"Little baby little baby sleep tight~", sung Jeon Bora, cradling a small 5 year old boy, her boy, in her arms as she walked along the walls of the beautiful heaven she called home, "And let the moon bring you stars so bright~".
Her boy, the 5 years old Jungkook wrapped his arms around her neck and rested his small head on her shoulder, sleep threatening to take over his small delicate features, but refused to give in before hearing his mother finish his favourite song , the one she always sung to lull him to sleep.
"Baby angel runs to the garden to play, among flowers, birds, dust and clay~", she then pet her son's soft hair, trying to coax him to sleep,"And when mommy calls little angle to eat, the little angle dances, laughs and sings~", she then swings her body softly, still petting her son, feeling his breathing patterns slowly getting deeper and shallower.
But he still spoke, in a small sleepy voice, burying his face deeper in her mother's neck, "I love you mommy."
Bora's laughter jingled like a clutter of bells on a warm spring day, "I love you too my son."
"I love daddy too, tell him that please.", he spoke again, yawning immediately afterwards.
"Why? He isn't even here."
"I don't want him to feel left out.", baby Jungkook replied, partially whimpering, "He gets sad when he feels left out."
Bora giggled again, "Oh my sweet boy, kind as always. I will make sure to tell him that, but for now you should sleep.", she then whispered in her son's ear, "Or else the evil monster will come get you."
Jungkook removed his face from her neck to look her in the eye - scared, sleep still filling his eyes to the brim, "Mommy! Don't scare me!", his red eyes began to tear up as he began to cry loudly, with his hands, balled into small fists, rubbing over his eyes, "I hate monsters!"
Bora smiling out of guilt, got her son in a tight embrace, "Aww I am sorry, I am very sorry, no evil monster will come to get you, see? I am here. As long as mommy and daddy are here, Jungkook is safe.", she tried to console her crying toddler, deeply regretting her words.
"Please don't leave me.", Jungkook cried harder.
"I will never leave you my sweet boy, I will always be with you-" , she then pulled back and kept a gentle finger over his heart, "-In here."
However, Jungkook voiced out a much scarier question, "And what if monsters come to get me when you are not here?"
Bora's face turned immediately fell and henceforth was unable to look her son in the eye, with a sad look in her own. Jungkook awaited his mother for a response, wiping away at his eyes off tears quite aggressive.
"Well-", came the sound of a man from the background. It was Jeon Jaekyung, Jungkook's father, who had come up from behind Bora and wrapped his arms around her waist, resting his head on her shoulder, looking at Jungkook, "If monsters come for you when we are not here-", he then wiped his son's big fat tears resting on his cheeks away with his thumb and hugged both his wife and child all together in a tight embrace, trying to hide Bora's own quiet tears away from Jungkook's sight.
"If monsters truly do come to get our baby Kookie when we are not with him anymore-"
Jungkook looked towards the stables, startled at the sudden greeting, where sat a wrinkly old lady on a lawn chair against the shed, dressed in a old, tough and rugged outfit, which somewhat resembled a long brown cloak, with a big walking stick in her weak delicate hand and a small wise smile on her face. She perfectly blended in with the night if it weren't for her eyes shining like they had seen things a lot more peculiar than one common human could even begin to fathom.
"-then we would send a fairy your way, a Fairy Godmother, the one who would chase all the fears and monsters away."
Jungkook blinked at the old lady, trying to get rid of his blurry vision he had because of crying hard.
"Do they even exist daddy?"
"Hello there.", the old lady repeated her salutations once again, raising her walking stick up as a form of greeting.
"They do boy, Fairy Godmothers exist, and they-"
Jungkook wiped away at his tears and got up dusting off his coat, walking towards the old lady.
"-are magical."
"Hello, how may I help you?", the brunet sniffed his nose and fixed his hair and face, trying to look decent enough to present himself in front of an old lady, who probably wouldn't want to have anything to do with his sob stories, rightfully so for she was a stranger.
Oh little did he know.
