Following our time at IHOP, Jordan and I headed off to school. As much as I was hoping that the wrathful rainstorm would cancel school, I wasn't exactly against going. I knew Will was going to be there--or at least, I was hoping he would be--and I planned to talk things out with him.

Was I nervous? Most definitely. Was I freaking out and possibly planning on finding a train to throw myself in front of to avoid actually seeing him? Maybe. But did I care about him enough to conquer my nervousness and fix things with him?

Absolutely.

As we pulled into the parking lot of the high school, I couldn't help but bring my hand up to fiddle with my mothers necklace. It had become a habit of mine in the days leading up to the competition, so I wasn't surprised when I went to do it.

But then I was hit with a rather... Disturbing discovery.

The necklace was gone.

My eyes widened as Jordy parked the car, unaware of the insane panic attack I was about to have.

"OH MY GOD! OH MY GOD IT'S GONE!" I exclaim in worry, rubbing my hands over my chest and legs, aimlessly trying to find the pendant.

Jordan jumped in his seat, looking over at me with wide eyes as I spazzed out in my spot. "WHAT?! WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?" He shouts loudly, staring at me as if I was insane.

"MY NECKLACE, JORDY! MY NECKLACE IS GONE!" I shout back just as loudly, still practically slapping my body in futile attempts to find a pendant that was long gone.

"OKAY! OKAY, WE NEED TO CALM DOWN!" He yells, grabbing my shoulders with his large man-hands. "TAKE DEEP BREATHS, TESS, DEEP BREATHS!"

I glare at him and snap. "SCREAMING AT ME TO CALM DOWN WILL NOT MAKE ME CALM DOWN YOU BAFOON!"

Jordan opened his mouth--probably getting ready to shout something in return--when a knocking on the windshield pulled us from our yelling-fest.

Turning our heads to look a the source of the noise, our gazes landed on a curious looking Julia. Seeing her standing there, Jordan sat up in his seat, straightening his clothes and clearing his throat. If you looked closely, you could probably see a tiny hint of blush on his cheeks.

I rolled my eyes. I was humored by the fact that he could be so smooth when it came to joking around with anybody, but when it came to Julia, he was as smooth as a jagged cliff.

Deciding to tell Julia about my extremely unfortunate circumstances, I hopped out of the car and shut the door behind me.

"If you are wondering why we were yelling, it was because I lost the one thing in this world that I cared about more than my skateboard." I deadpan at her before huffing and crossing my arms, aware of the light spray of rain.

It seems that the storm is now a sprinkle.

Peachy.

As I finished my blatant and depressing statement of my detrimental loss, Jordan climbed out of his car, standing to his full height and towering over Julia in the process.

"Wait, Tessa, was it your virginity?" Julia asked, trying to find clarification from the sentence I had delivered.

But really, of all things, she chooses that to ask about.

"No, Julia! My mother's pendant! It's gone!" I snap, agitated at the existence of matter itself at the moment.

"Oh. What do you mean gone?" She presses, furrowing her eyebrows as she looks at me intently.

I sigh and let out a tired groan, allowing my head to fall back as I send a close-eyed glare at the sky.

Stupid universe, always plotting against me when I did nothing against it.

"I mean, my necklace--the sapphire pendant that belonged to my deceased mother and had more value to me than the Mona Lisa--is no longer around my neck. It fell off." I say, agitation, exasperation, and tiredness evident in my voice.

I lift my head back up and take a glance at Julia and Jordy, seeing as this information slowly sinks in. Then, all of a sudden, it's like a lightbulb goes ding above their heads.

"Where is it!?" Jordan questions frantically, searching my body from head to toe, as if that would somehow help in finding my mother's necklace.

I scoffed and sent a small glare at him, the agitation that is my life slightly getting to me. "Oh yea, because if I knew I wouldn't be freaking out right now." I comment sardonically.

Jordan winces, causing me to feel extremely guilty for my behavior. I inhale and exhale a large breath, calming my current state of panic. "I'm sorry, Jordy. I just can't deal with this right now. Right when I thought things were starting to look up, I had to lose something really precious to me. I know it isn't an excuse, but I am sorry."

