Jason POV

It's all come full circle. The government fucks up, and now they're covering their tracks. And Jessie... How did all this happen? Either way, Frank and I are the only ones who can shed some light on what really happened here. So it doesn't matter if the government has decided to give us the finger. We'll get out of here, and make sure that all the lives lost weren't for nothing. But to do that, we gotta survive the government cleanup.

Frank and I rushed back to the secret hideout. As we were running through Paradise Plaza, we could hear gunfire coming from the Entrance Plaza. The operation started, and we needed to get out of sight fast. Thankfully we were able to take out any zombies we came across silently. If the special forces were to hear extra gunfire, they'd definitely know that there were survivors.

We made it back, and managed to avoid detection from the special forces. They've even deployed an attack helicopter to patrol the park to see if there are survivors. Thankfully, we avoided being spotted by it. We got back, and we saw Isabella sitting by the computer. Isabella looked at us.

Isabella:... Where are your friends?

Frank:... The military got to em' first...

Jason: We weren't fast enough...

Isabella: Oh... I'm sorry...

After that, nothing was said. We just sat in silence. Only the sound of distant gunfire could be heard.

11 hours later

We were cutting it really close, but we didn't want to take any risks. If we're caught by the military, then it's all over.

We waited for 11 hours, but the sound of gunfire ceased, and the sounds of helicopters flying away could be heard.

Frank: *checks watch* We've got one hour. If we're gonna leave, we have to go now!

Jason: Alright. Let's go, Isabella-

Isabella: No...

Frank and I looked at her confused.

Frank: What do you mean "no"?! If we're not there by 12, then we're stuck here!

Jason: Frank's right, we have to go.

Isabella: Don't worry about me... This is my punishment... So I'm staying.

Jason: Isabella, we don't have time to debate whether or not you deserve to be left behind. We need to go, and you're coming with us, that's final!

Isabella:.... *sighs* Ok.

We all leave the hideout, and when we got to the main hall of the North Plaza, we were met with zombie corpses everywhere. Ignoring the corpses, we ran past all of them, and made our way to the roof of the security room.

When we arrived, there was no sign of a helicopter approaching.

Jason: Frank, check the time.

Frank: *checks watch* It's 5 minutes till noon.

Jason: He should be here... Where the hell is he?!

3rd Person POV

Elsewhere, on a rooftop, Ed was laying down looking at the mall with binoculars. He saw Jason, Frank and Isabella.

Ed: Well I'll be damned. They're still alive. Those sons of bitches made it. *gasps* That must mean they got the scoop. I can't wait to get my share of the take!

Ed gets in his helicopter, and takes off to pick them up.

Ed: Alright, boys. You just hang tight. I'm on my way.

Jason POV

We were still standing around the helipad, that's when I heard the sound of a helicopter approaching.

We all turned to see Ed's helicopter approaching.

Frank: Hey.... Hey, HEYYYYY!!! OVER HERE!!!

Frank started hailing the helicopter. That's when I noticed that the helicopter started to sway a bit.

Jason: Frank, what's happening?!

Frank pulled up his camera to use its zoom to see what's going on in the helicopter.

Frank:......

Jason: Frank?!

The helicopter soon flew over us, and out of view. That's when I heard the sound of an explosion. The helicopter crashed.

Jason: Oh no...

3rd Person POV

Jason, Frank and Isabella were completely shocked. Frank fell to his knees, Jason put his hands on his head, and Isabella placed her hands over her mouth.

Jason was staring at where he heard the explosion, that was until he heard the sound of shuffling and groaning behind him. He turned to see some zombies approaching them.

Jason: Oh fuck!

Jason pulled out his pistol, and began shooting zombies in the head.

Jason: Frank, Isabella, we gotta go!

Isabella pulled out a pistol of her own, and began helping Jason kill the zombies.

Jason: Frank, c'mon...! Frank?!

Jason turned to see Frank still on his knees. Isabella saw this as well.

Isabella: Frank?! What's the matter with you?!

Jason ran over to Frank, only for him to collapse.

Jason: Frank?! Goddamnit! Isabella, cover us!

Isabella nods, and continues to kill the approaching zombies. Jason lifted up Frank, and put him over his shoulder.

Jason: (Fuck, you're heavy!)

Jason, with Frank on his shoulder, made his way to Isabella.

Jason: Alright, let's go!

The two ran back into the security room, killing all zombies they came across.

Jason: I thought the military killed all the zombies!

Isabella: They may have cleared out the mall, but the zombies in the town could've come back in.

Jason: You're right.

Jason and Isabella made it to the Paradise Plaza, and Jason found a shopping cart. He put Frank inside the cart, and pushed him the rest of the way to the hideout.

We eventually got Frank to the hideout, and let me just say, basically having to dead lift a 200 pound man is no easy task. But, we were able to get him inside. Isabella and I put him on a carpet. Although, I'm curious as to why he suddenly collapsed.

Jason: What the hell happened to him back on the roof...?

Isabella: Seeing the helicopter crash must've been too much for him. Speaking of, how are you doing?

Jason:... I still can't believe it... Our one ticket out of here just crashed and burned in a very literal sense... How the hell do we get out of here now?

Isabella:....

6 hours later

There was nothing we could do. The helicopter crashed, Frank collapsed, and he's still unconscious. All we could do was just sit in the hideout.

I remember when we first arrived. We thought the zombies in the street were just humans rioting. Now that I think back to it, everything we saw makes sense for your typical zombie behavior. At least when it comes to zombie games and movies.

I'm brought out of my thoughts when Frank suddenly starts convulsing.

Jason: Frank...? Frank!

I ran up to him and called for Isabella's help.

