"Oh, well, Sylvie and I think that Arthur is confessing his love for your daughter right now." I shook my head as Veer spoke, Arthur still had our mental link blocked.
"Are you serious?" The Queen and King both said, and Veer nodded his head. The Queen went on. "It is about damn time."
"I think I'll be taking my leave." Elbereth bowed once again. "I'll hopefully be seeing you in Zestier, General Virion." She left the stage, leaving the four of us there. The other side of the stage stood the King and Queen of Sapin with some other people.
"I wonder how that is going." Veer smiled. "We don't know for sure though, they could be talking about something else alone." I doubted that, why would Arthur cut his mental link from me.
"Everyone!" Elder Virion's voice echoed through the crowd, silencing them within seconds. "It is time to show the retainers." He waved his arms to the side, and soldiers began to walk out holding a wagon of some sorts, and on them, was the Retainer's bodies that we killed. "Here, lays the three Retainers that were killed in battle during the battle in Ashber."
The people below began to chatter, Veer didn't say anything, but the King of the Elven Kingdom did. "I've seen these bodies before, but seeing them again, like this, is still quite scary. I know how strong they must be, so the fact that Veer and Arthur took them down, is amazing." Aya and I helped as well, but they have a point, we didn't really do that much. "Please, come up on the stage, and take a closer look at the enemy we are up against."
"Sylvie, let's get off the stage, I don't want to speak with anyone I don't have to." Veer told me, taking my arm. "King, Queen Eralith, we will be taking our leave, I rather be away from people as they examined the bodies."
"That is fine, Virion, we will talk to you later." Queen Eralith said, and Veer took my arm, and guided me off the stage before the people could come up and stare at the bodies now present on the stage for all to see. Retainer Erie's body was in the middle, in between Jagrette's and Lyra's.
"Let's go find a table to relax at." Veer suggested to me. "I rather be alone for a while, I don't feel like dealing with nobles, I'm afraid what I might say to them." Our arms intertwined once again, and he guided me to a table where no one was at.
"That works for me." I said, I knew this wasn't a date or anything, but for some reason, I felt something, I don't know what, but being with Veer like this felt good. "I don't think you should drink anymore."
A waiter walked by, and Veer grabbed another drink. "One more won't hurt." He said, taking a giant gulp from it, then placing it on the table before us. "You know, this is the first time I have ever tried any sort of alcohol."
"I bet." I answered him, watching his eyes kind of swirl a little. "Come here." I got closer to him, making sure he didn't fall over. "A Lance of Dicathen should not fall over during this event, so just lean on me."
"Okay." Veer said, leaning over slightly on to me, I held him up straight. "I am just having some fun tonight; I don't remember the last time I did this."
"It's fine." I assured him, knowing he has been stressed lately. "I'll be watching over you, nothing bad will happen." I felt him giggle slightly on my shoulder, so I asked him something. "What is so funny?"
"Nothing." He said, then went on. "I think it's funny how you say you'll be watching over me tonight." I shook my head, still holding him up. That is when I felt my mental link to Arthur come back to me.
'Arthur?' I asked him through our mental link.
'I am here.' He responded. 'I had to do something privately, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to leave you in the dark.'
'It is fine, but what happened?' I asked, hoping he would speak about what he said to Tessia.
'I did it.' He said, then went on. 'I told Tessia how I felt, knowing what Veer told me, I couldn't stand by and hold what I felt any longer. She and I are, we are a, we are a couple.' He stuttered slightly, but he managed to speak up and tell me what happened. He finally admitted to her how he felt, that is absolutely amazing.
I could feel the joy spreading through my body, and I began to speak to him. 'That is amazing, what now?' I asked him, curious about how he was feeling right now at this very moment.
'Obviously, I feel extremely happy right now, but we agreed in private that we will keep it private for a little, not wanting to make a big deal out of it during the war, but I did tell her I wanted to start a family with her.' Arthur said, and I giggled out loud slightly.
"Are you talking to Arthur?" Veer asked me, and leaned forward onto the table, looking at me, no longer leaning on my shoulder. "I can tell you are, so don't lie, what did he say to Tess? Did he confess? Was he a big pussy? I need to know."
"He confessed." I assured him. "They are heading back this way." He nodded his head like he already knew that, and I spoke again. "It seems like they are now a couple."
"Wow, I guess this changes a lot." Veer began to think about the future I think, but I stopped him, nudging him slightly. "Oh yeah, you don't want me thinking about the future right now, fine, I'll just not think about what this means for all of us." He said sarcastically. "Actually, this may not change anything, the next major event is the wall, and that is where he confesses to her, so it is not that far off."
"It kind of is." I told him. "I'm just happy for them though, it took Arthur too long to acknowledge how he felt toward her." I've known for a while that Arthur loved, or liked Tessia, I didn't know for sure.
"I know you did." Veer said, and that was when Arthur and Tessia both walked back into the room, they had smiles on their faces, and their cheeks were red. "I hope I have something like that one day."
"Really?" I asked him, I would have never thought he would say something like that to me right here.
"Of course." He said with a smile. "Why wouldn't I, those two are obviously in love, and that is something I have never felt before, Sylvie, in my last life, and this one. I want something like that, doesn't everybody?"
"I guess you are right." I told the drunk Veer.