"I was a little lost my child, and saw this house and came in without permission, I am sorry.", the old lady's voice was sweet, rough and trembling, as she spoke with a slow laughter, making the wrinkles around her eyes and lips even more prominent, making her look absolutely adorable. Jungkook smiled.
"It's perfectly okay, you don't have to worry about it.", he then got on the ground on one of his knees in front of her, taking her wrinkled hand in her own, "How can I help you grandma?"
The old lady never stopped smiling, as she rest her walking stick against the shed and kept her other hand above Jungkook's, her grip, surprisingly quite firm, "I am a little hungry, can you fancy me a crumb of bread? Or perhaps a cup of milk?", she made the request looking at the brunet directly, her wrinkly face resembling that of a shriveled branch, her eyes shining like a thousand suns.
The brunet immediately got up, "Yes absolutely, I am sure I can find you something.", he then ran inside the house and towards the kitchen, trying to find something which would be sufficient to satisfy the old lady quickly, but sadly enough he found no bread or biscuits in the cabinets, so instead he got a bowl and filled it completely with goat's milk and took it to the old lady.
"I am sorry.", he apologized walking out, "It's nothing much, I couldn't find anything to satisfy your hunger down quickly with and I didn't want you to wait, so please drink this and if you want more, I can cook for you something delicious.", he said bending down, handing her the bowl with generous amount of goat milk.
"It's nothing much? Huh.", the old lady spoke, taking the bowl, "What even is everything? Nothing, what is a bowl of milk? Nothing-", she then looked at the brunet with a mischievous expression, "-but kindness makes it everything."
Jungkook confused at the sudden change in the conduct of the strange old lady saw her devour all the content of the bowl down her throat in one go, practically inhaling the entire thing, with small streaks of milk escaping and running down both corners of her mouth.
Jungkook let out a single laugh as the lady belched loudly, looking completely satisfied with the small offering of food.
"Now that the formality is done.", she spoke, her earlier shivering voice completely straightened out, "I don't mean to hurry you, but you are running out of time Jungkook.", she said, taking her abnormal walking stick back in her hands and then stood up on its support.
Jungkook was shocked, "How do you know my name?"
"Oh you didn't recognize me?", the old lady asked in wonder, proceeding to spread her arms out in an awkward pose and closed her eyes, wearing a confident expression on her face, "I am your hairy dogfather!"
Jungkook blinked, "I am sorry?"
She then bit her tongue, "I mean Fairy Godmother!"
The brunet let out a wonderous laugh, looking the old lady from head to toe, "You are lying."
"And what makes you think so?"
"Because they don't exist?", he smiled, doubtful yet hopeful at the same time, "They are made up for children."
"That's strange for you to think so, didn't your own parents believe in them?"
Jungkook gasped, "You knew my parents?"
"Hmm, we will continue this, but first-", she then waddled towards the brunet like a penguin, "-let me slip into something more comfortable."
Jungkook could only see with wide eyes as the old lady ran down the open lawn and threw her abnormally large stick in circular motion up in the air, a little too high for humanly possible.
And that's when the magic happened.
Silver sparks flew all around like stardust, like an aftermath of the collision of two celestial bodies, circling the old lady's body and the brown walking stick in the air,
which, miraculously, in a blink of an eye has gotten a lot smaller from it's original size, transforming into what looked like a dainty glass wand, covered in beautiful and intricate patterns of white and cyan.
The magic wand, as it was coming down back on earth, released a wave of magic over the old lady, covering her in a blinding white light for a split second, and when all had settled, the wrinkly old woman too had transformed into a beautiful young one, with short curly blonde hair, her rugged cloak had changed into a ridiculously puffy periwinkle gown, full of frills, lace and dangling ribbons, which had a long crown gracing the back of her neck. She caught the wand in her hand gracefully, her skin twinkled like she was bathed in glitter and her eyes shone like they held the entire galaxy to them.
