__________

It was chaos in the Mikaelson's mansion. A mix of glass breaking, body hitting the walls, furniture being thrown, and of course people yelling at each other.

Nothing could have been so beautiful, so united, then Finn shielding an equal murderous yet guilty Kol from a murderous Niklaus who being held back by Elijah, and an equally angry Damon pinned by Rebekah.

But there was also a frightened yet captivated Ayden, watching the whole scene a bag of chips in his hands, munching rather loudly.

« Enough! All of you shut the bloody hell up! », the only female Mikaelson around, yells at the top of her lungs, letting go of Damon who didn't waste a second to flash towards the other two angry vampires. Only, Rebekah flashed in the middle of the three with an expensive vase she threw to the ground, her heartbreaking at the same time it shattered.

'My bloody Italian vase...', she shut her eyes for a second, remembering the price which well, she paid -using compulsion. Then opening her eyes, she focused on the task at hand: shutting up three childish narcissistic wanker vampires.

'Ugh, what the bloody hell does she find in them?', Rebekah raged thinking of Mazikeen liking them for reasons that were totally out of her understanding.

The noise of the shattered vase brought silence to the room. « You're angry -he's angry and you too are angry! We get it but shut the bloody hell up because if you haven't realized you're all to blame and she- Mazikeen is still breathing, therefore alive. Vampire or not. »

She felt then the need to precise that, knowing with their high genes emotions, they couldn't think properly. « Kol,  I know you're beating yourself up for what happened but -I'll tell you what she would have told y-. »

« Don't. », he fumed, pushing Finn away from him and taking a threatening step towards his sister. « Don't you dare talk as if she's dead. »

« She might as well be if she's in transition. Kol, stop drowning yourself into guilt and you- », she says pointing at both Klaus and Damon who had been quiet all along. « Stop guilt-tripping him! You lied to her as well Nik, and Damon- well, you didn't tell her anything, and don't you both think about saying you didn't lie but 'omitted the truth'. »

« I'm sick of you fighting over her. Once she wakes up, you three are going to have a big talk like grown-ups! », Rebekah threw her hands in the air in exasperation. « Now, while you wait like the responsible thousand and hundred years old vampires you are, I will make sure that tomorrow's party will be a reminder of a possibility to have a normal life.  Bloody hope you have sorted everything out by 7 PM because I will not accept any excuses. »

After one last glare towards the three, she left the room muttering words they could all hear thanks to their hearing. « Mazikeen's the one hurt yet you still find the time to act like bloody narcissistic dramatic wankers. »

Soon, they could all hear -even Ayden- her voice, shouting at some workers to change the placement of the Christmas tree.

« There was a lot of bloody...and not just literally. », Ayden's voice filled the silence of the room causing everyone to turn towards him. He was caught munching on a huge amount of chips he had hastily thrown into his mouth. Embarrassed, he looked for a way out. « Uh oh, Rebekah needs my fashionable opinion -yep, have fun. »

Next, he ran to the door leaving Elijah, Finn, Klaus, and Kol to stare blankly at the door who closed in a 'clack!'.

As if one, they simultaneously sighed.

__________

He was kneeling on the floor, watching her.

Listening to her breathing.

Leaving feathering touch on her hands.

He was too scared, felt extremely guilty to touch her, afraid he would hurt her more than he already did. He was also scared she would wake up and suddenly scurry away from him or worse, say that she hated him. He could not bear it.

He had hurt her, drank her blood without asking and it didn't matter if she thought of saving him, for him...for Kol, his life didn't matter in front of hers, in front of her safety, her happiness.

He was sure now that he loved her. He knew exactly when he fell in love with her, on that trip to see the Gilbert boy. He loved her ever since, though he was still blind to it all now, instead of thinking of ways to confess, he was hoping, praying with all his heart she was okay and didn't hate him.

The variation of her pulse that went sometimes quick and sometimes slow, her body moving, temperature rising and the sweat on her forehead were all the signs that confirmed to him she was alive. And each time she would shift, he would back away as if wanting to merge with the wall and disappear but once he realized she was still 'asleep' he would come back like a dog with his tail between his legs.

