When I woke up the next day, the sun was shining through the curtains and lit up the room. I turned around and saw that the blonde was still fast asleep. She was breathing in a soft and steady pace and her chest was rising and falling in that rhythm. It was relaxing to watch her and so nice to wake up next to her. It had never happened before.
Shes beautiful..
"Are you awake?" She asked then suddenly.
"Yes." I replied. "I didn't know you were."
"Im too scared to open my eyes." She replied weakly. I took her hand in mine and gave it a little squeeze. "Im here." I whispered. "You can do it."
She furrowed her eyebrows for a second but then opened her blue eyes. They were still not shining, and still had this strange grey layer over them so I guessed she still didn't see much.
"And?" I asked curiously, hoping for the best.
"Nothing.." She sighed.
I let out a deep sigh.
"Yeah.. Its creeping me out."
"Im sure it will be fine again in like a few days."
"I miss your face. I don't even remember seeing your face last night." She said, turning over to me now, her face cringing in pain as she moved.
"Im just glad that were both together here, safe." I said. "How is the pain?"
"Horrible." She replied, her voice low.
"Can I take a look?"
She nodded, lifted the blankets off her and then lifted her shirt up a bit so that I could see her side. I took the bandages off carefully and looked at the wound. It still looked a bit red around the edges, but definitely better than last night.
"How does it look?" She asked, uncertainty in her voice.
"Way better than last night. Selena is a super nurse!" I replied excitedly. She smiled and I put the bandages back on the wound. I then took a look at the smaller wound on her arm and saw that this one looked quite good too.
"Told you, everything will be fine."
"Except for the fact that I'm blind.." She replied drily.
"Lets just give that some time?" I said, smiling at the blonde, who was facing me now, on her side.
"Yeah.." She said, closing her eyes again. "Whats the plan?"
"Which plan?"
"Well you know. The plan. A plan. Something to make sure that you and I wont get killed." She replied.
"Oh." I mumbled. "I don't know."
"Lets just start the day with breakfast then?" She smiled, taking my hand and squeezing it softly. I loved it when my hand was in hers. It felt so warm and nice. We got out of bed slowly. I took a shower, got dressed and so did she. I had to help her with picking her clothes, but she did the rest herself and insisted that I would leave the bathroom. I had smacked her ass playfully then, and had left her alone.
"Selena! Are you still sleeping girl!? Its past 11pm!" I shouted through the hallway as I was fully dressed now and ready for the day. I was wearing a yellowish flannel with some black high waisted jeans.
"Hello sleepyhead." I said as I walked into Selena's bedroom. I scanned the room but she wasn't there. The bed was still messy, like she just stepped out of it and went somewhere. 'Maybe she is already downstairs then..' I thought to myself as I walked out of her room and down the stairs. But she wasn't there either. Now I started to creep out a little as I walked back upstairs again, to Taylor who was still in the bathroom.
"Tay, Selena isn't here."
She swung the door open. "What do you mean shes not here?"
"Shes not here in the house. I don't know where she is." I replied, some stress in my voice. Taylor passed me quickly, but bumped her foot against the bed and almost fell down. I caught her quickly though and guided her through the hallway and down the stairs.
"Selena?!" She shouted through the house. But no answer was heard.
"Fuck." She mumbled then, looking around her with wide eyes, but not seeing anything.
"Oh my god. Theres a note on the kitchen table." I said as I walked over to the kitchen.
'Dear Taylor,
You should've listened to me the first time. Now your friend will pay the price. Meet me before its too late.
Sincerly, your father.'
I read the note out loud and Taylor let out a loud gasp. "They were here." She breathed.
"Who? Your dad?" I asked, not knowing what was happening.
"The grey's. My father is one of the grey's." She said quickly.
"Your.. what?!" I said a bit too loud. She looked hurt.
"Im sorry. I couldn't tell you. I.. shouldn't have told you. You're in even bigger danger now." She said, smacking her forehead and then shrieking in pain once again.