The Fairy Godmother held a expression of major relief on her gorgeous face as she cracked her neck, "Ooh, that's better. Couldn't have handled it a second longer."
Jungkook's mouth just hung open as he couldn't comprehend what the hell on earth had just happened right in front of his eyes.
The young fairy looked towards the brunet with a look of guilt, "Ah, it was a little fast for you wasn't it? Sorry, my transformations happen in a blink of an eye, it's something like a wow factor, except it's not a 'wow' but more like a - 'oh god you scared me' hehe.", she ended with a snicker.
"I-I-"
"Now, where was I?", she said as she made her way past a bewildered Jungkook and towards the mini farm he had made for himself right next to the greenhouse, to grow fresh ingredients on, in order to save money.
"But, how did you?-", the brunet, absolutely mesmerized, simply followed his Fairy Godmother like a lost puppy, "Fairies exist? Magic is real?"
"Honey-", The Fairy turned around with an obvious expression on her face and gestured to her entire body, "-if magic isn't real, how do you explain this, I was as old as a raisin not even an entire moment ago, were I not?"
Jungkook blinked his eyes, "I-I mean-"
"You mean to say I am a con-artist?"
He gasped, "No, when did I ever say that?"
"I was just messing with you love.", she let out a goofy laugh.
"But-", the brunet ran a hand through his hair as he inspected every inch of the fairy's face and gown, which had indeed materialized right in front of his eyes, "-But you were old, you had wrinkles?"
"I know right, easily my least favorite disguise, makes me look like I am literally only a day younger than god. So many people have called me ugly before, I mean, the audacity, the balls-", the Fairy Godmother then suddenly gasped, "Oh my god the Ball! You distracted me! Hurry honey we don't have a lot of time!", she grabbed Jungkook by the arm and dragged him with her abruptly - closer to the growing vegetables.
"Oh wow so many lovely vegetables, did you grow them yourself?", she asked, looking over the mini farm.
"Ah, yes I did. Thank you.", the younger blushed.
"Nice nice nice, but we need something that says 'carriage' "
"Carriage?"
"Do you by any chance grow cantaloupe?"
"I don't even know what that is", Jungkook whispered.
"Bottleguard?"
He shook his head.
"Kumquat?"
"Umm."
"Beef tomato?"
"We do have pumpkins."
"Uhh, alright."
Then both him and the fairy godmother, walked towards the glass paned Greenhouse in the corner of the garden, where he had begun growing pumpkins only a couple of months ago, all the while looking back at the lady, unable to believe his eyes, fearing that if he looks away for too long, she would just dissapear, like a pretty dream too good to be true.
"Don't worry boy, I am not going anywhere, I made a promise.", she said in her high pitched tone of voice, her giant puffy gown bundled up in her hands to avoid getting them dirty by the muddy ground. But before Jungkook could ask what she meant by that, she took the lead and entered the greenhouse first, "I don't usually work with squashes, too seedy and mushy, but always interesting to try something new every once in a while, isn't it? You should try something new too, like squashing your step mother's head with a frying pan full of hot oil."
At that statement, the brunet could only blink his eyes in surprise, as the fairy scanned the entirety of the small greenhouse, inspecting her options and sizes of pumpkins available, till her eyes landed on the largest one, "Oh that one will do. Grab me a garden knife love."
Jungkook did as he was told without question, picking up and stretching out a rusted knife towards her.
"Thank you, now hold this", she said, her eyes indiscriminately on the pumpkin, handing over her magic wand to the younger, who stretched both his shaky hands out to hold the item, and as soon as it came in contact with his skin, the tip of the wand began to sparkle and the entire thing began to slightly tremble.
"Oh my, he likes you, and he doesn't just like anybody let me tell you that, he doesn't even like me.", said the fairy, without looking at Jungkook, too busy in gathering up her gown so she could bend down and cut the stem of the fruit.
"He?", Jungkook asked, eyeing the sparkling wand in his hand which was making him nervous.
"Yes, the wand. It's a 'He', I named him Bubbles, he likes you."
