~*You are the thread that knots my heart*~ QueenofDarkness

Cloud gently placed Faith's body on her bed and retreated his hands. However, she sat straight and placed her bare feet on the floor. The assassin knelt before the girl and stared at her with his hands pressed on the mattress on either side of her legs. Faith did not meet his gaze, her hands lay entwined in her lap and hair curtained her face. It was the first time Cloud took note of every inch of her face, every line of her creamy skin, her glossy hair that cascaded down her shoulders like a waterfall, her lashes that almost brushed her skin when she blinked.

Cloud reached forward to push her locks behind her left ear and rubbed his thumb under her ear. He watched as she shivered and a tear trickled down her eye. Cloud cupped Faith's face in hands and wiped the tear with his finger. "Don't weep." He murmured, craving she would look up at him. Silence unfurled it's wings in the dark room, and the curtains swayed as a gentle breeze danced around the room.

"Do you think that a being like me deserves your tears?" Here Faith looked at him. Cloud swallowed at the agony that blazed in her sinless eyes. Why did his fate allowed an ingenuous girl like her to pair with someone like him, a ferocious devil?

"Saya said no one deserved my tears." Faith sniffed.

"For once in her life she is correct." He vocalized, then collected her hair and pushed it over her right shoulder.

"I do not like this." She heaved a groan.

"I know." Cloud knew she meant both the obstacles in their life and the vile sensation of the alcohol. "Faith, do you trust me like you said you do?" the assassin inquired in a serene voice.

She gave a nod, lost in his enthralling eyes. "It is an oath that everything will be back to normal. You need to have faith in me." Cloud placed his hand on her cheek and Faith leaned in his touch and closed her eyes.

Promptly, she opened her eyes and frowned. "I_I feel much better now. I mean back at the beach and five minutes ago the alcohol was too vigorous for me to think clearly. But, I feel fine now." Cloud tilted his head at her rambling and gave a small smile.

Faith gasped and he nodded.

"You_How did you do this?" She interrogated, aware that the alcohol still existed in her system.

"You desire to know?" Cloud inquired and watched as she attempted to open her heavy eyes.

"No." Faith shook her head violently, in doing so strands of her hair brushed her cheek.

"You should rest." Cloud made to stand up, but halted when her cold fingers encased around his wrist.

"Don't go," she lifted her head to gaze at him, demoralized. "Do not desert me and go to her." Cloud frowned at her words.

"Faith I..." the fiance stopped when a sob racked her body. "Shh, I am here. I will not abandon you." He then leaned down, inched closer and placed his warm lips on her forehead.

"You pledged the same before. Y_you don't know what you do to me." Faith eclipsed her face with her palms. "It's like, it's like you are the thread that knots my ribs," she unveiled her face to look at the imp, the monster she was unconditionally in love with. "Whenever you abondon me, the thread perishes and I bleed internally, Cloud. It's so, so hard." She hiccuped as her bottom lip wobbled.

The assassin peered at Faith nonplussed. Oh dear Lord! How can she love him so much? How can she love a man who desired to manipulate her? How on earth could she love him to an extent that breathing was hard for her?

His heart thudded rapidly when he heard the fast beats of her naive heart. Cloud swathe her form in his arms and hissed when Faith pressed her cheek in the crook of his neck. The world dimmed around him and he discerned that he was not the yarn, it was she, she was the thread that knot him together. When and how he fell so ardently in love with this woman was truly beyond him.

Cloud pulled away, wiped her tears and slid the cardigan off her shoulder then repeated the action with her other shoulder. He rested his hands on her shoulders and gently pushed her back on the bed, then covered her form with the sheets, aware how her innocent eyes observed his every action.

He then toed off his shoes and sat on the bed, alongside Faith, his woman. The assassin did not perceive what he was committing, Cloud leaned against the bed board and brought Faith's form closer to his body. The fiance stiffened when Faith rested her head on his chest and hugged him tightly.

"I want to apprise you so many things." He heard her whisper against his shirt, her voice hoarse. The feel of her delicate form pressed against his felt exotic. A man who only saw blood and craved for revenge, a man who terminated for the sake of supremacy, this feeling was preternatural to him.

