"Which way now?" I asked the blonde who was walking beside me. She shot me a look with those big blue eyes.
"Karlie Kloss, I think you can see better than me right now." She smiled. I smiled back at her, hoping she could see me well enough so she could actually see it.
"Are you smiling?" She asked.
"Are you really that blind still?" I giggled, taking her hand in mine. She smiled and then just nodded.
"Do you think it will get better still?"
"I sure hope so." She said, her face a bit worried.
"Well lets just hope then." I said. "Now, which way do we go?"
We were standing in the middle of the woods, it was already completely dark outside and the moon was hiding behind various thick, grey clouds. We stood in front of these two signs were the muddy path split in two.
"I have no idea." Taylor stated drily.
"Seriously? We came all the way here to discover that you don't remember where you dad's cave is." I laughed.
She let go of my hand then and looked away. "Please don't use that word." She said softly.
'Which word?' I thought to myself.
"Dad." She said, as if reading my mind once again. "Don't say dad."
"Oh.. Okay.. uhmm why not, if I may ask?" I mumbled, staring at her face in the dark forest.
"He used to always want me and Austin to call him dad. But he was never a real dad to me." She explained, looking away from me.
Who's Austin?
"He was mean to everyone I knew. My mom, my brother, my friends.. everyone." She continued. A tear made its way down her face. "I hate him." She said softly.
"Im so sorry, Taylor." I said, stepping closer to her. She looked at me then, tears in her blue eyes, and let me hug her. She sniffed and growled for a few times before letting go of me again. "My father is a monster. I hate him with every fiber in my body. He made my mom's life miserable, he killed Austin, he made sure Dianna got killed. He is evil, Karlie. Pure evil." She grabbed my arm tightly and squeezed it a few times before letting it go and looking away again.
She had a brother? He killed her brother? But why?
I shivered at the thought and she looked at me again.
"He killed him because he was a match with a girl from the whites. They were.. so perfect together.. so happy.." She said softly.
Why did she know what I was thinking?
"Wasn't your mom one of the whites?" I asked, confused by all this wolf talk.
"Yeah.." Taylor sighed. "But back then the whites and the grey's were still okay with each other. That all changed though, because my dad wanted more power and made sure no one got in his way."
"How do you mean?"
"Well.. He just killed every single wolf or human that got in his way and he still does that. Even his own family."
"Wow." I breathed. "So who is Adam in this whole story then?"
She looked at me with her light blue eyes and more anger flowed into her face. She sat down on a big rock underneath the two signs.
"Adam.." She sighed. "is a son of my father's best friend.. or well.. business partner. David is his name. David and my father, they used to hunt for.. humans.. together."
"Oh my god.." I gasped, hearing Taylor's stories with my mouth hanging half open. "And Adam then?"
"When he was still young, he stayed home. But later he started going with them. David died, but Adam took over his job."
"Which is?" I asked, truly terrified of these creepy wolf people.
"Working for my dad to kill whoever is in his way."
"And what the hell does Adam get out of all this?" I asked.
"He is one of the black's. My father promised him, that he will be welcomed into the grey pack if he becomes my match."
"But why would your father want him to become your match?"
"Because I am one of the grey's according to my father, and I cant be seen with a human born. Therefore I cant be together with a human born and have to be a match with Adam." The blonde explained, looking at me now and seeming to relax a bit.
"So you being together with this psychopathic killer is better then you being together with.. me?"
Taylor let out a dry laugh then. "Yep."
"Crazy." I exclaimed.
"His family standard needs to be held high. So that means every single one in his way, will get murdered."
"Great." I said, letting out a nervous laugh.
What did I get myself into?
"Im really sorry.." Taylor signed as if reading my mind once more.
Strange..
"Tay?" I asked. She looked up at me.
"Yeah?"
"I know its a weird question and I've asked you before.."
"Just ask. I know what you want to ask." She interrupts me.
"Can you read minds?" I asked quickly then, a bit embarrassed by my own question.
"No." She said then, but she was smiling.
Why is she smiling?
"Why are you smiling?"
"Only yours." She said then.
"Huh? What?"
"I can only read your mind." She said, looking down again.
"You.. what.. how.. why?"
"Im sorry.." She said, getting up from the rock she was sitting on and walking towards me. "I know I should've told you earlier."
She reached out an arm towards me but I stepped backwards. "Well, why the hell didn't you?"
"Sor-"
"You could read my mind all this time?" I asked, quite a lot of anger in my voice.
"Since I scratched you."
Thats when my anger boiled over.
"WHAT?! Are you fucking kidding me?!" I shouted, throwing my arms up in the air wildly.