Jungkook smiked awkwardly at the wand, "Nice to meet you Mr. Bubbles, I like you too. You are really pretty.", and with that Mr.Bubbles began to tremble harder and the sparks at the tip became a tad bit brighter.
"He says it's nice to meet you too.", the godmother let out in a troubled voice for straining to be bent down as she finally cut the stem of the large pumpkin and thew the knife away. She then picked up the heavy fruit and swayed towards her right, in order to try and keep it in the center of the greenhouse, "ooh heavy pumpkin.", she exclaimed in a deep voice.
The godmother, threw the pumpkin in the center of the area, unable to handle the heavy weight eventually and broke a small table of utilities and tools nearby, "Oops, sorry", she bit her tongue and took Mr. Bubbles back from the younger, much to his relief.
"Alright this should do, let's do it here.", she huffed.
"Do what here?", Jungkook asked equally confused and lost.
The Fairy turned to him, "Well, turn the pumpkin into carriage!", she exclaimed like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"But how will you-hmmph.", the brunet was in the middle of voicing out his question when the godmother put a finger on his lips, shutting him off.
"Baby, I would have loved to brew a cup of tea and discuss the secrets of the universe with you if we had that kind of time, but unfortunately we don't. Do you want to reach the Royal Ball before it ends or not?"
The brunet, with the fairy's gloved finger still on his lips, quietly yet frantically nodded his head.
"Good, Now step aside and let the magic happen.", She sung the last word in a high pitched opera frequency, cracking her neck and moving around the joints of her arms, as if preparing to do some sort of an athletic sport, "Oh god, it's been so long, it's actually making me quite nervous."
Jungkook, half excited and half curious, sprinted accross the opposite end and sat on a worn out bench with both his hands on his knees, facing the godmother and the pumpkin in front of her. "Do you want me to shut my eyes?", he asked, his cheeks equally as shiny as his eyes.
"That might help."
Jungkook pressed both the palm of his hands to his eyes, before he felt a small tug on his coat, and when he looked down with frowned eyebrows, he saw Gus-Gus and his family of five, climb up on his pants in an effort to sit on his lap.
"Alright then, Bibidi babidi boo!", The godmother exclaimed and swayed Mr. Bubbles once in a brief gesture. A small spark formed at the tip of the wand and moved it way towards the pumpkin, hitting the fruit with no sound. She then, went ahead and sat on the worn out bench right next to Jungkook.
The pumpkin then began to gurgle and shake.
"Huh, something is definitely happening.", said the fairy under her breath, as both her and the brunet stared at the pumpkin with absolute concentration and nervousness - one did so because he was witnessing magic for the first time and didn't want to waste even a second of it, and the other did so because she trusted herself a little too much and knew that there was a heavy chance her magic would either give Jungkook a carriage or cause a literal blast which would kill them all, there was no in between.
The pumpkin, still gurgling and shaking began growing triple to its size at an alarming rate, beginning to fill the empty space in the green house, crushing everything in its wake.
Jungkook and the fairy godmother, wide eyed, pressed their backs to the bench they were sitting on to get as far away from the growing pumpkin as possible, for it had become a little too big and made the space a little too cramped, leaving them no space to move.
"Uh, Godmother? Don't you think-?
"Yes, its bigger than I expected.", said the fairy in a horrified voice, as the pumpkin grew bigger and bigger until they had no room at all and the skin pushed both their bodies and pressed it against the glass panes of the greenhouse.
"I guess there would be an explosion after all!", godmother exclaimed.
The mice were running away between the small spare spaces they could find. Jungkook's cheeks were pressed to the glass panes sideways along with his entire body as the large fruit, which was now gurgling violently, threatened to crush them with its ginormous size - which resembled that of a small cottage, but the funniest thing was, when he turned his face with much trouble, he saw the fairy godmother in the exact same situation as him, all pressed against the glass panes with the poof of her gown above her head, crushing her - which made him snort out of nowhere.