"Your dad is one of the grey's?" I asked, my eyebrows raised in disbelieve.
"Karlie, Ill explain it later okay? We need to get there and safe Selena." She said, already making her way out of the kitchen but bumping into everything on her way.
"Where is it?" I asked, taking her hand and leading her to the living room.
"Somewhere in the woods in Den valley." She answered, feeling around for her coat.
"Den valley? Thats like a seven hour drive!" I exclaimed, getting our coats and helping her to put it on.
"I know. But we have to safe Sel. We have to go there okay?" She replied sternly.
"Taylor." I said, taking her hands. "What if its a trap? I mean, I don't know your father very well but he doesn't seem like such a nice man and also, he is one of the grey's. Which means he is probably trying to kill us."
"We cant just abandon Selena. She is my best friend." She said, her eyes wide open and watering now.
"I know. But.. we should make up a plan. I mean, you're still blind you know."
"Karlie, theres is no plan. Were going to safe Selena from the grey's and thats that." She said, wiggling her hands out of mine and feeling around to get out of the house.
"Okay.." I said, taking her hand however and leading her out of the house. As much as I liked Selena, I didnt think this was a good idea.
And yet again. What did I get myself into?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Where are we driving?" Taylor asked after we sat in the car for about one and a half hours.
"Close to Wadeson."
"Shall we get some fresh clothes and food at your apartment then?" She asked then, looking over at me with those greyish eyes.
"Yeah sure. Are you okay?" I asked her, putting my hand on her leg. She almost jumped out of her chair. "Hey, relax." I giggled.
"S.. sorry." she mumbled, a small smile on her face. "Its just that I cant see you.. Its.. Its weird."
"Yeah, I get that." I said, my eyes on the road again. "Well lets freshen up at my place and then drive further."
We soon reached my apartment, which is in Wadeson, and got out of the car. I walked over to the passenger side of the car and helped the blonde out of the vehicle. She squeezed my hand then suddenly, when we reached my front door, and stopped walking.
"Something's wrong." She mumbled. "Karlie, something is wrong." She tugged at my arm and started walking backwards.
"Tay, relax. Its okay." I said calmly, looking through the windows off my house in the meantime and seeing nothing special. "There is no one here. Its okay." I said. She squeezed my arm and hugged me from the side.
"Its scary that Im blind." She said softly then.
"I know babe." Hugging her.
Oh god. I said babe. I fucking said babe. Great Karlie.
I felt her body becoming stiff. "Babe?" She mumbled. I didn't have to look at her to know that she was smiling. And there we stood, hugging in my front yard, as if it was the most normal situation ever.
"Shall we go inside?" I asked after a while.
"I don't know Karlie.." She said, her face worried.
"Come on, we can do it together." I said, taking her hand in mine and leading the way. I got my keys out of my pocket and opened the front door. We stepped into the tiny hallway and walked further into the living room. It looked exactly like it would always look, and yet something was feeling wrong.
"See.." I said, ignoring the weird feeling. "Nothing going on."
"Karlie, I cant see anything." She said, holding onto my arm for dear life.
"Sorry." I mumbled, walking into the kitchen with her. "Okay you sit here, I'm gonna get us some fresh clothes and then ill come back here yeah?"
"Karlie.." She breathed.
"Ill be right back. Really. I promise." I said calmly. I kissed the top of her hand and she growled softly in reply. It was a sweet growl, not an angry one.
I ran up the stairs and into my bedroom. I got a big bag from underneath my bed and stuffed it full with shirts, sweaters, jeans, underwear and even things as beanies, scarfs and gloves. Just to be sure, I mean you never know. When my closet was practically empty, I picked up the bag and headed towards the bathroom. Here I grabbed two new toothbrushes, a hairbrush, and a roll of toilet paper. I felt like Taylor and I were going on some kinda fun road trip. I feared this trip wouldn't be so much fun though.
I was making my way downstairs again, when I heard a loud bang coming from the kitchen.
