Same day... UA High School
Exam Entrance
Today was the day. A step closer for you to become a hero. Those thoughts settled in when you started walking into the high school of your dreams, UA. You were just as nervous as you were excited. "How can I accomplish such a dream?" You thought to yourself, admiring the school building as you smiled. "By taking the first step... That's how."
You then looked to your right, and spotted Midoriya walking to the school too. You were proud of him for finally getting to UA and take the exam. Just as you thought that, you saw him tripping on his own footing, and before you got there, you saw that he was... floating? It seems a girl with short brown hair and pink cheeks caught him with her quirk before falling.
You sighed in relief to see Midoriya not making a bad impression on the first day, as you kept walking to the exam. On the way, you felt someone bumping your shoulder hard that almost sent you stumbling clumsily.
"Well look who's here, Mrs. Quirkless." The familiar boy turned to glare at you. Katsuki Bakugo.
"Oh, so good to see you too, Mr. Ego-much!" You insulted back.
"Whatever. Just watch where you're going next time, four-eyes."
"You bumped into me...On purpose."
"Tsk. What even makes you think you can pass this exam without a quirk? You should just back down now before you get hurt. Or I'll make sure you understand."
"Is that a threat?"
"Hmph. However you take it as, I don't care. Just get ready for me to crush you in this exam, along with Deku."
And with that, he walks away from you. All you did was roll your eyes, you weren't gonna let Bakugo ruin this moment for you. In fact, you're gonna show him that you're strong enough to do this. "You can't stop me..." you mumbled to yourself again, continuing to enter.
In the exam orientation...
You found a spot for you to sit while listening to the presentation. To your left was Midoriya, who also sat next to Bakugo, while to your right, was a tall student with blue hair and glasses. You got out your small notepad and started to take notes of any details you could make out from the teacher giving the orientation, whose name is Present Mic. He was really loud, but also talks fast, so you did some rapid writting for the mock battle coming up.
"As it says in the application requirements, you listeners will be conducting a 10 minute mock urban battles after this!" Present Mic starts to explain. "You can bring whatever you want with you. After the presentation, you'll head to your specified battle centers, ok? OK!"
You looked at the exam ticket infront of you that said "Center C."
"I see...they're splitting us up so that we can't work with any of our friends" Bakugo seemed surprisingly calm saying that. "Yeah, you're right. Even though our examinee numbers are consecutive, we're assigned to different centers." Midoriya concluded before Bakugo shouted something at him again while you ignored and stared at your card.
"So we're splitting up then?" Izuku frowned at you and you nod, "I got center B. And you?"
"Center C." You said.
"Alright then! 3 different types of faux villains stationed in each battle center!" You took quick notes at the presentation as Present Mic explains. At the same time, you felt the blue haired boy's eyes on you as he gazes you writting so fast that your hand started to hurt before looking back at the presentation.
To put it simple, you wrote some specifications:
Villain 1= 1 point and are commonly found
Villain 2= 2 points also commonly found
Villain 3= 3 points again, also alot of them
Villain 4= 0 points since there's only one of them
"...The hero Napoleon Bonaparte once said: 'A true hero is someone who overcomes life's misfortunes. 'GO BEYOND! PLUS ULTRA!!!" Present Mic finished with motivated words that got your blood pumped and a beaming smile on your face.
"Now everyone! Good luck suffering! He finishes as you got into your gym clothes. You wore a black sweater and leggings, your F/C shirt, and some white running shoes. Once you were done changing, you saw Izuku nervous again. He turned to see you, and you gave a wink and thumbs up.
And with that you entered your center.
At Battle Center C...
"Seems like everyone's taking this mock battle test seriously," you thought as you looked at everyone getting ready, "I'll give this test my all too... I just hope I can find anything useful to defend myself. If I don't, I have my legs to run... Or I'm dead." Present Mic already started the countdown for the 10 minute battle, you got to your
running position. "ON YOUR MARK... GET SET... GOOO!!!"
Everyone shot into a run and so did you. You were quicker than some of the others there, so maybe finding some of those villains won't be so hard... Right?
