Kiana rolled on her stomach and typed into her laptop fast. A mug of coffee rested on the bedside table. Sam was sleeping peacefully after finding his comfort on the bed. She had dimmed the lights so it won't be a discomfort to him but now her eyes were poking. She took off the glasses and rubbed them a few times before blinking them.
Before her was a glass door that opened to a balcony. Her room directly faced the sea and even when the darkness that came along with the sound of waves crashing on the rock, she felt a different satisfaction. She took a deep breath and thought of facing her fears because now she knew no one was hiding in that dark. She chuckled at that thought.
She would take her mother or sister to even travel from the living room to her bedroom after the lights were switched off. The darkness has always scared her the most. Now while touring around the world she always has kept the lights on. Her fear decreased ever since Sam came but dark and sea combination is something that still terrified her. A moon shone into the sky along with a few stars. Light wind kept brushing her when she stood by the glass door and looked around.
The lights were shining from everywhere which made her heart relax. "It's alright. I can sleep well. There are people around and no one would eat me for sure," She muttered. Just when a knock on the door made her jump on her place.
A sequel almost left her mouth which she suppressed by pressing her palm against her mouth. "Shit," She breathed heavily and walked towards the door. Her eyebrows furrowed as she checked the timing in her mobile. It was past midnight.
"Whose this?" She asked in unsurety and looked at Sam who was unbothered. "Wow, that's my protector," She muttered while watching
"Vayu."
That name took her with surprise but there was no doubt about it. She could recognise that voice well. She moved closer and opened the door as she peeked through the gap with a frown.
He tilted his head and smiled at her. "I came here to say sorry about what he said," He said calmly. She stood straight and opened the door further.
"You don't have to say sorry to me for anything... I don't think you said or did anything wrong. Besides I didn't think you could say those golden words," She said while adding a bit of sarcasm towards the end. He chuckled and nodded slightly.
"I don't blame you for thinking that way... But I felt I owed you some sort of explanation. It didn't feel right to leave that way," He said while taking her off-guard. She furrowed her eyebrows further as she kept watching him.
"What do you mean?" She asked. He shrugged. "I mean what he said was right... I didn't stay in touch for some time. Not with Raghav or him but I was fighting my own shit. But it's not always necessary for me to take the first step, isn't it? Couldn't he do it? Raghav did... I know that doesn't mean I was right in doing so... But it's just what I feel," He said.
She sighed lightly. "Do you want to come inside?" She asked. He nodded as she moved to the side to give him way. Sam was awake by now. He ran to him. Vayu smiled while bending slightly and caressed him. Kiana closed the door behind them and walked further inside to show him the way.
"Let's get to the balcony. I wanted to sit there but I was scared," She said. He walked after her as Sam followed them out.
"Scared?" He asked. She nodded. "I'm scared of the dark. Especially looking at the ocean in the dark. Who knows what might come," She said while making a face. He chuckled and for one of those rarest times it felt like it had come from his heart. It looked real. She smiled along.
"Smile often... It suits you better than the hot angry young man look," She said while taking him off-guard. He chuckled lightly while shaking his head hopelessly.
"You are one of its kind. People don't usually accept that on face and play hard," he said. She shrugged. "About what you said earlier... I think the fault is from both sides. I don't know your story nor do I know about him but it's not always one's fault..." She said and added, "But if you really want to keep that person and if he or she is truly special to you or if you know that it's your fault then you can always try by keeping everything else aside."
His eyes were on her as she spoke. She smiled by the end which made his lips curled too. He nodded. "Thanks."
"Anytime," She said. He raised his eyebrows. "Really?"
She shrugged. "I'm sure you won't come to me for any advice. You have your legal team for business related things and then your mother and sisters and maybe your father for other stuff," She said.
He took a deep breath and looked at the ocean. "Yes they all are there but I prefer not to depress them with my problems. Veda still insists sometimes and I let her know a few things but not all," He said.
"Raghav?" She asked again while keeping her gaze on him. He shook his head. "I feel awkward and burdened to share my problems with anyone..." He said and added, "I don't know if that makes sense."
She smiled. "Yes you do. I feel the same too many times with my family and Anshu too so as I said, I share it with him," She said while gesturing towards Sam.
He smiled again. "The problem of your boyfriends?" He asked with a teasing smile. She smirked.
"Nice try but I don't have one... If you want confirmation," She said. He laughed while shaking his head.
"But on a serious note, sometimes it's good to share a few things... Made me feel a bit lighter," He said. She raised her eyebrows. "Me? Your fan following from school would be sad and shocked to hear this statement from you," she said.
