Harlan chuckled to himself as he heard the knocking on his front door, "Alright, alright, I'm coming" he pulled open the door, seeing the last person he ever thought would be at his door. Jensen stood with Chloe in his arms, she had a plaster on her forehead. "I know this is very last minute Harlan but I need your help" Jensen begged, his eyes full of tears.
"Anything" Harlan answered, they were still his family no matter how far away they lived,
"Could you watch Chloe? Cass is in the hospital" Jen explained, instantly Harlan took Chloe from his arms "Yes! Go!".
Harlan did his best to entertain Chloe, every so often she would ask where her mom or Jensen had gone. He just answered that it was important work business. He was currently showing her his study. her jaw dropped looking at all the books on the shelves. all the different coloured spines rowed up. "Grandpa?" she asked climbing onto his lap as he sat at his desk. "Yes my child" he replied with a smile putting down his pen.
"Have you red all of these books?" Chloe questioned looking up at him, she definitely had her fathers eyes. It hurt him how she was created but he was great full for another grand child.
"Indeed I have, written a few of them two" he told her, her eyes lit up and he chuckled. "How about we play a game of hide and seek?" He questioned placing her on the floor.
Chloe quickly ran out of the room as he started counting to ten. He could hear her feet scurrying about trying to find the perfect place to hide from her grandpa. He listened as a heard a cabinet close, of course he wasn't going to go find her instantly. Now what fun would that be?
It had been what felt like hours for Chloe, she heard foot steps. She covered her mouth and noise trying not to make a sound. The door was opened but it wasn't Harlan who opened it. A man she had never met before looked at her confused "I'm Chloe, what's your name?" She introduced herself climbing out of the cabinet. "Ransom" he replied, still confused as to why there was a child hiding. Maybe it was one of the helps children.
She giggled and followed him to the couch. "That's a funny name" she commented sitting next to him, ransom rolled his eyes. Seriously where was this child's parents?! "It's my middle name" he explained trying to read the paper.
Chloe sat staring at the strange man, she had never seen anyone like him before. "Why are you here?" He huffed putting down his paper, he couldn't concentrate with her staring at him
"I was hiding from grandpa, but you found me" she stated the fact, her eyes not leaving his. There was something about the way she looked that was familiar to ransom.
They was she was so curious "Grandpa? Who's you dad?" He asked confused. Harlan was his grandad, unless Joni had had a secret child. I mean she was the only one in the family who would be capable of that. "I don't know, mummy calls him a sperm donor" she mumbled, swinging her legs back and forth.
Ransom blinked, shocked at the girls answer "Okay... who's your mummy?" He drawled, definitely could be Joni or the staff with that attitude. "Cassandra Ackles" she smiled, proud of her mom. The puzzle in Ransoms head started to put itself together. She was Cassandras daughter, which answered many questions.
"Chloe how old are you?"
"I'm five"