He sighs before walking around the car and wrapping an arm around my shoulders, pulling me in to kiss the side of my head. "It's okay Tess, I know you are stressed with everything."

Despite the tears brimming in the back of my eyes, I could still see Julia tense at the intimate gesture from Jordan.

Oh fudge no! I will not let my ship sink like this!

I took a deep breath as I pulled away from Jordan. Wiping the tears from my eyes, I looked up at him with a pained smile. "It's okay, I'm okay. We'll figure this out. I'll retrace my steps after school and hope for the best."

"Are you sure? Would that even work? Or be worth the time?" He asks me, his eyebrows furrowed in concern.

I nod my head solemnly. "It's a long shot, but that doesn't mean I'll miss." I glanced at Julia and gave her the 'get-on-him' eyes before looking back at Jordy. "I've got to get to class. See you at lunch yea?"

Not waiting for a response, I gave him one last hug before walking off to the school, trying my best to hide the sadness I was feeling.

I'll leave the two fracken lovebirds to converse while I find a bus to throw myself under.

The ringing of the bell signaled the ending of first period.

Alright, so there is English. Now to go to Geometry.

Which I share with Will.

Heaving out a long, tired, exasperated sigh, I adjusted my backpack on my shoulder as I trudged down the crowded hallway. So far, I had not seen will around. It was partly expected, seeing as we had a very large school and large body of students.

But still, one could hope and loathe at the same time.

I collected my needed belongings for Geometry before stomping grumpily down the hall and towards my next class. As I made my way in, I quickly scanned the room, searching for the boy who claims to be the Prince Charming of my twisted fairytale.

But he wasn't there.

My shoulders sulked on their own accord as I let my eyes fall the to floor in despair. Deciding to just sulk in my own self-pity, I walked to the back of the class and sunk into the desk chair lazily. I couldn't help but run a hand over my face, a wave of tiredness hitting me once I was off of my feet.

Lord, I just want a moment of peace. It seems I can never catch a break these days.

Slowly, I crossed my arms on my desk and rested my head on them, content with getting just a smidgen of rest.

It wouldn't hurt to take a little nap while I'm waiting for class to start.

Unfortunately, the universe in all of it's mocking glory had other plans.

But fortunately, those plans came in the form of the princely character in this story.

"Princess?" A very familiar voice called out to me. I turned my head, looking at the desk beside mine, finding the one and only William Thatcher occupying the seat.

"Hey, Will." I murmur softly, feeling my eyes droop as tiredness begins to overwhelm me.

Maybe talking things out can wait till after my nap...

A ghost of a smile passes on Will's lips as he looks at my sleepy form. "Hey there, Princess." He says, reaching out and softly running his knuckles over my cheek. "You seem tired."

I snort and roll my eyes. "Oh, really? I thought I was as energetic as a lightning bolt."

He chuckles and smiles at me, his deep blue eyes looking at me cautiously. "So... Um... Tessa I'm sorry. I know that it's no excuse and that you probably hate me and think I'm a terrible person and--"

"Shh." I mumble, placing a finger over his lips to keep him from rambling on and on about how awful he is. "I've already forgiven you. Did your words hurt? Yes, they did. But everyone makes mistakes, Will, and I'm not ready to lose our friendship over one. Besides, who else is going to help me keep my grades up?" At the last part, I give him a crooked smile, letting him know that I mean every single word that I am saying.

He laughs, and I am just now realizing the growing number of students in the room. None of them cared for me and Will, or our conversation.

It was as if Will and I were in our own world, bubbled up so that we could hold our conversation in a content peace. The rain that had picked up once again to be loud and harsh, only served to act as a calm further, the constant pitter and patter making everything feel relaxed.

"So you really forgive me? Are we good?" He asks me, his eyes showing vulnerability as he does so.

I give him a small smile and nod my head to his question. "Yes, we are."

He opened his mouth to say something else but I place my finger back on his lips. "Shush, it's nappy time." I say, causing him to chuckle as I get comfortable. "Don't let the teacher catch me, yea?"

As I drifted into a much need nap, I could still hear Will's words as he whispered them to me. "I'll watch your back, Princess. I'll always be there to watch your back."

And I had a feeling that he was talking about more than just my nap time.
