Song: Blank Space- Taylor Swift
"I will make you fall for me, and once I do, I will do everything to break that little cold heart of yours."
Luke's words replayed in Jaylee's mind like a broken record. Every thought she had were those stupid words of his, and she was just about ready to hit her head off a nice, brick wall. She would never fall for him, and he was stupid to think she would, were her thoughts. The whole night, the words he said continuously played through her mind as if they were on a loop. Even when she fell asleep, those words were in her dreams. When she went to school, they invaded her thoughts. She knew she wouldn't let him break down her walls and later break her heart.
She knew the extremities of the hurt when broke a heart, and there was no way in hell she would go back down that road. So, she closed herself up, turned cold, bitter, and reckless, and now, here she was: a heartbreaker. The only problem she had was this; every time she saw Luke. she saw Eric, and she knew that would be the one thing to destroy her.
"Jaylee, you are going to be late for your next class!" Her English teacher yelled, and Jaylee returned to reality. She quickly grabbed her books and ran to art. Her teacher, Mrs. Green, who was about seven months pregnant, decided to change their seats that day, and ironically, Jaylee was sat beside none other than Luke.
Jaylee knew Luke would have one problem, and that would be breaking her heart. No one could even attempt to break her heart, and that was a fact. After a person's heart is shattered to pieces, they change so much, they do things to keep bad out and never let the good back in-- even if that means becoming the type of person everybody thought they would never be.
Jaylee was completely dazed out while Mrs. Green was lecturing about the colors and how to mix them, which she could care less about. She was staring into space when she felt a warm hand grip her thigh and moved its way upward. Luke gripped her leg, and he was completely satisfied when he felt her jump the slightest. He would get a rise out of her, no matter what it took. She glanced down to see Luke's hand, and she grabbed his hand, taking it away from her legs and roughly placing it back on the table.
"Don't ever touch me again, you perv." She gritted out, glaring daggers through him, and Luke smirked at her, resting his cheek on his hand. He had affected her, and he was proud. Jaylee started to pay attention to Mrs. Green's lesson. Luke's arm brushed against hers, and she knew he had moved his chair closer to her. She hated the way tingles ran up and down her arm, for that screamed bad in her head. It was going to be a long day, especially with someone as annoying as Luke, she thought.
"Okay, class, we will continue discussing this tomorrow. Here are your art books." Mrs. Green passed out our books and returned to the front of the class. "You and the person next to you will be creating a scene on a canvas from outside. I would prefer somewhere in the park. This will be due next Friday."
The bell rang and the students leave the class. Luke walked beside Jaylee down the halls, and she was even more annoyed. Not only did she had to sit beside someone so insufferable, but now she had to work on a project with him. Luke, on the other hand, was even more content. This would give him a greater chance of bringing out the real Jaylee and making her vulnerable. Luke wrapped his arm around her waist, and leaned by her ear.
"I will see you after school today, baby." He whispered, kissing her cheek, and walked away to his locker. Jaylee rolled her eyes in disgust as she reached her locker. She put all her books away and was about to close her locker, but someone slammed it shut, almost taking her hand with it.
Jaylee glared at him, and he only smirked at her. "So, I was wondering if maybe you could take me home?"
"Um, why can't you drive yourself?" She asked, walking away from him, and he caught up to her as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. The way the tingles shot through her arms made her hate his touch even more.
"My car was towed because I parked in a no parking zone. My dad won't let me get it until next week because apparently I was being 'irresponsible'." He admitted, and Jaylee gasped, glancing over at him with wide eyes.
"No way, the Luke Sullivan being irresponsible?" She rolled her eyes, "I couldn't imagine."
Luke glared at her, but Jaylee could easily tell he was holding back his laughter. Whether he wanted to admit it or not, she amused him. But hell would freeze over and heaven would collapse before he ever admitted that one.
"Can you give me a ride or not?" He questioned, his voice laced with irritation, and Jaylee let out a sigh as they reached her car.
"Fine, but if you dare even think about touching me, I swear on my grave I will dump your sorry ass on the side of the road." He removed his arm from her and smirked.
"Don't worry, babe. That's for later." Luke winked at her, and Jaylee gasped. She punched him in the arm as he jumped in her car. She walked around to the driver's side and hopped in, starting the ignition. She sent him one last glare, and he laughed. It made him happy when he joked around with her; something only he would know, of course.
As they rode down the highway, Luke reached for the radio and turned on 106.3, which was only the best radio station in California. Well, at least he had good music taste, she thought. Luke started to obnoxiously sing, and she glanced over at him, laughing and shaking her head. He could be funny when he wanted to be, and if she was being truthful, she liked that side of Luke a lot more than his bad boy heartbreaker facade.
