Caroline's POV
I finally made it home after a whirlwind of a 24 hours. I dig through my bag to find my apartment keys and make my way up the elevator and down the hall. As soon as I get to my door, I see a vase full of assorted flowers on my welcome mat. I pick up the vase and find a little notecard sticking out of the top, it reads "miss u pretty girl -km", you're joking. How did she know my apartment?
I unlock the door, lug my bags inside, and set the vase on the counter. I immediately FaceTime Kate, she opens with "miss me already?"
"I think you missed me first", I laugh, turning the camera around to show her that I got the flowers she sent. "How'd you do this?"
"Magicians never reveal their secrets", she said with a shrug. She was so attractive. Beyond just being incredibly gorgeous. She has an attractive personality that just draws you to her. I guess that's why they called her the Glue.
We talked as I unpacked my bags before hanging up and going to bed.
Kate's POV
I've been home for a few days. It was such a surreal experience. Being in New York with my best friends, getting drafted to play professionally, and meeting my dream girl. I don't know if I've ever missed someone so much. Besides my nephew, Carson. There was just something so special about Caroline. I know I just met her, but I don't know if I can live without her.
We have talked all day every day since then. During one of our conversations at the Draft, she mentioned the name of her apartment complex. I called a florist in Nashville and had some flowers sent to her the day she got back from New York. If I could give this girl the moon, stars & Saturn I would.
I had to start packing some necessities before I go to Las Vegas for training camp. I don't want to take too much because I'll be staying in a hotel until camp is over. I'm a little nervous getting ready to go to training camp, but I know that I have this opportunity because people find me capable. And if I get cut, then it wasn't meant to be. I'm still grateful I made it this far.
Gabbie and Jada came to my apartment to help me pack. We also were all trying to spend as much time together as we could before I left for Vegas and Gabbie left for UNC. Caitlin was already gone to Indiana. Jada is staying here in Iowa.
"Sooo... Caroline..." Gabbie said raising her eyebrows and grinning.
"So Caroline?" I said back, trying to not let on that I was completely obsessed with her.
"Have you guys talked much since you were all over each other in New York?" Jada said, sprawled out across my bed.
"Ehh, not too much." I really did not want them to know I sent her flowers the next day and have talked nearly 24/7 since then. That would make me look crazy. Crazy for Caroline.
Both Gabbie and Jada went back and forth with me talking about how pretty and fun Caroline was and how I should try to make a move on her even though she was hours away. I couldn't keep this little "secret" from my best friends much longer, I know they can see right through me.
I break the chatter, "okay. I sent flowers to her apartment the day she got back from New York. We talk every single day, all day. And she said she's already looking at flights to come see me in Vegas."
They both turn their heads towards me and smile.
"Ow owww!!! Money movess!!!" Jada said, followed by laughter between all of us.
We all continued to talk about Caroline, my nerves about training camp, and all of our futures. I crammed as much of my stuff into a few suitcases as I could. By then it was 10:00, tomorrow was my last full day in Iowa City and I was exhausted. Gabbie and Jada left, so I was getting ready to go to bed. I headed to the bathroom to get ready for bed, and picked up my phone to call Caroline.
"Hi beautiful."
"Hi Kate", she was already in bed, but even with no makeup and pajamas she was the most beautiful girl in the world.
We spent the next hour or so talking while I packed up a few things I had forgot about earlier. I eventually got into bed, and we ended up falling asleep on FaceTime, which is not an uncommon occurrence.
