The time around her paused for God knows how many seconds as she slowly grasped his words. The trembling of her lips and her harbored breathing were the proofs of her unexplainable condition. She kept looking at him, in his honey brown eyes, trying to find even an ounce of lie or doubt.
However, she couldn't find any. The truthfulness and the determination was clearly evident in them, even under the dim lighting, her gaze didn't fail to catch the sincerity lying in his eyes.
"Wh-hat?" After trying really hard to produce a sound, she shakily muttered.
Tears gathered in those brown orbs and a small hint of smile appeared over his lips. He let out a shaky breath pulling her closer. Their breathing clashed filling both of them with nothing but warmth of each other.
"I love you, Sitara. I really do.." He confessed once again, this time, by gazing in her amber orbs. Without even blinking.
Kabir wanted to convey to her how sure he was while he confessed such thing. He wanted to assure her that the words he just spoke are not merely the words, rather, they were the voice of his broken heart which she healed in a short span of time.
The words he said didn't just come from his mouth. But, they come from his heart and mind. Both of his organs forced him to let out what they are feeling for her.
"I..."
She couldn't form proper words to speak. Sitara was overwhelmed by the emotions. Her mind had automatically stopped working. The overflowing of emotions was too hard to bear.
Kabir realised he might have committed a mistake. Not by telling her his feelings but by not making the environment comfortable enough for her.
He realised he could have planned a perfect proposal in a proper way but the moment he saw her today, he knew Sitara has become a part of his life. The very part which will make him breathless if he wouldn't see her, touch her and feel her.
However, he was aware he might have rushed things and that it would be hard for Sitara to digest this. So, he gave her the required space.
"I am not expecting your reply, Tara. Tell me whenever you feel like." He said leaving her hands. The lost of warmth left a void inside him but he tried to ignore that feeling.
"It's late. I should probably go now." Sitara muttered collecting her bag which was kept beside her.
"Yeah.." Kabir responded lowering his head.
She got off from the bench and blinked away the tears while sniffling. He took got off and tucked his hands in his pocket maintaing a respectful distance with her.
"Text me once you reach." He said.
The main gate of her hostel was just few steps away but his room was nearly twenty minutes away from here. Yet, he always waited till she gets inside safely and was doing the same thing tonight.
"You too. Bye." With that, she turned her back towards him and took a deep shaky breath.
She was literally running towards the gate. Her heart was thumping wildly inside her chest and she could hear the pounding of it very clearly.
Sitara started panting heavily once she entered inside the hostel. Keeping her palm on the left side of her chest, she tried calming her wild heartbeats by rubbing it on her chest.
She leaned against the wall and closed her eyes.
"I love you, Tara.."
Her eyes snapped open recalling his words. She immediately took out her phone from the bag and typed a message then sent it to him.
"Reached."
She knew he wouldn't move from there until she messages him that she reached safely. She knows him better.
A small smile, mixed with happiness and a bit nervousness formed on her lips. As her breathing normalised, she heaved a sigh of relief.
He actually confessed, Sitara!
The voice spoke from inside her. Kabir just confessed his feelings to her. He loves her. Yes, he loves her and his eyes spoke everything more than his words could.
She leaned her back against the wall and shed the tears of happiness. The tears of joy, nervousness, hesitance and..love.
.
.
She was staring at the ceiling fan with wide awake eyes. Sleep was far away from them. The only thing going inside her head was his confession and the way he was looking at her, holding her.
For the first time, she experienced something this pure. Yes, she has been proposed before. Three times to be precise in school days. But none of them seemed genuine or even close to it.
The boys were basically unknown to her, two were her seniors and one was her classmate with whom she rarely interacted before. She always searched for truthfulness and determination in their eyes.
That's why when Kabir confessed, the first thing she did was to look in his eyes and tried to find any hint of uncertainty or lie there but couldn't find any.
