Fulvus flew in the air around the base. He had finally convinced Clint to allow him to explore the territory around the base outside by himself. Clint had always came and made sure that he stayed by him. However, Clint was in a meeting with Coulson and Fury so Fulvus managed to sneak away.
He enjoyed the feeling of the wind through his fur and how it made his feathers turn and stand almost on end. Nothing was better than flying in his natural element, except perhaps doing so with Clint.
He suddenly looked down and saw the image of Mirrow. She was walking through the grass, alone. She seemed to be enjoying it and Fulvus didn't want to interrupt her but he also wanted to thank her for what she did at the party.
He summoned the courage and landed a few paces away from her. He crept up, his talons slicing through the grass that was beginning to cool because of the temperature.
"I know you're behind me, Fulvus," barked Mirrow as her tail tip twitched.
Fulvus took a step back in embarrassment and shook his head. "I er knew I was just, um, I-" He couldn't think of anything intelligent to say and embarrassment washed over him like a dense fog.
Mirrow turned with eyes lit in amusement. "Don't be embarrassed, Fulvus. It's a beautiful day. I can't blame you from wanting some air."
Fulvus snorted at the fact that Mirrow didn't know his true intentions. "Yes, it is a beautiful day to get some sun before it's freezing." He had never really experienced winter but he had been told stories of winter by Albus.
Mirrow's eyes lit. "You can walk with me, if you want. I don't know if you have any other plans but-"
Fulvus cut her off before she could finish her thought. He would definitely want to do anything with her. "Yes, please," he nearly begged to Mirrow.
Mirrow rumbled in amusement and dipped her head. "Then come on," she rumbled as she strode forward with Fulvus at her side.
They walked in silence for a while before Fulvus turned to Mirrow with embarrassment in his eyes. "I actually wanted to thank you for helping me when I was attacked. No one else came to my aid but you did," he murmured and he actually wondered if Mirrow heard him.
Mirrow flicked her ears in surprise. "Of course! I couldn't let you just bleed like that," she pointed out as she butted her head against his shoulder playfully and it made the fur on Fulvus's haunch fur stand a bit.
Fulvus smiled. "Well, you could," he joked as he flicked his tail. "Someone would just have to pick up the body later."
"If I wouldn't have helped you then I'm sure your companion would have," she assured as she looked into Fulvus's eyes and Fulvus shivered, despite himself.
"Clint would have but he certainly wouldn't have known what to do," he told her, knowing that it was true. Clint was great but he was no medic.
Mirrow blinked his eyes. "So that's his name, Clint," she murmured with a nod of her head. "I saw my companion speaking to him but I wasn't sure of his name."
Fulvus's eyes flickered. He didn't know that Clint had been speaking to anyone beside himself, Coulson, and Fury. The fact that he was speaking with another human surprised him and shocked. He would certainly have to talk to Clint about that later.
They carried on for a while just walking, talking, and laughing occasionally. Once darkness began to set in Fulvus decided that it was best if he headed in. He wanted to speak to Clint before either of them went to sleep. He murmured farewell to Mirrow before he bounded up the stairs and over to Clint's room.
He felt something collide with him while he was daydreaming. He looked down and he saw Todd on his side, shaking his head madly.
"Sorry," exclaimed Fulvus as he lowered his head and helped Todd to his paws. "I didn't see you. I should have watched where I was going."
Todd shook his head madly to clear it. "It was probably my fault. I'm rushing all around and I knew that I was going to bump into someone."
Fulvus shook his head. "No, it's my fault. I was daydreaming."
Todd reared on her hind legs and looked up into Fulvus's eyes. Fulvus couldn't help but look away and it since he wondered if Todd could almost read his mind. However, Todd had already seen what Fulvus was hiding.
"I think that there is a female involved," he barked after a while.
Fulvus turned to face him madly. "H-How do you know," he stammered as his eyes misted over in fear.
