Jungkook wanted nothing more than to slay them right then and there, and he didn't know why. He'd seen humans treat each other badly all the time. "She's your daughter. You prayed for her. How could you have treated her the way you did?"
The husband rolled his eyes, forgetting that he was a church deacon and Jungkook was an angel. "She's a demon, you said so yourself. She's not my daughter."
Jungkook turned to look at the mother, "Even if he feels that way, she is your daughter. Did you know that she almost drowned when she was four because you left her in the tub by herself?"
At least she had the decency to look ashamed, "I didn't know," she whispered.
"Has she ever gotten a fever that wouldn't break no matter what you did?"
The mother looked concerned. "When she was 10, she kept crying for her Tae and Minnie, but we didn't know what she was talking about. She didn't have any toys."
"How did she get better?"
"I'm not sure; after a few days, she just got better one day. We never figured it out."
He was about to say something more when he felt their presence. He glared at the parents before leaving their room: "And you call yourselves Christians. If you are what it means to be a good human, then I don't see why we should even bother trying to save humankind. Because frankly, I don't see any good in either of you." Then he left. They were outside in the woods, the same woods he'd found her getting into trouble so many times with these two.
"Have the symptoms kicked in yet?"
Jungkook's head snapped to look at Tae, "what are you talking about?"
"It's been a week since she's seen us; her fever should have kicked in. It will only worsen if you don't let us see her."
"You are not going anywhere near her demon," the Angel roared.
Jimin plopped down on the ground and leaned up against the tree like he had no care in the world, "then she'll die, and you'll never see her again." Jungkook's eyes rolled so hard at the idiotic demon; if she died, she'd go to heaven, and he'd see her any time he wanted. But that just made the demon smirk, "She's a halfling dumbass."
The confusion must have shown on the Angel's face because the two demons burst into giggles as they rolled around on the ground. "She's half human, half demon, a halfling. If she dies, only her human side dies. She'll become a demon unless drastic measures are taken, which won't happen because we want her with us."
That pissed Jungkook off to no end, "you aren't getting her or seeing her."
Tae stood up and brushed the leaves and dirt from his pants. "One or the other will happen. You have at most a week before the fever consumes her. We'll be here when you decide whether you want to save her or not." Then they were gone.
Jungkook left; he was so confused. Why were they so sure she was going to die? What did they know that he didn't? But they were right; no matter what the three angels did, she was only getting worse. She cried for Tae and Minnie every single day. "Why do you want them so badly?"
She could barely open her eyes; she hadn't left Jungkook's bed since he discovered she was sick. She refuses to eat, and he barely gets her to drink water. He's never wished that he could indulge like the humans do, oh what he wouldn't give to get drunk or even to pass out right then and forget about everything. "They made it better last time I was this sick. All I had to do was let them hold me, and I felt so much better."
So, Jungkook found himself doing something he never thought he'd do. He lifted the halfling and made his way to the woods. The demons were already there, waiting. "Before I hand her over, what's wrong with her?"
"She imprinted on us, and because she's a halfling, if she goes more than two weeks without having contact with us, she'll die."
Now Jungkook was beyond pissed, "You let her imprint on you? How could you?"
Jimin rolled his eyes, "we didn't let her do anything. You weren't with her, Angel; you didn't see just how terrible her life was, and that's coming from a demon. She imprinted on me the first night she met me. Tae was normally the one who watched over her. If I had to I made sure she didn't see me after she turned a year old, she called me G me. But when she was three, Tae got called away on business, and I heard her cry out for him. I watched as her parents scolded her for having a nightmare."
Jungkook had never seen a demon so upset before, "she was a baby, and they yelled at her for having a nightmare. I was in her room, and as soon as I saw her, I opened my arms, and she ran into them. She started calling me Minnie from that night on, and that's when she imprinted on me."
Tae looked at the whimpering halfling in the Angel's arms, and he felt so bad that he was partly the cause of her pain, "she imprinted on me when I saved her from drowning in the tub. After that, there was no way to reverse it, so we stayed for her safety. Believe it or not, we love her and want nothing but the best for her."
"Can you fix this?"
Tae and Jimin nodded and walked towards the Angel, "but we have to take her with us."
Jungkook growled, "You are not taking her to Hell; if something happened, I can't go there to protect her."
Jimin picked up a pinecone and threw it at the Angel. "Have you not been listening? We've been there for her more than you ever have. We'd never let her get hurt."
"You are hurting her right now," Jungkook yelled.
"Only because you won't hand her over," Jimin yelled. They both stood there panting and frustrated. "Give us 24 hours. In that time, you can find somewhere that we can meet her once a week and spend time with her so it doesn't get this bad again."
