"Each time my shoulder brushes yours, you'd feel it. Right here."

"I really really like you."
The moment the words left her lips, his head spun and he couldn't feel his legs.
Here he was, standing before her. Before her. And she was telling him that she likes him. She actually really liked him.
It was too good to be true. Too good to be true. How could someone so perfect see something likeable in him. In that moment, he wished to grab her in a kiss. Show everyone that she was his.
Her eyes were trained on the floor, a soft blush dusting her cheeks and she looked even more beautiful than ever. He reached forward to cup her cheeks but his hand hung in midair when he remembered.
Ladybug
He was in love with Ladybug.
He couldn't do this to her. He couldn't lead her on when he knew he couldn't give her his whole heart. Ladybug had the bigger part and it wasn't fair.
Marinette was pure, she had a heart of gold. She was too good for this world. No matter how much he wanted to selfish and reach out to her, he couldn't. His hands fell to his side and he hung his head. She deserved the world. Someone who would love her wholeheartedly and he wasn't that person.
She held her breath as his expression dropped, her mind drove into frenzy. How could she have been so stupid to do this? She shouldn't have listened to Alya. How could she imagine in a million years that Adrien would return her feelings? It was foolish.
"Marinette, I..."
Her feet moved back before she could stop them. "No, don't say anything. I'm so sorry, I shouldn't have..." Her words caught in her throat as she fought to hold back her tears. "I need to....I need to go." She choked out and took to her heels before her feet were too numb to move.
"Marinette, wait!" He called after but his car pulled up in front of school before he could follow her. He couldn't let her go. He wanted to be selfish. The pained look in her eyes broke him and he wanted to kick himself for being the reason.
The gorilla grunted as he was about to run after her. The door opened and he sighed in defeat. As he took the first step, it all dawned on him.
He had lost her.
Ladybug never loved him back and she made it painfully clear. But Marinette was real, she likes him, he liked her back and he just screwed it. "You do realize..." Plagg started but Adrien sighed interrupting him. "I know, I'm an idiot." He choked out as he tried to hold back from tears.
His sadness easily morphed to anger. Anger to himself. He'd been so stupid and now she'd never forgive him. He'd lost both her friendship and her love. It was over. His fencing class with Kagami ended quickly and he was grateful for that.
He rested against the locker and held the lucky charm Marinette had given him to his chest. He thought rejection from Ladybug was terrible enough, but what he felt.... What he felt was indescribable.
"Adrien, what's wrong? I don't enjoy beating you if you make it easy." He jolted up at her voice and he immediately cleared his throat, acting to be fine. But she saw right through. Up
"You look ridden. You know whatever's bothering you, you can talk to me." As soon as she said it, she caught sight of the string of beads he clutched in his grip. "So I'm guessing this has something to do with Marinette." He hung his head and sighed and she immediately understood.
"Don't ever hesitate, Adrien. You might be surprised what life has in store for you." He nodded in negation to her statement. "I messed up, Kagami. I screwed up terribly." He walked out before she had the chance to call him back.
"I don't get it. Why did you reject her if you like her?" Plagg asked seriously confused with Adrien. It was late already and he'd been sulking ever since. "I thought I loved Ladybug more. I'm...I'm such a fool." He banged his head against his table in anger. "I'm such a fool! How do I manage to ruin everything with my own hands." He snarled.
"Plagg, claws out!" He called out before he got the chance to complain.
He wanted to vent it all out. All his anger out on something. He called out his cataclysm and before he could stop himself, he took a poster down. Slamming his stick against it that it turned to dust.
He dropped to the ground and no matter how much he blew a fuse, it was inevitable. He'd lost her. Forever. And he wasn't getting her back.

She couldn't feel her feet. The image of the rejection in his eyes devastated her.
She shouldn't have. She could remember Alya's words from earlier.
"Marinette, it's best to let it out and just tell him. I know you feel something for Cat noir and if you want to at least get yourself out of this dilemma, you need to spill it to Adrien."
"Am not in a dilemma. I know I choose Adrien. It's just there's cat noir and..."
"Then tell Adrien. So if nothing comes out, you can turn to your one and only lovely partner."
She shouldn't have. She shouldn't have listened. The moment she saw the look in his eye, her throat ran dry. She fought back the tears but the moment she ran into her room, she broke into tears.
She never imagined it would feel so terrible. She wasn't good enough, she was stupid to do that. The dull ache in her chest was going nowhere. Everything felt so empty, her heart, everything.
The kwamis did their best to console her but she only transformed and ran. The breeze slapped against her cheeks as more tears stung her eyes.
She landed on the Eiffel tower. She wanted to scream into the air. Hoping that the pain she felt would go away. She slumped to the ground, feeling her heart shatter a million times more.
She swung back home and slumped on the balcony. "Spots off." Her knees were sprawled ok the floor and her eyes swollen. Tikki was extremely worried for her. Not only because the chances of her akumatization was high, but also because she cares deeply. Seeing her owner in such a state.
"Mari-" She held her hand up to stop Tikki from saying anything. Tikki sighed sadly and flew into the room.
"Shouldn't we do something?" Daizzi was worried as her sobs echoed into the room from the balcony. "What if she gets akumatized? We'll all be doomed." Ziggy also reiterated.
"She...she needs to be alone now." Tikki sighed sadly.
It stung badly but she felt numb outwardly. She sobbed loudly. She knew she looked terrible but she felt much worse.
A familiar surrounded her and for that single moment, her skin felt light. Her chest felt light, like a load was lifted from her.
"It's okay, I'm here." The pair of arms around her tightened their grip and she sighed into his chest.
She knew it was him, the sweet scent of leather laced with cologne and a tint of cheese. It was him, she knew. It was her kitty.
Her heart soared in his embrace, the warmth from his chest crept to her cheeks. She buried her face further into his chest and wrapped her hands around him as well. She didn't care why he was there, how he'd found her or why he saw the need to come to console her.
All that mattered to her was his warmth, his scent invading her senses, his soothing voice and how much comfort she was getting from him.
The sound of his ring beeping echoed in the air. She gripped him tighter instinctively. "I'm not going anywhere."
He looked down at his ring. Four pads more meaning four minutes. He regretted using his cataclysm. He had heard her loud sobs and immediately his heart tore at the sight. He was the one who'd done that to her.
As Catnoir, he wasn't close to her. Even since the akumatization of her father, he hadn't come across her and he didn't think to the fact that she could push him away for hugging her as a stranger. He only wanted to comfort her, and try to help both their broken hearts.
He gave her time letting her sobs die down till it was complete silence but the soft breeze tickling both their skin.
His ring beeped, two pads. "Please don't go." She knew she sounded pathetic begging him to stay but she needed him. She was glad he didn't find her wierd for holding on to him since they weren't close as her civilian form.
"I wouldn't dare. I'm not going anywhere." He ran his fingers softly through her hair, the effect calming her. He loved the feeling of having her close. Especially after thinking he'd lost her forever.