"What is it that you wish to inform me?" Subconsciously he tightened his fingers on her shoulder and peered down at Faith from the light of the moon that peeked in the room.

Faith exhaled. "I am so tired."

Cloud wanted to know but knew he could not impel her. "You should sleep, Faith." He then brought his other hand to embrace her.

"Promise me you will not leave me." Faith mumbled and Cloud knew she was almost asleep.

"I will never be so ruthless enough to commit such an act." He vowed in a grave voice. The Ghost vowed to the wind that was a beholder, to the moon that gleamed enhancing her beauty, to the stars the twinkled, to the night that opened it's arms for him.

Few minutes ticked by, Cloud listened to Faith's breathing and believed his fiance was asleep, but then."It is so hard to accept it, Cloud." Faith curled her fingers on the fabric of his shirt.

"You know it is the truth, Faith." He verbalized in a dulcet voice, listening as her heart beats descend gradually.

She did not respond and took a deep breath, then looked up with her chin on his chest and permitted her teary eyes to clash with his mysterious ones. Faith peered at him with incalculable sentiments noticeable in her eyes, witnessing that Cloud's fist clenched.

Cloud observed as she blinked then moved her hand up to tangle her fingers in his hair. Her touch was gentle and timid, she then caressed her thumb under his eyes and lastly placed her soft, small palm on his cheek. His breath hitched in throat, the assassin rotated his head a little and kissed the inside of her palm. "I never believed that my heart would leave me."

The Fury frowned at her words, he took hold of her hand and rested it on his heart that thumped inside his chest as if unchained from it's veins.

"You know," a tear trickled down her cheek and soaked Cloud's shirt, the wetness clawed at his senses and his insides constricted tortuously. "Every time you are around my heart beats exceedingly fast. When we met for the first time," a forlorn smile spread on her lips. "I was thunder-struck when my heartbeats sprinted against time, but then," she looked at him, in his soul, the damned soul that resided with devils. "You were there, in front of me, you shook my hand and it lulled down, as if your skin was it's lullaby."

"I am aware, il mio fede," he declared in a hushed tone and ran his finger on her tear. "Your heart was the reason I departed from my room. It were the sinless heartbeats that lured me to them."

Faith eyebrows knitted. "I do not comprehend."

Cloud chuckled silently and stroked her hair. "Faith, I can hear your heartbeats. I have been ever since we met. I do not have the knowledge as to why I can only hear your heartbeats when I can choose who's heart I desire to hear. Your heart on the other hand," he tightened his fingers on her shoulder. "It trespasses some forbidden boundaries."

"Am I ill?" She blinked up at him.

Cloud laughed, it was a muddled, irked laugh. "No, nothing is wrong with you. You are perfectly well. It is I, who is not normal."

Faith sniffed, "You are a bit peculiar." She nodded.

"You have eventually agreed."

They remained in each others embrace for a prolong while, Faith's tear commenced to dry and the monster's heart pacified. "Why do you hear heartbeats? How is that feasible?" Faith shifted a little.

"I have powers, Faith. Powers that allow me to unbolt some forbidden doors. However, I am unaware why my senses reach to your heart." He whispered.

"Does it have something to do with the..." She trailed off unable to complete.

Cloud sighed and gave a nod she did not wish to utter the word 'Assassins'. Once again they plunged into the ocean of quietude. Cloud knew he would butcher anyone who hurt his Faith. Indeed, the woman in his arms was someone he wished to exploit in order to grasp the throne. However, now if his foes proceeded he would give them the most barbaric death the eyes of beholders have ever witnessed!

"Promise me Cloud," Faith implored her voice barely audible. She lifted her gaze up at him yet once again. "Promise me, that you will protect my heart for it has deserted me for you."

A silent hiss escaped the assassin's lips at her confession. "How can I mistreat your heart when my soul is in your hands, Faith?" He vocalized earnestly.

Faith squinted her eyes when tears swam in them. Cloud shook his head at her, she closed her eyes then opened them and rested her head on his chest and exhaled in contentment. After a while the assassin's mind soothed that's when he picked the sound of a door creak open and footsteps make their way to Faith's room. Cloud untangled his body from hers, immensely heedful and evaporated only to stand in the shadows and wait. Mr. Baron opened the door, watched his beloved daughter for few seconds then shut the door behind him and walked away.

