Day 2 "Buongiorno Napoli, è il 21 gennaio e la temperatura è... (Good morning Naples, it is the 21st January and the temperature is...)"
I slammed my hand down on the alarm clock and groaned, rolling over to see a very peaceful Lizzie, still asleep on my chest. The duvet was bunched up around our waists and our clothes from last night was scattered around the floor. I ran my hand up and down her spine and placed a kiss on her head before rolling her over so I could make us coffee. She hummed as she rolled over and cuddled a pillow with a smile. I planted another kiss on her head before walking into the kitchen area of our hotel room. I threw on a sports bra and shorts before trying to figure out the coffee machine.
Don't get me wrong, I can speak Italian, but this coffee machine looked like a fucking robot. There were so many buttons. I clicked the iPad-looking screen a few times and three options came up. I selected the espresso option and made myself an iced latte and I made Lizzie her black coffee.
I heard movement and saw Lizzie standing at the kitchen door smiling at me. She had on my linen t-shirt from last night, three of the middle buttons done up.
"Good morning my love, I made you a coffee," I said with a smile, kissing her head.
"Thank you baby," she replied softly, taking a sip and humming.
I followed her out onto the balcony where our wine glasses were left from last night next to an empty bottle of red wine.
"So, what is the plan for today?" I asked as we both sat sipping our drinks and looking out at the view.
It was cloudy today but still very warm. Warm enough that we probably needed to wear sun cream.
"We have a boat trip in about two hours, we're having brunch and a tour around the coast and then the boat is going to stop at the Amalfi coast," she replied, moving to put her legs across my lap.
"Nice. You did good Liz," I said with a smirk.
She nodded her head, "I try."
"I'm actually very happy we are going to the Amalfi coast because- um- so Dad wanted some of his ashes sprinkled in the ocean there," I said quietly, holding the necklace I had around my neck that held a small portion of Dad.
"That'll be really lovely," she said with a reassuring smile, reaching out to hold my hand, "is there anything else you wanted to do while we are there?"
"I think I'm going to get a tattoo," I spoke.
Lizzie nodded and smiled, "what are you thinking of getting?"
"Maybe a lemon, it's the fruit of Amalfi and as it's going to be Dad's final resting place, it seems fitting."
Lizzie smiled and squeezed my hand lovingly as she finished her drink, "that's lovely."
We finished our drinks and went back to our bedroom to get ready for the day. Lizzie took off the bedsheets and put them in the bath for the cleaners to change after our 'activities' last night.
I pulled out one of my bikinis and one of Lizzie's to wear under our clothes in case we decided to go swimming. Mine was a plain white bikini with strings and hers was blue with small lemon details on the top and the bottoms. I finished getting ready way before Lizzie. I don't know what she's doing- we are going to be on a boat not walking a runway. But anyway, I started getting our things together for the day so we could go down to breakfast as soon as she was ready.
"Y/N baby, have you seen my sandals?" she shouted from the bedroom.
"They're out here," I replied, putting some bottles of water in my tote bag.
"What about my sunglasses?" she shouted again.
"Bedside table," I replied with a smile.
She came running out of the room in a flowy black dress, her bikini straps showing with her black Dr Martin sandals and black ray bands resting on her head.
"Ready?" I asked with a smile.
She looked around and patted her body, "mhm yeah I think so, have you got water?"
"In the bag," I replied.
"Sun cream?"
"In the bag," I repeated.
"Okay fab, thank you darling," she spoke, standing up to kiss my lips softly.
We had a small breakfast at the buffet downstairs as we knew we would be having brunch on the boat a few hours later. Lizzie in full mother mode grabbed three rolls of bread, wrapped them in tissue and shoved them in her bag. I gave her a look and shook my head laughing.
"You never know," she said smugly.
"When I might need three bread rolls? You're right," I said with a smirk.
"You'll be thanking me when you're hungry later," she said, grabbing my hand to lead us out of the hotel's dining area.
I laughed and started our walk towards the docks.
"Do you want to play a game?" she asked as we walked.
"Yeah, go on," I replied.
"Okay, I'll point at someone, and you tell me their story."
I nodded my head, "Seems easy enough."
"That guy over there feeding the pigeons," she said, pointing at the guy sitting on a bench outside of a church, feeding the birds from his hands.
"He used to be a teacher, probably history or geography but then he retired. He still lives in the city because it's what he is sued to. He never had kids or got married so every day at the same time he comes and sits outside the church to feed his birds," I spoke with a smile.
"I like that story," she replied, "okay chose a person for me."
I looked around us and clocked a couple walking in front of us, "them," I said pointing.
Lizzie thought for a moment, "they are high school sweethearts, he is an actor, and she teaches kids to dance. They are struggling to pay rent because their jobs don't pay very well but love their small flat. Both are Italian and they want kids in the near future," she spoke.
