Nathan's POV -
I walked away from Tom's house, knowing that what happened last night between him and Rachel last night was completely wrong; they should never have even kissed.
So sleeping with each other was even more out of order; but he made Rachel happy and I wasn't going to step in the way of that. I mean, Tom wasn't exactly a bad guy, he just broke her heart and dealt with everything in the wrong way.
I didn't want that to happen to Rachel again.
She deserved better than that and he had no right to act that way towards her, especially when she did nothing wrong to deserve it.
"So, you knew about Rachel and Mr.Parker then?" Max asked suddenly as we approached Louise's house, he was going to meet her and then they were off somewhere for the rest of the day.
"Yes. I knew about them at the beginning of term." I shrugged.
"And you didn't report them?" Max replied with a tone of surprise.
"Rachel is one of my bestfriends and, unlike your girlfriend, I actually want her to be happy. It just so happens that it's Mr.Parker who makes her happy, are you really going to take that away from her?" I questioned, stopping him and looking him straight in the eyes, making sure he knew what he was going to if he decided to tell anyone the truth.
"I have to tell Mr.McGuiness and then, once I've done that, I'm going to have to go straight to Miss.Wood and tell her the truth. You know, he's going to go to prison for this?" Max replied smugly as he went to walk away from me. But, before he had the chance to go anywhere, I grabbed hold of his arm and pulled him back.
"If you tell anyone then I'll make sure you're made to look a liar. I'm not going to let you and that bitch of a girlfriend ruin Rachel's happiness, just because neither of you have got anything better to do." I snapped in response.
"Look, I'm the attractive new hot guy that is dating one of the hottest and most popular girls in school. You're the new, quiet, shy guy that hangs around with the used-to-be. Who do you think they're going to believe?" Max chuckled.
"Oh, they're not going to believe you. They're going to believe their eyes..." I stated before letting go of his arm and walking back off in the direction which we had previously come from. I was going back to Tom's and I needed to tell him that there was trouble coming his way in the shape of Louise and Max.
As long as they were happy with each other, they didn't care about anything or anyone else. They could make everyone else's life miserable when they were with each other because they felt like they were able to do that; and Louise claimed to be Rachel"s bestfriend.
She had a funny way of showing it right now. To me, she was just being a complete stuck-up bitch and she didn't deserve to have Rachel as a friend.
I wasn't going to let her get hurt by this. And, even though what happened was illegal, I wasn't going to let Tom get hurt either. It just wasn't fair.
Tom's POV -
I was awoken by the sound of someone hammering on my front door, I looked at the time to see that I hadn't even been asleep for another hour yet, and someone was already waking me up again.
I carefully removed myself from around Rachel's body and moved her arms from around me, trying not to wake her in the process. As I moved off the bed, she let out a slight sigh and there was still a smile on her lips as she rolled over and faced away from me.
I couldn't help but be happy when I saw that, knowing I was the person that made her feel that way again.
Knowing that, not only did I have the ability to break her heart and make her hate me more than anything, I also had the ability to make her smile and to remind her what it's like to be loved again.
I left her there and walked, well, it was more like stumbled if I'm being totally honest, down the stairs and wandered, or tripped as it mostly was, over to the front door and opened it; seeing a panicked and flustered Nathan stood there.
"What are you doing here Nathan?" I asked, both surprised and in anticipation of what he was going to say to me.
"Max...he's threatening to...to go to Mr.McGuiness and...and Miss.Wood..." he replied in between breaths, I'm guessing her must have either walked here at a pretty fast pace or, failing that, he probably ran here to tell me this as soon as he could do.
This was something pretty serious and it could me into some serious trouble; this could ruin everything that I'd worked so hard to build up.
I know this was the risk that I took when I made the decision to bring Rachel back here last night, but I didn't think it would be an issue this soon after something had happened between us.
"Right, get your breath back and then we'll talk to each other..." I replied, pointing him in the direction of the living room and gesturing for him to sit down on the sofa, following him into the room and taking the seat opposite him.
"Nathan? What are you doing here?" I looked over to the door to see Rachel stood there wearing one of my t-shirts and she seemed pretty confused as she sat down on my lap, resting her head on my shoulder.
"Max knows about me and you, he's threatening to tell McGuiness and Wood about us..." I muttered.
"How does he know about us? It only happened last night, no one should know. I can't lose you again!" Rachel replied with a panicked tone, her attention now turning to Nathan because he was the only one that knew what was going on between us. It was, after all, his plan that made this happen for us again.
"Don't worry babe, you're not going to lose me, I promise. We'll find a way out of this, you've got a plan, right?" I asked Nathan who appeared to be a lot calmer now than he was five minutes ago.