You stop in your trail, spotting 2 robots/villains infront. Your legs froze for a second when one lifts its arm to hit you. "Move move MOVE!!!" You exclaimed inside your head, jumping away from the robot. Instinctively, you flipped up top of the robot, making the other one target you and hit the robot you stood on instead of you. "*exhales* I got my first few points...! I did it!" You cheered and panted, grabbing one of the robot's broken arm piece and ran to find more. Minutes past so quickly while you improvised a fighting style, from using the same tactic as earlier to bash the broken part hard at the villains, to the replace the parts with another robot part.
"Ok... That's already 46 points in the bag. I have a chance."
You kept track of your score, still running as fast you could. Strangely enough, you didn't feel pain in your legs with excessive running. Perhaps it was all that training you did 10 months ago? Or the adrenaline? Either way, nothing is stopping you... Until...
BOOM!!
A huge villain appears infront of everyone in the center. Now you understood why villain 4 is worth no points, "IT'S WAS BIG ENOUGH TO CRUSH ANYONE!" You thought in fear. Everyone started to run away, and before you ran, you spotted a pink girl trapped in rubble with the robot close to them. Without thinking, your legs moved on their own, and you got to where she was before the huge villain could. Using your strength alone, you lifted the rubble trapping the girl. "GO! NOW!" You hollered as she freed herself from underneath.
You dropped the heavy object and stared up the villain, freezing in place. How will you get out of there was the question that worried you.
Before you could make out what happened, the big robot was frozen and incased in ice. You dropped your arms and opened your eyes to find that you weren't harmed.
"What?"
"3... 2... 1...! TIME'S UP!" Present Mic's voice signaled everyone that the test was over. "Thank God," You felt fatigued by adrenaline, but you still manage to earn some points on the field.
Now... It was time to wait for the results.
1 week later...
You were uneasy for the past few days, and you weren't getting enough sleep or eaten more than usual. Pacing around the same area to wait for the result of the test made your dad a little anxious of your behavior.
"F/N, sweetheart, calm down. We don't know how long it'll take for the results to come." He starts.
"But... Papa..." you sighed desperately, "What if I failed the exam? I mean, the written exam was pretty easy cause I studied with Midoriya, but that mock battle test?! I'm so worried that if they'll see me without a quirk, a-a-and decide to not give me a chance to be a hero quirkless, AND I KNOW I'M OVEREXAGGERATING BUT I CAN'T CONTROL THIS HEART-CLENCHING FEELING THAT I POSSIBLY BLEW THAT TEST!!!"
After getting that off your chest, you tossed a blanket over your head as you curled up on the couch. Your legs tucked in holding your arms as your head rests in them.
Your dad lifts up the blanket to see you so nervous, "Whether you failed or not, just know that I'm proud of you for trying your best out there." He smiles and holds your chin up, then bumps your shoulder.
"C'mon! Where's my confident little girl who wanted to be a hero in the first place?"
"This is more nerve-wracking than I thought" your voice muffled from your position, suddenly perking up to hear the doorbell ring.
"OH MY GOSH IT'S HERE!"
Your dad answered the door and then closed it, now with an envelope on his hands. He passed it on to you before you sat down again to read it. Your hands couldn't stop shaking from what will be inside this letter. You looked at your father, who nods and smiles while holding one of your amrs in his.
You opened the envelope to find a hologram of All Might now infront of both of you.
"All Might? But this is from UA." You thought.
He explained how he'll be a new faculty member at UA High School, which got you so excited but also nervous. Then, he explain your actions in the exam, telling you he was proud of you, for not having a quirk. Along with the 46 points you made, you earned an additional 60 points for rescuing the girl from the villain. Apparently, rescue points were a thing, buuuut Present Mic kept it a secret or else it would be too easy for everyone else there.
Hearing those results and summing up your points...
You passed!
Both you and your father gasped as you felt... well, every emotion in your body while you jumped, screamed, cried, and laughed. Your father picks you up and spins you triumphant before making you float with his telekinesis quirk with all the excitement.