"Karlie, relax please.." She said calmly, stepping closer towards me, her hand reaching out to grab mine. I took yet another step backwards.
"DONT.. don't touch me." I hissed at her. My limbs started hurting and my eyes started burning. I knew that if I didn't calm down, I would wilden and shift into my wolf form.
"Okay, okay.." Taylor said then, holding her hands up and walking backwards slowly. I just felt so.. betrayed. She knew what I was thinking the whole time and didn't tell me. She knew how I felt about her the whole time. She knew I had wanted to kiss her. She knew everything. All my thoughts.
"My thoughts.." I breathed. "Are mine."
"I know. I know.." She said, her voice upset and quivering. "I didn't want it to happen okay? Not again."
"Again?" I hissed. "What again?" I knew my voice sounded angry and that I was probably hurting her with it but right then, I was just done with this girl's secrets.
"I could read.. Dianna's mind too." She said, her face hurt. "I don't know why Karlie. But I can okay and I'm sorry for not telling you.. but I was scared I would scare you away."
"Perfect." I said, sarcasm overflowing. "Well thanks a lot for telling me now!" I shouted, punching a tree nearby. "Just great." I growled. The hand that I had just smashed into the tree started bleeding. I wiped my hand on my jeans and stepped forward.
Taylor sat down on that same rock again and looked down at her feet.
"Please get off that damn rock and lets go." I said annoyedly, already walking and taking the path to the left.
I heard her get up from the rock quickly and follow me.
Great, she can read my fucking mind. Awesome.
Oh, she can probably hear this too.
Hello and welcome.
I heard a sniff beside me then. I looked at her and saw that she was crying.
Why is she crying? I should be the sad one now.
"Just.." She started. "Please.. please don't leave me?"
I knew it was a question but I couldn't answer. Not yet. I was too angry. I looked away from her and towards the ground. We were walking through the dark woods in the quick pace now. Both wearing black coats, looking all 'mysterious'.
"Dianna died the same day she found out."
"Huh? What?" I said, looking at her again.
"She died the same day she found out that I could read her mind."
"What does that have to do with this?" I asked. I knew the question was cold and not thought trough and I immediately regretted when I spoke the words. Taylor looked away from me quickly and I heard her let out a soft sob. "Sorry.." I mumbled. "I mean, I don't really get the connection."
"Dianna got killed the same day I told her. We fought that day, about.. this same thing." She explained. "We fought and then.. she got killed." Big tears were rolling down her face now. "I was never able to say how much I loved her that day. I was never able to say how beautiful she was. It was.." Taylor fell onto the ground then. "It was all too late. I was too late" She sobbed.
I looked at her. Laying there on the cold, muddy ground. And felt so sorry about every mean thing I had said to her. This girl had already been through so much shit, she didn't deserve to be yelled at. She didn't deserve anything bad to be said or done to her, ever. I knew I had gone too far, I had become way too angry at the blonde. I kneeled down and lifted her off the ground, surprised by my own strength.
"Im sorry.." I heard her whisper. "Sorry.."
"No, Im sorry." I said into her ear, holding her tightly against me. "Im sorry Taylor, I let out my anger on you. I shouldn't have done that okay? Its not your fault. Its okay.."
She put both of her feet on the ground then and hugged me as tight as she could. "I love you Karlie." She whispered into my ear. "And you're beautiful." She added and then let go of me.
"Im not planning on dying today, Taylor." I said, smiling faintly at her while wiping the tears off her cheeks.
"Im so scared." She said. "I need you."
"I need you too." I said, genuinely scared myself too.
What is even the plan? Do we have a plan?
"My father's crown."
"What?" I asked, confused about what she had said.
"My father has a this crown. It contains the energy that makes him so powerful." The blonde explained, holding my hands now. "All the people my father ever killed, their energy is in there. If we destroy the crown, we take away all of his energy. He will never be able to hurt anyone anymore. And that includes you and I."
"A crown? Really? How original. What is this, the 18th century?" I said, making the blonde smile slightly. "How do we destroy it? And what exactly happens when we will?"
Taylor signed deeply. "We bring it to the wizard who created the damn thing." She said.
"Wizards? No way? Come on, wizards don't exist right? Tell me they don't, please?"
She smiled apologetically at me then. "Sorry.. uhmm well anyway. My father will not be pack leader anymore and will loose his power. He will also lose the ability to shift into a wolf."
"No way?!" I exclaimed. "Thats awesome, he will be so pissed."
Taylor smiled. "Lets just get that crown first okay?"
I nodded and smiled at her. "Yes." I leaned forward and kissed her forehead. She let out a soft growl and the small smile on her face grew a tiny bit bigger.