Truthfully, Kol didn't believe his darling was asleep, no. He had tried getting into her head but the instant he materialized inside, he was thrown right back out, and to make matter worse, they would both end up with nose and ear bleeds.

Seeing this, he had stopped trying and would momentarily hold her hand, run his fingers through her hair, and whisper soft words.

Now he was in the middle of warming her hands that had suddenly gone cold when he felt it.

It started as an itch, an uncomfortable feeling on his left pectoral. Then it got worse, it started burning as though a heated branding iron was pressed on his skin. At first, Kol thought it was just his guilt being enhanced but vampirism. But then when his heart also started to ache and that Mazikeen was thrashing around, he knew something was wrong.

Kol flashed to the mirror and ripped off his shirt. Immediately wincing upon seeing the skin on his chest was red. However he didn't have time to realize it, the pain got worst than it already was, causing him to shout and groan in pain.

He couldn't comprehend what was happening, he wasn't aware of anything else than the pain, not even when Rebekah barged inside the room.

« It's happening...it's happening to you too. »

__________

At the same time, somewhere unknown

In a two-story house, a man was peacefully or rather boringly reading a book he has read 100 times already when he felt it.

The burning sensation. And not the type he liked to inflict. No, this one was different, it was worse.

He had dropped the book long ago and was taking off his shirt while doing his best to run to the nearest mirror. In pain, he finally arrived in front of it, just in time to watch the extremely red skin of his right side letting some black and colorful drawing appear.

The man was sweating as if he was in a sauna. After spending an hour in pain and laying on the floor, he painfully stood his legs, clutching each side of the mirror and admiring the mark.

If compared to a tattoo, any artist would have agreed it was the best tattoo ever made to look like a birthmark.

Then with his head tilted to the side and scrutinized eyes, he contemplated it in wonder. «  Hm, is this a new punishment? »

__________

Somewhere else unknown

Punches could be heard, as a man was working out using a boxing bag. It was one of his favorite moments other than following a certain someone. The man was in a heavy training session when he had to stop due to a particular pain.

He knew what it was, and what it meant.

Which was why he calmly walked to the large mirror covering an entire wall of his workout room, unaffected by the burn, and admired himself.

He watched as a drawing, a tattoo-like nark ascended from his left arm and ended up right above his left pectoral, above his heart.

With a satisfied smile, he touched it, feeling it with everything in him. « It was about time you appeared back. »

« Soon Mae. Soon. », were the words he whispered after one last glance at his arm and he left the room for a shower, knowing that the time was about to come when everything would unravel.

__________

Back in the Mikaelson's household

The Mikaelsons, Damon, and Ayden were all gathered in Elijah's study examining Klaus's, Kol's, and Damon's bodies when the three suddenly stood up and simultaneously van-speeded out of the room. Curious, the rest all but followed after them. Poor Ayden began regretting all the bags of chips and popcorn he had ingested as he arrived much later than them and plopped on the ground, panting.

When he looked up, he was both flabbergasted at what he was seeing and happy he was the last in -or rather in front of Kol's room, where Mazikeen was.

When Klaus, Damon, and Kol flashed to the latter's room, they knew why, because they felt it. They felt her waking up.

One second she was on the bed and the next she was on the floor coughing up water. Immediately they all ran and bent next to her, saying soothing words to calm her. Only it didn't seem to work and they soon realized it as when they looked into her eyes, they were surprised, her eyes were glowing, a mix between red and purple and blue. They were mesmerized.

So much that they didn't notice the changes in her behavior. All but Damon since he was familiar with it. With the way, she blinked her eyes so fast trying to focus on something but couldn't. The way she started sweating, her body temperature rising, her heart beating so fast it was practically the only thing she was hearing.

And finally the red mist and surge of power surrounding her and suffocating the whole place.

« Oh no. », were the only words he had the time to mutter before he and the others were thrown away from her and into the walls. All he could hear were the shatters and screams he internally cursed his enhanced hearing for catching every sound.

Swaying, Mazikeen stood up panting with unfocused eyes and mind. She couldn't hear anything else other than her heart pumping fast, prompting her to do only one thing: run.