"THAT'S MY BABY GIRL!!" He happily exclaims as you float.
"WOAH! PAPA! HAHAHA! I'M GONNA HIT THE CEILING!"
You laughed before you both calm and you float back down, now embracing your father tightly.
"I did it... I'm going to UA. I'm gonna be a hero!" You cried, and so did he. After you moved to Japan, your dad was so worried that you wouldn't had the chance to change your life. But now, you WERE changing your life.
"Well, get some sleep. We don't wanna be late tomorrow." He smiles and you nod running to your room, now fast asleep.
The next day....
It was finally the first day at UA. You were so excited to be in the school of your dreams. You were a bit nervous to head inside though, you know that some of the students probably heard that there's a quirkless girl that got in. Referring to you. As you walked the halls, everyone stared at you and whispers roared with every step you took, until you reached your class, 1-A.
You took a deep breath and grab the handle of the door.
"Ok.. You can do this. Just leave a good impression on day 1, you'll be fine." You told yourself, but now you hesitate to open the door. "OH~ WHAT AM I SAYING? I CAN'T DO THIS!"
"Oh, hello!" A girl with short brown hair and pink cheeks walks up to you smiling, and it looks like she's heading to the same class room too. You tried your best to not seem as nervous as you are now. "Oh. Hi. Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you too, I'm Ochako Uraraka."
"I'm F/N L/N. So, are you of class 1-A too?"
"Yup! Just got here to head straight to class until I saw you here too."
"I... was just getting over my nerves to actually get inside."
"No worries! We'll go together. I'm actually a bit nervous too."
"Well, let's head in."
When Uraraka opened the door... The room. Was. PACKED. With so many students getting to know each other, while you stand next to Uraraka.
One of the girls suddenly got your attention... and the attention of the other girls in the room. "Hey! That's her! The girl without a quirk who saved me!"
All the girls started to crowd around you and ask questions really fast.
"Is it true that you don't have a quirk at all?"
"Where are you from? You don't seem to be from Musutafu."
"How did you crush so many villains with just one broken robot arm?"
You started to get overwhelmed by so many questions.
"I-I... I'll answer all of your questions later, give me time to think it all-"
"Excuse me! Can't you see that she is overwhelmed?!" A male voice rang to your ear. The blue hair boy with glasses you sat next to at the presentation. "At least give her some space to breathe in, let alone find her desk at the short time she has!"
"Ugh. Iida, stop being a killjoy." The purple haired girl said, you looked at your watch to check the time.
"We only got 8 minutes before class starts. I have no rush."
"*sigh* Alright. Just don't take too long." He walks off as some of the girls sighed.
"Sorry about that.. He's like that sometimes." No one's mouth moved, so you assumed it was the one with the invisibility quirk.
"O-oh, no worries. I'll head over to my desk now. Maybe we can... hang out a bit later?"
"Ooh yes! I would love that!" The pink girl that you saved the day of the exam energetically told you smiling.
As you walk to a spot, you noticed a familiar face in one of the desk in the room, the one that Iida was scolding for...something, earlier before you came in.
"What a surprise." You sarcastically thought, "Katsuki Bakugo. Also know as Mr. Over-the-top-ego." The bad nickname made you want to hide your laugh when you had to pass him. While you looked at Bakugo, you also saw another familiar face. Izuku Midoriya. He saw you and with the biggest smile that ever grazed his face, he waved at you. Probably happy to see you passed the exam. You were also happy he passed, even if he got saved by those rescue points.
Bakugo took an advantage to do something he always does to you on the first days of school. He places his leg out from his desk as you were distracted, and tripped.
"Woa-WOAHH!!" Someone then grasp your arm before you fell face first to the floor. He was half way sitting on his desk to reach you and keeping his legs steady to get a grip on your descending form.
"Are you ok?" He asked you.
"Yeah yeah. I'm ok..." you lift yourself up and fixed your glasses, "Just a little clumpsy there..."
You suddenly stop to look at the one who caught you. You gasp as you realized the familiar figure.
