Jumping to next Wednesday, the clouds blocked the sun at 5:00 this evening. But that didn't damped Becca's mood at she took her suitcase out of her car and closed the door. As she walked towards the entrance of the Capital Wrestling Center, Mackenzie Mitchell approached with a mic in her hand.
"What's up Mackenzie," Becca greeted while stopping for Mackenzie.
"Hey Becca, you seem to be in a good today," Mackenzie commented about Becca.
"Well Mackenzie, when you just make a statement like I have and haven't even wrestled a match yet, you tend to be in high spirits," Becca said with a large smile on her face.
"So you believe that you are fully prepared to face Dakota Kai tonight?" Mackenzie questioned.
"Or course," Becca replied. "Listen, Dakota may be great in the ring, but every time she gets handed an opportunity to prove herself, she drops the ball. And that precisely what she'll do tonight."
"One more question before you go. Last week, William Regal made the huge announcement of the first ever Dusty Rhodes Women's Tag Team Classic," Mackenzie reminded. "Four teams have already been announced and there are still room for more? Do you plan on joining the tournament?"
"Hell yeah I am," Becca said excitedly. "I arrived in NXT at just the right time. I get to be apart of something tremendously historical. The only problem for me is finding a partner. I did just get here and no one has seen me in action yet. But I'm sure there'll be a line of women ready to team with me after my showcase against Dakota."
"Well thanks for your time Becca, and good luck with your match later tonight," Mackenzie said. Becca then entered the Capital Wrestling Center, with a fresh mindset for the night. A few minutes before the show started, Becca heard a knock on her locker room door. She got up and opened it. Surprisingly, she was greeted by a team instead of one person. She was standing in front of Team Ninja, which consisted of Kacy Catanzaro and Kayden Carter.
"Yo, it's Team Ninja," Becca said welcoming them in.
"It's nice to meet you too Becca," Kacy said.
"So, what's poppin'," Becca asked.
"We just wanted to give you an actual welcome to NXT," Kayden said. "Raquel didn't really do a good job last week, so we decided to do it properly." Kayden and Kacy held out their hands and Becca shook them without hesitation.
"Looking forward to being friends with you two," Becca said happily. "Anything you guys wanna talk about?"
"Uh, yeah," Kacy said. "About the Women's Dusty Cup, no hard feelings if you end up facing us right. All in good sport?" Kacy looked at Becca for confirmation.
"Of course ladies," Becca said nodding her head. "I understand that you guys feel under appreciated as a team, so I plan to stay out of your way as much as I can. If you don't come for me, I won't come for you. Deal?"
"Deal," they both said in unison. "Do you have any idea who your partner is gonna be?," Kacy asked.
"Couldn't tell you Kacy," Becca said shaking her head. "I did just get here and I'm not sure anyone would be comfortable teaming with a complete stranger."
"Well maybe you've gotten some points by socking Raquel last week," Kayden suggested. "Not everyone is the biggest fan of her. So you might find solace in her enemies."
"That ain't a bad idea Kayden," Becca said. "I'll definitely look into that. Anything else."
"Nope, that's all from us," Kacy said. "Good luck against Dakota later." Team Ninja then made their way out the room.
"Take care mates," Becca said as the door closed. Becca then left a little bit after that so she could try looking for a partner for the tournament. She tried Xia Li but it seemed that Xia was too afraid to talk to her, so she moved on. Scarlett said she was too busy with Karrion Kross to help her, which was unfortunate. While traversing backstage, a lightbulb went off in Becca's head. She'll just go talk to Mr. Regal to see anyone could be her partner. She immediately sped to Mr. Regal's office and arrived within a minute or two. She then knocked with a distinct knock that only she did.
"Mr. Regal?" Becca called out. The office door opened and out stepped William Regal himself.
"Ah, hello Becca," he said smiling. "How's my new signee doing?"
"Pretty good so far, Mr. Regal," Becca answered. "But I do have a bit of dilemma right now."
"And what's that?" he ask.
"I can't seem to find a partner for the Women's Dusty Cup," Becca started. "It seems that everyone is busy or some other reason. Do you know if anyone is available? I don't want to miss out on this historic opportunity, so could ya help me out." Mr. Regal put his hand to his chin, thinking of who could be a good partner for Becca.