And she did, she followed her gut, turning to what was letting the light and wind in whichever place she was. She jumped out of it, landing in a crouch with one hand on the ground, one knee bent, and the other extended.

Then standing up, she took off in the woods, running fast, going where her feet led her. Mazikeen didn't want to stop not until she felt out of the water, where she could breathe.

__________

« What happened. Do you think it could be the transition? », Finn was the first one to break the silence inside Elijah's study. After Mazikeen's outburst, they all couldn't believe what had happened.

« Impossible. », Elijah countered. « She di- with Kol's blood in her system, she can only turn into a vampire. », he adds, thoroughly thinking of his words upon feeling the sharp looks of his brothers and Damon on him. And if he had made a mistake of saying she was dead, he knew they would have gone his head and heart.

« So she is a witch then? Or at least some type of witch because she's definitely not human. », starts, recalling what happened not long ago. « The red thing, that power, it was incredibly strong. Did you feel it as well didn't you? »

No one answered her but Rebekah knew the answer.

« You said 'oh no'. You said it before the...explosion. Why is that? », Klaus suddenly says, standing up and facing Damon with a hard look.

Remembering the same, Kol flashed next to him. « Why?! »

Clutching his hair Damon felt oppressed, just like the other two, they were on edge. « Because!... It has already happened. », he whispers but the vampires in the room hear him right. « Before leaving for the Appalachians, she and Caroline were attacked by something. He said those things and she got angry practically disintegrated him to dust. He was nothing like a vampire and died nothing as one would too. »

They became all silent unsure of what to think about this new information.

« Why didn't she tell us? », Klaus wonders.

Damon sighed, walking around the room. « She promised me to keep it a secret and- »

Before he could continue, Kol cut him off, saying exactly what he was about to say. « She wanted to find out herself before telling us. She wanted to know if she was dangerous for us. »

After all, Kol was the first one to know about her, about the real Mazikeen. A bitter smile coated his lips remembering the day after the Mikaelson's ball when they went on their first trip.

Rebekah walked in the middle of the room, bringing everybody's attention on her. « So how do we find her and fast because there's only the rest of the day and a few hours before the Christmas party. Noone late, remember? »

« Everything is not about your petty little parties Rebekah. », Kol fiercely glared at her and she rolled her eyes fixing the others.

« We can't find her. », it was Klaus who spoke so lowly with a defeated voice that the vampires in the room barely heard him.

« Why? », Finn questions, having observed Kol, Klaus, and Damon. He had an idea of what happened and was happening until now. But without a word from Mazikeen, he couldn't say anything.

« She's confused and doesn't want to be found. », his mind was focused on her. His heart tugged, a sudden pain coming from her though he knew a part of that pain was from him because she was blocking him. It was like a feather of her presence could be felt, and it hurt Damon.

Rebekah and Elijah exchanged a glance, startled by this new information. Walking towards Klaus, Rebekah arched a brow. « How do you know that? »

« We can feel her. », it was Kol who answered, prompting her to look at him with surprise, she, Elijah, and Finn. They didn't need to ask how as they guessed it was due to the marks.

Heavy silence and tension washed over the room before Rebekah rolled her eyes, and walked out of the room, but not before saying: « What a bloody Christmas present Mazikeen. »

__________

« You tell anyone about this and I will ensure that the Bennett's bloodline stops here, right now. », was Kol's threat towards Bonnie who gulped with sweat dripping down her forehead. If at first Bonnie found Kol was all flirty and funny even when threatening someone that was all changed now...or the one in front of her was the real Kol.

Bonnie would have said something snarky back or even given him an aneurysm but seeing the look of the rest convinced her to keep her mouth shut or else, she would kiss her entire bloodline bye-bye.

So she nodded, curiosity being the last straw to agreeing with the Mikaelsons and surprisingly Damon. She felt the weirdness wash over her body until it reached her soul.

Once Kol stepped away from in front of her, Bonnie could now see the inside of the room. Actually, she wondered how she didn't notice the pitiful state of the front door- or what it was a day before.

« You're saying...she did this? », she asks again unsure of what she was seeing and at who they said was the author of it.

« Yes, I know, shocker right? I'm starting to love this 'where the Mystic falls' town. », Ayden answers from the doorway while eating popcorn.

