Jane 'El' Hopper was scared of who she was. Not only did she have crazy powers, but she didn't know if she was straight. She'd had her eye on Mike Wheeler for a long time, but also Max Mayfield, a girl. El thought Max was beautiful, and didn't know why. She figured out it was because she was bi. Whenever she saw Max she would admire her flaming, beautiful red hair and her- as El turned, she was met with the one face she didn't want to see - Mike Wheeler.
Mike was a jock, he played basketball and went to all the parties. El was a cheerleader, so she saw him a lot. Max was called weird at school, and had barely any friends. El knew if she wanted to stay popular she'd be better off with Mike. But she didn't know if that was what she wanted.
As Mike looked at her, she felt slightly uncomfortable. She just wanted to know who she loved.
"Hi," Mike said.
"Hi."
El could feel the tension around them, the almost silent hallway making it worse. She knew she had to get to class soon or she'd be late, but before she could go anywhere, Mike leaned down and kissed her.