Your mind thought back to when you we're about to be taken by someone, until a boy with half white and half red hair saved you.
"Hey, it's you." You gasped, "From 10 months ago. You remember me, don't you? You saved me from a drunk man who wanted to kidnap me and then heal my wrist."
"You're F/N L/N, are you not?. The name was going around, and I had a feeling it was you." He replies.
"So, introductions aren't needed for me?" You shyly said, "You never told me your name."
He just stared at you emotionless before telling you his name.
"Shoto Todoroki." He answers.
"Oh. Well then, Todoroki, thanks again for what happened 10 months ago... and right now. Maybe.. I can return the favor somehow."
"No need. I just-"
"Alright everyone... Settle down." Another voice was heard, you quickly realized you needed a desk. You looked at the empty one next to Todoroki.
"Hey, is this spot occupied?"
"No. Go ahead." He responds, you sat down and put your bag down.
You saw someone at the door dressed all black and wore a scarf, his eyes looked so tired. "Who's that?" You whispered to Todoroki.
"I don't know." He honestly said.
You couldn't make out the words until he said he was your homeroom teacher.
"I'm Shota Aizawa, your teacher."
"Our teacher?!" Everyone in the room exclaimed.
"Oh boy, this is off to a great start" you nervously mumbled, worrying if you should back out now.
"Right. Let's get to it." He said, holding out a gym uniform, "Put these on and meet me outside."
Each student got their uniforms from the lockers, and go to the changing room. You wore the uniform with the same shoes you had for the exam and you put your hair up in a ponytail. (if you have short hair, leave it down)
Everyone was now in outside with the teacher. He starts explaining a bit on what you'll all do.
"An assessment test?" In the UA field, stood class 1-A, the class you're on, while Aizawa explained the test more thoroughly to all tue students. Everyone will be partaking in a physical exam, only this time everyone can use there quirks. Whoever comes last will get an immediate expulsion.
You were so nervous nearly to the point of shaking. "Oh great. Everyone IS going to best me. I don't have a quirk to give me an advantage." You thought to yourself.
"The rules to this exam will apply to everyone, even if you don't have a quirk." Aizawa clarified in general while everybody's eyes were on you now. Izuku looked worried, but you just nodded trying to hide your fear. You could hear Bakugo laughing already, but you ignored as you think.
"I just have to remember my training, and put it to practice."
"Let's not waste anymore time. Begin." Aizawa blowed the whistle to start
First up was the 50-meter dash. It was Iida versus Asui, the frog girl, first, then it was Uraraka against the dude with the tail, then it was Midoriya versus Bakugo, then it was you against Todoroki.
"Don't disappoint me." He whispered to you before getting in position.
"GO!"
You tried to run as fast as you could, you weren't expecting to catch up with him after seeing he used his ice. Regardless, you still did your best
"7.02 seconds!" The robot said after Todoroki past the finish line.
"9.16 seconds!" That was your record time when you finished, after heaving for air. The mix of adrenaline and speed did a number on you.
"Not bad..." Todoroki whispered, you still felt embarrassed about our score.
Next, grip strength. Izuku seemed to be struggling when you both finished that part of the test.
"How much?" You asked him.
"56 kg," He responds, "You?"
"63 kg..." You said, scratching your head, then you whispered in his ear. "Moving an extra 600 pounds on a fridge 10 months ago actually helped a bit."
"You mean 560."
"YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!"
And then after doing... decent on the standing long jump, repeated side steps, and other tests, it was time for the ball throw. Everyone used their quirks to get records over 100 meters. Now, you were worried. You can't fail this.
Uraraka took the turn to toss the ball, you all watched carefully. If she has a zero-gravity quirk, that would mean...
"INFINITY?!" The students gasps, Uraraka giggling.
"Uraraka, that was so cool." You congratulate her.
"Aww, it was nothing." She bashfully said.
"L/N..." Aizawa calls, "You're up."
You gulped and stepped forward. Taking in every courage you could, you threw the ball as hard as you could... but it wasn't even enough to best any score.
"71 meters!" The robot said, now you had your head down in defeat.
