Karina's outfit is above!
chapter three.
"You're all coming to the carnival tonight right?" Karina asked her family as they cleaned up the table.
Andrew looked up from his laptop and smiled at her, "Of course honey. William is excited about it and said that Jeremy even promised to play some games with him."
Karina smiled at that, "Good. I really want you to come, it'll be nice having you and mom not working for a day."
Aurora kissed the side of Karina's head softly, "I know our schedules suck but don't worry, we'll work on it."
Aurora was a doctor in this life, much Karina's last which meant she often had to go in at odd times. Andrew was a realtor in this life, and he was a really good one, but sometimes he had to travel to show off houses. Still, despite their hectic work schedule, the two parents always made time for William and Karina.
"Speaking of Will, where is he?" Karina asked softly as she noticed he had run off while they cleared the table.
"He went to get his sketchbook for school, he has an art project to do." Andrew told her while he looked back at his computer.
"How has things with Elena been?" Aurora asked and Karina shrugged. "No more vampire drama?"
Karina shot her mother a look, "You know that's not possible." Aurora smiled softly at her, and Karina continued, "Apparently as you know, Mayor Lockwood went down but we know he's a werewolf, the others do not and I don't really feel like telling them, I think it'll be fun for them to find out themselves."
"Rin, you know their bite kills right?" Andrew asked her with a chuckle.
"Maybe a bite will teach them a lesson." Karina joked making Aurora nudge her with a laugh. "Katherine has showed herself and tried to scare me by mentioning Will so I showed her just who I was, and I think with her arrival, more drama will come."
Now, it was no secret that Aurora and Andrew knew about vampires, in fact they knew more than anyone would probably give them credit for. Due to Aurora being a Clark, that meant she knew things and in turn since meeting and being with Andrew, he also knew things and in time they would talk to William about it all as they didn't want to keep him in the dark about these things.
Aurora and Andrew were very active in the council, more than ever since Damon had infiltrated it and they didn't trust him. They stayed in the shadows of the council, stepping in when needed as their influence was as strong as the Lockwood family.
Karina kept her parents in the loop, it was all they asked of her when they learned that Stefan and Damon Salvatore were back in town and followed by this mess. They knew that Karina cared deeply about Elena, Bonnie, Jeremy, and Tyler which meant she would want to help if she could and they knew that they couldn't force her nor would they want to, so they asked to be kept in the loop.
That promise has been kept so far with the notion that should it reveal itself to be getting out of hand and hectic, they would make Karina step back for her own safety, to which Karina agreed.
"Alright, I'm off to school." Karina said when she spotted William coming down the stairs with his backpack. "I love you guys, see you later."
With a kiss on the cheek and a hug, Karina and William left for the day.

Karina walked over to Jeremy and wrapped her arms around him, surprising the boy before he hugged her back.
"Are you alright?" She asked him while pulling away and looking him over. "I heard what happened."
Jeremy nodded his head, "I'm a little freaked out but I'm alright."
Karina dug into her bag and pulled out a silver ring, "I got you this."
Jeremy feigned a shocked gasp and placed a hand over his heart. "Are you asking me to marry you?"
Karina couldn't help but laugh as she played along, she went down on one knee, thankful to be wearing shorts underneath her skirt, she held up the ring. "Jeremy Gilbert," She pretended to wipe away a tear, "Will you do me the honor in wearing this spelled ring that I made to protect you?"
Jeremy pretended to wipe his own tears as he nodded his head, "Oh my god, yes!"
Karina and he burst out laughing, the two bending at the waist as they held their stomachs and let out loud laughs. Jeremy took the ring from her and slipped it on his finger, immediately he felt a bit warmer which caused him to look at her in awe.
"I've spelled it, just like I've spelled all the jewelry that my family, Tyler, and Jenna wears." She explained to him. "Basically, if someone tries to harm you then it'll create a shield around you."
"Really?" Jeremy asked in awe, "Is that better than this ring?" Karina looked at his hand as he held it up to her to show her his ring. "It's a Gilbert ring that brings us back to life if we die due to supernatural causes."
Karina looked at the ring before angling them so that no one would see her, she took his hand, and he watched as her eyes had this red hue in them as she chanted softly. Her eyebrows furrowed together for a moment before she pulled away and shook her head at him.
"All magic comes with a cost, bringing someone back to life as many times as needed when caused by the supernatural comes with a cost." She told him with a frown. "No matter how good it is, it's going to mess with your mind mentally at some point."
"So, like make us go crazy?" He asked her while twisting it around his finger.
"I can't be certain." She told him softly, "I would need to see the original spell and analyze it, but I'd say to wear my ring and that one, while my ring will always protect you, if something happens to me then the spell will drop."
"Don't say that." Jeremy scolded her with a frown of his own.
Karina gave him a small smile, "And my ring will also protect you from compulsion." She reached into her back again and gave him several vials of liquid. "This is vervain, from today forward, you will take several drops a day in whatever you drink. It should last you a while before you run out. While jewelry can protect you from it, it's easier and safer to ingest it."
"So, it's poisonous to vampires?" Jeremy asked her.
"It is." Karina nodded her head.
"Why vervain?" He questioned with a tilt of his head.
Karina shrugged, "To keep the balance of nature. While vampires are technically immortal, nature found a way to weaken them in order to keep the balance. The same with witches, there is a specific flower that can weaken us, but we don't go around telling people that." Karina told him with a grin.
Stefan then walked over to the two and Karina stiffened, "Jeremy, hey, I wanted to give you this."
When he pulled out a bracelet to show him, Karina shook her head. "I already gave him something to protect himself but to each their own." She inched forward and kissed Jeremy's cheek before leaving the two. "I'm off, I have a carnival to work on."
With that, Karina waved at Jeremy before disappearing down the hallway leaving the two boys to talk even though Karina had already given Jeremy more than enough protection.