"Heh." He smirked at me, leaning on to my shoulder even more as we stood at the table alone. "Imagine if we got together, Sylvie, maybe you and I are meant to be together." I could feel my face get redder as he said this. "Look! You are blushing!"
"Stop!" I shook my head as he spoke. "Don't say things like that!" He started to giggle, and this made me laugh as well. "Haha."
"General Virion." A man said with a stern voice as he walked over to our table, standing across from Veer. "It is nice to meet you, I am Trodius Flamesworth, I am the captain in charge of the wall." I could feel a dark energy come off of Veer, and I grabbed his hand. "What you have accomplished is amazing." The energy coming off of Veer disappeared before anyone could sense it.
I didn't know why that just happened, but I could sense that he didn't like this guy for some reason. "So, you are Trodius Flamesworth, I guess that makes sense, you seem and look like a noble." Veer nodded his head. "But I wish I could say it is nice to meet you."
"General? Did I do something to anger you?" He asked Veer, and I tightened my hand, trying to get him to say something nice, and not something that would anger this man, even if Veer could kill him.
I looked into Veer's eyes as he looked down at me, taking his head off of my shoulder, and he sighed slowly. "No, you didn't, Captain Flamesworth, I'm just a little angry at this time, not at you, but at certain things. I haven't seen the wall yet, but since their forces haven't broken through yet, I have to imagine you are doing a good job."
"Thank you, I appreciate that." The man stared at Veer as the two of us held hands together. "I can't believe you defeated those Retainers up there, mind explaining to me how you did that?" Trodius eyed Veer up, and the only thing I could think of was, Veer, don't kill him.
"I'm sorry, but I rather not explain the process of how I killed someone." Veer took a sip from his drink and finished it. "Just know, that I may be young, but I am the strongest mage in Dicathen."
"That is what I've heard." Trodius said, not breaking eye contact with the tipsy Veer. "But please, explain to me how you defeat the Retainers, I would love to know how I could prepare for such a powerful foe."
"You can't." Veer told him seriously. "You are too weak to handle them, even if one showed up at the wall, you would be blown to pieces in seconds, so there is no need to explain to you how powerful they are." That may be true, but as Veer spoke, I could tell the people nearby were starting to look at him.
'Arthur, I would come over and get Veer, I think this Trodius person is making him angry, like he knows something about him.' I told him as the two exchanged looks.
'Trodius Flamesworth?'
'Yes.'
'That is the person who gets our father killed, that is why, Veer told me that story last week.' Arthur paused, his concern leaking over to me. 'Get him away from him, I'm scared that he might do something that he shouldn't."
'Okay.' I responed.
"General, are you saying that you think the wall couldn't handle a Retainer alone?" Trodius asked Veer.
"That is exactly what I am saying, Captain." Veer responded.
"Tch. What would you know? You may be strong, but you are a child in the eyes of war." I could feel the anger building up inside of Veer, so I tightened my grip, and began to pull him away.
"I think we will be taking out leave." I spoke up, trying to get out of the conversation so nothing happened. "Please forgive us." I pulled Veer away from the table before anything could happen.
'I think he has had enough.' Arthur told me. 'Get him to his room, and put him to sleep, Sylv.'
'Okay.' I responded, pulling Veer through the crowd, people giving us head nods and smiles as I did. "Veer, we are going to your room, you are done partying tonight."
"Noooo." Veer said slowly, stopping in his tracks as we got closer to the door. "I don't want to go; I am having fun." He said, but I dragged him out of the room, and into the hallway where there were six guards. "Hey!" Veer said to them. "This girl here is trying to seduce me, help!"
"Stop!" I released his hand and slapped him on the arm. "Don't say that! Jeez, Veer, come on." I grabbed his hand. "Follow me." I pulled him by the guards and into a hallway where there was nobody present.
"You don't have to be so rude." Veer said softly, like he was sad. "I was only joking." We stood side by side, I held his hand, and the two of us stared at one another. I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not, it was hard while he was drunk, but then again, it was hard when he acted normal.
"Shut up, Veer, let's go, I know you were joking, no need to get sad." We started to walk again, heading towards his room. "You are going to wash up, then get into bed, okay? I'll wait outside and make sure nothing happens."
"I don't need a babysitter." Veer said as he leaned on me as we walked through the hall. "But thanks, this means a lot."
"No problem." I told him, then added. "But please don't say that I tried to seduce you again to anyone, it makes me look bad."
"Hahaha." Veer laughed. "They knew it was a joke."
"I don't think they did." We turned the corner, and made it to the hallway where his room was in. "Let's get you to bed as soon as possible; you are going to have a rough morning." He had a decent amount to drink tonight, I think it was the only way he could handle the nobles.
He toppled to the side away from me, and it took me grabbing his arm to make sure he didn't fall into the wall. "Oh my god, you saved my life!" Veer exclaimed, staring at me with his brown eyes. "That was awesome!"
"I only prevented you from falling into the wall." It made me laugh a little, hearing him speak like this. "Get in your room." I told him, opening the door for him so he could walk in. "I'll sit on the couch as you wash up, and make sure you don't hurt yourself before you go to bed."
He separated from me and made his way to the bathroom. "Don't try to take a peek while I am in there, Sylv, I'll be watching." He walked into the room, and I just shook my head.
"I won't!" I shouted, not knowing if that registered in his head.