"Boy this is no time to be laughing at your fairy godmother!"
"Is this what you meant you do?", Jungkook asked, still laughing as he slid through the minimal spare space between the pumpkin and the greenhouse panes, to try and escape the gurgling vegetable of death.
(A/N : I am calling the pumpkin a fruit AND a Vegetable because I live in a democratic country.)
"You think this is what I meant to do?", the godmother asked in an high pitched voice, as if the brunet had asked the stupidest question of all, "I don't know about you, but I wasn't in the least trying to die!"
After much handwork and using all the muscles in their body, trying to crawl their way through the chaos like a pair of oversized earthworms, Jungkook and the godmother were successfully able to cramp out of the greenhouse through the gate, and then ran to the other end of the garden with all their might, as the pumpkin got large enough to push at the walls of the now, slowly diminishing greenhouse.
"Mice! Run for your lives!", Godmother yelled as she has gathered her entire gown in her hands, trying to run, whereas Jungkook, having a little too much fun of the near death situation, laughed with his head thrown back as he ran faster than the fairy, leaving her behind, (Gus Gus and the mice were safely way ahead of them.)
"Take cover!", she yelled, grabbing Jungkook by the sleeve and hiding behind a giant cart full of hay at the opposite end of the garden in fright.
The pumpkin got too large and the greenhouse exploded, making into what seemed like a golden tornado of magic and glass. The entire building blocks of the once metal structure contorted and collided with one another, revolving around what seemed like a shiny shape of a pumpkin. Wheels formed amidst the eye of the tornado and placed themselves rightfully under the golden structure, supporting it to stand up right. The golden tornado then seemed to have picked up wind as beautiful swirly and flowey patters materialized out of thin air, claiming their place in the now fully formed carriage, acting as decorative handiwork, one which surely seemed like could certainly be formed only by magic.
And there it stood, a golden carriage, fully formed and functional out of a pumpkin Jungkook was about to cook for tomorrow's lunch, on 4 large yet strong wheels with golden silhouettes and a top resembling that of a teapot- cosy, sleek and pointy.
The fairy godmother and the brunet peeked from behind the hay cart to look at the shiny, sparkly golden carriage.
"Phew, one carriage.", the fairy huffed with a 'oh yay we aren't dead even though I bombed half your backyard into oblivion' look on her face.
Jungkook with his cheeks pink and his eyes as happy as they could get, let out with a smile, looking over at the magical vehicle, "You really are my fairy godmother."
"Of course I am, I don't go around transforming pumpkins into carriages for just anybody.", she said, proud of her handiwork, "Now, where are those naughty mice?"
Jungkook turned, "Mice?"
"Well it's not like I am going to be pulling the carriage now is it?", the fairy gave the younger a sassy look before crouching down to look for the mice in question, "Where are you lovely micey mice?", she muttered like a predator looking for their prey, walking around with her back bent over, looking under every hook and crook, until she was quick to find them under the same hay cart they were hiding behind, "There you are!"
Jungkook watched as Gus Gus and his family of five were startled and trying to get away from the lady in the scary periwinkle gown as fast as their little feet could take them, running for their literal miniscule lives.
The fairy smirked, watching them try and run away, "Uh huh, not so easily! Bibidi babidi boo!", she swung her wand like she had done before pointing it's end towards the run away mice.
Their little bodies began to increase in size and density as their fur transitioned from a dark grey color to greyish black, then gray and then to pure white. Not a minute later, their whiskers slowly vanished, their eyes turned smaller and sharper and moved to the side of their head, their small heads turned longer yet larger, their big fluffy ears contracted to a much smaller length and their little feet got longer and stronger until they looked like they could run a mile without stopping. The five mice, which were well mice since long, had turned into beautiful creatures identical to Snow.
"Five white chargers. Their friends would never believe them.", said the godmother, blowing at the tip of the wand which had steam coming out of it while flipping her hair.
