the situation around you made no sense, to say you were scared was an under statement.
looking again at the floor to see the picture frame that you were holding not long ago broke with the glass shattered everywhere.
The photo that was once inside laid flatly on the floor in front of you.
you blinked your eyes looking carefully at it, you could make the face of your grandmother in it and two other men standing next to her.
One of them looked so much like the man standing before you.
Holding onto the photo you brought it up close to see that it was indeed the same person.
still dazed you looked at the man that was smiling warmly at you, he seemed to be dressed in an unconventional fashion.
the room felt strange with many things that had little to no knowledge for you.
"where am I? and who are you?" you shakily asked afraid of the answer.
Anxiety was at its utmost highest.
"why are you in the same picture as my grandmother? what just happened ??" you started to panic gathering yourself into a corner only to stumble on a table, which had a pen floating on a paper writing by itself.
"what the..." you looked up again and saw more things that looked awfully unusual.
"allow me to introduce my self. my name is Eleazar Fig I'm a professor here at Hogwarts school of magic." he said as he walked around to sit behind a desk.
"This is all too new to you, and its understandable to be scared, thus if you permit me I can explain everything to you" he looked at your scared form edging slowly away.
Thinking to yourself that somewhat knowing where you were wont hurt. In case you need to make a run for it of course.
you nodded in his direction indicating for him to continue.
"Ah were should I begin, well today is Sunday June 30, 1889. 2 months before the new term begins at Hogwarts, that's when all students return to school to continue their academic education after summer break. Assuming you will take part in that upon your approval.." he said you you got even more confused.
He went on "you will be attending as a fourth year, but worry not we have 2 months to get you into shape, you can learn magic potions and more" he stated.
"are you being serious or are you joking now? how can it be 1889 we are in the year 2023.. and what magic? what potions? is this supposed to be some sort of prank? are you shooting a movie or a video??" you exclaimed in frustration.
"Take me back home this instant!!, you don't know who I'm, my sister will look for me" you pointed at him accusingly.
He looked stunned only to sigh briefly after
"Oh did your grandmother leave you in the dark about this place?" he asked genuinely sounding hurt.
"my grandmother?.. what was she supposed to tell me? why are you in this picture with her? and who is this guy?" you pulled up the photo to his face.
"I see ... I presume she mustn't have informed you, considering your consternation. well first magic is the main source of life in this world, although it may have not existed in your time, it is still inevitably being used here daily" he sighed again and continued.
"your grandmother came from a series of pure blood wizards... ah pure bloods are people born to both magical parents. she met your grandfather who was and is a very powerful rich pureblood. the Vermin family is very well known in the magic world. your dad was born not long after they married, and he met your mother here at Hogwarts." he stated
"wait wait this all too sudden, how did my mom and dad not tell me any of this? did my parents use magic? if so why are we living in the future? considering everything you are telling me is in this past life" you crossed your arms in frustration.
"yes I'm getting there, it must be weird hearing about your parents past from a stranger, but everything I'm telling you is the truth. ill explain in details. your mother came from a pure bloodline as well, thus her family disapproved her marrying your father. since his father is minister to the ministry of magic. So your grandmother who was a very powerful witch, opened a gap in time using ancient magic. In which She had come to occur by her bloodline. pushing your mom and dad into the future where magic was long forgotten by people, and those who used it were very select few. Or so I'm assuming considering your perplexity on the matter" he stated.
you eyed his suspiciously then asked again
"Then how come they didn't remember?" you couldn't help but be doubtful as things started to get more complicated.
"your grandmother left with them, leaving your grandfather behind to keep her son safe, she casted the obliviate spell on both your parents" he explained
"a spell? what does it do?"
he took his wand and showed it to you
"once you use your wand to cast the obliviate spell it will erase memories. And that's how your mother and father completely forgot everything and anything to do with magic." he smiled sadly remembering the events
"how do you know all of this?" you wanted more answers, and you wanted more information about all of this magic nonsense that he was spewing.
For all you know this man could be mad. but something about him made you feel trust worthy of his words. and you couldn't quite understand why.
"Your grandmother told me of her plans before leaving, we were friends in school at one time and I helped her with her ancient magic, she made sure someone knew of her plans in case her son or 'grandkids' I assume now came here from the future. thus I thought someone would show up long before, but here you are at last....how did you come here?"
He was the one asking questions now. Looking rather confused, as to how someone who never heard of magic was able to open a gap in time, that was only possible with the mastering of ancient magic. And that was formidable on its own.
"I was lost in a forest near my grandmother's cottage, then I stumbled upon a hut that was lit up. the last thing I remember is that I proceeded to pick up the picture frame which sat on the fireplace, when suddenly a green light engulfed me."
you shook your head inwardly, as you remembered the fall you had afterwards, it had hurt and made you feel nauseous
"Ah she must have enchanted the picture frame with ancient magic, but how is that possible? she had used her two attempts already and now the frame is broken.." he stopped looking at the broken glass and the wood that had shattered across the floor.
