~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
Melina looked down at her watch as she stood on the subway. She had fifteen more minutes to get to her place before Louis would Skype her. She looked up just in time to not be whacked by a dozen pink roses as a random person passed her.
Rubbing her face slightly she just shook her head. As the doors opened for her stop, she walked off as fast as she could because she already knew she was most likely going to be late and she could already imagine how petulant and offended Louis would be.
~~~
"You're late."
Melina bit her lip as she tried to smile.
Louis though still had his dour expression on.
Rolling her eyes slightly, Melina just shook her head at him. "Happy Valentine's day Louis."
Smiling at last, Louis sat up a little as he said the same. "Happy Valentine's day to you too Melina. I love you." He grinned extra wide.
"Thanks," She said as she opened her mail to check her emails.
"Melina!' Louis yelled.
Glancing at the corner of her screen, Melina gave him a look. "Give me a second I'm looking at my work schedule for the two weeks."
Resting his cheek on his knuckles, Louis was highly unamused. "You do know its Valentine's day right?"
"Of course I know. There were so many couples at work today and then there were pink and red balloons all over campus too." Melina said as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "I love you too Louis," She said as she smiled, looking up at him.
"You," Louis said as he raised his brows in annoyance. "So how was your day?" He sighed at last.
"Good..."
~~~
Melina rested her elbow on her counter, her three fingers covering her lips as she tried not to laugh when Louis described the latest antics they did on some British talk show. Her dinner abandoned before her as she and Louis were about to run into an hour on their Skype date. With the lights off and candles lit, it was as close to a candlelight dinner as they were getting on the day of love.
"They love us," Louis grinned just as there was a pounding on Melina's door. "What was that?" Louis asked.
Melina whirled around as she went to look at her door. "My door, I wonder who it is at this time?" She asked as most of her family and friends would send her a text message at least, before they came over.
"Melina I know you're home!" Some slurred voice yelled.
Melina's expression fell to be replaced with one of aggravation. She recognized the voice even with its druken slur. What the hell was Rob doing here?
"Melina?" Louis asked but Melina still wasn't turning around.
"I'm not leavin til we talk."
"What is that idiot doing here!" Melina groaned before telling Louis she would be right back.
"What the hell! Melina! Melina what's going on?" Louis yelled when he saw Melina come back into view with a baseball bat in hand.
Melina knew she was probably being slightly paranoid but she did not want to deal with Rob especially if he was as drunk as he sounded, plus she just liked having her bat, it was a bit of a comfort. What was he seriously doing at her door? He had to know it was long over especially now as she and Louis were as official as it got meaning that she still got stupid reporters on dull days stalking her. Her bat by her side, she flicked the lights back on as she opened her door cautiously.
"Melina tell me what's going on! Melina Hanas if you don't say anything I'm buying a plane ticket now to- What! What the hell is he doing there?"
Melina didn't even dare blink when she was engulfed in a hug by her ex. Oh this wasn't going to end up well.
"What the hell is that tosser doing there?!" Louis yelled as he saw the hug. "Use that bat!" He yelled more invested than ever into the scene as he saw red. How dare that idiot touch his girlfriend! He didn't even care as Zayn stood behind him to watch the spectacle. "What the hell, is that tosser drunk?!" Louis yelled more zealous than ever as he watched in frustration that he was only able to be a spectator.
"I'm so sorry. You know I never-"
Melina really didn't know what to say when her ex-boyfriend began to sob in her arms. Oh man, the idiot was drunk, so drunk.
"Remember last Valentine's day?" Rob asked, standing right back up, his fingers clutching her arms, his bloodshot red eyes boring into her grey ones.
"What?! What happened last-" Louis didn't finish as he watched practically in slow motion as the tosser almost fell over Melina but was caught just in time.
"FML." Melina mumbled as she tried to hold up her six something ex before he literally crushed her under his weight. She could already imagine the earful she would hear from Louis, but she couldn't just leave the inebriated idiot on her doorstep. With much effort and strain, she was able to deposit him on her couch.
"Melina Hanas I'm booking tickets right now!"
"FML!" Melina yelled this time as she threw her hands up in the air in frustration. "Louis Tomlinson stop being a drama queen, give me a minute to think!"
"What is he doing there! And what about last year?! Tell me!" Louis demanded, rather on a roll now.
Standing in front of her computer, Melina glared, her hands on her hips. "Last year doesn't matter and I don't know, he just passed out! Now calm down and exit out of whatever airline site you're on! Don't you have some promotion thing in a few days?" She asked before blowing out the candles.
Louis opened and closed his mouth before settling with a glare himself.
Getting her cell phone, Melina didn't look away as Louis crossed his arms, waiting for her next move.
"Lina this is a bit of a-"
"Rob is passed out drunk on my couch." Melina quickly replied, cutting him off.