"We can do it." I said softly as I leaned in for yet another hug. She held onto me tightly and I felt her nod into my neck. "Come on." I said, letting go of her and taking her hand in mine. "Lets go."
We walked further into the dark woods, holding each other's hands tightly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What did you say?" Taylor asked.
"Huh, I didn't say anything." I said, looking over at the blonde. She had pulled her hood over her head so I could only see her shining blue eyes in the darkness.
"Oh, okay." She mumbled. "I think I'm going crazy with all these thoughts of yours."
I giggled. "You spy."
"Not on purpose. Believe me, it would be a whole lot calmer in my head if I couldn't hear them." She stated drily.
I laughed this time, loudly.
"Shhhh." She giggled. "God, you're so loud."
"I hear that more often." I smirked at her. She slapped my arm then and laughed. She looked beautiful, smiling and laughing in the faint moonlight. Her eyes looked so happy in that moment, I hoped I could make her happy like this for a long, long time.
"Says the virgin." Taylor laughed.
"Says who?" I asked, faking being offended by raising my eyebrows and leaving my mouth open a bit.
"I can read your mind, remember?" The blonde giggled.
"Oh yeah.." She leaned towards me and kissed my cheek. I wasn't expecting this action and so I jumped to the side slightly, the sudden affection surprising me.
"What was that for?" I asked, squeezing her hand lightly.
"You're cute." She said matter of factly. "Oh, and funny." She added, looking forward again, scanning the dark path with her shining eyes.
And I didn't know if it was a shadow or a thing but suddenly we were both standing still, staring into the darkness.
"You.. you saw that too? Right?" I asked, my voice slightly shaking.
"Get behind that tree." Taylor whispered, pointing towards a big tree to the left of us.
"But-" I started.
"Karlie, now!" The blonde hissed. I let go of her warm hand and quickly made my way over to the thick tree that was standing not far from the path. I kneeled down so I was well hidden, but I made sure I could see the blonde who was still staring ahead of her.
'Fuck, she can barely see.' I thought to myself. And right then, a figure doomed up out of the darkness. It appeared to be in its human form, whatever it was.
"Show yourself!" Taylor shouted at the figure. "Now!"
"As you wish." A voice yet unknown to me said. The shadow grew bigger and bigger as it neared Taylor. I stood up a bit more, ready to attack whatever it was that was threating to hurt her.
Taylor growled loudly but stayed her human self while she stared at the figure with angry eyes. "Scared, Swiftie?" The voice said playfully. I heard it was a female voice now.
I couldn't take the suspense anymore and got my phone out of my pocket. My hands were trembling and shaking but I was able to turn the flashlight function on before stepping next to Taylor and shining the bright light at the creature.
Taylor tried pushing me away to the side, but it was too late already and I was standing in front of her. The creature stumbled backwards slightly, closed her eyes and hissed loudly.
"Turn it off you bloody idiot!" It said with a thick British accent. Taylor pushed my hand down then, so that the light was shining at the ground and not at the person in front of us.
"Your own fault Cara, you shouldn't scare us like that then." Taylor said amusedly, smiling towards the figure that was now rubbing her eyes with her hands.
"God dammit, I thought you knew that it was me. You always do." The girl replied. "Now please turn the damn light off will you?" Her eyes were staring at me, but her's were not shining, like ours.
I turned the light off and put the phone back in my pocket. For a little while I couldn't see anything then, because of the sudden darkness.
"You're the half wolf huh?" The girl asked, stepping closer towards me.
"How do you-"
"Cara, what the hell are you doing here?" Taylor asked, interrupting me.
"Where's the warm welcome?" The girl smiled, looking at Taylor now.
"Sorry." Taylor smiled, stepping towards the shorter girl and giving her a tight hug. The girl then let go of Taylor and stepped towards me. "Cara is the name." She said. "And you must be Karlie."
She shook hands with me and smiled widely. "Yeah, and how-" I started, but Taylor interrupted me again.
"Karlie, this is Cara. She is one of my oldest, best friends." Taylor stepped closer to me and smiled at me. "She's a vampire."
Oh my god..
"Yeah, thats why I didn't really like that light thing you see." Cara giggled.
"Oh, sorry bout that then." I said, slightly backing away from the vampire girl. "So uhmm.. how did you know my name and all that?"
"Girl, everyone knows." Cara laughed. Taylor shot me a look with her blue eyes as if too say 'don't be scared'. It didn't really work though since well.. since this girl was a fucking vampire. You know, those sharp teethed, blood sucking creatures. I was terrified.
"Oh." I said, grabbing Taylor's hand and squeezing it hard.
