"CROSS THE LINE SHITHEADS" Eleanor stood at the front of the crowd outside the circulation gates. "Hey where the hell you been?" Jack asked.
"Doin' a little business" she shrugged, waiting to see if any of the scabbers would join them.
"Alright, everyone remain calm." Davey nodded at jack. "Let's soak 'em for crutchy!" He yelled.
The newsies all ran through the gates, chasing the scabbers. The doors opened revealing an opposite mob.
"Oh, Jack! Jack, it's a trick!" Race yelled, the rest of the newsies attempting to run but were shut in by the gates.
"Hey! Mr newsman! Denton! Help!" Eleanor tried to pull the gates open. "Wait!" He yelled, holding his camera as he tried to push the gates open to let them out.
"Hey Jackie boy." Oscar backed him up. "Les! Go with Eleanor get out of here!" Davey yelled.
Ellie took the small boys hand and pulled him off to the sides. "Stay here" Eleanor told him as she ran back in and tried to fight back.
"Never fear Brooklyn is here" a familiar voice yelled over the shouts of scabbers and newsies.
"This is what you was doin'?" Jack asked. "Yup!" Ellie smiled, dodging a punch from Morris.
"It's Brooklyn!" Mush yelled.
The Brooklyn newsies aimed their catapults at the scabbers and began shooting rocks at their heads.
Spot smirked, nodding his head towards Eleanor as she smiled back at him, thanking him for coming. "Hey! That aint appropriate!" Eleanor turned around and slapped a guy who tried to pick her up.
Spot grabbed onto a hook and swung down, kicking two scabbers in the back. Jack and Spot spit shook as the brunette boy hugged ellie quickly.
"Thanks for comin' Spot" she smiled and leant back on both boys who held her up so she could kick two scabbers in the jaw.
Spot managed to pull the gates open and let the rest of the Brooklyn newsies in, spot pulling his cane out and hitting people with it.
Brooklyn and Manhattan newsies all crowded together, celebrating the fact they got all the scabbers away.
"Good thinkin' gorgeous" Jack wrapped an arm around Eleanor's waist as he cheered.
The nicknames. He needed to stop messing about with her feelings even if she denied them as much as she could.
"Thanks Kelly" she smiled.
Denton walked through the crowd, making it to the main group who were celebrating. "Jack! Boys, and lady, freeze!" Denton yelled.
The group continued laughing and smiling as they turned to Denton who got a picture of them all. Jack, Ellie, mush, David, Les, racetrack, boots, blink, spot, skittery, snipeshooter, bumlets, specs and pie-eater all made it in the front page of The World.
"Fellas, and Eleanor" Denton walked into the restaurant. "Hey Denton" she took her feet off of the table and sitting up from lying on Jack and Mush.
"Where's my picture?" Spot tried to push through. "There you idiot" Eleanor pointed.
"Where's me picture? Where's me picture?" Spot leaned over jack.
"Hey look at you jack you look like a general" mush laughed. "Get your fingers off my face" jack swatted his hand away.
"Where's me?" Eleanor looked at the picture. "Is you blind? You're right there" Race pointed. "Shut your trap, racetrack" she stuck her tongue out at him as he did the same.
"where does it say my name? Where's my name?" Spot questioned. "Will you quit thinkin' about yourself?" Jack nudged him away.
"Well you got us on the front page" Davey nodded. "Above the fold, that means it ain't shit news like the a house fire in The Bowery" Eleanor smiled up at Denton.
"You got yourselves on the front page. I just gotta make sure you stay there." He nodded.
"I wanna write a pape someday ..." Eleanor thought out-loud.
"See you keep sayin' that but youse not doin' nothing about it" jack turned to her. A few of the boys agreed with him.
"I ain't workin' for Pulitzer, plus nobody wants a girl as a writer." Eleanor sat back, knowing the questions that would come with being a female writer in the times they're in now.
"Then change it, not only stand up for the newsboys Union but make a womens right Union" Denton suggested.
"Oh, come on. Out of anyone you'd be the one to know that's a stupid idea, I'd get myself thrown in jail by the bulls and even Pulitzer himself." Eleanor sighed.
"Then don't, and get told you ain't allowed to be a writer. Youse gonna be the biggest writer in the world Ellie, you could start your own pape and we'd work for Ya" Jack looked at her.
She agreed to work with Denton and start writing papers, the boys looking for their names again.
"Getting your picture in the papes? What's that get you huh?" Skittery asked genuinely.
"Hey, what're you talkin' about huh?" Mush hit his shoulder. "You've been in a bad mood all day" jack complained, the fellas complaining too.
"You've been glum and dumb. What's the matter with you?" race slapped his cheek, "you're in the papes, you're famous! You're famous, you get anything you want! And that's what's so great about New York!"
"A pair of new shoes with matchin' laces." Mush sat back on a seat.
"A permanent box at the sheepshead races." Race punched his hand.
"A porcelain tub with boilin' water" Spot nodded at the thought.
"A Saturday night with Medda's daughter" blink got up on the table as Eleanor shook her head.
"Look at me, I'm the king of New York!" Race got on the opposite table and held a paper up. "Suddenly, I'm respectable. Starin' right at ya, lousy with stature."
"Nobbin' with all the muckety-mucks I'm blowing my dough and goin' delux." Jack grabbed the paper, lying back on a table and crossing his legs.
"Then there I be, ain't I pretty?" Race took the paper again.
"Its my city, I'm the king of New York!" Jack and race said together.
"A corduroy suit with fitted knickers" boots approved of his own words.
"A mezzanine seat to see the flickers" Les thought aloud.
"Havana cigars that cost a quarter." Snipeshooter taunted to himself.
"A printer for little miss medda's daughter" jack added, kissing Eleanor's cheek as he did.
"An editors desk for the star reporter!" Davey pushed a chair forward as Denton sat in it.
"Tip your hat, he's the king of New York!"
"How 'bout that, I'm the king of New York!" Denton took a chicken wing off of a plate that bumlets took away from him.
"I'm nothin' flat, he'll be covering Brooklyn to Trenton, our man Denton."
"Makin' a headline out of a hunch!" Blink stood on a chair
"Protecting the weak" Denton smiled as the newsies put a table cloth around him like a superhero cape.
"And payin' for lunch." Race added.
"When I'm at bat, strong men crumble."
"Proud yet humble."
"I'm the king of New York"
"He's the king of New York."
"Gotta be either dead or dreamin', cause look at that pape with my face beamin'. Tomorrow they may wrap fishes in it, but I was a star for one whole minute!"
Everyone got up, dancing on either the tables or floor or sitting and watching.
"Startin' now, I'm the king of New York!"
"Ain't you heard? I'm the king of New York!"
"Holy cow, it's a miracle."
"Pulitzers cryin'. Weasel? He's dyin'!" Eleanor added.
"Flash pots are shootin' bright as the sun, I'm one highfalutin' son of a gun."
"Don't ask me how fortune found me, fate just crowned me. Now I'm king of New York."
"Look and see, once a piker, now a striker, I'm the king of new York!"
"Victory, front page story!" Ellie watched and laughed at the boys.
"Guts and glory! I'm the king of New York!"