"I've got it," he said snapping his fingers. "I know who can be your partner."
"Aw yeah," Becca cheered excitedly.
"But on one condition," he said interrupting Becca's celebration. Becca stopped jumping up and down and resumed a calm manner.
"What's the catch chief," Becca questioned.
"I'll only assign you this partner if you beat Dakota Kai later on tonight," he explained. "If you can't be her, then you'll have to find your own partner. Understood?"
"Understood," Becca said nodding her head. "Thanks boss, you're the best." Becca waved to Mr. Regal as she made her way to leave.
"Also Becca," Mr. Regal called before she left. Becca stopped in the door way and turned back to him. "From one Brit to another, good luck."
"Thanks Mr. Regal," Becca said leaving his office. Some more things happen throughout the show until it's time for the second to last match of the evening. Becca was backstage jumping in place and rolling her shoulders. She looked ready to go. She began walking towards the curtain and reached it. She was meant to go out first but she froze up. She's never felt like this before but for some reason she couldn't leave the backstage.
"Oi, what's up with you," Becca heard a voice behind her say. Becca turned her head and found her opponent tonight Dakota Kai herself. "Got your nerves in a twist on your first night? I knew all that confidence was hot air. You're really are just a newbie."
Realizing that she was being called out Becca snapped out of her trance. "Listen, this may be the first time I've ever walked out onto a WWE wrestling stage but this is by no means my first fight," Becca said stepping to Dakota. "I am by no means backing down from you, because I will still go out there and kick your ass."
"Oh really now," Dakota said not backing down. "You'll see how wrong you are when I kick your kick your head off your shoulders and have you laid out for the 1,2,3." Dakota aggressively pushed passed Becca and move through the curtain. "Now watch how a real professional does it. Not that you will ever do anything as good." Becca's fists balled up as Dakota left the backstage area and moved to the stage.
"Aussie prick," Becca mumbled to herself as she watched Dakota make her way down the entrance ramp and into the ring. After Dakota was finished her entrance Becca was still trying to psyche herself up to go out onto the stage.
"Mama always said if you mess up, mess up proudly. Back to our regularly schedule program." Becca rolled her shoulders and punched the air a couple of times. It's show time," she said walking through the curtain. A familiar song to Becca known as: Blackout played as she hustled up the stairs and walked out onto the stage. The crowd cheered as Becca walked to the center of the stage and stopped. She looked at all sides of the arena and shook her head. She did a spin and touched the ground before raising herself and holding out her arms. After striking her pose she began to descend the ramp.
"And her opponent," Alicia Warrington began as she walked. "From Blackpool, England; Beautiful Bruiser, Becca Evans!" Becca climbed the steel steps attached to the ring and grabbed the ropes. She jumped and slung herself inside. When she landed she grabbed her hat and tossed it into the crowd for a lucky fan. She then walked into the corner opposite of her opponent. She took off her shirt and tossed it for another lucky fan. After some small stretching on the ropes close to the corner, she heard the bell ring.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this match is under way," Vic Joseph said.
"Yeah and it's shaping up to be a blockbuster as these two women circle the ring," Wade Barrett added.
"And the NXT universe has waited a week for these two to throw down," Vic reminded. "Last week Becca Evans called out Raquel González and Dakota Kai and now we get to see if Evans can back up her talk," he continued as the two women locked up in a collar and elbow tie up. Becca began to overpower Dakota, pushing her back into the corner. "Evans starting off early, overpowering Kai." With Becca trapping Dakota in the corner the ref started bro get between them and pulled them apart. As soon as the ref was able to pull them apart, Dakota gave Becca a slap across the face. Before Becca could rush back in and rip into Dakota, the ref stoped her.
"What a cheap shot by Dakota Kai," Beth Phoenix said.
"It wasn't a cheap shot Beth," Wade argued. "It was simply Kai using a given opportunity. If anything, Evans needs to keep her temper in check or Kai will be in control the whole match." Now that Kai was out of the corner, her and Becca locked up again. Dakota quickly gaining the upper hand as she held Becca in a standing side headlock. Dakota taunted the crowd as she held Becca's head and wrenched it around.
"Dakota Kai just having a good old time messing around tonight," Beth acknowledges.
