Previously...

Xavier and I sat under a tree, watching the wind take the petals fly away.

I realized that I was having a good time. Then, I realized why Xavier had shown me the flowers.

"Thanks." I squeezed Xavier's hand.

And so it continues...

"You're welcome." Xavier had shown me the flowers to be unstressed.

"You should smile more often." I looked at him. "You look even prettier when you smile." He looked back at me. "Haley, you are beautiful." I felt myself blush. "Even when you blush."

Xavier let go of my hand. He put his hands on my waist and pulled me on his lap.

I moved my hands up his arms. Then looped my arms around his neck.

I looked into his eyes. They were amazing. They were my favorite color. They were the color of nature.

Xavier leaned in and I closed my eyes. He lips were on mine. His lips were soft. The kiss was slow and gentle.

A face appeared in my head.

It was the face of Brandon.

I pushed Xavier back braking the kiss. I looked away from Xavier. I felt Xavier's breathe on my cheek.

"I should go." I said. I got off of Xavier's lap, and went to the house. I grabbed my papers.

"Haley?" Xavier touched my shoulder. "Did I do something wrong?" I turned to him.

"You shouldn't have kissed me, and I shouldn't have kissed back." He looked hurt. "I'll finish the results at home." I looked away and headed for the door. I reached the door and was about the leave, but something made me look back. Xavier was still watching me. He was still full of hurt. What could I say? What could I do? I've already messed up. I opened the door and just left.

~~~~~~~~~~
I sat at my desk, finishing the results from the project. Every time I wrote a word down, I thought about Xavier. Every word I wrote down gave me a reminder of the kiss, and what I said. The reminders filled up my head. After a while, I called Vanessa. Of course, I had to use my house phone
"Hello?" Vanessa answered.
"Why is life so stressful?" I asked.
"It's just the way it is." I signed. "Haley, you want to chill with me?"
"Where?"
"Met me outside the café in ten." Vanessa hung up the phone.
Vanessa was outside the café waiting for me.
Wind blow through her blond curly hair, showing her earing. Her earrings were silver diamond studs.
"Haley!" Vanessa waved at me, and I waved back. We entered the café together and sat at a booth. The both was next to a wall that had a picture of how the café looked years ago. In the 90s' it was really different, it didn't even look like it was a café.
We picked our menus; there were so many options to choose from. There was coffee, cappuccinos, smoothies, lemonade, ice tea, and juice. To eat, there was cake, cookies, muffins, sandwiches, and salads.
A waiter came to take our order. He didn't asked us what we wanted through words. The why he asked us was by taking out she pen and notepad.
The waiter was around his twenties. I guess today's his first day since I haven't seen him here before.
"I'll have a cappuccino and a piece of chocolate cake." Said Vanessa. The waiter looked at me.
"I'll have a mango smoothie and a blueberry muffin." Then waiter wrote it down, and then left.
"So what's up?" Vanessa asked. "you don't usually call me telling me how terrible life is."
"I like this guy...but I messed up everything with him."
"Who is it?" Vanessa got excited." Is it Brandon?"
"No!" I looked around, my yell had attracted attention. I focused back on Vanessa. "It's not Brandon." I said back in my normal voice.
"Then who is it?"
"It's not important." I never liked a guy before, and I didn't want to admit that I did.
"Fine, what happened?" the waiter came back with our orders.
"He kissed me."
"You didn't mess up." Vanessa took a sip of her cappuccino.
"I kissed him back."
"You still didn't mess up."
"I broke the kiss, told him he shouldn't have kissed me and then left."
"You messed up." I took a bit of my muffin. "If you like the guy, why would you do that?" She continued drinking her cappuccino.
"Something flashed in my head, reminding me that I shouldn't be kissing him."
"A face flashed in your head, didn't it?" I nodded my head then drank my smoothie." It happens. It's usually because you like some else." It's not. It's because of my sister. She's already hurt. I can't make it worse then I already have. "Or it's because you have someone important in your life and you feel like you'll leave them behind, if you have someone else important to you."
"I guess." Vanessa was partly right. Being with Xavier would mean risking my sister. And my sister is the most important person to me.
"Haley, if this guy likes you, he won't give up and leave you alone." Vanessa cuts a piece from her slice of cake and ate it.
