I didn't know how long I was in the room Zaynab had put me in. The lack of windows made it hard for me to estimate what the time was. Naturally, I was afraid of the dark. I had always slept with the lights on in my room but I became comfortable with the darkness that now surrounded me that grew ever darker by the hour.
My stomach ached and rumbled. Even though there was food right in front of me I was determined not to eat or take anything from him. I thought about the women who brought it and how their clothes were matching and I concluded they were servants.
As the hours went by I grew more accustomed to the darkness and just as I was about to fall asleep, I heard the keys turn in the door. I began to feel anxious when no one was opening it until he walked in.
The light from the hallway illuminated the room and I could see the black button-up short-sleeved shirt and matching pants. His hands were in his pockets as he walked in and he stood in front of me causing me to sit up and look at him.
He looked down at me crossing his arms when he saw the food still intact.
"You're a hard nut to crack aren't you?"
"I already told you I don't want your food," I said looking away from him.
" Okay, " he said in an understanding tone, "Well, I'm here to show you that I'm not a terrible person."
I looked at him curiously.
"I brought you something else to eat," he said leaning against the wall. " And I promise this time it's clean. "
"What do you mean this time?" I asked him. " Did you put something in this?" I gestured to the food on the floor.
"Just a wee little bit."
I looked at him outraged while glaring at him.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" I asked raising my voice. " What would you be drugging me for this time?"
He shrugged his shoulders and pouted his bottom lips.
" I just thought it would be fun. "
I considered it hopeless to argue with him and just remained silent. When he saw I wasn't saying anything else he went ahead and spoke.
" But like I said, "he said, "I'm not that bad. "
He stuck his head to the hallway and called someone's name then walked back in. A few seconds later a girl in an apron and a crop top and skirt walked in carrying a bowl in her hands. I couldn't make out her face at first because the was a shadow coming from the light in the hallway, but as she got closer I recognised her.
"Natasha?" my mouth hung slightly open as he set the bowl down in front of me.
She didn't respond or look at me but looked at Zaynab and knelt in front of him.
"What the hell is this Zaynab?" I called him out. " What did you do to her? Did you kidnap her too? She's done nothing wrong."
"Oh relax," He silenced me.
He then took a step closer to Natasha and put his finger under the neck of her shirt pulling her onto her feet. My mouth grew wider and hung completely open when his hand moved to the back of her neck and he smacked her lips onto his. His lips moved carelessly against hers while his other hand found its way underneath her skirt and squeezed her already-exposed ass. When he pulled away he didn't spare her a glance but pushed her by her shoulder back to where I was. I was short of words trying to look at her for answers but she avoided eye contact with me.
"Natasha, please taste Sayd's food just to let her know it's safe to eat. "
She nodded and put a spoonful in her mouth.
"See, it's safe to eat," Zaynab said as Natasha swallowed.
I still didn't say anything. What was she doing? Why was she here?
"Now if you'll excuse me, I have some work to do," he said. " Natasha please make sure our guest finishes her food. "
He then walked out of the room, leaving the door slightly open. But that wasn't my main concern. I looked at Natasha again who was now filling another spoon full of food and trying to feed it to me.
"Natasha," I ignored her effort to let me eat, " What on earth is this? What are you doing here?"
Again she didn't look at me but swallowed down her throat.
"Please, just eat, " She said silently.
She tried to feed me again but this time I slapped the spoon away.
" What did he do to you? " my eyebrows furrowed with concern as I spoke. " Is he forcing you?"
She released a breath and for the first time, she made eye contact. I could see a mixture of sadness and anger in her eyes.
"He didn't do anything okay?" she spoke harshly. " I chose to come here. "
What?
"What? Why?"
" Isn't it obvious?" she asked and I could see tears form in her eyes. " I came here to be a queen. To get rightfully belongs to me and what you took."
" I don't understand. "
Before she spoke again she steadied her breath.
"It's my destiny to be a Luna," her voice shook as she spoke. " I found that with Kace and I loved him. Then you came along and took him from me. You were all he could see from the time you walked into those Varsity grounds. "
"Natasha—."
"Just shut up," she raised her voice.
"You took everything from me Sayd. You took my title from me and you took Kace along with it. Now I will make sure I take everything from you. You friends, your title, " she made air quotes," and Kace. "
She was insane, scratch that, she was obsessed.
"That's why you're doing this? To be a Luna? Giving your dignity away to that monster for payback?" I tried to negotiate with her.
"You don't know what you're talking about," she wiped the tears that were streaming from her face. " Zaynab loves me. And he will make me his Luna once this is over. "
My heart broke into a million pieces for her. She was already gone. I wondered if there was anything I could say to her that would make her see what was already in front of her.
"Natasha, please—."
"That's enough ladies," a voice that I so well came to recognise as Zaynab spoke behind us causing us both to startle.
"Natasha, please leave," he said to her and she immediately rose from the floor.
When she went out of the room Zaynab walked towards me and stopped in the center of the room. He looked down at the bowl and noticed the food was still there with some of it on the floor.
"I'm starting to give up on you Sayd," he commented.
"What the hell is wrong with you Zaynab?" I asked him feeling my voice wobble as I got emotional over Natasha. "What the actual hell is wrong with you?"
"I don't know what you're talking about?" he said pretentiously.
" Natasha is innocent," I immediately said. " She never did anything to you. Why are you doing this to her?"
He huffed a laugh and crossed his arms. " She didn't seem so innocent when she orchestrated to have your boyfriend stabbed, or when she tried to seduce him or let me inside the pack. "
She was responsible for all of that? I should have known somehow. She seemed so loyal to her pack at first impression.
"You made her do all that. "
"Oh no my dear, I'm no puppet master, " he defended himself. " Consider her as collateral damage. "
Collateral damage? As he spoke I almost couldn't believe how carefree he was about this. It was as though he had no conscious.
"Have you always been like this?" I asked not realising that I had said it out loud.
"Always like what?"
I cleared my throat before I spoke choosing my words carefully.
"Like this," I gesture at him up and down. " I understand your childhood wasn't the best but you grew up with an amazing sibling and mother—"
"My mother was assassinated and I don't have any siblings," he said blankly.
"I was talking about Aurora and Kace. "
"You'd do well not to comment on things you know nothing about. "
"I— I'm just saying," I continued. " I fail to believe that there's no hint of good in you. When I first met you, you didn't come off as the asshole you are now," he smirked at my insult.
"I apologise for hitting below your expectations."
" I remember when Kace told me about you and his father," I continued. " He mentioned that he looked used to look up to you. He admired how incredibly focused you were and how you reciprocated how much Aurora loved you in a way."
When I said that I noticed he clenched his jaw and his eyebrows dropped.
"I owed Kace nothing, I was not his brother and I was not going to act like it," he said. " He is just like you and Aurora and everyone else. Weak and stainless. Believing every fairytale you hear. No wonder it was so easy to get your attention in the beginning. "
"But—."
"But nothing," he cut me off. " You don't know anything about me or what made me what I am today. So don't act like you give a damn. If this is your attempt for me to show you mercy, " he paused and walked towards me until his shadow was cast down on me. He looked at me with a hard look and spoke slowly. "I show no mercy. "
Goosebumps formed on my skin and my breathing got heavy. He got on his knees and before he could touch me someone came through the door.
"Sir," a man stood at the door sounding agitated and out of breath. "Foreign wolves are attacking at the estate gates. "
Zaynab got up slowly and turned to look at the man. "Get the warriors ready to attack," he said to him then turned back at me. " It seems your rescue party is here. "
