Smoke overpowered all of the scents.
Fires, dirt, dust, blood and gunpowder was buried under the smoke.
Sirens, cries and the quiet.
No one could decide what was more overpowering as the city saw another sunrise after a Joker, Mad Hatter and Scarecrow team up.
Those that were able to see the sunrise only then realized that they had survived the crumbling and destroyed city's latest madness.
Press moved as quickly as any surviving first responders did.
Racing to the front lines, using heir cameras and mikes to capture the horrors of life within Gotham instead showing human decency and offering a helping hand to those who needed it most right now.
Every bat was scattered across the city, tired, sore and hiding their injuries to stand as if they were never born human.
Old friend's and newly gained members all sent out to save the day, all relying on each other and using their trained skills to do what needed to be done.
All were awaiting for the moment of victory, over the acceptable that they had survived and it was over to pass.
Waiting to cling to the last lingering shadows, to disappear and reappear back within the safety and privacy of the cave.
All their trackers moved, most heading towards those with a still working vehicles, buddying up to help one another home.
Agent A already making the needed calls to cancel any of their plans during the day, using the destruction of the city as an excuse.
He broke protocol by not waiting until the cave's secret keeping walls to protect his personal life.
Instead he slipped into the barely standing building, slipping through the rumble and heading towards the red dot that blinked on the map.
Not a trace of a smile on his lips as he reached him, hovering back as he admired the beauty that stood within.
His husband, the most perfect person in the world as he honestly showed his flaws and never claimed to be perfect. He was perfect to him, precious to him.
And he always looked stunning in the sunrise morning light, knowing that he himself glowed better under the moonlight.
They were night and day, creatures of the sky. A sun and A moon, both forms of light and darkness that walked through life together and in sink.
Finally slithering from the cracks and strolling to the man he loves more than life itself. A man he'd never bring back to life again as he loves him enough to respect his wishes and leave him to rest this time around.
His mate, his red chest robin.
They've finally created a stable nest to spend the rest of their lives in.
Not once flinching as guns were soon aimed at him, stepping closer and knowing the guns would slide to either side of him. Fingers ready to pull the trigger and stop any threat from creeping up on him while his back was turned.
His own hands sliding over the cracked and broken helmet, hiding the man who the public had long since known to be dead.
Leaving the press to only see the husbands known as Nightwing and Red Hood marking their territory once more.
A slow but sweet kiss, lips built to only fit perfectly and work smoothly with the other. Years of practice to make them slip at once in harmony.
Nightwing and Red Hood could hold a future in marriage in the public eye.
A better future than what Dick Grayson and Deceased Jason Todd could.
"I love you"
He whispered in a whisper only the other would hear, never removing his hands as he knew enough sunlight was out to catch the attention of those still wondering around the streets below.
Smiling as he felt the guns be slipped into the holsters, a grappling gun being taken out instead as a free hand slid around his waist.
"Time to fly, pretty bird"
Was the whispered response.
Soon enough the wind was whipping past their bodies, limbs clinging to the other as they fell together. Trust and faith in the other holding them up and spreading their wings.
A single grappling hook swaying and swinging them towards the only motorcycle left working between the two of them. One blind and one without wings, working as one to keep themselves up high and above the city limits.
Such trust came from neither willing to let the other fall, that if one faltered and betrayed than they'd both fall to their deaths. Their sins would bleed out together and they'd lay in the afterlife, trapped in death as they had purposely trapped themselves in life.
Within the hour, all the bat's would learn over them breaking protocol.
Within two hours they'd be lectured and scolded by Batman for breaking protocol.
But for now, they were finally flying free as mates.

A/N: I'm really hoping this came out much nicer than I think it did, I feel like it's pretty sucky. I wanted to do something sweet but simple oneshot. I had a single thought but no actual gameplan over this storyplot. Just one of the two breaking protocol by heading towards the one they love instead of going straight to the cave and waiting to meet them there instead like instructed for everyone.
But thinking over a story and actually writing it is two different things.
So, hopefully this isn't terrible.