I nodded, "how do you assume they are struggling with money?"
"Look at his shoes. They're hand embroidered and very worn in, they're old which suggests he has had them for a while."
"Alright Detective Olsen," I laughed, "pick another one for me."
"Her," she said, pointing to a child around 10 years old playing hopscotch on the pavement.
"She is waiting for the bus with her mother, they have just been visiting her Grandad who is in that hospice there," I said pointing at the building next to the girl, "she doesn't know it but he is dying so her mum took her to see him one last time."
"Fucking hell Y/N that's morbid," she laughed.
We played back and forth until we reached the boat docks where our boat was already waiting. Lizzie showed the captain her booking and we took our seats on the top floor of the old-fashioned looking boat. It had a large rubber ring strapped to the front with a light blue exterior paint.
"Buongiorno ragazze, posso offrirvi qualcosa da bere? (Good morning ladies, can I get you two anything to drink)," the waiter asked, looking at me.
"Smoothie?" I asked Lizzie to which she smiled and nodded, "possiamo avere due dei tuoi frullati ai frutti di bosco, per favore? (Can we get two of your berry smoothies please)," I said to him.
He nodded his head with a smile before walking off towards the small kitchen downstairs. Lizzie let out a big relaxing sigh before leaning her body against mine to watch the waves as the boat's engine hit them.
"Do you want to have dinner in tonight?" she asked, playing with my fingers.I hummed, "yeah we can do as we're having brunch now," I replied, kissing her head.
The waiter came back with our smoothies as well as the menus for brunch which he would come back to take the order for in a few minutes.
"Have you taken your meds yet?" I asked Lizzie as she scanned the menu.
She shook her head, "I'll take them when we get back."
"Can you take them now please?" I asked, handing her the box.
"You bought them with?" she replied, taking them from my hands.
"I know you won't take them if I don't remind you Liz."
She nodded her head and popped one in her mouth, "thank you," she said sheepishly, passing the box back over.
"You don't need to be ashamed baby, it's okay," I said, squeezing her knee.
She gave me a sad smile and a nod, swallowing the pill with her smoothie, "do you know what you want to eat?"
"Mhm I think I'm going to go with the berry compote," I said, folding the menu again.
She nodded, "I think I'm going to have the avocado toast," she mumbled.
I squeezed her knee again so she would look at me, "I can see the gears in your head turning, it's okay baby, please don't worry," I reassured her.
"Yeah it's stupid sorry," she said quickly, closing the menu.
"Lizzie it's not-"
"Cosa posso portarti da mangiare? (What can I get you to eat)," we were interrupted.
"Io prendo la composta di frutti di bosco e la mia ragazza il toast all'avocado, per favore (I'll have the berry compote and my girlfriend will have the avocado toast please)," I replied with a smile, handing him the menus.
Lizzie leaned her head on her hand, looking out onto the waves."Lizzie it's not stupid, okay?" I reassured her, "...look at me baby."
She turned to look at me, her eye's glassy.
"It's okay Liz. Don't let it ruin your day please," I spoke.
She nodded and puckered her lips; I leaned forward and kissed her softly.
"I love you," I whispered, pulling her into a hug.
"I love you too," she replied in the hug.
We pulled away and refocused our attention on the ocean.
"Oh my god is that a Dolphin," she exclaimed, sitting up.
I looked over the edge of the boat and sure enough, there were three Dolphins swimming next to the boat, jumping up every so often. Lizzie reached into my bag and pulled out her camera to get a few pictures before turning the camera around to get a dodgy selfie of us on the boat.
"Vuoi che faccia una foto a te e tua moglie? (Would you like me to take a picture of you and your wife)," asked one of the passengers, an older gentleman who appeared to be with his partner.
I nodded my head and smiled, passing him the camera, "sarebbe fantastico, grazie (that would be great, thank you)."
He snapped a few pictures. One of me and Lizzie smiling at the camera, one of us smiling at each other and one of us kissing each other, Lizzie's hand on the top of her hat that she had stolen from me.
"Grazie (Thank you)," I said to the old man with a sweet smile.
He nodded his head, reciprocating the smile before joining his partner back in his seat. Lizzie leaned herself back against me, kissing my hand before playing with my fingers again.
"Isn't it funny that these fingers have literally been inside me," she said, way too loud.
I laughed and put my hand over her mouth telling her to be quiet, she laughed as well. We both sat at the moment giggling at each other like a couple of teenagers in love. That is exactly what it feels like to love Lizzie, like teenage giddiness, full of excitement and first times.
I pulled out my phone and uploaded some photos on my Instagram and captioned them, tagging Lizzie in. Purley to show off my relationship and my love.