In one word, Kol's was...chaotic.

His bed? Long gone or had become the dust on the floor. What she imagined to be the shelves and vases, were on the floor into broken pieces. 'They must have been floating in the air.'

The dresser? Broken and half burnt, Klaus fell into it. The windows were shattered and the curtains were all burnt out. In sum, the room looked like a mix between broken, burnt, and MIA.

« What do you know? », it was Klaus who asked her. The only ones with Bonnie were him, Ayden, Kol, Damon, and Rebekah who was divided between observing her expressions and giving instructions to some workers placing the Christmas decorations around the house.

As for the answer they were waiting for, Bonnie was sure she had more chances to ace her maths tests with eyes closed than answering it. And probably more than getting out of there alive if she said one wrong word with the way the vampire men looked unfocused and unstable. It was as if they weren't in the room, as if their bodies were present but their souls were away.

__________

In the afternoon

« So you're saying...those marks suddenly appeared on your bodies while she was sleeping? », Bonnie asks with uncertainty written all over her face, watching all three vampires' marks.

« Yes. », Klaus responds with annoyance, turning around and pulling down his shirt.

« Suddenly...like that. You didn't go to a tattoo artist? »

'Who could blame her, the supernatural world was getting weirder and weirder every single day.', Damon internally scoffed, rolling down his sleeve. « Yes and no. », he answers.

Kol next to him was buttoning his shirt with a sad face.

Sighing, she paced to the left. « You didn't do anything- », she starts to ask again but is interrupted by an angry and annoyed female Mikaelson.

« Oh, for bloody fuck's sakes, no they didn't do anything else other than make me want to tear my ears off with all their bloody disputes just like you're doing with your questions Bonnie. », the woman says with exasperation while crossing something off her todo list for the Christmas party that was for tomorrow.

Walking out of the parlor after exposing her train of thoughts, Rebekah was taking it to heart to make this Christmas party, the best that anybody had and will ever have. Something her siblings found touching but couldn't help but fear and find annoying with the yells that haven't stopped echoing through the house since the day before.

« I just want to be sure. I mean, I've never heard of something like this and I looked into my family's grimoires...still nothing. », Bonnie explains, bringing back the vampires' attention on her and the topic's at hand.

She had been called right after Klaus, Kol, and Damon had stopped being in pain and when they noticed the marks. Whereas she wasn't all friendly with the Mikaelson's she was curious and was working on her 'hypocrisy' and criticizing attitude. It wasn't easy and she wasn't going to change for just vampires, but she knew and wanted to understand all these creatures more, starting with herself and how witches are in reality hypocrites.

« Know your history before making your story. Sometimes your ancestors have done more stupid things than you, so you'll know which road to take to do less stupid. », were the words Mazikeen had told her and Bonnie had found out she was right, there were many things about the Bennett's history she had no idea about.

While she was thinking of what she had found out, Bonnie's train of thoughts was diverted by Ayden who felt like he was in a drama show and was enjoying every bit of it.

« Maybe it's an infection. », he says causing everything to sigh and roll their eyes. « Think about it, a pandemic. You guys are vampires, apparently unpredictable and child-like vampires -not my words so don't murder me-, it's a disease- »

He was cut off by an angry Kol who flashed to the bar side of the parlor. « Do you need to also give your comedy tendencies to your fancied ones, brother? », he questions Finn with sarcasm dripping his voice.

« I sure missed your humor Kol. », Finn retorts with the same tone.

« Look, I might have an idea but I need to know more about what happened. », Bonnie butts in. Though the room turned silent and she could feel the tension rapidly filling it.

The three men in particular avoided her stares.

« To summarise everything. », Ayden starts with a serious tone. «  -I've been trying to keep up with the drama- Kol was in a forced coma because he couldn't keep the blood in his system. Mazikeen didn't know about it and found out a few hours ago and when she did, she fed him her blood which surprise: woke him up. But he- »

Seeing how unstable his brothers were becoming unstable and eye-murdering Ayden, Finn preferred stopping him before he spoke more. « I think that's enough, Frelsel mín. »

« I liked him better when he was scared. I have the means for that. », Klaus muttered not so low, sipping bourbon.