"What?" Kent asked. "Rob?" He asked once more in disbelief. "Well it is Valentine's day, I guess the idiot got sentimental... Eva and I will be right over."
"Thank you."
"Does Louis know?" Kent asked curiously.
"He watched the whole thing on skype." Melina sighed as Louis looked up, knowing they were talking about him.
Not being able to help himself, Kent laughed. "Okay we'll be right there."
"Now you want to tell me what happened last year?" Louis asked expectantly, raising a brow at her.
"If you want to tell me what happened with you last year." Melina crossed her arms, holding her cell phone loosely in her right hand, challenging him.
Louis made a face, his brows furrowing. "Eh, okay, I'll let it go this time. But I'm not leaving until he goes!"
"Wouldn't have expected less," Melina said as she laughed lightly, looking over she glanced wearily over at her drunken ex. Swinging her bat over her shoulder, she sighed. Why was her life some bad soap opera sometimes?
"I still wish you would have used the bat." Louis interjected.
"Louis!"
"Serve him right, how dare he hug you." Louis said with a glare.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
Melina shook her head in response to Louis' question despite the fact that she was on the phone and he couldn't see her.
"Melina," Louis pleaded. "Oh come on, you're my girlfriend! Remember!"
"Louis, I just, I." Melina huffed as she glanced around the locker room of her workplace as if it would give her a good excuse. "Do I have to?"
"Yes!" Louis responded quickly. "Don't make me tell your mother that you won't be my date to the awards show!"
"Louis Tomlinson!" Melina exclaimed. "Don't you throw my mother in this, you know I just don't like pictures taken of me," Melina scrunched her nose in distaste.
"I haven't seen you since early February!" Louis exclaimed. "I miss you," He said softer this time.
"I miss you too," Melina said as she rubbed her neck. Sighing, she closed her eyes before whispering she'd go.
~~~
“But Liam,” Jolie looked up from her textbook on her lap.
“Please come on, be my date please?” Liam asked as he tapped her leg that was on his lap, the two of them in hiding out in her dorm room.
Jolie bit her lip as she didn’t want to reject Liam but she wasn’t quite sure if being his date to the awards were exactly the best idea. Liam’s fans didn’t outright dislike her but that was mostly because none of them knew her! She didn’t have a twitter or anything else for social networking. She’d gotten rid of her facebook after graduation when she hadn’t been on in so long that she’d forgotten her password. “Louis is flying Melina in town to attend too.”
Jolie bit her lip then offered a small smile. “Okay,”
The broad grin that spread across Liam’s face told her that she was definitely making the right decision…
"It's tomorrow." Liam tried to say it offhandedly.
"What?" Jolie asked sitting right up. "I don't even have a dress or anything, Liam." She said looking over at him.
He shrugged innocently. "I knew if I gave you too much time to think, you'd back out. But you and Melina can go shopping tomorrow." He offered. "My treat?" He smiled widely.
"No," Jolie simply said before getting off his lap. "I can buy my own dress, but..." She began worriedly.
Shaking his head, Liam quickly wrapped his arms back around her waist and pulled her towards him to kiss her worry away.
~~~
Hands in the pocket of his jeans, Louis shuffled impatiently as he stared at the digital board that said that Melina's flight had landed. Sitting down at a random bench at the airport, he took out his cell phone to text her.
However as he was about to hit send, a pair of hands covered his eyes. His neck was tickled as a long strands of hair brushed his exposed neck. "Guess who?" The voice whispered in his ear.
Louis' security looked away giving them a sense of privacy.
A cheek to cheek smile spread over his lips as he knew exactly who it was. "Jenny?" He asked somehow smiling even wider when he heard his girlfriend mutter his full name in annoyance. "Emma?" He tried once more, rattling off random names he could come up with. Before his girlfriend could pull her hands away, he grabbed them and pulled them towards him. He quickly kissed her left hand before pulling her arms around his neck so he could look back at her. "Hi," He looked up, his sapphire eyes full of mirth. Leaning down, Melina smiled as she said hi back before leaning down to quickly kiss him.
~~~
"How was your flight?" Louis asked as he got into the van after her.
"Short," Melina said as she took out her cell phone this time to text her Mom and Eva that she had met up with Louis.
"Well, are you hungry?" Louis asked.
"Will Niall be there if I say yes?" Melina asked looking over at him.
"Niall?!" Louis exclaimed.
"I miss him!" Melina defended herself.
Louis' eye twitched just a little before he lightly grasped her jaw to pull her into a searing kiss.
~~~
“Liam your girlfriend just stole mine!” Louis said coming up to him.
“What?” Liam looked up.
Louis crossed his arms as he pointed to the corner where both girls could be seen.
Niall who was beside Liam, could only laugh at the two females. Ha, serve them right when he was all by himself!
~~~
“Thank you for that,” Melina said as she and Jolie stayed in the corner of the red carpet avoiding reporters and peering eyes from all sides.