"TAYLOR?!" I shouted, my mind and body already in panic mode. I dropped the heavy bag on the floor and ran towards the kitchen.
I heard a muffled groan and walked into the kitchen to see Taylor was laying on the ground. The chair she just sat on, was laying beside her.
"What happened? Are you okay?" I asked, kneeling down next to her.
"Im fine." She mumbled, sitting up a bit now and rubbing her head with her hand. "I wanted to help you by getting some food for on our way and I smelled it was in the cabinet above the fridge. But.. I slipped off the chair when I stood on it and.. well I fell. As you can see."
I couldn't help but giggle.
"Hey, don't laugh." She said, a smile on her face however. "Help me up?"
"Whats the magic word?"
"Karlie, come on."
I stayed quiet.
"Pleeeaseeee?" She said then, looking in my direction with a pout on her face.
I grabbed both of her hands and helped her up. I then got the chair from the ground and let her sit on it again. "Are your wounds okay?" I asked.
She nodded and rubbed her head once more. "Let me get some ice for you." I said, opening the freezer and getting a bag of ice out. "There you go." I said, handing it over to her.
"Thanks." She mumbled and again I couldn't help but giggle at the sight of the clumsy wolf girl sitting there with a bag of ice on her head.
"What?" She asked, smiling in my direction.
"Its just that.. like you're this tough wolf chick one second, and the next you're a.. a clumsy bunny."
"You did not just call me a bunny?" She giggled.
"What? Is that like a huge insult for a wolf? Since you probably eat them normally." I asked, smiling at her.
"Nah.." She answered. "It just sounds funny." The smile on her face was this big, happy one and it made my belly do flip flops in my body. I smiled too.
"Well then bunny, let me get some food for you." I said, reaching for some cookies in the cabinet Taylor meant to reach a bit ago. "Want some cookies?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" She replied excitedly, reaching her hands forward to get the package. She took a bite then and mumbled. "Hmm, mine are better."
"What did you say?" I asked, searching for some water in the fridge in the meantime.
"I said, mine are better." She repeated.
"You bake cookies?" I asked in disbelieve. I had never heard of a werewolf baking nor even eating cookies before.
"Yeah, I love that so much." She said, that big, pretty smile in her face again. "Please tell me you didn't bake these yourself?" She pointed at the cookie in her hand.
"No.." I replied. "Mine are better than those, I promise you that." I got some apples off the kitchen table and stuffed them into the bag full of clothes, together with a big bottle of water, the remains of the cookies and some candy. Its all I had laying around in the kitchen.
"Well, lets do a baking competition once then?" Taylor asked, a smile on her face and her eyes shining a little bit when she looks in my direction.
"Im in!" I said. "Im going to win big time though."
"You wo- OH MY GOD KARLIE. I CAN SEE YOU.. well kinda." She dropped the bag of ice and got up from the chair to reached for my face with her hands.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" I asked quickly, holding up four fingers.
"Ehmm five? Or no.. three? Or four? I.. I don't know.. Its so blurry.. I can only see like your shadow in the light surrounding." She explained, touching my face now and stroking my cheeks.
"Well thats better than nothing already!" I exclaimed excitedly. She smiled widely and so did I. I looked into her blue eyes. The grey layer had started to fade away slowly and the blue became more visible again. She was still stroking my cheeks in the meantime and let out a soft growling sound.
"What.. what are you doing with your hands?" I stuttered, enjoying the touch of her warm hands.
"Can I kiss you?" She asked. The question caught me off guard and I started shaking a bit as my heart was now pounding in my chest.
"Y.. yes.." I mumbled. She smiled and then leaned closer to me, capturing my lips with hers. I moved my hands to the back of her neck and pulled her a closer. Her hands were still on my cheeks and she was tracing patterns with her thumbs. She then moved her tongue over my lips and I opened them slightly to let her in.
Then suddenly, I heard the sound of someone clapping. "Well well well.." The person said.