At the underlying threat, Ayden broke into a sweat, immediately calming down. « I-If you touch me i-i'll tell Mazikeen. », he uttered bravely to his best of ability in this situation.

'Ha! Two can play this game.', he cheered himself, happy he did the maths so quick, realizing she meant a lot to him and apparently to his other brother and the new guy. 'If my math teacher saw that I was so quick at putting two and two together he would give me a Nobel prize.'

Ayden snapped out of his happy moment when Klaus made it to vamp speed towards, however, thanks to his knight in shining armor, aka Finn, Klaus didn't reach his destination. So as to quit being under the hybrid's radar, he squared himself into the sofa while not so discreetly eating yet another bag of chips.

Though the once amused moment was cut by a voice that held guilt, catching everybody's attention. « I- I did the unthinkable. », it was Kol who spoke with his hand down on his forearms while leaning on the wall near the fireplace.

Not liking to see his brother in such a way, Elijah walked to him and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. « She is not dead brother and you know it. »

Only, Kol felt extremely guilty for the first time since he became a vampire, it was unbearable. « It is! I almost took her life when I promised her I would never hurt her! How can I face myself again! », he seethed against himself, shoving his brother's arm off himself before exiting the room.

Seeing where things were going, Finn chose to end the meeting. « Miss Bennett, thank you for coming on short notice. But I think it's time for you to leave, we will call you sometime later- »

« Actually, Finn, I think- I think now I know. It was right under our eyes for all this time. And I read it. »

« Would you mind developing Bennett witch or do you miss school that much that you're making us play the game of the teacher and the pupils ? », Klaus not so sarcastically says, finishing his drink.

« Gee, maybe Ayden is right, there's a pandemic: of sarcasm. », she retorts, with her hands on hips. « Anyways, there are these books. Two actually. »

Everyone in the room grew interested, even Damon. Though before Bonnie could say a word, the sound of glass breaking was heard followed by the screeching voice of Rebekah, surely yelling at the workers who were placing the Christmas decorations.

« Please, continue. », Elijah voices out after a minute clearly telling Bonnie to ignore the colorful words of his sister.

And she did. « That time when you contacted me to find out what was happening with Kol...I had already found something in a book around Qetsiya's era, more like before her birth. I didn't think of it until the apparition of the second book. Don't ask me, the way it appeared was weirder than being a witch itself. », she counters, stopping Damon from questioning her about the sudden appearance of the book.

« Anyway, but, with what you've just told me now, the fact that he drank Anastasia's blood, the starvation to coma and her blood being the only thing to wake him plus the appearance of the mars...I think- no it's all related to her. »

« Okay, I get what you mean but, why haven't you said anything sooner? », Damon wonders out loud sending an angry look Bonnie's way which she pretty much knew would receive.

Groaning, Bonnie, picked up her bag. « The two books, you, the marks, Mazikeen...all of this means something unbelievable. »

The vampires in the room frowned and exchanged wary looks.

« What could be crazier than them being 2000 years old and still looking 18. », Ayden says pointing to the culprits who gave him 'not now' looks. « Sorry, the pill is still stuck...in my esophagus. », he adds, dismissing the looks the vampires threw his way, Finn being the only ones amused despite the seriousness of the situation.

Despite the tug in his heart, and being the sarcastic vampire he was, Damon couldn't stop himself from teasing the oldest Mikaelson. « Where did you find him? I hope you threw rookie Sage away, the kid's funnier than she will ever be. »

Shaking his head, Elijah cleared his throat and swore he liked Finn when he was more sorrowful. « Disregarding the children in the room, miss Bennett you were saying? »

The said witch sighed, tired and done with everything. She knew what she was going to say would be considered too insane to be true but she knew it was the only explanation.

Without beating around the bush, Bonnie dropped the bomb.« The marks mean a Soulmate bond. »

The room welcomed an eerie silence where nothing, not even a breather could be heard. It was as if everybody became mannequins.

