"You don't understand. Me gonads, you ovaries." George complained as he and his female housemates got out of Meredith's car.
"Oh, that reminds me. We are out of tampons." Izzie said.
"I don't remember the last time I had a period." Maddie laughed.
The three others just stared at her.
"Maddie." Meredith said with wide eyes.
"Oh no! Not that!" Maddie laughed hysterically. "I just continuously take the pill so I've not had one for months, it's great!"
"That can't be good for you Mad's." George frowned, Meredith and Izzie looking at the girl in shock.
"You know for a genius, you're pretty stupid." Meredith slapped the girl around the head. "I'm taking that pill off of you."
"Hey Big Grey, no hitting Little Grey!" Bailey called as they walked past her.
"I have good reason Doctor Bailey!" Meredith defended.
"I don't care!" Bailey retorted.
"You're parading through the bathroom in your underwear when I'm naked in the shower." George said quietly.
"Some guys would love that Georgie." Maddie giggled.
"Can you add it to your list, please?" Izzie said.
"What?!" George cried.
"Tampons." Izzie said.
"To the list, it's your turn." Meredith agreed. Maddie just shrugged before walking away.
"Today's my day. I'm gonna get a surgery I can feel it." Cristina said.
Maddie looked at the girl before narrowing her eyes.
"What do you know?" Meredith and Maddie questioned.
"I know that I was here at 4:00am and you didn't get here till 4:30am."
The sisters pouted.
"Tell us." Meredith whined.
"Nu uh. No way. I'm not the one screwing an attending." Cristina said, walking away only to be followed by Maddie.
"What about me? I'm not screwing anyone!" She cried before she walked into someone.
Derek Shepherd looked at the girl with an amused smile.
"No but everyone loves you, the nurses adore you, you're Bailey's favourite and his favourite!" Cristina pointed towards Derek as she walked off.
"You're here early." Meredith said from behind her sister.
Maddie rolled her eyes as the two started talking.
"Maddie, you're on my service today." Derek smiled at the younger Grey, who was pulling her hair up into a ponytail.
"Oh goody." She smiled sarcastically. "Just page me when the flirting fest is over." And with that she left to go get a coffee.

Maddie had been on Doctor Shepherd's service all morning, helping with consults and pre and post ops.
"Have you decided a speciality yet?" Derek asked looking at the girl.
"I'm a first year intern." She laughed. "Anything but general that's for sure."
"Wasn't your Mother a general surgeon?" He asked. Maddie hummed and before their conversation could continue he got a trauma page.
"Come on Grey, this might be good." Maddie eagerly followed the attending.
Arriving at trauma, Derek stopped in his tracks at the sight of the patient, causing Maddie to walk straight into his back.
"Oof." She groaned and they both laughed. "Careful Shep, don't want my sister getting jealous."
Once Maddie saw the patient her eyes widened.
Soon enough Meredith, George and Alex arrived to assist the pair.
"Oh my god!" Meredith said. "Are those-"
"Nails." Maddie frowned while they looked at the x-ray prints.
"I can't see!" Jorge, the patient, cried out.
"Oh my god! He's conscious!" George said shocked.
"It's okay Jorge, I need you to stay very still." Maddie told the man, in a surprisingly calm and soothing tone. Derek looked on impressed while her fellow interns looked bewildered at how she kept her calm composure.
"CT's are down, what are our options?" The attending asked the three interns who just arrived, having already asked Maddie.
"MRI?" George said.
"Yes George, he's got nails in his skull, let's put him in a giant magnet." Maddie chuckled patting George on the back.
"You want films from three axis points and a C-arm in surgery." Alex said.
"Excellent." Derek smiled. "You guys dig up research and find out if this has ever happened before. Maddie, I want you to stay here, try keep him calm."
Meredith, George and Alex quickly scurried off while Maddie took a seat next to the patient.
"I can't see!" He cried again.
"Trust me Mr Cruz, that might be a good thing right now." Maddie smiled at the man despite him not being able to see her. "I barely slept so I look like crap and Doctor Shepherd here is just plain ugly."
Derek rolled his eyes playfully before leaving the room. Luckily for her, Jorge laughed, still trying to stay as still as possible.
"My wife." He mumbled.
"She's on her way, Mr Cruz, don't you worry." Maddie laid a comforting hand on his shoulder.
After a short while of keeping Jorge distracted, Derek arrived back in the room with a woman.
"Baby?" She questioned, looking at Jorge.
"Zona?" The woman approached her husband, carefully stroking his face.
Derek explained the surgery to the couple before he left to set up the OR.
"Will he be able to see again?" Zona questioned Maddie outside of the hospital room.
"We won't know until the nails come out unfortunately." She smiled apologetically. "Jorge told me he's been having headaches and dizziness."
"He has." Zona nodded in agreement. "For the past couple of months."
"I see." Maddie hummed before freezing.
Probably the wrong choice of words Maddie she scolded herself.
"I'll let you go spend some time with your husband before his surgery." She smiled about to walk away.
"Thank you Doctor Grey."
Maddie entered the scrub room meeting Derek.
"Oh Dr Shepherd!" She greeted.
"I thought we talked about this." He chuckled.
"Right... Derek." She smiled. "I think uh... I think Jorge has a tumour."
"Why would you think that?" He stopped washing his hands, looking at the young intern, not like she was stupid, but he was curious.
"Symptoms. He's suffered from headaches and dizziness for a couple months, his wife told me he needs to prepare himself to get out of bed in the morning. There has to be a reason he fell down those stairs!" She rambled.
"Maddie, I really appreciate your knowledge and concern but let's just get him through this before we start digging around for something else." He gently said before entering the OR.
Jorge's surgery was as successful as could be however they wouldn't know until the morning.