"Well Beth, when you are a wrestling machine like Dakota Kai, you tend to be pretty confident," Vic says. "But Kai has to careful not to be overconfident or we might get an upset tonight." Dakota threw Becca towards the ropes, getting her to rebound off of them and come back right into a clothesline. Dakota went for a cover but only ended up getting a one count. She should knew that it won't be that easy. Dakota slapped on another headlock as Becca sat up. After being in the annoying hold for a few seconds, Becca started to pick herself up and give Dakota a few blows to the abdomen. Dakota decided to send Becca into the ropes again. As Becca came back from the ropes, Dakota went for a bicycle kick but she gets caught by Becca.
"Look a Becca Evans showing some awareness," Beth said being impressed.
"Yeah, denying some of Dakota Kai's typical offense," Vic added as Becca looked around the arena and shook her head. She brought Dakota's leg onto her shoulder and lifted her into a counter power bomb. Becca grabbed her legs after her bad landing and swung them so she was in a perfect position. "Evans looking to go for something big." With a running start, Becca connected with a senton. With momentum on her side Becca climbed to the second rope of the nearest corner and waited with anticipation.
"What's Evans got planned here," Wade questioned as Dakota got to her feet. With a leap, Becca grabbed Dakota's head and brought it and the rest of her down to the mat.
"What a blockbuster by Evans," Vic commended. Becca goes for the cover but barely gets a two count. "Though it's not enough to keep Kai down." Becca got to her feet and started to bring Dakota to her feet as well. Becca struck with some forearm strikes before giving and audible war cry and going for a discus clothesline. After her spin she unfortunately missed as Dakota ducked grabbed her waist and sent her flying with a German suplex. Becca rolled to the apron and started to use the ropes to pull herself up.
"Nice german suplex by Kai, but how is she gonna follow it up," Beth inquired as Dakota got to her feet and was hyping herself to attack Becca. She sprinted to the ropes behind her and used them to help pick up speed as she ran towards Becca. It looked like she was going directly for Becca but Dakota slide under the bottom rope putting herself on the outside of the ring. She then went to bring Becca down by chopping at her legs but Becca jumped over the chop and as Dakota was looking to attack again she caught her with a super kick.
"Oh, brutal super kick by Evans," Vic noted. "And I don't think she's done yet," he continued as Becca ran to the opposite post of the apron. She ran in Dakota's direction and came down from the apron with a clothesline for Dakota. "Wicked clothesline from Becca Evans!" Becca immediately got up making gestures for the crowd to get louder. She grabbed Dakota and tossed her into the ring. Becca believed it was time to fly as she started climbing to the top rope. As she made her way up, Dakota got to her feet. Becca had just steady herself as Dakota came in with a forearm to the head, much to the disappointment of the crowd.
"Dakota Kai being incredibly aware of the situation and denying Evans the opportunity to fly," Wade said as Dakota started climbing the ropes with Becca.
"Dakota Kai might be looking to go for a superplex," Beth speculated as Dakota's feet rose to the second rope. Becca was quick to stop what was about to happen and gave some jabs to Dakota which caused her to fall off the ropes. Becca slowly began to steady herself on the top rope again but Dakota was too quick and caught her with a springboard enziguri. Becca was visibly stunned as she fell back down to the mat. Dakota dragged her away from the ropes and went for the pin. "Is Kai gonna get it? One...two...oh, not quite."
"Becca Evans still has some fight let in her," Beth says. "She wants to make the biggest impact she can in her NXT debut, and she can do that if she just fights on." Becca slowly got to her feet and got nailed with a forearm from Dakota. She immediately responded with a chop to the chest. Dakota came back with a chop of her own. Becca held her chest before coming back with another chop. Dakota recoiled before delivering a jab to Becca. Becca came back with her own jab. Both women started to tee off, delivering jab after jab.
"Look at these two go at it, it's amazing," Wade said chuckling.
"Neither woman backing down from the other," Beth spoke . "Both looking to prove themselves to be the better competitor tonight." Becca got caught flush with an elbow from Dakota. Becca gave an audible yell as she went to bounce of the ropes but got caught with another elbow from Dakota. Instead of being knocked down, Becca retaliated with kick to the head. Dakota herself came back with a step-up enziguri. Becca's upper body flopped after the enziguri. Dakota came over to her as Becca sprung to life and nailed her with jumping knee strike. Dakota backed up a little and nailed Becca with a bicycle kick. That kick only fired up Becca as she roared with hype and got hit with another kick. Becca turned back, rotated, and came back with a step-up enziguri of her own. Both women fell over, exhausted by they're exchange.