Jungkook gasped as he ran a hand along the former mice's long neck, stroking their soft white fur, "Gus Gus how fine you look.", he smiles as he looks over all the 5 horses, unable to believe that these are the same ones he had fed cheese block to just today.
And then he let out a horrified startle, "Aaah!"
"Aaah what!", reciprocated the fairy.
"Their tails!"
"What's wrong with it?!- oh."
All that magic in those beautiful fingers and yet not a braincell in that empty shell she called a skull.
For all those 5 mice turned white horses and there was not a single tail in sight.
"Whoops"
The Godmother immediately whipped up her magic wand over each and every individual butt of the horses, popping out a frizzy, rugged tail as she went, untill the chargers finally looked like complete chargers at least.
"Now, what shall we do about the footmen."
Jungkook giggled, "Footmen?"
"Hmm, who's life should I make hell today - oh! Come here Mr lizard!", exclaimed the fairy godmother as she rapidly charged towards the green lizards which were stuck to the fence railing, unbothered, minding their own business.
"Why are they even called Footmen-", huffed the fairy, while trying to run towards the fence with the younger running right behind her, "-when all men are literally Footmen, you know, since all of them have feet."
"Well if that were true, wouldn't they be called Feetmen?"
"Precisely."
The lizards, to the reaction of being approached by people, jumped off the fence and tried to escape, sprawling between the grass and small vegetation on the land.
"Bibidi babidi boo!"
The lizards, just like the mice and the pumpkin began growing in size while they were still crawling to the ground. With their heads becoming narrower and more human - their skin, not only turned less scaly but also seemed to be covered in a pattern of fabrics like that of a uniform, which was involved, a pair of full length brown pants, a pair of black boots and a two end back split coat over a normal white dress shirt. Their front legs turned into functional hands as their hinges disappeared, turning into straight human legs, as they stood upright, out of their crawling position.
Before long, two lizards turned Footmen stood in front of Jungkook, with one of them stepping forward with an ugly wobble, looking him in the eye with a hundred yard stare of yellow irises, putting a leaf green hat on their head with their yet to change green tail.
Jungkook gave a nervous smile, "Hello Mr. Lizard."
The Lizard turned footman smiled, with his unnatural pointy teeth on full display, taking Jungkook's hands in his own as he let out in a funny voice, "I always wanted to say this but never could-", he then began shaking the younger's hands he held in his own in a double handshake, "-please stop swaying the flies off the compost pit, those are my daily rations.", he said, with his eyebrows coming together, yet the smile never leaving his face.
Jungkook was stunned for an entire 10 second period, "O-okay, I will stop doing so.", he smile awkwardly, not being able to think of any other response.
"Look at you making friends already-Now!", the fairy interrupted their minor conversation with a loud single clap of her hands, "We need a coachman to pull on the reigns!"
"Coachman?"
"Did I say Coachman? I meant the goose!", the fairy, whipped Mr. Bubbles towards an innocent looking goose standing in a corner who had also been following them the entire time without their knowledge, covering the poor creature in a loud and a wild gust of wind, turning his flappy wings into flappy arms, his flappy legs in flappy human feet, and that beautiful feathery body into a chubby human one, wearing a loose rider's outfit.
The goose, due to the strong wave of magic was thrown upward in the sky, who then fell down on a pile of dry leaves, completely turned.
The goose turned human, slowly got off, dusting some of the dry leaves off of himself, and rubbing his ridgy nose, where there was once a marvelous yellow beak, "I can't drive, I am a goose."
"All done!", exclaimed the fairy godmother quickly as she rounded up all the horses and the footmen, (who were trying to lift up the heavy driver on his feet), towards the carriage and out of the front door of the massive property of the Jeon Manor, "Everyone! Get into position! Come on Jungkook let's go you are going to miss the Ball!"
"Fairy Godmother!", yelled Jungkook from behind her, stopping the fairy from exiting the main gate. She looked at the brunet with a hurried expression, "What's wrong?"
"I can't go to the Ball in this."