Luke, of course, had a similar feeling. He liked that Jaylee could joke around with him, something no one could do for a long time. He liked to hear her laugh, especially at his jokes or the things he did to be funny. Even though he felt that way, he had to remember his main goal, and that was to break his enemy's heart.
As he was singing, he glanced at her out of the corner of his eye and shot her a wide grin. Her eyes were lit up with amusement, and it made him happy. He was about to say something, but then his phone started to buzz, so he took it out of his pocket before he glanced at Jaylee.
"Can I go to your house? I don't have any keys and my mom won't be home until later." Jaylee hesitated to respond at first, but then he continued. "We can work on our project."
Jaylee glanced at him and nodded as they reached a red light. He turned his head and glanced out the window, and after about five minutes, the light finally switched to green. Jaylee reached her house, and she unlocked the door and walked in, plopping down on the couch. Luke walked in and sat beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulder. Jaylee mentally slapped herself, but why?
She didn't want him to move his arm. In fact, it was the most comfortable she had ever been, and a part of her wanted to lean into his touch and stay right there.
But, if that was his way of making her fall for him, he sucked at it. She was about to move his arm when he moved it himself. About ten minutes later, her shoulder became heavy, and when she glanced at it, she saw his head of soft, black hair. She knew he could be faking just to get a rise out of her, or maybe, just maybe, he was actually asleep. Jaylee continued to watch the TV, and as the show switched to a commercial, Luke's phone started to vibrate.
Luke, who was completely taken by surprise, jumped five feet off of the couch. Jaylee busted out laughing, and Luke shot her a confused look. He had no idea what she was laughing about, but whatever it was, he was grateful for it. Her laugh was so vibrant, so lively, and it was his favorite part of her; well, besides her smile. What was he thinking, though? They were enemies. He wasn't supposed to like anything about her. He was only supposed to destroy her.
"What are you laughing at?" He asked, shooting her a dirty look, and Jaylee laughed even harder. She laughed so hard, she couldn't catch her breath. Honestly, she probably looked something like a dying walrus.
Luke's dirty look suddenly transformed into an evil grin, and Jaylee knew she was a goner. She tried to stop laughing, but she completely failed. At the speed of light, she ran across the living room, and Luke crept towards her. Jaylee tried to make a run for it, but Luke caught her and threw her over his shoulder. He sat her on the couch, and plopped down right beside her.
"I will give you something to laugh about!" He hollered, trying to wrap his arms around her waist, but then he started to tickle her sides, and Jaylee lost it. She tried to push him off of her, but somehow, that only brought him closer to her.
She fidgeted underneath his touch, laughter escaping her mouth. "Okay, okay! I'm sorry!"
"I don't believe it." Luke tickled her all over, which made her laugh so hard, she lost her breath. "Say, 'Luke is the hottest guy on this planet and I am so desperately in love with him', and I might stop."
He grinned widely at her, tickling her even more. Jaylee fidgeted underneath his fingers, trying to roll away from him, but Luke had her pinned down to the point where it was almost impossible to move.
"What the hell, no!" She giggled more. "I won't lie!"
More laughter exploded from her mouth, and Luke continued to smile at her. He was really enjoying this, truth be told. He loved seeing her so happy. Seeing her happy made him happy, and he hated that. Luke hated that she had some effect on him, but he would never dare to admit it.
"Okay then, I will keep tickling you." He continued to tickle her sides, and she decided to give in. If he tickled her anymore, she might lose enough breath to actually need an inhaler. Tickling was torture to her poor, sensitive body.
"Okay, fine!" She laughed some more, and Luke raised his eyebrows at her. "Luke is the hottest guy on this planet and I am so desperately in love with him!"
He stopped tickling her, and stood up, laughter escaping his mouth. For a second, she caught something so unreadable in his eyes, she didn't know how to decipher it. Luke started to walk towards her front door, and she followed. He faced her and grinned.
"My mom is home now, so I will see you tomorrow. We can start on our art project." Jaylee nodded as Luke opened the door. She thought he was going to leave, but then he caught her completely by surprise.
He kissed her.
The kiss wasn't hard or rough; it was soft and passionate. The kind of kiss every girl dreamed of, but some never had the opportunity to feel. Luke's hands found their way to her waist and pulled her closer, while her hands rested on his chest. Luke was surprised by how much he had enjoyed this. He didn't think she would be good at all, but in reality, it was the best kiss he had ever felt-- something he would never tell her, of course. They would have continued, but Luke's phone started to vibrate again. He pulled away from her and glanced at his phone, shooting Jaylee an apologetic look.
"I have to go. See ya." He kissed her on the cheek, smiled, and walked out the door. The grin never left his face, even when he started his walk home. When he was out of her sight, Jaylee smirked. She still hadn't fallen for Luke.
But with that kiss, she was definitely having a harder time trying to fight the feelings that were surfacing.