She was happy, yes. Because, somewhere she knew whatever she felt about Kabir was not merely an attraction. A simple phase of crush which would probably fade as soon as it happened.
But the days she spent without him, made her realise that the feelings has grown inside her, they have developed into something beyond attraction and something just so pure and true.
"Stupid, Sitara." She muttered hitting her head. "Why did you behave that way? What he must be thinking now??" She was cursing herself for not responding properly but at that time, she was just not in the right state of her mind.
Immediately, she picked her phone and opened his chat. He was not online and it was midnight. She bit her lip contemplating whether she should text at this time or wait till the morning.
"There is still so much time left." She muttered closing her eyes. She didn't want to disturb him at this time.
Nevertheless, her heart didn't agree to this and she quickly typed a message and send it to him.
Crossing her fingers, she closed her eyes and put the phone aside as her heart beat grew faster. She didn't know what would she say over the text but she just wanted to talk to him and maybe let him know what she feels.
She waited for him to see the message. However, he was offline as the message didn't show double tick which meant either he was on a call or his net was off.
Keeping her phone on the pillow beside her, she kept looking at it, waiting for him to read it. But he didn't.
Her eyes started feeling heavy and soon sleep took over her...

The loud ringing of alarm broke his sleep. His hand flew to stop the irritating sound, he always hated this particular sound but this sound indeed helps him waking up early in the morning.
Rubbing his eyes, he kept looking at the ceiling for good two minutes. He stretched his body while still laying on the bed and grabbed his phone kept beside the bed. His heartbeat suddenly fastened as he unlocked it hastily with expectations of her messages. Although, he knew it wouldn't be possible.
"Fuck!" Kabir cursed seeing the notification of her text. Immediately, he sat up on the bed and opened the message.
"Fucker...bastard...idiot..." He showered himself with curse words. If only he hadn't slept last night.
He was awake till two and was waiting for her message. He didn't realise when his eyes closed on their own and the ringing of the alarm broke his sleep.
He could feel his pulse thudding in his temples, a relentless drumbeat that matched the pace of his nervous thoughts. His fingers trembled as he held his phone
"Good morning! Sorry..I slept early so couldn't see your text."
He quickly typed a reply and sent it. His heart beat grew furious as the message showed blue ticks and she was online.
"Morning! It's fine. Can you come and hour before the class starts?"
A smile made it's way to his lips but soon faded as he realised she might reject him and that's why she was asking to meet early. The negative thoughts in his mind overpowered the positive possibilities.
His mind played every possible scenario, each one more torturous than the last.
A weird kind of feeling settled in the pit of his stomach. The screen blurred before his eyes, and he rubbed them, cursing the way every small thing now seemed overwhelming.
He was scared. Scared to loose her forever. A part of him was now regretting, maybe he shouldn't have confessed. Maybe this confession of his will mark the end of their friendship.
A bead of sweat formed at the back of his neck, and he shifted on the bed, suddenly too hot in his own skin. The thought alone scared the hell out of him.
Without wasting another second, he rushed to the washroom after taking out his clothes from the small cupboard.

Sitara smiled while looking at her reflection in the mirror. Indeed, she was looking pretty. She had decided to wear her favorite anarkali kurta set, the one she has never worn here, before.
She put on her small oxidised jhumkas and completed her look with a small black bindi and glanced herself for the last time before taking her bag and exiting the room.
Roshni was still sleeping as she had no classes today and Sitara was glad because she got the washroom all for herself which helped her in getting ready before the decided time.
She skipped the breakfast as her stomach was doing weird flip flops since this morning. She knew the morsel wouldn't go down ger thorat until she tells him her feelings.
The weather was hot but not too hot. The clouds were gathered in the sky showing possibilities of downpour. She asked Kabir to meet her in their classroom as she knew no one would be there because their classes will not start before eleven.
Though, she told him to come by ten but she herself was fifteen minutes early. She wanted some alone time to practice whatever she was about to say.
Upon reaching the college, she didn't find much students just few people here and there. Most of them were gathered in the playground.