Cloud remained there in the darkness for a long, long while, staring at Faith, his Faith. She appeared exceptionally endearing in her slumber. Cloud ambled towards the bed in slow steps, eyes fixed on the women who was fast asleep. He bend low, his face mere inches away from her, inscrutable eyes on Faith. The man stroked her cheek with his fingers then placed a kiss just an inch away from her lips. Cloud pulled back, stared at her for another minute then stepped away, the assassin was out of the room in a trice and drove away from the woman he was deliriously in love with.

Cloud drove back to his house, however instead of parking in the round driveway he drove ahead and stopped in front of the guest house. The Ghost waited in the car for Alexander to arrive for they had matters to converse about. The night was bitter and wind harsh, nothing could be heard other than the crickets that chripped and the soft hum of the engine.

After a while, Cloud stepped out of his vehicle and proceeded to the door of the opulent guesthouse. He was knackered both mentally and physically and desired for the night to end. When inside, he switched on the lights and made his way upstairs towards the open glass room and threw himself on a settee. Cloud interlaced his fingers behind his head and stared at the sky. Indeed, he had his men surround Faith's house and keep guard, but there was a trepidation in his heart that caused him to flinch whenever he pondered of Holako. He knew his men would apprise him the instant they catch a whiff of that bastard.

But what if he was late? What if he could not shield Faith?

A deep growl sounded from his lips, he closed his eyes and shut the door of his jutsu not at all rapt in sensing lurking peril. Suddenly, a soft smile lingered on his face and the corner of his closed eyes wrinkled when he thought of his woman. How she had confessed her feelings to him yet once again and how he indirectly utter his hearts syllables to her.

"Are you certain you wish to do that, Alexander?" Cloud murmured eyes closed.

He heard an irked huff then opened his eyes too see a blade just inches away from his throat. "I knew you bolted your jutsu, then how on earth did you know I was here?" the Asian assassin sheathed the blade and sat on the armchair facing Cloud.

"I was not using my jutsu Alex, but that does not mean I had stuffed cottons in my ears." The Fury opened his eyes fully.

"Well no one can catch you off guard, that is for sure." Alex rolled his shoulders. "Why aren't the lights turned on?"

"You can do that if you desire to."

"I will wait until Wade arrives." Alexander smirked. "Anyways, care to inform us why have you assembled us here tonight?"

"Maynor."

"What about him?" Alexander interrogated.

"He is the ground why I have summoned you both here. Wade will call Maynor now and inform him that he_he loves Faith passionately. And day after tomorrow at evening once the sun curtains itself behind mountains and greets the beauty of the moon this shall commence." Cloud pronounced in a sombre tone.

"Do you think the three of us can see through this one?" Alex voiced his thoughts.

"No," Cloud shook his head in denial. "I will unveil everything to father and ask him to join us. Maynor will take her away with him and once we locate Maynor we will ambush and get Faith out of there. She will be unscathed, Wade will be present with her all the time while we slaughter our enemies." He elucidated.

"Awesome plan brother. I hope they make a movie out of it." Wade's voice reached their ears as he sauntered in the glass room and collapsed on a armchair. "But why day after tomorrow? That is too early."

Cloud gave a nod. "Call Maynor now and apprise him what exactly I told you." Wade sighed and Cloud grinned at his brother in sheer mockery. Wade pursed his lips and took out his cellphone from his jeans pocket.

"His number?" Alexander inquired and pushed his glasses over the bridge of his nose.

"Maynor did the mistake of calling father once. I memorized his number in case there was a need for it." Wade dialed the number and clicked speaker for them to hear.

The temperature in the room dropped to a dangerous level. Cloud sat up, leaned forward and placed his chin on his fist. Memories of his last encounter with Maynor flashed before his eyes and his grit his teeth in wrath.

After a few rings Maynor's voice was heard. "Hello." At this a frown appeared between Cloud's eyebrows.

Cloud noticed the transformation in Wade's demure as a smile materialized on his lips. "Dear cousin," he begin. "This is your favorite cousin, Wade."