Vanessa and I stayed at the café for about two hours; we talked about our favorite music and books. Somehow our conversation lasted.
Vanessa was into hip-hop and liked historical fiction,
Her interest haven't changed.
I've known Vanessa since the fifth grade. In the sixth grade, we become best friends. Vanessa has always liked hip-hop and historical fiction. She started to like hip-hop when I introduce her to it, and she started liking historical fiction because of a book we had to read in reading class.
Vanessa went home and I went for a walk.
I went for a walk at the park. Brownish. Orange leaves started to fall on the ground. I heard the leaves crunch under my feet as I made my way through the park. I stopped in front of the rose bush.
Fall was coming and then winter. The roses won't be here anymore.
I stood under a tree and watched the rose bush for as long as I could.
I got home in time for dinner. It's been a while seen I've eaten with mom and dad. Usually when I came home, it's really late.
Dinner felt awkward with mom and dad. It also felt awkward because the seat in front of me was empty.
Heather's seat.
"I hear there's a new student is school." Dad said. Here we go.
"Yeah. There is." I responded.
"Male or female?"
"Male."
"Tell me about him. Is he shy or outgoing? Is he well behaved or not. Smart or a delinquent?" Dad always made sure I'm with the right people.
"He's shy, he's a good student, he's smart, and a really kind person.
"How smart?" Dad only lets people who are smart or kind to be my friends. Destiny has to put an act when dad's around.
"He made the list." Dad didn't reply to my answer. He just continued eating vegetables. He was thinking if I should hang out with Xavier or not. Dad doesn't usually let me hang out with guys, because not many get on the list.
Dad doesn't know about Brandon, at least not yet.
The thought of Brandon made me realize that I haven't seen him all day.
Where could he be?
He might have texted me, but I don't have my phone.
Why do I care? After what Brandon has done, why do I care?
Dad gave me the approval for me to hang out with Xavier, but after today, I doubt we'll hang out again.
Mom and dad left the kitchen, leaving me to clean up the table, and wash the dishes.
I woke up one hour earlier than yesterday. I took a shower right away. During my shower I listened to music and sang along.
----------------------------
It was two years ago, freshman year.
Destiny had convinced me to audition for choir. So now I was in the choir room with Ms. Parker, my music teacher.
"Ms. Parker?"
"Yes dear?"
"I would like to audition for choir." I said.
"Great! What song will you be singing?"
"Can I surprise you?"
"Of Course!" She moved to the other side of the room, leaving he front of the room for me
"Every day is so wonderful.
Then suddenly it's hard to breathe.
Now and then I get insecure
From all the pain, I'm so ashamed." I continued singing Beautiful by Christina Aguilera.
When I finished my audition, Ms. Parker was clapping. She brought me into choir and I got a solo
-----------------------
After my shower, I went down stairs and found out that both mom and dad were gone. I also didn't see the cops.
Have they given up?
I poured cereal and milk into a bowl. That was my breakfast.
Since today was Sunday, I had soccer practice.
Heather and I would usually go together.
Although it was only soccer practice, I changed into my soccer jersey. Coach told the team to wear it. She said we had to get use to playing with the jerseys.
My jersey number is eight and it has my name on it. Both were on the back of my jersey.
I put my hair into a ponytail and put a headband on to keep the strands of hair out of my face.
I grabbed my goalie gloves and then left the house. I ran to the park's soccer field.
"To start off today's practice; you'll do three laps around this park." Said Ms. Lugo, my soccer coach. "Not three lap over the field. Three laps around the whole park. Got it? "
"Yes." The whole team said.
"Yes, what?
"Yes, mam."
"Go!" We all went off jogging.
On my first lap, I saw Xavier. He was entering the park. He didn't see me. On my second, I saw him again. He just wondering around in the park , On my last lap , I saw him sitting in front of the rose bush. He sat in the exact same place when we talked
I stopped and look behind me, the others were nowhere in sight. I looked back to Xavier. Looking at Xavier made me full of rage. Not because of Xavier but because of Brandon. It's his fault I couldn't be with Xavier.
Xavier turned and saw me watching him.
No, it's not Brandon's fault, it's mine.