Later that night, Karina was holding William's hand as they separated from their parents wanting to give the two time alone.
"Tyler!" William shouted and Tyler looked over to see the two.
Tyler smiled and crouched down when William ran towards him, he easily caught the 12-year-old and lifted him up. "What's up little man?" Tyler laughed as he spun William around before setting him back on the ground.
"We left mom and dad to give them time together." William explained to him with a wide smile. "I wanted to play some games with you and Jeremy."
It was no secret that Tyler and Jeremy never got along, but when around William the two had a silent agreement to call a truce. It was Karina's doing that William had met Tyler, who also had a thing for drawing, which had helped with making the two grow closer together. So, from time to time, William would join Karina and Tyler on their outings and sometimes Jeremy would tag along as well, creating a group of the four hanging out.
Personally, Karina loved it when they didn't fight, it made it so much simpler.
"Alright, let's do that." Tyler agreed with a smile. "Ready to lose, Rina?"
Karina scoffed as she smiled back at him, "My baby brother's watching, I can't lose."
The three began walking and Jeremy immediately spotted them, he walked over to them and in turn evaded a possible interaction with Damon who was watching them from afar. Karina caught his gaze and glared at him for only a second, causing him to wince before she looked away acting as if she hadn't done anything.
Many, many games later, William and Karina had put their collection of prizes into her car. Tyler and Jeremy had won them both prizes with Karina and William doing them same with them. Once they had finished putting their prizes away, they found their parents and began spending time with them.
Karina noted how her dad had won several prizes for her mom which made her internally awe over it. They bought popcorn and cotton candy as they went on the Ferris Wheel and played some more games together.
Eventually, it was clear that William couldn't stay awake any more as their dad carried him while the boy was dozing off against him.
"We'll take William home." Andrew chuckled while kissing the side of Karina's head. "Get home safely."
"I always do." Karina smiled before letting her mother kiss her head as well before they left for their car. Karina spotted Tyler walking over to her and she smiled at the sight of him. "You leaving too?"
Tyler nodded his head and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, "Yeah, we had fun but after a while I just want to go home."
"My mom made adobo before we left, want to come over and have some?" Karina offered while resting her head against him.
Tyler smiled, "Girl you know that I would never turn down your mother's cooking."
Karina laughed, "Your compliments always give my mom a big head."
"Good because I don't know how my mom and I would've survived without her food." Tyler told her with a smile. "We know my mom can't cook and I don't really feel like eating out all the time."
"My mother is a god send." Karina hummed making Tyler laugh in agreement.
The two were talking quietly when someone roughly shoulder checked Tyler causing the two to stumbled together and Karina could tell that Tyler was ticked off.
"Watch where you're going." Tyler told the man while standing in front of Karina protectively.
"You got a problem?" The man asked and Karina got a wave of uncertainty from the man.
"Yeah, you walked right into us." Tyler told him.
"What are you going to do about it?" The man questioned and Karina knew this wasn't going to be good.
Tyler scoffed, "You're kidding right?" The man then pushed Tyler making Karina's eyes widen. "You better back off." Tyler warned him while Karina quickly stepped to the side when the man pushed him again. "You hit me again, I swear to god-"
Tyler was cut off when the man threw a punch making Karina gasp, she wanted to intervene, cast a spell but she hadn't talked to Tyler about her being a witch. The two began to wrestle almost, trying to see who would go down first because that would then decide what happened next.
"Mason!" Karina shouted when she spotted the man, and he didn't hesitate to run over.
"Hey, Tyler!" Mason shouted as he broke the two apart and stood in between them. He pushed the man away from Tyler, "What the hell man?"
The man pushed Mason's hand away then tried to advance but Mason grabbed his throat, Karina's eyes widened when the man hit his hand away before punching him in the face. He advanced again, almost like he couldn't stop himself and Karina realized that Damon was instigating this most likely.
"Alright enough." Karina snapped before she waved her hand and the man immediately dropped to the floor.
Tyler looked at her shocked, he could see the red hue in her eyes. "Rina? What the hell just happened?"
Karina sighed and ran a hand down her face, "I'll explain at my house." She promised before looking over her shoulder, "Meet me by my car, I'll get someone to pick this guy up."
Tyler wanted to argue but Mason quickly pulled him away, leading him to Karina's car which was near his own jeep. Karina watched as they walked away before she turned around and glared in a certain direction, immediately she could hear someone crying.
"Tell Damon that if he tries this again then I won't be as forgiving as I am right now." Karina snapped as she approached Stefan's crumbled figure. "I'm warning you now, touch Tyler or Mason again and I'll kill you."
Stefan could only nod as he cried out in pain making Karina smile before she released him from her spell. She turned on her heel and stepped over the unconscious man's body before walking to her car where Tyler was already waiting for her with a panicked look on his face.
"Karina, what the hell was that?" Tyler asked her warily.
Karina sighed, "It's a long story, let's not talk here."

like I said, I'm changing a lot from the main plot when it comes to S2.
honestly I felt like they did Tyler so dirty with this season, literally he had no one and the one person he did have was Caroline but she was lying to him the entire time so his reaction to it all was understandable.
but again, it's going to be different in my story and I can't wait to show you how!