"You've got to be kidding me," Vic said amazed by the two women in the ring.
"What an amazing exchange of strikes and blows by these two women," Wade complimented.
The crowd was going crazy with cheers. "NXT! NXT! NXT! NXT!" they cheered for the two women. The ref started to count for both women as they were both down.
"One...two...three...four...five..." she counted as both women crawled to opposite corners and pulled themselves up using the ropes.
"This looks to be the final act of the match between these two women," Wade observed. "Which one will put the final nail in the coffin?"
"You're guess is as good as mine Wade," Beth said as both competitors rose to their feet. Dakota looked to be the aggressive one by power walking over to Becca and pulling her out of the corner. Dakota nailed Becca with an elbow to the back of the head. She then went for a chop but Becca got her arms up to block it and immediately replied a kick to the gut. Becca ran for the ropes behind her but ran back into gut kick herself. Dakota ran to the ropes and jumped on top of Becca, putting her knees on her back and leaning forward. Letting her momentum carry her and pulling Becca backwards until Becca came crashing down on to Dakota's knees.
"Kairopractor, by Kai!" Vic exclaimed.
"That's gotta be enough," Wade said as Dakota covered Becca. One, two, before three could be counted, Becca tossed her shoulder up.
"Evans kicks out with pure instinct and continues to fight on," Vic says as the crowd cheered for Becca and her resilience. Dakota was getting fed up with her opponent's refusal to stay down, so she wanted to end it. Dakota waited patiently as Becca slowly rose to her feet. The moment she was up, Dakota hoisted her up into a fireman's carry.
"Kai looking to end it with the 'Go to Kick'," Beth said. Becca, realizing that she was in a peril, gave Dakota some sharp elbows to the face in order to fight out of the fireman's carry. Dakota had no choice but to let Beeca out of the carry. But not wanting to let up, she went to Becca and grabbed her by the head. She started to yell at Beeca, 'I'm better than you'. This fired Becca up as she broke the grip Dakota had and clocked her with a spinning back fist. Dakota turned to hold her jaw which gave Becca a great opportunity. Becca put her head under Dakota's arm and lifted her while turning her for a sit-out power bomb.
"What an amazing combination by Evans," Wade complemented. "Evans looking to close this one out with something big." Becca ran her hands through her hair as Dakota stumbled to her feet. With her back towards her, Becca used her left hand to grab Dakota's right. She quickly spun Dakota around and nailed her with a knee strike.
"Ripcord knee strike by Evans!" Vic exclaimed as Becca quickly went for the pin. "That's gotta be it."
"One...two...three!" the referee counted. A good portion of the crowd counted as well and nearly all exploded into cheers after the ref slammed her hand on the mat to end the match.
"She did it, she did it," Beth cheered as Becca rushed the corner and celebrated. "What an amazing debut from Becca Evans!"
"I will not deny, NXT just witness the start of an amazing career," Wade said. "Becca Evans started with this amazing victory over Dakota Kai, and it only get better if she continues to put on performances like this." Becca continued to celebrate in the ring until she saw Dakota holding her face and leaning on the turnbuckle. Becca went over to her opponent and offered her hand as a sign of respect. Dakota looked at Becca, and she couldn't tell if she was angry for losing or surprised that she lost. Dakota had to admit that Becca was good but that didn't mean she wanted anything to do with her. Dakota ignored Becca and walked passed her and exited the ring. Becca was a little sadden that they couldn't make up for their encounter they had before the match but her mindset was completely shifted when she heard someone else's entrance interrupt her own. The music signaled the arrival of Raquel González. Becca turned her attention towards the entrance ramp as 'Big Mama Cool' came out from backstage.
"Oh boy, here comes trouble," Vic said as Raquel made her way to the ring. Becca; not willing to backdown glared at Raquel as she continued her way down the entrance ramp. Raquel climbed the apron and stared with fury at Becca who was not intimidated in the slightest. She slapped the mat of the ring and motioned for Raquel get in the ring, not scared of another fight. Raquel looked as if she was about to enter the ring but she was interrupted.