It would have continued like this for an hour if not for Ayden's amused voice filling the room. « When you said the Mikaelson's life was never easy I didn't believe you... Finnick, if your family were to ever make a tv show, you would cause the others to go bankrupt. »

Though the rest were still silent, everything he said fell deaf to their ears, but it didn't stop Ayden from talking again. « And with me being here...I'll be loaded. I'm happy I got thrown out of my parent's house and into your house! Keep going guys, money is time. »

« Ayden », Bonnie hissed.

Unfazed, Ayden frowned and ate yet another chip. « Oh, right. Soulmate you said? Scratch being loaded, I'll be the new Bill Gates. », then he too left the room, feeling that if he didn't, the original hybrid would rip his throat out...with his teeth.

At the thought Ayden shivered, hiding his neck with his hands while running to Rebekah, hoping she would hide him from Klaus.

__________

At night

Pacing in front of Ayden's room with the door half opened, Finn was wondering whether to enter or not. But with the urge to see him again, he walked inside, immediately finding the one he was looking for sitting on his bed, lost in thoughts.

« How do you feel? », he asks and whereas Finn thought he would have startled him, he was surprised when Ayden merely shrugged his shoulder a smile on his lips.

« So you finally decided to enter huh? I thought I was going to find a hole in front of the door tomorrow. », Ayden says chuckling at the end.

« Uh, sorry, I thought you wanted some alone time. », the original vampire explains, scratching the back of his head, embarrassed. « You still haven't answered. How do you feel about everything? Please no sarcasm, I think my ears have had enough for today. And let's not add that with my brothers being on edge you could really die. »

« Oh, thank you, Finnick the comedian. », Ayden laughed, watching Finn's embarrassed face again. He sighed, suddenly becoming serious. « I don't know Finn. All of this is new for me. You're telling me the girl who practically scooped me out of my barstool where I contemplated if it was better living in a box or a cult is dead? I mean half dead because she -maybe- came back from the dead to be undead. »

Ayden felt embarrassed as he was rambling but couldn't stop as it was the only way for him to tell how he felt. And by the look on Finn's face, he understood him. « If it were the 5-year-old me, rest assured I would be standing in front of you with holy water and a priest trying to exorcise you. I know one, by the way, he taught me Latin so I know exactly what to say. », he adds.

There was silence before they burst out laughing.

« I'm sorry, Frelsel mín, for-uh bringing you into all of this. I know you think it's not my fault but I still feel sorry- », he trails off and they stared into each other's eyes. « even though I don't want you away from me. »

« Stop. If I was given 10 dollars every time you've said sorry, it would add billions to my wealth once I start the 'keep up with the Mikaelsons'. », Ayden says cutting off the vampire. Only he chuckled, once realized he made yet another sarcastic remark.

« Right, this one's on me, sorry. Look Finn it's difficult alrigh'. I'm not used to your normal. No used to see people casually drinking blood as if it was coffee. It will take time to accept everything but I want to. And after my previous and first relationship, I see the differences and how all of this. », he points around the room at Finn and himself. « All of this is different, in a better-weird different. I guess what I'm trying to say -and that we both know is that- I don't want to leave...you. »

There was another silence in which they smiled, gazing into each other's eyes. Finn's thoughts were only filled with Ayden and how beautiful this human was. Everything went out of his mind, every problem were replaced by the man in front of him.

« Now can I have my 'it will all be fine' kiss? »

Different from the first time they secretly kissed at that club in New York, Finn didn't hesitate to slam his lips on Ayden's and locked him in place with his hands holding the human's neck. The kiss was rough but passionate, both of them pouring their longing and hidden love for each other.

It soon turned into something more and deeper as hard breathing, bed creaks were heard. Finn and Ayden were panting, sweat covering their bodies as they made love with all their might for the rest of the night.

I still suck at writing kissing scenes no matter the billions of sm-... I was about to expose myself.

Here is chapter 39, please comment on how you found this chapter. Personally, most of my favorite parts are on the next chapter and they would have been here BUT I can't post chapters that are too long. Entonces, here is this one and if by any luck I finalize the next chapter by tomorrow, I WILL post it.

What do you think of Bonnie's discovery?

Is it true/false? And how do our three fellow vampires take it?

How do you find Ayden?

And his relationship with Finn?