"Now Taylor, why didn't you recognize me?" Cara asked, lightly leaning on one leg and staring at the tall blonde.
"Long story.." Taylor signed. "But I'm like, half blind."
"Oh, so thats how you ended up here." Cara said, smiling at both of us.
"Here? Where is here? Isn't this the path to your father's cave Taylor?" I asked, slightly panicking.
"Yeah.. well.. uhmm thats what I thought.." Taylor mumbled. Cara let out a loud laugh then.
"Do you guys even know what time it is?" She giggled.
Taylor shrugged her shoulders. "Its like almost 1am." Cara said. "Come on, lets go to my den. You guys look like you need some rest."
"Hey!" Taylor said, a smile on her face however. "Rude."
The vampire girl laughed and started walking ahead of us. We followed her deeper into the woods in the cold, dark night.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"So how come you're blind TayTay?" Cara asked, getting up from her seat. We were sitting at a table in her den. Cara was now making her way over to the fireplace to light the thing up. Soon the fire started burning and a wave of warmth covered us. I sighed contently at the feeling, I had been cold since the second we left the car earlier.
"Not blind anymore." Taylor said. "Just blurry sight now."
"How that?" Cara asked, sitting down with us again at the wooden table. She had gotten two beers out of the fridge and was drinking a red substance from a strange looking bottle herself. I didn't have to guess what it was when I saw it. Blood.
"Well, I got bitten and scratched by a werewolf." Taylor said, taking a sip of her beer.
"Toni?" Cara asked, smiling widely at Taylor. Taylor just nodded and smiled back at her.
"God, that girl sure is trouble." Cara smiled.
"Cara, stop. We don't wanna hear your dirty stories." Taylor laughed. I giggled with her and took a sip of my beer. Cara started laughing too and then turned serious again.
"Seriously though Taylor. Everyone is looking for you guys, why are you here?" Cara said, taking a sip of her own drink and wiping the remains of it of her lips when she put the bottle down again.
"My father, he took Sel." Taylor said, looking down at her own beer bottle. "Were here to safe her and to take my father's power away."
"He took Selena? Out of all wolfs?" Cara said, angrily slamming her fist onto the table. "She is the nicest and kindest wolf I know."
"I know Cara, thats why were here. She has to be freed." Taylor said, looking at Cara seriously.
"I wanna help." Cara said, taking a big sip. "I wanna help you guys. Please let me come with you?"
"Cara.." Taylor sighed. "Remember how that ended last time?"
Cara hissed angrily. It scared me and I quickly grabbed Taylor's hand underneath the table.
"Your father sensed that I was there and we all got captured yeah. I remember." Cara said.
Taylor squeezed my hand softly and we both took a sip of our beer. "Vampires just happen to have a very strong scent. Sorry Car."
"Let me at least join until the valley?" Cara asked, pouting at Taylor. "Come on, you cant see and she doesn't know the way. I can lead you guys until there at least?"
Taylor let out a deep breath and looked at me. "Would you be okay with that?"
'Oh god, as long as she doesn't bite me..' I thought to myself.
"No Karls, she wont bite you." Taylor smiled at me. "I promise."
I nodded then. Totally blushing by the fact that Taylor could hear that I just thought that.
"Wait.." Cara said suddenly. "So you can read her mind, just like Di-"
"Yes.." Taylor said, squeezing my hand now. "I told her today."
"How did you react, kid?" Cara asked then, her attention on me this time.
"Kid?" I said, slightly offended.
Who does she think she is? How old is she?
"154." Taylor said randomly.
"Huh, what?" I asked, confused about that random number.
"She's 154." Taylor said, smiling at me.
"What the hell do you mean?" I asked, annoyed now.
"Born in 1868, kiddo." The vampire girl said, a grin on her face.
"No way?" I said, my eyebrows raised in surprise. "Wow."
Taylor and Cara both started laughing at my surprised face and I started blushing, of course.
"Guess she didn't respond that well to the mind reading thing huh? Spicy thing this one."
Taylor started blushing this time and nodded.
"Its okay now though." I said, smiling at them both. "Im just trying to get used to it still."
"Understandable." Cara nodded. We all talked for a little while longer, finished our drinks and headed to bed after. "You guys can sleep in tomorrow morning, I'm going to hunt though."
"Oh hell no, I haven't had a proper hunt in days, I'm joining." Taylor said, smiling widely at the vampire.
"Cara?" I asked.
"What is it?" She asked, looking at me. "You're not hunting for like.. humans, are you?"
Taylor and Cara both started laughing loudly. "No babe, thats so 1900." Cara said, smacking my arm playfully. I smiled and blushed at her before she headed into her own 'sleeping' area. Taylor led me into another room where a big king sized bed was placed in the middle of the room.
