Satoru was fidgeting with his pencil when the end of a pencil poked into his arm causing him to jump.
"Are you tweaking out or something?" Shoko asked raising her right eyebrow at him as she leaned her face onto her left palm as she continues to poke his arm.
"No, I am not tweaking I'm just bored that's all." He grunted and swatted her pencil away as he rolled his light eyes at her annoyed.
"Jeez someone missed his nap time." She huffed sarcastically as she retracted her arm and leaned back in her chair and looked back forward at their teacher.
Satoru felt his stomach churn with anxiety, it was his first ever play and he was one of the leads? It made him want to puke in fear, what if he messed up? He glanced over at the clock and felt like he had to force the bile back down his throat as he saw there was only twenty minutes left of class before it would be time for him to get ready for the play, that meant that an hour and thirty minutes from now he'd be on stage in front of their sold out show acting out on that stage...
He didn't realize he had zoned out as his worried thoughts swirled, though the bell sure did give him a fright.
With wide eyes he watched everyone getting up to leave, Satoru would grab his bag and stand up as well, mindlessly following the group not joining in on their conversation as they walked down the hallway to the two flights of stairs they had to walk down.
"Something wrong Gojo?"
Suguru's voice stole his attention from his nervousness as he turned his gaze to the long haired boy.
"Oh- nothing I'm fine." He replied with a small smile as they went down the stairs behind Kento, Shoko and Yu.
"You're nervous, I'm right aren't I?" Suguru was right and they both knew it. Satoru looked forward at the others who were taking their shoes off and trading them for their outside shoes, Shoko was coming to the play but Kento and Yu already had plans so they couldn't.
"Okay yeah you're right. But don't go rubbing it in my face Geto." Satoru grumbled and crossed his arms, only uncrossing them to wave bye to the three as they left the school, Shoko didn't live too far so she would be going home before coming back to watch him preform.
"I wouldn't, I'm sad to hear you think so little of me." The other would sigh with a unserious tone, though it was easy to tell he meant he wouldn't make fun of Satoru for it.
"I just... What if I mess a line up? Or drop a prop? Or I mess up my blocking??" The snow haired boy rambled as they began walking towards the auditorium which would be set up with their first back drop, though Suguru wasn't allowed in there yet so instead he made his way towards the male changing room- it was cool since he was a lead he got his own room to change in.
"I think you'll do just fine, anyway if you mess up I'll just make sure I forgot it ever happened." Suguru chuckled as he walked into the room as Satoru held the door for him, both sitting on the floor across from each other as they talked.
"Pfft, well that doesn't matter because everyone else won't forget! And my dad is coming! I know my mom wouldn't mention it but my dad would... And I really want to make him proud with this, he'll see how hard I and my cast mates worked, he'll see that it isn't just dress up." Satoru would mess with his hands as he spoke, everything about him was serious which wasn't too common.
There was some silence in the room before Suguru broke it.
"Well if he doesn't think you're super cool then he's just stupid."
They paused and stared at each other for a few seconds before they burst into laughter.
"Alright now get out of here I gotta change into my costume, so you can wait outside, unless you wanna stay in here?"
"Nope I'm out."
Satoru laughed and stood up and walked over to where his costume was hung up as he heard Suguru leave the room.
The slender boy would change into the dated costume, the poofy shoulder sleeve and the tight pants were definitely not something he was used too, especially the colors... But he put the hat with the feather on and the cape, turning to the door and opening it waving Suguru in.
"Well isn't that.. An interesting costume. " the other commented as he walked in and observed his costume.
"I know, but it's what he wore in the professional plays and in the movies so we gotta stay true to the literature, and Juliet's costume is so elegant it's amazing." Satoru would explain, though he did feel a little nerdy.
"Well I think it looks nice on you, it kinda suits you." Suguru observed.
He felt his cheeks heat up a little at the comment as he looked back down at himself, "Really?" He would ask somewhat curiously.
"Yeah I don't know, just makes you seem fancy."
"Awww so you think I'm fancy???"
"Don't push it."
° When Satoru had to go back stage he made his way to his seat, he had made sure to get one in the front row.
Why?
Well he just wanted to see everything up close, he wanted to show his best friend that he was there to support him and was actually watching the whole thing.
Their director would come out and give a little introduction speech, explaining the summary of the play, thanking their supporters and then hurrying off the stage as the lights dimmed and the curtains opened for the opening scene.
As the play went on he felt himself becoming more and more enthralled by the play, it was really like watching a movie or a show, just in real life and put on by his peers.
Then came the scene where Romeo and his friends broke into the Capulet party, finding Juliet and immediately wishing to be with her.
"If I profane with my unworthiest hand, this holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss." Satoru would proclaim as he speaks in character, Suguru giggled the first few times he heard him talk like that, but it was actually really cool that his friend could act like a completely different person, to be so lost in the character as he clearly was. In that moment he wasn't Satoru, he was Romeo.
"Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, which mannerly devotion shows in this; For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, and palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss." Tsukimi would reply, though their hands ghosted each other's as they circled each other closely, their palms only inches apart.
"Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?"
"Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer."
"O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do; They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair." As Satoru spoke their circling slowed, though their palms were still not yet touching.
"Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake." She replied with a small shake of her head and a smile that contradicted her dismissive head shake.
"Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take." With that they stopped circling and pressed their palms together, their fingers intertwining as Satoru put his free hand to her cheek and kissed her with his eyes closed.