Silence was what stalked them for a second then Maynor's laugh echoed in the glass room. "Have you called to threaten me little cousin, that I wounded your brother and desired to annihilate him?"

"Far from that. It regards something you and I yearn to posses." Wade verbalized his voice composed, grave.

"I want you and your family dead and I hardly believe that is what you wish for, Wade Jayden." Maynor hissed.

Wade smirked. "Believe me cousin that wish of yours is even known to angels. However, I bring something else, something you crave to posses." Wade presented mirroring Cloud's actions, his tone, his nasty games.

"What might that be, little cousin?" Maynor demanded right away.

Wade glanced at Cloud, who bobbed his head for him to continue. "Faith." The assassin winced at the mention of her name.

"What do you mean?" The voice on the line was low, immoral. "I do not wish to posses that bitch. I wish to terminate her which is something you Wolfics do not want." Maynor growled.

"No!" Wade yelled, his voice dramatically anguished. "She is in love with Cloud, but I_I cannot see her with him. She cannot be his, I will not allow that to occur." He added enraged but there was a twinkle in his eyes.

Maynor Wolferian laughed. "Why unfurl your pathetic love story to me, Romeo?"

Wade rolled his eyes. "When you encountered Faith, my dearest brother informed her everything which ended their engagement. That was my opportunity to win Faith, but, but she is still in love with my asshole of a brother." Cloud hoisted an eyebrow at Wade, who brushed him off. "Now that I am certain she cannot love me back I do not want Cloud to have her. No one can have her. So I will help you_help you kill her." Wade growled agony visible in his voice.

A moments silence spread in the room, Wade looked at Cloud and shrugged. "Why not terminate her yourself?" Maynor inquired burning with curiosity.

"Cloud is powerful, I cannot win over him. You, on the other hand posses strength and have sources." The younger Jayden attempted to provoke.

Maynor sneered. "I always knew Jayden brothers were foolish and now look at this. You come to ask for my aid, your foe, to kill your brother's woman."

Cloud shook his head at Maynor's witless words.

"So are you going to lend me a hand?"

"When you desire to make things easier for me I would not pull back from accepting your offer." Maynor answered.

Wade smirked and winked at the assassins. "I will let you know when and where you can take Faith and finish this off."

"Very well." And the line went dead.

Wade stared at Cloud, then at Alexander, who stared at them for a while then they started laughing.

"Where did you learn to act like that?" Alexander questioned leaning back.

"Aaa, that my friend is a secret." Wade ran a hand over his scalp.

"Now that he has believed you Wade, you need to be extra cautious." The Fury forewarned.

"I cannot believe that the Sahirs are here," Wade rubbed his jaw. "After father banished them, years ago, one can hardly believe his son welcomed them back."

"We cannot retreat now. Like Cloud mentioned we have to be stronger than ever." Alexander stated sternly.

Cloud gave a nod at the words of his trustworthy friend. "Wade, you will go and meet Maynor tomorrow. Ring him and tell the swine that you wish to meet him, tell him the ploy we have agreed on. How he can abduct Faith and from where." While he spoke the words his narrowed eyes stayed on the table in front of him.

"Cloud my man, don't you think Tybalt should know about this?" Wade suggested.

The Ghost shook his head. "His loyalty to father and mother will jeopardize this mission."

"What about Faith?" Alex murmured anxious.

Cloud exhaled. "She will know of this when everything is ancient history."

"I just wish everything goes as planned." Wade frowned.

The Fury rose to his feet. "Get some rest, tomorrow will be a tiresome day for us." He commanded and turned around to vacate.

"Where are you off to?" Alexander called.

"To see Faith." Cloud revealed then made his way downstairs, towards his car.

The Fury parked his car a block away from Faith's house, got out and ambled down the path that led to her house. The night was chiller and he was glad to have changed into a dark jeans and leather jacket to shield his body from the cold. Cloud opened the doors of his jutsu and unleashed his senses, he hearkened to every sound with utter concentration.

The sole of his shoes crunched dead leaves as he neared the house. At once, he halted and turned left to see a shadow by the woods look straight at him. Cloud stared at the Hijikata Shinpachi then gave a nod and advanced forward. He was contented with Lady Faith's decision, the seeker shielded Eragon's daughter with his life.