Isabella: He's having a seizure, turn him to his side!

I did as she said, and eventually he stopped moving. I checked to see if he was still breathing. Thankfully he was.

Jason: What the hell was that?!

Isabella: Does he have seizures often?

Jason: No, never.

Isabella:... Hold on...

Isabella went to a bag, and grabbed something. She then came back with a syringe.

Jason: What're you doing?

Isabella: Taking some blood. I have a theory, and I hope to God I'm wrong.

Isabella drew some blood from Frank, and when she was done, she went to some medical equipment.

Jason: What do I do with Frank?

Isabella: For now, just keep him on his side.

Jason: Alright.

And so, I sat next to Frank for an hour. Isabella then stood in front of us.

Isabella: You can lay him in his back.

I laid Frank down on his back and stood up.

Jason: What was the blood sample for?

Isabella:... Suddenly collapsing, followed by seizures. Those are signs of infection...

Jason: Infection...? You don't mean...

Isabella: Testing his blood confirmed it... Frank's infected.

I... I couldn't believe it. How...? How did he get infected? He wasn't bitten. I'm sure he would've said if he was.

Jason: H... How...? He was never bitten.

Isabella: Bites aren't the only way the infection spreads. He could've been stung by one of the infected wasps. Or, maybe he came into contact with some infected blood.

When she said that, I remembered when we fought against Carlito in the Entrance Plaza. Carlito shot a zombie in the head, and the blood splatter on both of us. A little blood got.on my clothes, but I remember seeing some get in Frank's face.

Jason: I think I know how he got infected...

Isabella:...?

Jason: When we fought Carlito in the Entrance Plaza, he blew a zombie's head off, and some blood got on Frank's face. Maybe he got a little in his mouth and just never realized it.

Isabella: Hmmm... That was two days ago. The fact that it took him this long to start showing symptoms of infection, must mean he's more resistant to it.

4 hours later
3rd Person POV

Frank's eyes started to flutter as he regained consciousness. He sat up, only to see the barrel of a gun, and Jason pointing said gun at him.

Jason:... Say something...

Frank:... Something.

Jason: *sighs* Thank God.

Jason put his gun away, and sat down on a box next to the wall.

Frank: I'm sure you'll explain why you had a gun in my face.

Isabella: Because we were sure if you'd wake up alive.

Frank:... What... What do you mean "alive"?

Isabella then sat down in front of Frank.

Isabella: Did you know you collapsed on the roof? After we saw the crash.

Frank: I collapsed...?! No... I... Wait. Does that mean...

Isabella: Yes... You are infected, Frank.

When Frank heard those words, he looked at Jason for confirmation. And Jason reluctantly nodded his head.

Frank:.... Heh....... Hehehehehe.....

In Frank's shock, all he could do was chuckle at his unfortunate situation. The helicopter crashed, leaving them stranded in a zombie infested mall. And now, he's infected with the same virus that turned those people into zombies. In Frank's eyes, the universe is giving him a large middle finger.

Isabella: But, the time between infection and zombification differs greatly from person to person. You're lucky, Frank. You seem to have a very high level of resistance.

Jason: I don't know if I'd call that luck.

Frank: Hehehe, gotta agree with Jason. Because basically what you're saying is, I get to spend longer waiting for the inevitable, is that it? Hehehehe....

Frank, in his frustration, slammed his fist into the floor. Isabella stood up, and turned away from him.

Frank:... You all saw it... The helicopter crashed... No one's coming for us now.... It's over for us... No matter what we do...

The atmosphere in the room could be described in one word. Hopeless. But, for Isabella, it seemed as though there was one thing she could do to help Frank.

Isabella: What if... What if there was a way to impede the infection?

This caught both Frank and Jason's attention.

Isabella: If we could extract and administer a large dose of hormones from the corpus allatum of an adult queen, it would potentially hinder the growth of the larvae in your blood, retarding the zombification process--!

Frank: Hang on a sec! I don't understand a word you just said.

Jason: What exactly are we supposed to do?!

Isabella: I'll need certain supplies to get this to work. And queens. As many as you two can get your hands on.

Jason and Frank looked at each other in slight confusion.

Jason: I mean, it's better than just sitting here waiting to die, right?

Jason then walked up to Frank and held his hand out to him.

Jason: Let's do it.

Frank:... Alright. Sounds like a plan.

Jason helps Frank to his feet, and Isabella starts to type away on Carlito's computer.

Frank: So... This drug that stops the parasite growth... Have you ever made it before, or is it just a theory?

Isabella: When I was working in the medical lab, my brother asked me to research a method of suppressing the parasite. Of course, back then, we didn't extract the hormones directly. We synthesized them in the lab.

Jason: So, he was looking to protect himself from his own terrorist scheme? He wanted a way out, didn't he?

Isabella: I don't know...! I know he didn't bring the drug with him here. I have no idea what he intended to use it for. You think I'm just making excuses, but Carlito kept things from me.

Jason: *sighs* Even if you do manage to make this drug...

Frank: It won't completely cure me, will it?

Isabella: *sighs* I'm afraid not. When the effect wears off, the parasite will develop as it normally would, continuing the zombification process.

Frank: Fat lotta good that does me.

Frank and Isabella looked at each other. He then realized that she's really trying to help him, and despite all his sarcasm, he really does appreciate the help.

Frank: Well... It's the only hope I've got now.

Isabella then took a piece of paper, and wrote down all the supplies she would need, and handed it to Frank.

Isabella: This is everything I'll need to make the drug. I even wrote down possible places where you can find them to save some time.

Frank: I appreciate that.

With that, Frank and Jason took some guns from the hidden armory, and went back into the mall to find what Isabella needed.