Taylor moved in front of me, shielding me from the person. "Adam.." She hissed. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh sweet Taylor, you know what I'm doing here, don't ya?" He said, his deep voice vibrating through the house. I know Taylor couldn't see him, but she looked in his direction anyway.
"Get out." Taylor said calmly. "And leave us alone."
"You know dear Taylor.." Adam said, slowly stepping closer towards us. He was wearing all black and lifted his hood off his head now. "I cant do that." He put a finger underneath Taylor's chin and lifted her head up a bit. Taylor growled softly, in an angry way this time. And I have to say, it was pretty intimidating.
"Your father sent me." The guy said, roughly moving his hand suddenly and scratching Taylor's cheek with his sharp nails.
"Well you can tell my father, that he can fuck off." Taylor growled, reaching for her cheek and wiping the blood away with the sleeve of her black sweater.
Adam let out a dark laugh. "What happened to your eyes? Little Taytay?" He asked then.
"None of your business." The blonde hissed, looking down to the ground, probably not wanting him to find out that she is practically blind. I pressed myself against the kitchen counter, frozen in fear.
"Makes you an easy target." Adam smiled. Taylor looked up at him again, assumably waiting for him to attack her at this point. "Dont worry.." The guy said then. "Ill let your father handle you. I want her." He pointed at me.
I felt like my heart had just stopped working and let out a loud breath.
"You wont hurt her." Taylor said, her voice strong.
"Taytay, you know that grey's don't match with filthy human borns." He said, looking at me in disgust.
"Im not a grey!" She shouted loudly then, stepping closer to Adam, who stepped to the side a bit.
"Ha! You are, and you know what?" Adam laughed, seeming to be amused by the situation. "She might be your true match, but your father promised me Ill be one of the grey's too, if I can be your match."
"Good try Adam. Wont work though."
"It almost worked last time when I killed that other cute human born match of yours, so why not now? This time it will work." He said, an evil grin on his face.
Taylor jumped forward then, letting out a loud growl and scratching the guy in his face harshly. He groaned, stepped backwards and reached for his bleeding face.
"SHUT UP!" She growled, grabbing his throat tightly. I watched the whole thing with my hands tightly holding the kitchen counter so I wouldn't fall over because of my shaking legs.
Adam started laughing evilly then. "What was her name? Dianna I think. I have to admit, she was kinda cute. Were you.. uhmm whats that word that humans use? Oh yeah.. In love with her?"
Taylor's breathing started to become heavier and her body started shaking while she was still holding the guy's throat tightly.
"I said, shut up." She hissed, scratching him again, his arm this time. He groaned again and I was in awe of Taylor's strength. Adam might be taller and bigger than her, but she was definitely stronger than he was.
"Is that all you have?" The guy laughed. He was obviously in pain though, as the deep cuts were bleeding a lot, leaving red stains everywhere.
"Leave. Us. Alone." She hissed, lifting her leg up and kicking him in his crotch harshly. He groaned again and fell to the ground. Taylor walked back, facing me instead of him. But he got up from the ground faster than expected and grabbed her neck from behind.
"Listen sweetie.." He said, choking her with one arm. "Im not going to kill you, cause I need you. But you cant stop me from killing her." He looked at me again. "I want to become a grey and for that to be possible.. She needs to die." Taylor tried to scratch him again but was struggling to get air and so she kept still. He roughly pushed her onto the ground and walked over to me.
"Hey darlin." He said, a smirk on his face. "Any last words?" He grabbed my arm roughly and my neck with his other hand. I froze completely in fear, not able to do anything. I closed my eyes, accepting my death.
I heard a loud growl then and saw a white flash. I thought this was it, this was the end. I felt his grip loosen though and fell onto the floor together with him.
I felt something biting my leg, and I was dragged outside the house.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Karlie? Karls please wake up?" I heard her angelic voice ask. I opened my eyes and saw those blue/grey eyes staring in my direction in fear.