"I believe now would be a good time to intervene," William Regal's voice rang out from the Titantron and getting the attention of everyone in the arena. "Now Raquel, before you do anything drastic, I would like to speak to Becca." Raquel kept the mean look on her face but moved back so Becca could see the big screen better. "Now Becca, since you've defeated Dakota Kai in your first match here in NXT. I feel compelled to reward you. As promised I went through the trouble of finding you a partner for the Women's Dusty Cup. This might come as a shock, but you will be teaming with 'Big Mama Cool' herself, Raquel González." There were many audible oh's and aw's at this huge announcement. Raquel lowered her head and gripped the ropes with a mixture of agitation and inability to process what she just heard. Becca was just looking around the arena with a shocked expression but smiled internally.
"This is simply astonishing," Beth said still surprised. "Is it even gonna be possible for these two to be a team after what happened last week."
"Well look at it this way Beth," Wade began. "They may hate each other now, but both these women have a lot of talent separately and if they can somehow get on the same page, they'll have an astronomical amount of talent that can push them through the entire tournament."
"I have to agree with you Wade," Vic says. "When you're trying to make history, you tend to forget any past grudges you may have had in the heat of the moment." Raquel let go of the ropes and turned her attention back to Becca. Becca also refocused on Raquel.
"And as a way to showcase what kind of talent we have in our women's tag team division, Becca will be teaming with Dakota Kai on Friday during 205 Live to take on Candice LeRae and Mercedes Martinez," Mr. Regal continued. "Think of it as a Women's Dusty Cup exhibition match." This is put another shocked face on Becca's face but it quickly disappeared as Raquel stepped inside the ring and was looking as mean as ever. Raquel aggressive marched towards Becca and Becca stood her ground. The crowd was growing louder and louder with anticipation up as both women were in an intense stare down. A couple of referees came down the entrance ramp and proceeded to enter the ring and make space between the two superstars.
After a few minutes of what felt like trying to diffuse a bomb, Becca found herself in her locker room; packing up her stuff so she can go ahead and leave the arena. Everything was where it should be and she was ready to leave. She walked to her car and put her suitcase in the trunk. Right as she got in the front seat her phone buzzed. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and saw that Kayden Carter texted her. She opens the message and reads it:
Hey new friend of mine. Me and Kacy wanted to say congrats on your first win. Also congrats on joining the Dusty Cup. Looks like we're in the same bracket, so when push comes to shove; you better bring your a-game. Other than that, you might want to take a look at this and see what your partner thinks of you. See ya next week.
Becca looked at the video link. It was a YouTube video from WWE's official channel. The video was titled: Raquel González really thinks of her new 'partner'. Intrigued, she clicked on the video and began to watch the video. The video started with Mackenzie trying to catch up to a power marching Raquel as she was about to leave the arena.
"Raquel, Raquel!" Mackenzie exclaimed getting Raquel to stop. She turned to the rushing Mackenzie as she approached.
"Make it quick Mackenzie," Raquel said sternly as Mackenzie arrived with microphone in hand. "I'm not in a mood to talk much."
"Okay okay," Mackenzie said breathing in. "A bombshell was just dropped on us earlier when it was revealed that Becca Evans will be your partner for the Women's Dusty Cup. The NXT Universe wanted to know what your opinion is on this situation."
"My opinion? I've only got one opinion," Raquel said sternly with her face in a frown. "I don't care that Becca has become my partner and I don't care that she beat Dakota. The reason I'm pissed is because she's taking my rightful spotlight. She comes onto the show that I made rightfully mine and immediately begins to take away from the person who's been here for more than a week and busting their ass to be the best. It's something I'm entitled to!"
"W-well regardless of opinions," Mackenzie said a little intimidated by Raquel's tone. "Becca Evans will be your partner for the Women's Dusty Cup. Will you be able to advance through the tournament and become the first ever winners of the Women's Dusty Cup?"
"Forget Becca Evans," Raquel said sternly. "She's just another obstacle on my path to greatness. And if I have to bulldoze my so called 'partner', then so be it." Raquel then walked away from Mackenzie and the video ended. Becca turned off her phone with a big smile on her face. She put her phone on her dashboard on turned on her car.
"I couldn't have asked for a better way to start to my time in NXT," she said beginning to drive away from the arena.
