Jane pov...
I got a call from my old commander sergeant Major Watson, he was calling to check on me and see how I have been going with my injuries. After he found out that I have PTSD he suggested that I go to a local place called the Truce Veteran Centre to get help is they dealing with helping soldiers adjust back to the civilian life and deal with any problems they have.
I head to the centre and get shown around and start talking to some of them. I am introduced to the program and learn all the different ways they help to help. I stay for the day talking to people, trying some different ways they have and being part of a support group. The place is really good so I will keep going back and getting the help that they give. I'm not going to tell the others that I am coming here as I don't want to seem weak or I can't deal with my problems, I don't want them to worry about me more than they have been.
I keep coming back to the centre when I am free and get to experience the different types of therapy they have. One that really helps me is a simulation of being back where I can see what is happening but I know it's not real.
Another really good thing is that they have group therapy sessions where all of us can share what we went through, how we are hoping and share advice with others. I am glad that I came here as it helps and I can see small changes in myself from coming here and helping myself and the others here.
After a few weeks of coming here my old commander comes in to check on the place, apparently he helps to run it and will come in every few months if he can to see if he can help. He talks to me about how the centre is helping me and how my injuries are. My arm has finally come out of the cast yesterday so it's good to finally be able to use my arm properly. We talk about me possibly getting my job back at BPD as long as I pass all the tests. He says "good luck and if you don't there is always a place here for more workers and you can easily get a job here if you wish to"
I nod and say "thanks, I will keep that in mind"
We talk for a little bit longer before he has to go and as I am finished for the day I head back to my apartment.
Authors note...
Sorry for taking so long to update.
I just realised that I never added what inspired this book. I first got the idea from listening to Hero of War by Rise Against.