"Fine," Jungkook replied with his teeth clenched closed. "If anything happens to her, I will not hesitate to retaliate against you two." Both demons rolled their eyes at the Angel and held his arms out. Jungkook reluctantly handed the halfling over to the demons. "I'll be here in 24 hours; do not be late." And then he was gone.
Tae looked at Jimin, "Jin and Hobi are going to kill us when they find out."
Jimin sighed, "Well, we can't stay here, so let's go beg for our lives." When they got back, Hobi was on the couch with his eyes closed, and Jin bent over, looking for something on the bookshelf with his back to them. "We're home."
"Where do you guys keep running off to? It's no longer like you have to worry about your little Kitten," Tae and Jimin were waiting for Jin to turn around and see how badly they screwed up.
"Uhh," Tae whispered.
Hobi opened his eyes and looked at the two younger demons, "you didn't?"
Jin whipped around, "You didn't wh, oh my, what the fuck were you thinking? How could you bring her here? Do you want us to die? Because if he finds out, we're all dead."
"Jinnie," both Tae and Jimin whined.
"Don't you Jinnie me you two, explain yourselves right now."
Jimin nodded for Tae to explain while he got comfortable on the couch with their Kitten. "The Angel gave her to us because she's sick, and they can't fix it."
"Why can't they fix it? That will only be an issue one of you improves... Please tell me that you didn't cause her to imprint on you. I warned you over and over."
"We both did, sorry."
Jin looked at Jimin, who was doing his best to avoid eye contact with the older man, and then he looked at Tae. "Tell me everything, now. Do not leave anything out."
"Jimin imprinted on her when she was 3; it was a complete accident. He was comforting her after a nightmare and her parents yelling at her. Then it happened with me when she was 4, she almost drowned because her mother is the worst and I saved her." Tae looked down at the ground not wanting to see the disappointment in Jin's eyes, "we didn't know that she'd imprinted on us until later."
"When did you know?"
"Remember when we left on that mission and then got hurt? We didn't go see her for almost two weeks?"
Jin's face scrunched up a bit; his hand came up to pinch the bridge of his nose as he sighed heavily. "That was nearly a decade ago, Taehyung. You've been hiding this from us for that long; how could you?"
"I don't know how to explain it to you, how to make you understand. But we love her; her parents are so terrible to her. We had to do something."
"You were supposed to kill her, not become her demon guardians."
Tae wanted to cry; how was he supposed to make them understand? "Minnie, Tae. Where am I?"
Everyone's eyes snapped to the halfling waking up on Jimin's lap. Jimin reached down and brushed her hair behind her ear, "Hey Kitten, do you feel better?"
She snuggled into him more and squeezed him tighter, "I always feel better when I'm with you two. You guys are my favorite people besides Kookie!"
Hobi smiled and slid closer to her, "Who's Kookie, little one?"
Her smile was so infectious that it was hard to believe that she was half demon. She looked so angelic: "Jungkook, he's an Angel who has been caring for me. He lets me sleep in his bed. He's the best."
All four demons sucked in their breath, and Tae was pissed. How dare that stupid Angel take advantage of their precious Kitten? He walked over to where she was sitting and kneeled before her, "Kitten, I'm Jin. Minnie and Tae are our friends."
"Hi, Jinnie!"
Jin smiled and looked at Tae, "I can't, she's too cute."
Hobi slid over so he was right next to them, "I'm Hoseok, but you can call me Hobi."
"Hi Hobi!"
Hobi looked at the others, "I'm in love. Can we keep her?"
Tae and Jimin started cheering about how that was the most fabulous idea ever. Jin knew he had to take control before this got out of hand. "Guys, we can't keep her. She belongs to the Angels."
"But she imprinted on us, so she's going to have to see Jimin and me at least once a week!" Tae whined, and he didn't care at all.
"We'll figure something out, I promise. For now, let's get her something to eat. She's practically skin and bones." He stormed off towards the kitchen, demons don't have to eat but Jin likes to cook so he makes them eat regular meals. He needs someone to be his guinea pig, "what were those damn angels thinking? Letting that precious baby starve to death. I will have a word with them when I see them next."
Jungkook was pacing back and forth in his room. "Are you sure she'll be okay with them?"
He looked at the two angels sitting on his bed; he'd been with them for so long that he didn't remember what it was like not to have them around. "I didn't exactly have a lot of options, guys. I mean, we couldn't fix it, and they could. The main issue is now we have to find somewhere that she can go to meet them, where we can watch over her. I don't think they'd hurt her, but I don't trust them either."