"Karlie, you need to drive. Fast." She said as soon as she realized I was awake. We were sitting in the car, me in the drivers seat and she was in her human form. I felt a sharp pain going through my body when I moved my legs. I looked down and saw that my right leg was bleeding, but stepped on the gas paddle with my other foot nevertheless.
"Sorry, I had no other way of getting you out of there. I had to drag you with my teeth." She said, reaching for the bag I packed, which was somehow standing in the back of the car. "Here, put this around it." She said, handing me a white scarf. I did as I was told and kept driving in the meantime.
We sat in silence then. An uncomfortable silence.
"I.. I think I have some things to explain.." She mumbled after a while. We were driving on the highway now and the sound of the rain falling on the windows an the roof, filled the car.
"I.. uhmm.. yeah.." I mumbled, not necessarily angry at her, but just done with all her secrets.
"My dad is the pack leader of the grey's." She said, her voice soft and uncertain. "My mom died a few years ago, she was one of the whites."
"Oh.. Im sorry.." I mumbled awkwardly.
"I always wanted to be one of the whites, but since my mom's death, I am officially a grey." I knew shes looking in my direction but keep my eyes on the road, wanting her to continue talking.
"My dad is against human borns and wants only pure bloods in his pack and in the wolf community." She continued. I could hear she is at the verge of crying and so I took her hand in mine while my other hand was on the steering wheel.
"He wants me to be a match with Adam." She breathed. "And for that to be possible, my true match has to die." I squeezed her hand softly and brought it to my lips then, kissing it.
"Thank you for explaining that." I said softly. "I know thats probably hard for you." I could see her nod her head in the corner of my eye. There is one other thing I want to know about and so I just decide to ask her;
"Who is Dianna?"
Her hand turned into a fist then, in my hand. "I.. I.." She mumbled.
"She.. I.. she.. she died.." She stuttered. "Adam killed her."
"Who was she?" I asked calmly, trying to relax her a bit.
It stays quiet in the car for a while again before she speaks up.
"Dianna was my true match. We met four years ago." Her voice is quivering while she speaks and I see that a tear makes its way down her cheek. "We met at a christmas market, close to Wadeson actually, and I bit her one day. She asked me to do it, so that we could live together as wolfs. But.. but of course my dad found out that she was a human born.. and then.. then.. she got killed.." Her voice cracked and her eyes were streaming like waterfalls. "I loved her Karlie. I loved her so much."
"Oh baby.." I said, letting her lay on my shoulder as I kept on driving. "I am so sorry.."
She laid on my shoulder for a while, shaking and sniffing every now and then. "I.. I didnt know you could have more matches actually. I thought only one." I said, interrupting the silence after a couple of minutes.
"When your true match.. dies.." She struggles to say. "A new one appears."
"Oh.." I said, not knowing what to say really.
"Im glad I have you Karlie. I am." She said then, looking in my direction when lifting her head off my shoulder.
"Im glad to have you too." I say, smiling back at her, even though she can barely see me.
"So what would've happened if he would've killed me?" I asked then.
"He wouldve bitten me and be my match."
"But why? I don't understand that part."
"If a werewolf bites another wolf's neck while both in their human form, they become automatic matches. That means he would become a grey then, because the grey's are the wealthiest pack of all. They have the most power."
"Oh okay. Got it. Thats sick though." I said, still not really into the wolf stuff.
"I know. The whole werewolf thing is kinda sick." She answered, a small smile on her face.
"Kinda." I answered, smiling back at her. "Are you okay? How are your wounds?"
"They're okay I think. My vision is still really bad though."
"Im sure it will be better later yeah?"
"Yeah." She smiled faintly.
"Whats the plan?" I asked then, looking at the pretty blonde next to me.
"There is no plan." She answered. "We go into the forrest, find my dad's cave and safe Selena."
"He lives in a cave?" I ask. "Thats so old school"
Taylor laughed loudly then, making me smile. "You're funny." She said.
"So are you."
And so we drove further and further towards our destination, still unsure of what we would find.