"How can the most desired boy of the school be close with a nobody like me?" She asked dramatically. He rolled his eyes while looking at Sam who was sleeping on the floor by now.
"Have you always been dramatic?" He asked. She shrugged. "I try..."
"You shouldn't," He said and made a face while making her laugh. He chuckled while further moving her gaze around her room. "Were you working? Did I disturb?" He asked.
She shook her head. "It's been a long time since I'm on my own so I don't mind a company," She said with a faint smile. He watched her back as their stares on each other lasted for longer than those were expected. She cleared her throat and looked away.
"Tell me about yourself... I am sorry that I didn't see you in school," He said. She smiled while looking back. "What do you want to know?" She asked.
"Anything?" He asked.
She nodded with a thoughtful face. "I like Amir amongst all Khan's of Bollywood. I love Hum Aapke Hai Kaun more than DDLJ. I absolutely hate physics, history and math. I don't have any friends other than Anshika, my sister is smarter than me, I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid and I'm allergic to shellfish... That's all for now," She said. He made an impressive face.
"That's why you didn't eat fish?" He asked. "I eat fish sometimes but shellfish is a big no... No one prepares it at home and I stay away from it too. I have been asked to sniff my food or ask about ingredients before I eat... Also my ma and doc have asked me to ask the guy what he ate before I kissed him," She said and pouted. His face held a gentle smile.
"Do you know what I like about you?" He asked. "I don't think there is anything unlikable about me," She said. He laughed again as she held back her smile.
"I like how you are pretty straight when you speak," He said. "You should be... That's how people will know what you want. If you expect them to read your mind then it's not right for them," she said.
"I would agree," He said while still watching her the same. His eyes were warm and so was his smile.
"What happened to being an astronaut?" He asked. "I told you that I am not smart," She said. He raised his eyebrows and nodded in understanding. "Right, my bad that I forgot," He said.
She sighed dramatically. "So how do you manage work?" He asked again.
"You find time if you really want something and live as you always wanted," she said. "I have heard your name from peers. Also... I saw you at the conference a few years back. My mom and grandfather were impressed with how you presented the topic, how you put your views and they might have approached you to work with our company," He said.
She nodded. "Yes but I wasn't ready to settle in Delhi," She said and added, "They wanted me to work from desk."
"But I didn't think you were aware of this," she said. "I have been aware of company' every decision. Everything is discussed amongst us," He said. She nodded.
"The offer is still valid. So whenever you want to join," He said. She smiled as she spoke ahead, "I'll think about it. Thank you." He gave a nod to her with a smile.
"Do you watch movies?" She asked. He watched her in unsurety. "Yes, I mean..." He said in confusion.
She chuckled. "I want to watch 'Don't Breath'" she said excitedly.
He made a face. "Are you serious? You want to watch a psychotic killer?" He asked. She rolled her eyes.
"It's better than a cheesy romance but if you want then we can watch 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na'... So choose," She said and raised her eyebrows. He made a face again.
"That's all you have?" He asked. She shrugged. "Hmm... Let's go for the first one..." He muttered. She smiled happily and got up from her seat.
"By the way, when did we become best friends?" He asked again. She shrugged again.
"I badly want a company, Vayu... My mother says I might end feeling detached to humans soon enough if I don't spend time in their company," She said. He laughed and nodded.
"So I'm fine with anyone and if someone is coming from the front... Some actually handsome, hot, rich, smart guy then why would I reject?" She asked. He contained his smile as she started laughing seeing his expressions.
He shook his head while getting up from his seat and followed her inside. "But seriously... It's good to have a company after a while. Anshika is there some times but that poor baby has to divide her time. I understand so I don't mind. He will stay with her while I go my way again," She said as she adjusted on the bed with her laptop.
Sam jumped beside her and found his spot again. Vayu stayed by the edge of the bed as he was unable to decide what to do next. "I would control my harmons. Sit here," she said while patting beside her on the bed.
"Are you sure I have no reason to worry about? Raghav, Tanish will ask questions tomorrow..." He said.
"Anshu too," She said with a smirk. He nodded. "I don't remember my parents being this much interested in my life," He said as he walked to the other side and settled by the edge of the bed while keeping a cushion between them. She noticed but smiled at it.
"My parents... Especially my ma is opposite... She would ask if I'm dating anyone, if I slept with someone, if I got married, if I have some hidden children and what not," She said while sighing hopelessly. He laughed at it.
"So you have?" He asked with a mischievous smile. She raised her eyebrows. "Husband?"
"Children," he said as he widened his smirk. She put on a smirk. "Yeah, 4." He chuckled again and nodded while settling beside her comfortably.
The movie night started with the comments and stories from the past. The laughs echoed in the room even in serious scenes but as the movie graduated the tension arose in the air.