Shuffling around he pointed his wand at it.
"repairo" he must have casted something with his wand hoping to fix it but nothing happened.
" I assumed as much... ancient magic cant be fixed by a spell" he stated looking from the glass to you.
"what do you mean her two attempts? "you asked curiosity driving you up the walls.
"your grandmother mastered ancient magic. She harnessed its powers after training her body and soul on it, but opening a gap into the future was no easy feast she could only do it twice, and she knew that there was no way she can open it a third time. As if it was a given by the nature of the magic it self. You came here not because you opened the gap but because she enchanted the picture frame with magic but she must not had been strong enough to open the gap herself"
he explained more about her as you took in all these new information. Not processing the possibility of things that seemed fictional to be real.
You could remember yourself reading books about magic and fiction. but to experience it first hand in real life was bewildering to you. .
"Taiaineta you posses your grandmother's ancient magic but you need to hone it in order for you to use it." he said as he walked closer to you.
"hone it?" you asked tilting your head.
From the books rearranging it self on the shelf to the pens scribbling on papers by themselves, you found it hard to believe this man was lying anymore. And if you were being honest this place enchanted you.
"what will happen to my sister? she will be worried sick about me!" you exclaimed to professor fig.
"She will be fine, as far as I remember your grandmother said that people in that time wont remember you were gone until you go back, and it will seem as if you were there the whole time"
you nodded "interesting"
he seemed on edge wanting to ask more questions
"how is your grandmother? and your parents?" a feeling of sadness washed over your face and he couldn't help, watching you attempt to stop yourself from tearing up.
"they passed away" you stated in a whisper but he managed to hear it. for his smile faltered and was replaced by a frown.
knowing not to dig too much into it, he refrained from asking any more questions.. for the time being that is.
shaking his head he headed towards you
"I think this is a good time for you to meet your grandfather" he smiled as he walked back to the fireplace once more.
"my grandfather?" ... he was alive? you wondered how did he look like, and if he was as powerful you were told seconds ago.
The minister of magic ... what does that even mean.
"Hold this floo powder in your hand and stand there".
he pointed to the inside of the fireplace, a déjà vu feeling coursed through you as you looked at it in panic
"don't tell me... I have to use this to travel?" you shook your head
"haha yes for the time being until you learn how to fly with a broom" he smiled.
'a broom? what the hell have I gotten my self into, I should have stayed with Ella at the mansion instead of asking for an adventure.
I think I bit more than I can chew.' you solemnly thought to yourself. as you took the powder in your hand and stood inside.
"Now say ministry of magic, and then you will fast travel there. I will be right after you." he stated as he showed you.
nodding your head you said the words and let the powder fall on the ground, green light surrounded your body again making you float into the air and this time you managed to land normally on your feet.
looking around, you saw many people in suits and coats walking with briefcases and papers all over the place. soon after the fireplace behind you lit up and professor fig emerged from it.
" I see you learned how to use the floo flames" he smiled signaling for you to move forward nodding as you walked along him between the many busy people heading to work.
Going into different offices and floors.
" where are we exactly? and how is that broom cleaning the floor by itself?" you trailed off as you gawked at all the wonderous things around you
"As you will get to learn, almost everything is enchanted with magic. It makes life so much easier " he stated as a matter of a fact smiling to himself.
Not long after, you reached an elevator that looked small and outdated hopping on it with him.
"I suggest you hold on" he pressed a button to the top floor and grabbed the handle, you were confused but followed suit.
Suddenly the elevator shook so violently moving vastly fast and treacherously.
for a second it felt as you were thrown into a roller coaster without a seat built on. Finally reaching the top floor you let out a breath that you were barley holding.
"Is there any normal means of transportation in this magical world? something that wont cause as much panic as this" you exasperated.
Fig just chuckled walking along the corridor to a big golden door.
Reaching to a desk with a lady that had many papers floating, and newspapers shredding it self on top of a trash can.
"wow" you whispered.
"how can I help you?" she asked looking up briefly from her paperwork.
"I'm here to meet the minter of magic, tell him Eleazar Fig has someone special he needs to meet, and no I don't have an appointment but this is very important Hogwarts business" he said as if he knew what she was going to ask him.
she raised her eyebrow at him before getting up and walking to the gold door, she went inside momentarily and came back rather shortly after
"you can go ahead" she stated as she went back to her desk.
"Alas we are here" he said looking in the direction of the door
"minister to the ministry of magic office" you read the sign that was on the door.
"is this where my grandfather is?" you were nervous, meeting such a close family member that you only heard stories about from your grandmother and father.
As far as you knew he was a fearless, strong, smart rich man.
"Yes.. are you ready?" he asked before knocking on the door. Nodding again you sighed
"yeah.." you trailed off as you saw his hand come in contact with the door knocking on it firmly.
"come in" a strong voice came from the inside.
Fig opened the door with you following right behind him.
The man in front of you looked like an older version of the man that was in the picture with your grandmother and professor fig.
