hood hiding his face from the rain. I mentally scowled at him and kept walking.
What kind of a person stays calm when it’s raining so fast?
The feeling when you think you are alone but you are definitely not alone was creeping on my skin like a disease. I shot a glance over my shoulder, but nothing. My heart pumped faster in my chest. I fastened my pace, and tightened my hand on my bag. Few seconds passed of mental fear and torture so I glanced back again, seeing something that made my heart shrink back and throat go dry!
Someone was following me, the man I had seen few minutes ago, was strolling on the street. He turned his face away from me as I looked at him. Afraid, I began to take longer strides. What seemed like eternity but in reality it was only a minute, I turned around a corner, leaned back on the wall taking air gulps. Slowly but very carefully I peaked at him and to my utter amazement, he was there waiting for me to do exactly what I was doing right now.
Here cold sweat poured from my forehead, and warm water swam in my eyes. Then I jogged, jogged for my life, for my safety. Various questions and disturbing thoughts rang in my brain like a twirl of hurricane. I grabbed my cell phone from my bag with shaky hands and began dialing Damon’s number. A yelp of relief escaped from my lips when the cafe came in view. 'Costa' I decided against it and kept walking like the world was on end.
Take a glance Faith.
My mind screamed but courage was what I lacked. I had to see if he was still following me or actually stalking me. I crossed a mud puddle then looked around again, there he was! Biting my lip I ran for the café, which was only few feet away from me, regardless of the rain. When I grabbed the door knob and got in, I twirled around to see if the man still had guts to follow me.
No one was there!
Standing there on my shaking feet I tried to stable my heavy breathing, cleaned the water and sweat from my forehead with the back of my jacket sleeve. I ran my hands over my face many times to recollect my strength. Never in my life have I harmed anyone on purpose, never stole a thing and always stayed away from trouble, then why on earth was he stalking me?
Minutes ticked as I took in the cafe, people were gathered around the tables and sipping on their hot coffee, getting cozy and comfortable. The place was not crowded, but not empty either. Looking at their calm postures I envied them, I cannot subside fear easily from my heart, it takes time so I tired, with the last sigh I stepped further in.
Finding a giant in the midst of dwarfs is not hard, as soon as I saw Tybalt's large figure I knew it was him. When I walked up to them he stood up, making the cafe look tiny. People around us for once raised their eyes from what they were eating and stared at Tybalt in awe. Amazingly the man never paid attention to the looks he received. His eyes were focused on me so I smiled.
He pulled the chair next to Alina for me, "Gentleman huh," I tried to tease, but I knew he could sense something odd from me, nevertheless he smirked and sat back.
The people around us slowly tore their eyes away from Tybalt as he drank his coffee, I shook my head and placed my bag near my foot. "Faith, are you okay?" came Alina's waited question. That second the man in the hood flashed before my eyes and a cold, nerve penetrating shiver ran down my spine. I smiled a fake smile and nodded, unable to speak, I knew if I uttered a word my cover would be uncurtained.
She stared at me for a while pushing me to speak, I gathered my courage and said, "Just a little tired from all the work," Alina gave a slow nod, her sharp and wise eyes watching me carefully. I have never liked how the waitress interrupted the moment in cafe's but right then I was thankful of her to take our orders.
I quickly told her what I wanted then averted my eyes from Tybalt toward the windows. The warm air in the cafe had the windows condensed, now and then a drop of rain swimmed cleaning a thin line but soon the clouds were back on the glass. Suddenly feeling cold I pulled my jacket tight around my body, flipping the collar to protect the exposed neck.
"So Faith, how was your day?" Tybalt started the conversation.
"Pretty calm," I lied, "What about yours?" I sipped water from the glass in front of me, realizing how very dry my throat was.
"Interesting if you ask me, I took a day off and helped my wife with her boutique, not that I know anything about ladies clothes," Tybalt chuckled, making me smile still my eyes scanned the room for any danger and as far as I knew there was none.
The waitress brought our orders. I sighed in a hushed voice as the warmth of the cup traveled through my skin. Tybalt brought topics from all around the world, they both were very easy to chat with, Alina she was very gentle but Tybalt no matter how gentle he was, his aura terrified me.
"Don't tell me you are single?" Tybalt joked, nearly chocking me as I gulped my coffee.
"Sadly I am," was my reply. Something flashed in his eyes, he knew I saw that, the clever man he was, just grinned and shot another inquiry.
"Were you always single?"
I chuckled with a shake of my head. "Not always, I had my past," I answered then decided it was time I asked them something. "How did you guys meet, I mean_" I stopped biting my lip.
Alina threw her head back and laughed, causing the curls of her hair cascade on her shoulder. Tybalt rested his cup back on the table and smiled. "You mean how I met a man like him, a man who looks like a maniac at first, now that Faith, is a nice question," Alina said in between her laughs. Tybalt raised an eyebrow at me and smirked making my cheeks go red.
Alina told me how much she hated Tybalt back when they were in high school and college. Tybalt being the rich boy had always been arrogant and cocky whereas Alina outspoken and fearless. Alina said things calmed down between the two enemies when her mother had passed away in the second year of college. Tybalt had then approached her, comforted her.
"Yeah who would have thought the man who loved to make my life miserable would make it worth living for. After that day Tybalt and I talked more, sure it was awkward in the start but we did, things changed and here we are now," Alina explained, looking at her husband for a second then back at me.
"Mrs. Jayden is really lucky to have a daughter in law like you, Alina," I praised making them both laugh.
"No Faith I am lucky to have them, am sure you have noticed how very weird our family is, with us all living together and all, traditions with time are forgotten but Mrs. Jayden wants to follow the path her ancestors followed, she believes being unite is their greatest power." Alina said genuinely.
"It sure is wonderful," I muttered.
Time passed and my watched screamed 6:00PM. It was not raining like earlier, though the thought of going out there alone, made the hair on the back of my neck rise.
"No it is okay Tybalt, you do not have to drive me home," I argued with the huge man who stood in front of me like a mountain.
"Faith, it’s raining and I won't take no for an answer. I am dropping you at your home," Tybalt pressed, raising that scared eyebrow, I gulped then nodded. He grinned in victory, trust me no man on earth can argue with him, his features broke the walls of your courage.
Walking to where his car was, I looked around every other second. What if the man was waiting for me to get out, what if he attacked? My eyes on their own record traveled to Tybalt, I looked at him, his towering body, the way his huge biceps reflex with each move of his hand, the way his large feet splashed the water with each step. I knew deep inside there is not a mother who gave birth to a child that could take him down. Well not easily!