Todd snorted in amusement. "Toms only daydream about a few things and females is the one that they daydream about the most. So, who is it?"
Fulvus wasn't that comfortable with Todd yet to tell him. He wouldn't even tell Clint or Albus. "N-No one," he lied as he felt heat run through his body. "I just have a lot on my mind with the mission. There's no female."
Luckily Todd dropped the subject and shrugged a bit. "Alright, well, there's nothing to be nervous about. I know that you and Clint can handle it." With that he strode forward with his tail swaying behind him.
Fulvus let out a deep breath before he strode over to Clint's room. He pushed the door opened and saw Clint sitting on the bed. He was looking over at Fulvus as if he expected him to walk through.
Fulvus looked at his chest feathers and longed to begin to preen them but he shook his head, knowing that it would show that he was hiding something.
"Where have you been," inquired Clint as he narrowed his eyes at Fulvus.
Fulvus strode into the room and closed the door. "Just out and flying."
"You know that you can't do that," corrected Clint in a scolding tone that made Fulvus feel like he had let Clint down. He knew that he shouldn't have been flying out without anyone but it was just too nice to surpass.
Fulvus continued forward before he sat raising a talon and pawing at his neck in nervousness. "I know but I couldn't pass it up. Besides, you were at a meeting and I wasn't invited."
"I'm sure I could have made it available for you," pointed out Clint as he moved to the ground so that he could be closer to Fulvus.
Fulvus didn't want to come any closer but she forced herself. "It would have been boring and I enjoy flying like you enjoy archery. Besides, no one saw me." At least no one beside Mirrow.
"No one," pressed Clint as if he knew that Fulvus was lying. It was probably all over his face and Fulvus couldn't hide it.
Fulvus shrugged. "Just one other wolf but she's not about to tell anyone. She probably wasn't supposed to be out anyway," he murmured as he finally summoned the courage to push forward and sit next to Clint.
Clint raised a hand and began to stroke Fulvus and it calmed him down, surprisingly enough. "Do I know this wolf," he wondered out loud.
Fulvus quickly shook his head. "No!" He realized that it sounded too sudden and loud so he shook his head. "Well, she helped me at the party. She's pretty nice and sweet and beautiful." He snapped himself. He almost told Clint everything.
Clint raised an eyebrow. "Maybe one day I could meet her if you're spending so much time with her," he inquired as he continued to fun his fingers through feathers and fur.
Fulvus was about to say something before he turned his head and nuzzled Clint's hand. He scented something on his hands, another human scent other then Coulson and Fury. "Who were you with," broke in Fulvus as he ravenously smelled Clint's hand.
Clint drew his hand away. "What does it matter?"
Fulvus's eyes widened. He was just making a big deal about who he was handing out with. "You've been spending time with a female too?"
Clint chuckled in amusement as he pushed Fulvus. "It's your 'friend's' companion," he told Fulvus as he rolled his eyes. "We talked at the party after you got beat up and then we stayed in touch through the days. She's very nice and sweet too. However, a month isn't a lot of time to get to know someone."
Fulvus could certainly agree with that. He had seen Mirrow a lot but he had only spoken to her twice, not counting the time that he ran into her and nearly plowed her over. He wished that he would have more time but he was sure he would after her got back from the mission, if he got back.
"Don't worry, Champ," broke in Clint as he stroked Fulvus. "When we get back we'll have plenty of time to get to know all of the agents."
Fulvus wasn't sure about that. It was always a when when it came to missions. "Do you think we'll come back," asked Fulvus as he lowered down and rested his head on his paws as Clint continued to stroke him.
"We will come back," Clint told him sternly.
Fulvus wasn't to believe him but something inside of him told him that he couldn't. "And if we don't?" He turned his head up to look into Clint's eyes.
Clint shrugged as if he didn't want to think about it. "Then this place will be short an archer and a griffin."
Someone deep inside Fulvus he wondered if they would even notice.