Suguru shivered slightly, though he couldn't pry his eyes from the scene, the acting so phenomenal it felt real.. The kiss looked so gentle, subconsciously his finger raised to his own lips, touching them softly before his cheeks turned a bright red and he quickly placed his hand back into his lap, glad that in the darkness of the audience that no one could see what he had done.
Why had he done that??
The play continued and he was astounded by the sword fights as they got more intense, it was obvious just how much these actors had practice to get all of these things right, it was so impressive.. He knew he could never do something so amazing.
Then as the end drew near Romeo and Paris world fight outside of Juliets tomb, Romeo killing Paris and as requested by Paris he lays him by Juliet, then turns to her and frowns as she laid still.
"Shall I believe that unsubstantial death is amorous, and that the lean abhorrèd monster keeps thee here in dark to be his paramour for fear of that I still will stay with thee and never from this palace of dim night depart again. Here, here will I remain with worms that are thy chambermaids. O, here will I set up my everlasting rest and shake the yoke of inauspicious stars from this world-wearied flesh! Eyes, look your last. Arms, take your last embrace. And, lips, O, you the doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss dateless bargain to engrossing death." Satoru gave his monologue as he caresses Juliets cheek, then leans in and kisses her lips once more before reaching for a bottle of poison.
"Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavory guide! Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the dashing rocks thy seasick weary bark! Here's to my love. O true apothecary, thy drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die." With that he chugged the liquid inside and then clutched his throat before falling to the floor. Though unknown to Romeo, Juliet wasn't dead, she was only asleep under the effects of a medicine. Which she would wake up from soon after his death.
When she woke she was confused on to where Romeo was, though when Frair Lawrence explained she'd send him away so she could sit next to Romeo, hugging his body before she kissed him and then gasped in shock.
"Thy lips are warm!"
Paris's servant Page and the watch man he was sent to go find began to be heard off stage so Juliet looked back and then looked down to Romeo.
"Yea, noise? Then I'll be brief. O, happy dagger, this is thy sheath. There rust, and let me die." Tsukimi spoke as she grabbed her dead lovers dagger and then closed her eyes as she stabbed herself then fell besides him in death.
After the last scene everyone stood up to applause, the actors and actresses bowing, Satoru and Tsukimi bowing together at the end before the curtains closed.
Suguru got up and rushed over to find Satoru, though he lost sight of his white hair fitted with the plume topped hat, though after a few minutes he found him leaving the auditorium. Following him the best he could with the crowd he'd lose sight of him again but he knew where to find the other.
He'd make his way to Satoru's changing room and knocked on the door as he saw the light peeking through the underneath of the door, the room oddly silent.
"Are you decent or should I wait a little?"
Suguru stood in front of the door with his hand on the handle waiting for the others response.
"Come in."
When the permission was given he opened the door and saw the others back turned toward him, he was now back in his school uniform his costume presumably in his bag.
"You did great out there! I'm shocked, I thought it would be kinda boring to be honest but it was actually so amazing!! Also Ieiri told me to tell you that she really liked the play but had to go home right after it ended." Suguru cheered with a smile, "You were so in character I almost forgot it was you." He added with a small laugh.
"Thanks." Satoru replied dryly his back still turned to the other who was congratulating him so excitedly.
"Hm? Nothing went wrong did it? If so I didn't notice and neither did like- anyone else."
"He didn't show up."
"Who?-" then it clicked.
Satoru would lift his arm to his face and sniffled, though he made sure to keep his back turned to him. Suguru stepped closer with his arm extended, should he?
"My mom said he told her he was too tired to come. Too tired." The boy repeated what his mom had told him, the emotions he was trying to suppress seemingly breaking through with his words.
Suguru's hand met the others shoulder and he squeezed it softly.
"I'm so-"
The other turned around so quickly it almost made Suguru dizzy, though when he locked eyes with him he saw the others pale skin red and scratchy around his eyes and tears slipping down from the emotion filled crystal blue gaze.
Suddenly he was embraced by the slightly taller boy, Satoru pressing his face into his shoulder as he cried.
"He was too tired to show up to his own sons play, I worked so ha-hard! And he can't even bother to s-show up!" His wail was muffled by Suguru's shoulder which was now wet with tears.
Suguru didn't know how to react, so instead he rubbed the others back slowly as he cried.
"It's his fault for missing out, it's not-"
"I don't know why I can't just be good enough for him, it's like I'm some bur-"
"I'm not gonna let you finish that sentence." Suguru said firmly as he grabbed the others shoulders and pushed him forward slightly so they made eye contact. "It is NOT your fault that he decided not to show up, there is no one else to blame here but HIM. Okay? He has no reason not to be proud of you, you're smart, you're incredibly social and you're good at literally everything, so don't put yourself down." He instructed his tone sharp and serious as they kept intense eye contact.
"Bu-But.."
He let out a frustrated sigh and grabbed the others face and squeezed slightly.
"You're not listening to me Satoru! You all put on a spectacular show you hear me? You have every reason to be proud as fuck! So what your dad didn't show up? He missed out on a damn good play! Now let's stop that crying and get you out there to celebrate with everyone alright?" Suguru restated, his voice strong and firm. He felt a prickle of worry as he saw the others expression change to something he couldn't decipher, did he go to far..?
"Satoru?" The white haired boy asked with a small smile.
Suguru felt his cheeks heat up slightly and he grumbled and pushed the other away barely and turned around walking briskly to the door.
"Come on, I'll be waiting for you outside." He grunted as he opened the door and began to step out.
"Alright, I'll be right out Suguru."
He closed the door just after the other called his name. Leaning against the wall besides the door he covered his warm face, for some reason he really liked how his name sounded as it left Satoru's lips, it was almost like a song.