Vayu eyed at her worried face from the edge of his eyes and held her suddenly. She squealed as he started laughing. "I'll kill you. I wanted to do that since I met you," she shouted and got up. He slid down the bed and held a pillow before him as a shield. She made an annoyed face and tried hitting him with another pillow. He successfully dodged her attempts and threw the pillow in his hand towards her. She doged it and ran after him. Sam woofed as he jumped on Vayu and made him fall on the floor. Kiana gasped and ran to him.
She kneeled beside him and watched him in concern. "Are you okay?" She asked. He whined but sat straight while rubbing his head.
"Yeah, I feel..." He said. She sighed while looking at Sam. "Baby, you shouldn't do that," She said. He whined but she moved her hand from above his head.
"It's okay. Go sleep now," She said. Sam licked Vayu's hand. He pressed a smile and tapped his head. "It's fine."
Kiana smiled as Sam jumped on the bed again. "Are you really fine?" She asked as she sat cross-legged on the floor beside him. "I'm sorry about that," She said.
"Yes it's nothing... I'm fine," He said. "He just wanted to play," She said.
"Kiana, I understand. Don't worry," He said. She nodded. "But damn, I'm getting old... I haven't ran this crazily in a long time," He said.
"You mean ever since you were born?" She asked and got a glare from him. She laughed.
"If you don't remember then even if I wasn't a captain I got the most cheers when I was in stadium," He said. She nodded. "Of course, your girl gang would come to support you," She said. He rolled his eyes.
"Those are called supporters," He said. She shrugged. "Yeah supporters of your looks and arrogant attitude," She said.
He pressed a smile at her but moved his hand to the back if his neck and rubbed it. "Is it hurting? Tell me the truth," She asked.
"A bit," He accepted and added further, "But it will be fine."
Her worried gaze moved from his face to the neck a few times. The pain was visible on his face. She moved her hand and kept it on the back of his neck. He tilted his head slightly to watch at that unexpected gesture.
"Well, my boy hurt you. I should do something," She said and continued, "I have a spray. But maybe we can use it if it doesn't fix until morning."
"It might break and fall off until then," He said. She rolled her eyes at her drama. "I thought you were better than this," She said.
He chuckled while moving his hand down and letting her handle the situation. He kept his head low. "Who suggested you the tattoo or the Latin?" She asked.
"The one who put it there," he said. She gave him a hopeless look to which he smiled. "It's true. I was bored so I just got it," He said.
"You are amazing," She mumbled. He smiled again and sighed as she massaged the back of his neck gently. "Better?" She asked.
"Shockingly yes," He said. She smiled happily. "You seem to be all rounder," He said. "Have been on my own... Learnt many things from many people," She said.
"Don't you get bored?" He asked. "There is so much around that a day is not enough... Where is the time to be bored?" She asked.
He moved his hand back and held her wrist before moving it in the front. She gave him a confusing look. He adjusted in his seat and faced her. Her hand still rested in his hands.
"To be honest, I don't know when was the last time that I have lived like this," He said and chuckled, "That was crazy but..."
He laughed while making her smile. "Damn, I would have killed anyone to play with me but that was worth it," he said.
"I'm glad to hear that... And I like this side of your better..." She said. He smiled as his eyes flickered down to her lips before moving at her eyes.
"I haven't eaten shellfish. If that's fine," He said. She gulped hard with nervousness but nodded. "I guess it will be fine," She said while gripping her t-shirt tightly in hand while getting conscious.
He stared in her eyes for a few seconds and moved his eyes to her lips before pulling her closer by holding her hand. She bent forward and closed her eyes when his head was near as her heart anticipated the next moment.
He crashed his lips into her and the next moment pulled her closer by wrapping one hand around her waist and another keeping on the back of her head. His lips moved rapidly over hers as she grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer. They moaned as the kiss deepened. His hands carelessly moved through his hair as she made them a mess.
They pulled away a few moments later while breathing heavily. She moved down on the ground from his laps and licked the bottom of her lips. "Are you fine?" He asked while noticing her every move.
She nodded while smiling a little at him. "Yeah, don't worry. I'm all good," She said. He nodded while letting his eyes roamed on her face. He moved his hand towards her face and stuck a strand of her hair behind her ear. He further pressed his palm against her cheek and caressed it with his thumb. A smile formed on his lips.
She smiled back and cleared her throat. "We haven't finished the movie yet," She said and held his hand that was resting on her cheek. She got up and pulled him. He whined but stood on his feet as she pulled him to get back to the movie. They settled at their usual places as the comments on the movie started again and the laughs filled the place one more time as if nothing happened moments back.