'that must have been him..' you thought to yourself as you saw him stand up and come to meet you
"Fig my dear friend, its been a while since we last saw each other"
he greeted warmly as he and Fig exchanged a handshake, he then looked from him to you his eyes slightly widening and examining you closely.
"who is the young lady Fig?" he asked as he towered over your form taking in your similar appearance to one of his son.
To say you had a striking resemblance to him was slight in comparison.
He took notes to the colors of your blue eyes to the dark black hair that hugged your face. it seemed oddly familiar all too well.
Fig smiled as he clasped his hands together "this here is your granddaughter, her name is Taiaineta Vermin"
your grandfathers eyes widened in shock mouth open agape as he was taking in this baffling information. He looked back to Fig who nodded in return.
"She arrived today, she is just as confused as you are if I may say so myself" he chuckled at the similarities you both had as you stared at each other.
"Hi" you softly said feeling nervous "My name is Taiaineta but you can call me Taia, I guess I'm your granddaughter my father is Larson Vermin" you spoke as you curtsied slightly in a lady like manner similarly to how your mom had taught you.
"Ill be damned.. " the man spoke again as he had a very fond smile on his face.
After all this time he met someone from his long gone family that he missed so dearly, and it was non other than the daughter of his only son.
"I'm Alexander Vermin, but you can call my grandfather" he said as he engulfed you in a bear like hug.
"you look so much like your grandmother, but you have your fathers blue eyes" you were taken aback by the sudden hug, that you didn't know how to react.
He must have felt it because not long after he let go of you.
"Sorry I didn't mean to startle you, but I just cant believe I have a granddaughter as big and beautiful as you"
he had a solemn look in his eyes as if he was remembering his long lost family.
"Where is Larson and your mother? what about my wife? did they come with you?" he asked looking very hopeful that he had a chance to meet them again, after everything he still missed them dearly and was more than excited to see them.
The man in front of you seemed gentle and caring he didn't emit any mean or serious tone with you, contrary to his looks and title.
He was warm and loving just as your father used to describe him, he had spoiled him rotten after all.
Not knowing how to reveal to your optimistic grandfather the bad news, you shifted in your spot fixing your gaze on the floor scared to meet his eyes.
After all you were about to tell him something shocking, especially for someone who had already lost their family once.
You didn't know if his heart could handle it.
"I ... I came alone by a picture frame my grandmother had enchanted on her property. My mother and father ... they passed away in a car crash two years ago. And my grandmother passed away four years ago, she was sick. I was left in the care of my sister Ella" you sadly told him the information he probably never expected.
You could feel the room grow quite as he stumbled upon himself and professor Fig helped steady him.
"I'm sorry" you felt the tears brimming at your eyes, no one wanted to hear that their whole family was almost completely gone, and to hear it from your granddaughter must have felt even worse.
To lose so many people at such young age, must have been mortifying. It took him a few minutes to regain his composure.
"It's not your fault Taia, I just I never would have expected this revelation.... they passed away huh" he said almost trying to console both of you at the same time.
This was tough, getting tossed into a whole new world and time. Meeting your new family member and having to remember such dreadful memories, was taking a toll on your state of mind, it was contrasting to your usual quite life.
"Your sister Ella? how old is she?" he questioned trying to process all of these information.
"she is twenty sevens years old, a very successful business woman. She took after my father, and managed to run his company after he passed away." you said feeling proud and homesick at the same time.
"Ahh she sounds wonderful, at least I have two granddaughters, and I got to meet one before its too late" he smiled sadly at you as he beckoned for you to come closer to him, he patted your head gently, and then ruffled your hair.
A gesture you father used to do all the time when you were feeling down. It felt somewhat familiar yet different, you giggled as you thought how he must have gotten the habit from your grandfather
"My dad used to do this" you said looking up at him, he had a dumbfounded expression as you informed him
"Really?! he used to hate it when I messed up his hair. I cant believe he did it to his own daughter.. that brat" he reminisced chuckling softly at the memory. you smiled at the way he described your dad.
"well then, now that introductions are out of the way I reckon this is a good time to see how things will move forward from here on out." Professor Fig said as he walked closer to the both of you.
"Ah yes she should come live with me at my mansion, and as for school... " you grandfather trailed off as he looked at you
"would you like to attend Hogwarts just like your parents?" he asked gently, you fiddled with your hands not knowing how to answer.
"I would love to but I don't know how to use magic" you stated sadly looking upset at your disadvantages in this world.
He was confused for a second before professor Fig interrupted.
"Nonsense, you have two months before the new school year starts. It's plenty of time to learn about magic, and if you are anything like your grandmother it should be just as effortless" professor Fig said confidently as he crossed his arm nodding his head in assurance.
you chuckled at his answer and replied rather fast.
"I would love to attend Hogwarts then"
Your grandfather was smiling gleefully as he felt proud witnessing hints of his wife in you.
"That settles it , I hope you are ready to work hard because I will make certain you learn everything there is to know about magic. I will be your mentor and guide as you navigate your new life" you smiled again nodding your head in affirmation.
