I shoved him off me. "Your boys? I thought I was supposed to be their make-believe 'mother'!" I shouted.

Pan glared at me before pushing me back on to the tree. He placed his hands on either side of me, effectively caging me in. "They will never be your boys." he seethed, a mere inch or so from my face. "And you will never be their mother if you don't learn your place."

I scoffed. "Me? Learn my place? You need to learn your place and give me my little sister back!" I pulled in a deep breath and tried to calm my burning rage.

He stared into my eyes, his azure gaze burning two holes into my own chocolate-colored ones. We stood that way for a while, seemingly in a spell-bounding trance. Pan was the first to break away as he stepped back and released me from the tree.

"You will get your sister back after you properly meet my boys." He said as he grabbed my hand. He pulled me away from the trunk and down the set of crude stairs he had just so roughly dragged me up not so long ago. All of the anger seemed to have magically drained from him.

Pan lead me back into the room where the Lost Boys were milling about, doing whatever little boys trapped on islands do.

He once again called them back into the military-style line. "Okay," he began, "We are going to try this again, and this time, Wendy will be on her best behavior. Isn't that right, Wendy?" I nodded quickly. I didn't want to ignite that rage within him once again. "You may begin where you left off." He finished.

The second boy, Ed, stepped forward once more. He had dirt caked in his already filthy brown hair and his upper lip was busted and bleeding a small trickle of red. It was all curtsey of me. "The name's Ed, and I'm eleven. And Peter, her name's not Wendy. She said it's Gwen."I winced. That boy just had to go and open his big mouth! I would have gladly gave him a black eye to go with that busted lip.

Pan looked him up and down as if assessing his worth before he turned to me. "Is what he is saying true, Wendy?"

I grimaced at the use of the name. I swallowed a lump that was forming in my throat before I gathered the courage to answer, "Yes. My name is Gwen and I will not be called something else, expectionally Wendy." I wanted my voice to come out strong and firm, but instead, it sounded weak and helpless. Pathetic.

Pan nodded before he motioned for the next boy in line to step up.

I was bewildered. Why did he back down so easily? He had already argued with me about everything else, so why this time? Why this matter?

The next boy had coal black hair that fell past his ears and tangled in front of his cobalt eyes. He was only slightly shorter than Ed and seemed like he would grow taller than Pan if he was allowed such a right. The boy next to him looked almost exactly like him. They must have been twins!

"I'm Gar and this is my twin, Con." He said as he gestured to the similar-looking boy next to him. "We're both ten!" He proclaimed loudly and proudly. His twin nodded eagerly along with his words.

I glanced at Pan before I decided to answer. "It's really a pleasure to meet you, Gar and Con, but how will I ever hope to tell you both apart?"

Both of the boys laughed. "Well, Con has mix matched eyes, and I'm taller than him!" Gar proclaimed. Con made a strange face. "I do not! And you're only taller because you're older than me!" He shot back at his counter part.

A small smile flickered onto my lips. They were so cute! I also realized that Gar was right about Con's eyes. His right eye was the same midnight blue as his twin's, but his left was a bright vibrant green.

They both saluted me in unison before they stepped back into line so that the next child could have a go.

This child was considerably shorter than the twins who both were almost a whole head taller than him. His hazel eyes shifted from me, to Pan, and then to the head of the line. He pushed his shaggy, golden bangs out of his view. He then shuffled his feet before he cleared his throat. He was acting like a nervous child who had stolen a piece of candy without his parents' permission.

"Fin. My name's Fin." He paused to glance at the front of the line. He cleared his throat, again, before he continued. "I'm eight, and I'm-" Fin cut off abruptly with a startled look. He swiftly stepped back into line and waited for the child next to him to take his turn.

The next boy had midnight hair that was only a few shades darker than his rich skin tone. His hair, like the rest of the boys was long and shaggy, and very much resembled a forest hermit's. He was constantly brushing it out of his light mocha eyes to peer up at me. His constant brushing insisted that he was not quite adapted to its shaggy length.

"I'm Zac!" The young boy shouted. "And I'm soon to be six!" Zac glanced at Pan, unsure of how his next question would be received. "We can party on my birthday, right Peter?"

Pan glanced at me. It was if he was always gauging my reactions. When he turned his attention back to Zac. he nodded his approval.

Zac joined the line again and signaled it was the last and smallest boy's turn.
The youngest had clear gray eyes that shown out from his small freckled face. His curling red hair could have been considered strawberry blonde next to Pan's fiery mop of hair.

The boy looked at me before the ground beneath his feet stole his attention.

Pan released at small noise of annoyance. "You're a Lost Boy and Lost Boys are brave! Quit acting like a baby and have courage." He paused as he waited for the child to react. The boy didn't. Another frustrated breath left Pan. "Well, get on with it then!"

The boy jumped and raised his head to look at me. His lower lip quivered and tears shown in his eyes, making them resemble twin storm clouds. The poor child was scared beyond belief.

I walked over and knelt down in front of him. "What's your name, sweetheart?" A tear slide down his cheek while he shook his head. "Oh, come now. It's alright." I soothed as I wiped the tears from his pale face.

"Josh." He whispered ever so softly that I had to strain my ears to hear him.

A warm smile spread across my face. "Thank you, Josh. Now, how old are you?" He held up five stubby fingers. "You're five?" I cooed. Josh's head bobbed. "Well, you're practically a big boy!" He nodded again.

I patted his head before I rejoined Pan in front of the line of children I had to pretend to be the mother of.

Pan addressed the Lost Boys. "All it takes is faith, trust, and pixie dust." Pan intoned. The Lost Boys repeated the phrase, then they broke rank. The boys resumed what they had been doing before Pan and I interrupted them.

Pan turned to me with a mechious twinkle in his pale eyes. "I think it's time I keep my promise." He offered me his arm, a move completely unlike him. "Off to find Tinkerbell and the little girl."