Aizawa was quiet staring at you. Your heart beated so fast that you thought it was about to come out from the mouth. At the same time, you remember your mother's words. "SHE'S USELESS!" "QUIRKLESS!"
"...Back in line." Aizawa just said after that dead silence, and you obeyed.
You were in the very back so that you no one would see you so embarrassed. Just with your mother's words getting to your head, and the constant attempt to complete these tests right, you felt defeated and frustrated.
"Hey." Todoroki puts a hand on your shoulder, and you gasp.
"Todoroki..."
"You tried your best. That's what matters." He said letting you go now.
"Yeah..." you sighed.
End of the exam....
Everyone looked at the chart Aizawa showed. Your name was the 2nd to last one on the board. The last name you saw was Midoriya's. You both heavily gulped.
"This is it." You thought to yourself, before Aizawa spoke.
"And I was lying. No one's going home."
"HUH?!?!" You along with a couple of students gasp.
"That was just a rational deception to make sure you give it your all in the test." You wanted to faint when you heard that, but at least you didn't get expelled. "Right. Class dismissed."
You were behind the group after everyone left, when Aizawa grabs your arm with his scarf.
"?!" You gasp as you turned to him.
"You're lucky I lied to all about the expulsion. You could've been out already..." He starts, "Becoming a hero is nearly impossible for someone quirkless like you. You don't belong here, and yet you're here standing. One day, I hope you can accept the fact that not all are created equal. I'll grade you like any other students, without playing favorites. If you know what's good for you, I suggest you back down when you feel like you're not up to it."
You just stared at him. You expected as much for students, or a teacher, to say that to you, but you were so focus on your goal that it made you look so stubborn. "...We'll see about that." You respond, as he lets you go. "You're dismissed..."
You kept walking, still a bit terrified of this teacher. If no one believes that you can be a hero, it looks like it's you against the world.
Outside of the classroom...
You were on your way to the station, but not as enthused as before, you still thought on Aizawa's words, along with what everyone else told you in the past, even your mother years ago. $But that changed," you thought, "I'm not the same as I was before. I'll show them that I CAN be a hero."
Thankfully you finished your thoughts when you bump in to someone. It was Midoriya, with Iida and Uraraka.
"Oh, F/N-san!" He happily exclaims.
"Ah, sorry. Lost in thought there that I forgot to watch where I'm going." You apologized.
"It's ok."
"You're that girl who doesn't have a quirk, correct?" Iida asks you, Midoriya's expression was almost one of panic, knowing how you would take the compliment. You realize tha you forgot that you didn't introduce yourself properly.
"Oh yes. I must've gotten to excited for today that I forgot to introduce myself to you. I'm F/N L/N. I moved here years ago from S/N. It's nice to meet you... Properly this time, heheh."
"S/N? That's in America, right? COOL!" Uraraka smiles.
"Such modesty... Unlike the rest of the students who makes fun of me!" Iida mumbled, impressed by your sudden change in a formal tone. "I am Tenya Iida, and I have to say, I'm impressed you were able to pass that entrance exam. No one without could've passed so easily. How did you do it?"
"I just... Used a defensive instincts and just... did what I could do to pass."
"I see..."
"Well, in any case, should we get going?"
"Oh ok" Midoriya said as you all made your way to the cafeteria.
*Time skip* In the classroom...
"I. AM. HERE!!" A familiar voice brought a smile to your face. "Coming through the door like a hero!"
"All Might is our teacher too?!" You happily whispered, "Ooh~ this is gonna be cool."
"Now, this is most important class in UA High. You can think of it as heroing 101. Here, you will learn the basics of being a pro, and what it means to fight in the name of good. Let's ge into it! Today's lesson will pull no punches!"
"Real combat?" You mumbled as All Might explains. You haven't really thought about how to combat people with quirks... unless if there's still robot arms around, then you thought you're a goner.
"But one of the keys to being a hero is... Looking good!" He handed bags to everyone with your new hero costume you customized. You were so happy right now and excited to take part of this class. "This is gonna be so cool!"