"Mom's old scrub nurse is here." Meredith said to her younger sister, looking at her for a reaction. The sisters were currently sat on Meredith's bed.
"Oh lovely." She replied with a straight face before turning to her sister. "Seriously Mer, what do you want me to do with that information? Go introduce myself so we can have a happy Ellis Grey tea party!"
"That's not what I meant." Meredith chuckled. "She knows what Mom was like, I told her she sends her regards and she knew I was lying."
The sisters both laughed together before falling asleep, Meredith holding her baby sister.
The next morning Maddie and Meredith arrived at the hospital to be greeted by Derek.
"Grilled cheese again?" He questioned Meredith.
"Cold pizza." The women answered in sync.
"Is Jorge awake?" Maddie eagerly questioned.
"Even better, come with me." He lead her away from her sister.
"Dude I'm not even in scrubs and I have a bone dry cappuccino in my hands!" She complained.
"That's an interesting coffee order." He stopped, frowning at her before continuing.
"Hi Zona, Jorge, I just wanted to bring Doctor Grey to show her how you guys were." Derek smiled once they were in Jorge's room.
"Tell Doctor Grey what colour my dress is Jorge." Zona smiled widely.
"I'd know what colour it was even if I couldn't see." He laughed before turning to Maddie. "Hey you! You told me he was ugly." He pointed to Dr Shepherd.
"Oh you don't think?" She questioned, glancing at the attending with a giggle.
After Derek asked Jorge a few questions about the past few days, checking his memory, he informed the couple about the MRI Jorge would be going for to check for bleeding.
In the MRI room, Maddie, now in scrubs, stood with Meredith and Derek.
"There. That's a tumor. It's midline near the hypothalamus."
"Damn."
"So Maddie was right?" Meredith said to Derek before they both turned to Maddie.
"I'm psychic." She winked at them.
"Is there any other way?" Zona asked.
Derek had just told the couple about Jorge's tumour and the treatment surgery. This involved cutting out a large part of his brain which could result in Jorge losing a lot of his memory and who he is.
"The alternative is gamma or cyberknife treatment with focus radiation. It's less evasive. There's little chance of memory loss or him losing himself but it would only give Jorge maybe three to five years." Derek said.
"I know this is a huge and difficult decision." Maddie gently smiled at the couple.
"If you have any more questions or you need to talk to me, I'm here, okay?" Derek said before the two doctors left the room.

"I want you to come meet Liz." Meredith said to Maddie as they say in their usual intern hideout.
"Who the fuck is Liz?" Maddie said, her mouth full of grapes.
"Mom's scrub nurse." Meredith stared at her.
"Oh." She mumbled. "Why?"
"Because I said so!" Meredith grinned, pulling her sister up. "Come on."
"Ughhhhh." Maddie groaned.
"Liz, hi." Meredith greeted, entering the hospital room. "This my sister, Maddie."
"Hi." Maddie smiled, with a small wave.
"Beauty and Brains huh? Your sister tells me you're only 22." Liz said, breathing heavily.
"I guess." Maddie shrugged with a blush.
"I told my mother about you. She remembers you very well." Meredith said.
"Of course she would. Ellis Grey never forgot a thing." Liz responded.
At this statement Maddie burst into laughter and Meredith chuckled.
"What's her diagnosis?" Liz asked the two girls.
"Alzheimer's, early onset." Meredith mumbled.
"And she doesn't want anyone to know."
"No. She's in a nursing home and we're the only people she'll allow to see her, although Maddie never does."
"For good reason." Maddie rolled her eyes.
"But if I know Ellis Grey, she made the nursing home sign a contract to that effect."
"You know my Mother well." Meredith smiled.
"What a bitch." Maddie and Liz said in unison, grinning at each other, sharing a high five and the three women laughed.
Derek had just told the Grey sisters that Jorge and Zona were going to go for the surgery, this decision, Meredith wasn't happy about and Maddie knew why.
"Meredith, stop, this isn't your decision to make." Maddie groaned as her sister approached Zona.
"You need to consider what you'll lose. What good is five years if he doesn't joke about your omelets and he can't remember seeing you in that red dress?" Meredith said to their patients wife.
"It's still five more years." Zona smiled, Maddie gave her an apologetic look.
"You don't understand. He'll be there, but he won't be Jorge. He won't even recognize you."
"Meredith, this is none of your business!" Maddie snapped, now getting annoyed.
"You have no idea what this will do to you. Isn't five good years better than ten bad ones?"
"Meredith, what the hell are you doing?" Derek approached them, anger evident on his face.
"This is Jorge's decision. And if that means ten bad years for me, fine. I'll give him those years because I will give him whatever he wants." Zona said, now getting emotional.
"I'm so sorry Zona, she's just an intern." Derek tried to reason.
"And if he doesn't remember me, if he doesn't remember what we are, he's still my Jorge. And I'll remember for us both." Zona continued.
Meredith stormed off, Maddie quickly following after apologising to Zona and the attending.
She followed her sister into the bathroom where the eldest of the two was crying.
"C'mere Mer." Maddie whispered, pulling her sister into her arms. "It's okay, I've got you."