"Well, yeah, but I don't think either of you are going to like it..." Nathan stated.
"What's the plan then?" Rachel asked cautiously, not wanting to hear what his idea actually was, especially if it meant losing me again.
"If I continue 'dating' Rachel in and around school, and Tom continues 'dating' Miss.Lake in and around school, then no one is ever going to believe Max's story. Then you can spend all weekend together, never even leaving this place?" Nathan replied, making sure he quoted the word 'dating' both times that he said it.
Both mine and Rachel's faces dropped at the same time as soon as he had finished speaking. Sure, it was a brilliant idea and no one would even bother to question it because Nathan and Rachel were all over each other last night and I was all over Miss.Lake.
But I can't even bare the thought of Rachel and Nathan kissing each other and his hands wandering all over her body in front of people. Him always telling her that he loves her and then her replying at the same time, my heart breaking because I can't just tell people that it's Rachel I love and no one else.
"And you think that will work? No one will believe Max?" Rachel sighed, her grip now becoming tighter around my neck as she refused to let go, or even move away from me now.
"As long as we all act the same way we did last night, even Louise will think that her boyfriend is lying. And I'm sorry that it's turned out this way. I do want you to be happy, but this is the only way it can happen." Nathan said with a slight smile, trying to make the situation seem better than it actually was.
"I'm lucky to have you as a friend Nath. Thanks for this..." Rachel smiled, standing up and walking over to him, embracing him in a giant hug which he gratefully received without compliant; I guess, now, I finally understood why they had become friends with each other.
Nathan didn't judge her and tell her that she was making a mistake by giving me another chance, he tried helping her to win me back. He didn't go running to tell everyone about us, he tried helping her to make sure we stayed together because he wanted Rachel to be happy. And he didn't try to convince her to leave me, he just warned me what would happen if I messed her about again; which I wasn't going to do this time around.
He was an amazing friend to her and treated her better than Louise ever did.
That's why they became friends with each other.
"I just want you to be happy and, for some strange reason unknown to me, the idiot over there makes you happy. I'm not going to let some bitch and her boyfriend ruin that." Nathan laughed.
"She's not that much of a bitch really, not when you actually get to know here..." Rachel defended Louise, don't understand why she would even do that though.
"Rach, how can you even defend her like that? In the past couple of weeks, how many times has she actually been there for you?" I asked.
"Tom, she's my bestfriend and has always been there for me, I can't just let you all slate her like that. And, the only reason she hasn't been there is because she's been busy with Max. That's all..." Rachel sighed as she took a seat beside Nathan and looked straight at me, sadness washing over her eyes.
"I know that she's been there for you but, lately anyway, she hasn't been there when you've needed her and now, she's going to ruin your own happiness. Is she really a bestfriend?" Nathan asked, but Rachel just looked away from us both and didn't bother replying.
I could tell that she had some serious conflicting feelings. She knew that Nathan was right but she also didn't want to admit the truth, Louise had been there a lot for her before all this happened and she wasn't willing to throw that all away.
"Don't worry about it babe. If you trust her enough then we're not going to change that but, for now at least, it's going to be for the best if you pretend to date Nathan and I'll pretend to date Miss.Lake." I sighed.
"I know. I just don't think I can stand the thought of you being with someone else while you're with me." Rachel muttered.
"And you really think I want to see you with Nathan, especially after the way you were last night?" I protested, throwing my hands up in annoyance.
"Yet it was still you that I ended up in bed with you and not him. You're just going to have to trust me and know that it's only you I want, not anyone else. If I'm not with you, then it's not a life." Rachel smiled at me as she walked over to me and sat back down on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck at the same time as she wore a smile on her face when she looked at me.
There was such love and passion in her expression, there was no faking what she was feeling and there was no lying about the emotions she held within her when she was around me.
I was the only person that she wanted and she didn't want anyone else.
"I'm going to leave you two alone now. Rach, we still walking on Monday?" Nathan smiled at her.
"Yeah, half eight at my house?" she replied.
"Just like always. I'll see you then." Nathan said as he walked out of the room.
"Nathan?"
"Yes Tom?"
"Thank you for everything. I'm glad Rachel has a friend like you." I smiled at him and then he left the house, allowing me to spend the rest of the day with Rachel before I was losing her to Nathan, just to please the rest of the world and to save the pair of us.
"So, I guess this means you get your second chance then." Rachel muttered into my neck as I fell into the chair and pulled her closer to me.
"Yeah. I guess it does and I'm never letting you go again. I love you so much Rachel." I replied, placing a kiss on the top of her head.
"And I love you too." she smiled back at me.
Today was going to be good. I had to make sure of that one since the next time I got to see her wasn't going to be until next weekend.
I need to make today count, and that's what I'm going to do.