"This is her own bedroom." Taylor said. "But as you might know, vampires don't sleep that much at night." I smiled and nodded at her. "So whenever I stay here, Cara stays in the 'game room'.
"Okay wow." I said, smiling at the blonde. "What the hell is the 'game room'"'
Taylor started laughing then. "Oh my god, you and your dirty mind. Its a room full of like playstation's, computers, tv's, etcetera."
"Ohh.." I said. "Got it."
Taylor smiled at me and then walked into the bathroom attached to the bedroom.
What the hell will I sleep in? I don't have any clothes for sleeping with me..
"There are pajama shorts and shirts in the drawer underneath the tv!" Taylor shouted from out of the bathroom.
"Oh.. thanks." I said, smiling at myself. I got some grey shorts and a white shirt out of the drawer and changed into them.
"What are you doing in the bathroom!?" I shouted at the blond girl.
"Im gonna take a shower." She replied.
"Taylor.." I sighed. "Its almost 3am!"
"So?" She said, opening the door and showing only her face. "Just give me like five minutes."
I plopped down on the bed. "Fineeee.." I sighed dramatically. I closed my eyes for a few minutes then until Taylor walked out of the bathroom.
"Finally, that was so much longer than five-"
She was only wearing a towel around her body and was smiling widely at me when she noticed I stopped talking because of her. Her long, wet, curly, blonde hair was hanging beside her face and a few drips of water were making its way down her body.
Her long tanned legs made their way over to the pajama drawer. She smiled at me while ever so slowly walking acros the room.
"You're such a tease." I said, smiling at her. She smiled back at me. This was the first time I saw Taylor without any makeup on her face. And she looked beautiful. She had these cute freckles covering her cheeks and nose that I had'nt seen yet. Her blue eyes looked even lighter because of the darker color her hair now had, caused by the water.
"Ive been told." She said, grabbing some shorts and a shirt out of the drawer.
"Ha, by who?" I asked, cocking an eyebrow at her.
She giggled. "Uhmm.. Pff, people, wolfs, whatever." We both laughed while she made her way back into the bathroom to change.
"Come on slow turtle, I wanna sleep!" I shouted at her, grinning at the closed door.
"I am not.." She said while slowly opening the door. "A turtle!" She jumped out of the bathroom and onto the bed making me let out a shriek in surprise.
She started tickling my sides and I couldn't stop laughing. She laid down on top of me so that I couldn't get away from her tickling hands and I started tickling too.
"Whoever is the first to wilden looses!" She shouted while smiling widely at me.
I felt my limbs were starting to hurt already. "Thats not fair!" I shouted. "You've been used to that way longer than me!"
She just laughed and kept on tickling me. I did the same however and saw that her eyes were slowly turning darker in the process. My own eyes started burning and so I knew I was close to wildening myself.
"Shit!" I heard her growl loudly and before I knew it, we were both shifting into our wolf forms. I closed my eyes and felt my hands and feet turn into furry paws with sharp nails, hoping that I wouldnt hurt her. We both growled loudly one more time before I opened my eyes again and looked into those light blue ones I knew all too well.
"Well that worked didn't it.." I laughed.
"Yeah, who won now?" Taylor asked me, laughing herself.
"Wait do you understand what Im saying?" I asked in surprise. "And I can understand what you're saying."
I heard Taylor giggle. "Yeah of course dummy, were both wolfs now." She said, rubbing her white, furry cheek against mine.
"Oh. Cool." I answered. She was still laying on top of me but now in her beautiful wolf form. Her fur white, her eyes bright blue and her teeth looking awfully sharp.
"Can we sleep?" She asked, seemingly tired.
"Yes please?" I said, pushing her off of me slightly so that I could lay down comfortably. "Wait, shouldn't we shift back first?" I asked.
"Mehh, lets just stay like this for now. Were going on a hunt tomorrow morning anyway." She replied, getting comfortable herself too.
"Who says I'm joining for that hunt?" I said, laying down with my head on the pillow and the rest of my furry body curled up in a ball.
"I do." Taylor said, laying her head down next to mine, leaning on my tail so that we are closer together. "You're pretty." She says, looking into my green eyes.
"So are you." I said, rubbing against her cheek with mine again. She growled softly and laid down in a small ball too.
"Good night Karlie." She said softly, closing her eyes.
"Good night Taylor."
I love you.
She opened her eyes again then. "I love you too."
Oh..
She giggled and closed her eyes again. I looked at her for a while then, admiring her beauty. And I don't know if wolfs can smile, but in that moment we sure did.
