PHOENIX||chapter six
JEAN GREY WAS TERRIFIED. If Thanos found her, she would be stuck with him forever. God knows what he would do if he got his hands on her after the betrayal she pulled on him when she was a child.
And with this new uncontrollable power of hers, it would quickly be detected by Thanos, who would've definitely liked to use it to get the stones.
The ship was being destroyed, people were taking pods left and right. Jean ran to where she knew the pods were being kept, but she saw the last one fly away right in front of her.
She had promised Valkyrie she would make it safely to Earth, that was the only reason Valkyrie allowed herself to leave without Jean.
Thor quickly caught up to Jean, pulling her in for a hug. But Jean quickly pulled away from the comforting hug.
"Thor, I have to hide", she told him and ran off to a safe spot to stay in. Thor looked confused about why SHE in specific had to hide but quickly ignored it at the sound of his people dying.
"Hiding...", he muttered, "Good idea".

Jean was so scared. Once she knew that the population of Asgard was either dead or safely sailing to Earth, she knew those footsteps coming close to the broom closet she was hiding in were not safe.
The twist of the doorknob opening will forever haunt her at night.
Jean quickly placed her index and middle finger to her left temple, telepathically shielding herself from one of Thanos's servants.
The servant opened the door, scanned the place, and growled while slamming the door at the fact that he found nothing.

"Hear me, and rejoice. You have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Titan. You may think this is suffering. No... It is salvation. Universal scales tilt toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... For even in death, you have become Children of Thanos", one of Thanos's slimy servants speaks while approaching him.
"Thanos", he mutters, "We have not yet found Jean, we think she may have boarded a pod like the others".
Thanos grumbled, "We'll find her on Earth once we retrieve the Time and Mind Stones".
He began speaking clearly so that the other could hear him, "I know what it's like to lose. To feel so desperately that you're right... yet to fail, nonetheless. It's frightening. Turns the legs to jelly. I ask you, to what end? Dread it, run from it. Destiny arrives all the same. Or should I say", Thanos turns around to face the remaining Asgardians and reveals he has the Power Stone in his gauntlet, "I, AM".
Thanos walks over and grabs Thor by the head.
"You talk too much", Thor says, blood spilling out of his mouth, Thanos just ignores him and looks towards his brother instead.
"The Stone...or your brother's head. I assume you have a preference", Thanos says.
"Oh I do, kill away", Loki decided.
Thanos immediately placed the Power Stone to the side of Thor's head, burning him. Thor desperately screamed in pain.

Jean was still hiding in the broom closet. She jumped at the sound of Thor screaming.
This is it, She thought, He's dead.
Jean couldn't hold in her tears anymore, a mix of grief and fright washed over her like a tsunami as Jean began to cry.
She couldn't bear to listen to the rest, blocking her ears but staring at the doorknob in case it moved.

After ten seconds of Thor being in excruciating pain, Loki had enough.
"ALL RIGHT STOP!", He yelled.
Thanos removed the Power Stone from Thor's temple and smirked, he knew he was about to get the Space Stone.
"We don't have the tesseract, it was destroyed on Asgard", Thor stated.
Loki looked at Thor, knowing something he didn't. He lifted his right arm and revealed the Tesseract in his hand.
"You really are the worst, brother", Thor sighed, out of breath.
"I assure you, brother. The shine will shine on us again", Loki assured.
"Your optimism is misplaced, Asgardian", Thanos assumed.
"Well, for one thing, I'm not Asgardian. And for another, we have a Hulk", Loki corrected, using the words of Tony Stark.
Hulk came crashing into Thanos, catching him off guard. Even after all of his beatings, Hulk has never seen someone who hasn't bled after suffering the wrath of his fists. Yet, Thanos was on a whole other level of strength when it came to Hulk.
He blocked Hulk's punch with his bare hands. Then, started giving him a beating of his own.
"All fathers, let the dark magic flow through me one last...time", Heimdall summoned the Bifrost which carried Hulk back to Earth.
Thanos paused and looked at Heimdall.
"You shouldn't have done that", he plunged his sword through Heimdall's heart, killing him.
"NO!", Thor yelled, "You'll die for that".
Ebony May, one of Thanos's servants, uses his telekinesis to place a device over Thor's mouth to shut him up, similar to the one Thor placed on Loki's mouth in New York. He grabs the Tesseract from Loki, then gets in front of Thanos, and kneels.
"My humble personage... bows before your grandeur. No other being has ever had the might, nay the nobility, to wield not one, but two Infinity Stones. The universe lies within your grasp".
Thanos grabs the Tesseract, then crushes it. He places it on the second spot of the gauntlet, beneath his middle finger.
"There are two more stones on Earth. Get them, and retrieve my Jeannie as well", Thanos ordered.
"If I may interject. If you're going to Earth, you may want a tour guide. I have some experience in that arena", Loki offered.
"If you consider failure experience", Thanos said.
"I consider experience, experience", Loki corrected, "I, Loki. Prince of Asgard, Odinson, rightful King of Jotunheim, God of Mischief, hereby pledge to you, my undying, fidelity", Loki pledged, making sure to add all of his titles in there as well. Thor spotted Loki unveiling a dagger in his left hand.
Loki attempts to stab Thanos, but his dagger is stopped by a blue glow. Thanos grabs Loki by his neck, causing Loki to drop the dagger as he begins to lift him up.
"Undying... You should choose your words more carefully", Thanos makes direct eye contact with Thor as he increases the pressure on Loki's neck.
"You...will never be...a god", Loki utters out breathlessly.
Thanos just tilts his head and smirks as he snaps Loki's neck, then drops him to the floor.
"No resurrections this time", Thanos disappears in a cloud of blue with his Black Order. But first, he makes sure to leave a purple fire created by the Power Stone.

Once Jean doesn't hear Thanos anymore, she deemed it safe to walk outside.
And she saw an alive Thor cradling a dead Loki. Thor immediately lifted his head at the sound of someone walking.
He saw Jean and tried to hold in his tears while urging her to come over. She wiped her tears as she knew that what Thor needed right now was a strong person to comfort him, not someone who could barely comfort herself.
Jean rushed over and sat on her knees, she looked at Thor with sympathy in her eyes.
"No, no. I'm okay, Jean", he assured, his voice beginning to break, "Don't get emotional I'm fine. I'm fine, Jean--".
He was cut off by Jean pulling him in for a hug. Thor immediately cried into her shoulder, wrapping his blood-stained arms around her waist.
Jean removed one of her arms from Thor so that she could close Loki's eyes. She heard that if a person's eyes weren't closed after they died, they would never make it to heaven.
Then she returned her arm to Thor. The sound of the ship rumbling got louder and louder. Thor squeezed Jean and she squeezed him, accepting death together.
Sadly, Jean knew that whatever force was inside of her, it wouldn't let her die. She would always return.
Like a Phoenix.