She reached the floor where her classes run. The whole area was silent and vacant making her release a sigh of relief.
"Finally..." She muttered stepping closer towards her classroom.
His hands were fumbling with the edge of his crisp black shirt. He was continuously adjusting his glasses while wiping the sweat off his forehead. The AC was working yet he was feeling hot.
His fingers were tapping a quick, nervous rhythm on the desk. A faint sound from the door caught his attention and he shifted his gaze towards the door.
A gasp left Sitara's mouth as soon she opened the door and her gaze fell on him. Her hand quickly flew to the left side of her chest to calm her heartbeat.
She was surprised seeing him already there. Disappointment filled her senses as she realised now she won"t be getting any alone time.
Kabir was already sitting on their seat. He immediately got off from his seat upon seeing her.
He held his breath, hoping he wasn’t making a fool of himself, hoping that the silence would stretch long enough for her to say something, anything.
She was looking like a dream. Seeing her, he totally forgot whatever he had memorized to say here.
He forced a smile, a small, tentative thing, almost like an apology in case she wanted nothing to do with him after this.
"Hey!" Sitara smiled nervously entering inside.
She was trembling from inside. Her lips had become dry suddenly so she sweeped her tongue over them.
"Hii." He doubted if she heard it or not.
Sitara walked towards him and now both of them were standing just few feets away from each other. She offered him a gentle smile.
She was awestruck by him. He was looking so hot in that black crisp shirt and blue denims. She could see the redness in his eyes which made her heart clench.
Was he crying?
She wondered worriedly feeling a pang of guilt hit her chest.
He felt his heart pounding so hard he was sure she could hear it, too. She was close to him but he didn't know for how long will she stay this close. What if the smile she just gave was out of pity?
Sitara opened her mouth but before she could say something, Kabir beat her to it.
"I...I ca-an totally unde-erstand..of yo-ou don't. J-just forget ab-bout.." He sighed heavily looking down, his voice shivering a bit. "I said wha-at I feel...th-here is no ne-eed.----
His words stopped coming out suddenly as she pressed her palm on his mouth, shutting him up. His eyes widened at the act. Goosebumps rose all over his skin feeling her touch on his lips.
"Listen to me. Okay?"
He nodded slowly and she retreated back her hand.
Taking another step closer, she looked in his eyes with something so pure and so real that he felt himself getting lost in those orbs.
She looked down for a moment, then took a deep breath, her eyes shimmering with something he couldn’t quite read. When she finally met his gaze, it was like the air shifted, a mix of determination and vulnerability danced across her features.
“I have been thinking about this too,” she began, her voice steady but soft, each word carefully chosen. “About us.”
He felt a rush of hope surge within him, but it was quickly tempered by the memory of all his fears. He leaned slightly forward, desperate to catch every nuance of her expression, to decode the message behind her words.
“I never wanted to rush into anything,” she continued, her voice trembling ever so slightly. “But the truth is… I care about you, more than I’ve ever let on. You make me feel safe and understood.” She paused, and for a brief moment, he felt like he might explode with anticipation.
The fear slowly fading from his mind and his heart.
Sitara held his large and rough yet warm hand in her soft yet cold ones. Tears filling her eyes but she blinked them away.
"I love you, Kabir." The murmur left her lips making his heart skip a beat. "I love you too..." He felt a wave of relief wash over him, the tension in his shoulders easing as he took in her words.
Though, his mind still took some time to grasp what she actually said and once it did, his joy had no boundaries.
Her eyes caught the question in his eyes. The act of confirmation. His poor heart needed more proof to make itself happy.
She inches closer to him and leaned towards his face, standing on her tip toes to match his tall frame. His breath got caught in his throat feeling her hot breath on his left cheek which soon got replaced by her wet and warm lips.
Sitara got back on her position. Her smile, shy yet radiant, was all the answer he needed.
“Yes, I really do.”...