When a few good feet away from the house, the assassin stopped, closed his eyes and reached for nature, for the wind and evaporated from the street only to appear in Faith's room. Cloud opened his eyes to see Faith in the same position he had left her. He walked up to the bed, shrugged off his jacket then lay alongside his fiance. Cloud brought Faith's form closer to his and a small smile made it's way to his lips.

At least he was able to keep his oath to her.

*

Even before the first rays of sun hit the horizon Wade Jayden descended down the grand stairs and trod to the kitchen. Slumber did not knock at his door, his thoughts were like a deranged tempest. Cloud had bestowed him with a burdensome task, he was to meet the man who desired to kill the woman his brother loved and lure the wise bastard in his trap.

Wade sat on the stool and pressed his palms on the counter tile and thought about the second call he had done in order to inform Maynor to meet him, today. The house was gloomy aside from the kitchen light he had just switched on. His head throbbed and a foul tingle burned his eyes from lack of sleep. This was his first task, he no longer trained with the Fury, the Fury had unshackled him in the battlefield. There was no place for mistakes and second chances, every word, every action needed to be done with severe heed.

"Wade," he bit his lip at the sound. "What are you doing here, my son?" Rosaline walked to stand in front of him, across the counter.

"Mom, good morning." He grinned.

Rosaline peered at him for a while. "Good morning, but what are you doing here? Is something the matter?" Her voice was distressed with a hint of suspicion. That moment Wade recalled how Cloud warned him of the moment.

"Nah mom I just had a tough day." He tusked and rolled up his sleeves to his elbows.

Rosaline exhaled. "I have never witnessed you stay up so late when something is bothering you."

Wade bowed his head and a small smirk made its way to his lips. "Mom, I can't stop thinking about her she is the reason why I was unable to sleep." He wiped his smirk and looked at his heavenly mother with anguished eyes.

Merriment gleamed in Rosaline's eyes. "Oh!" She rested her palm on her cheek. "You must fancy this girl a lot." Wade nodded. "Well then tell your mother who is this girl?" She beamed at him.

The corner of his eyes twitched and names swam in his mind. What should he utter now? Wade ran his tongue over his lips searching for a name then, just like that a genuine smile played on his lips. "Nala." He vocalized.

Rosaline's eyebrows hoisted in wonderment. "Nala, Alexander's sister?"

"Yeah mom, seems like I couldn't stay away from her any longer."

"Is Alexander aware of this?" She entwined her fingers.

Wade clamped his lips in a thin line. He knew his mother loved Nala and she was exceedingly joyous with the news, however he was not in love with her. Sure he liked her, she was appealing, prepossessing and oh, her eyes, he could not help but stare in them.

"I will handle Alexander when Nala is ready to inform him about us." It was a lie, sure he lied most of the times but this time, a twisted sense in his unhinged mind wished it was the truth.

Rosaline grinned. "Do you want to eat something. I can prepare it for my son."

"No mom, you go back to sleep I will take a walk then be back."

"You sure?"

"Yeah mom, I am sure. Now go sleep before Mr.Jayden follows you down here." He smirked. Rosaline shook her head at him, patted his shoulder and ambled away from her son who welcomed a deep frown on his handsome face.

Half an hour later Wade sat in a cafe his friend owned. Morning light had just penetrated the dark shades of the night to illuminate the world. Wade huffed and rubbed his hands together to warm them, he stared out of the window and bounced his leg in perturbation. Fifteen minutes and Maynor would be present here, he would meet the man who wished to annihilate his family, his damned cousin. If anything goes wrong he would have to dig his own grave!

Slowly sun ascended higher and yet no sign of Maynor Wolferian. Wade rubbed two of his fingers on his lips, leaned back and decided to stay a little while longer. He had already three cups of black coffee to tame his nerves but failed tremendously. Patience slipped from his fingers like sand grains, he snatched his cellphone from the table ready to ring Cloud and apprise him that the bastard had not arrived yet, but halted when...

"Wade Jayden Wolfic, what a pleasant surprise." A familiar, vicious voice greeted.