“Actually my act wasn’t pure altruism. Liam’s ex is here and I really don’t want to-” As Liam's ex was indeed part of the huge broadway-esq opening act.
“Rub it in her face?” Melina asked.
“In short words, yes,” Jolie sighed.
“Well we can have our own fun called dodge the boys, speaking of which, we’re starting right now!” Melina said before taking Jolie’s arm to grab her towards the opposite direction.
Jolie laughed but didn’t fight her.
~~~
“You two are terrible,” Liam said laughing as he took off his tie and joined Jolie on the couch.
“Sorry,” Jolie said though not really telling the truth. It really had been fun wandering the carpet with Melina, they’d been able to see all sorts of celebrities and just talk without caring about people furiously taking pictures of them. While several had taken pictures, the girls were not quite known and relatively ignored.
"How was the night?" Lena asked, coming out in pajamas to join them.
~~~
"I know it was you," Louis accused as Melina got out of the shower. "No fair!" He exclaimed when he realized that Melina was wearing his shirt so it was much harder for him to stay mad.
"I like her, she's really neat and scary smart." Melina just went on, ignoring him as she took a seat on the bed. "And so down to earth."
Rolling his eyes at Melina ignoring him, he sat on the bed too. Quickly wrapping his arms around her, he fell back on the bed, taking her with him. "Melina Hanas. I rather be doing other things than talking about my mate's girlfriend after not seeing you for a month."
"Let's play poker! I'm running out of spending money after buying my books for school."
Louis groaned before grinning wickedly. "Strip poker?" He suggested only to get hit in the arm. Laughing, he loosened his hold so she could turn around in his arms to face him.
"Really," She huffed at him.
"I," Louis pecked her lips. "Love" he did so once more. "You," he punctuated with a deep kiss this time as she molded into his arms.
~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.
Getting out of the taxi, Louis looked around. It was past midnight and the street had a nice orange glow to it from the street lamps, yet in the distance one could hear cars passing by. The weather was crisp even in mid May. It was nice to be back in Chicago. And it had been too long since he last saw his girl friend in person. A little over a month since she met him in New York for an awards show. "Keep the change." He said, grinning as he gave the cabbie a fifty. Swinging his backpack over his shoulder and taking his small roller bag, he headed to the steps.
Taking out his own key that Melina with her roommate, Melanie's permission, Louis had been given. He used it to open the door in order to enter. Dropping his roller bag just under the counter and out of the way, he made his way as quietly as possible into Melina's room.
After taking off his sweats and sweater, leaving him in a pair of boxers and his shirt, his eyes finally adjusted to the dark. Trying not to make noise as he took off his shirt, yet failing when he literally tripped over a notebook as he didn't see it. "Whoa!" He said falling on his bum.
Sitting up straight, Melina immediately turned on her lights then picked up the baseball bat that she kept on the side of her bed. As she held it up high, she blinked when she saw Louis halfway shirtless on the floor. "Louis?"
Wincing, he looked up at her before gingerly getting up. Rubbing his bum, he sheepishly said hi.
With a laughing sigh, Melina lowered her bat before looking at her clock. It was three in the morning. Only Louis...
"Melina!" Melanie, Melina's blonde haired roommate came barging in with her tazer just as Louis climbed into bed with Melina.
"Huh?" She stood there dumbfounded. "Um hi." She said meeting Louis Tomlinson for the first time, whilst he was in his boxers and climbing into bed with her roommate.
"Hello?" Louis awkwardly greeted.
"Um, I'm going, I'm going back to bed. See you tomorrow." Melanie said just as awkwardly. "Nice to meet you Louis." Melanie shifted her light brown eyes from Louis to Melina who was facepalming the whole time.
"That wasn't awkward at all." Melina muttered under her breath.
Laughing, Louis leaned back so he laid on the pillow. "Well, you think I made a good first impression?"
This time Melina had to laugh as she laid down on his chest.
"Hi," Louis said once more as he tucked her long auburn hair behind her ear.
"Hi," Melina smiled up at him.
"Hmmm," Louis hummed whilst eyeing her. Before Melina knew it, Louis rolled them over so that he was on the top. "How about a kiss for my long journey?"
~~~
That morning, Louis was the first to woke. He glanced at Melina's digital clock, wincing a little at the time. It wasn't even seven. But he was rather wide awake. He stared at the ceiling at first, attempting to sleep but failing. After another ten minutes he just settled for resting his head on his elbow in order to watch his girlfriend sleep, finding her short breaths accompanied with the rise and fall of her chest rather relaxing.
"I wish I could wake up to this every morning." Louis said grinning as Melina finally woke up. After a quick yawn, Melina's lids fluttered before she finally smiled.
"Morning Louis." She said softly, looking up at him with her bleary grey orbs.
"Morning," Louis replied back as he brushed some hair out of her face.
~~~
"Yes um," Melina coughed for show. "I just came down with a," She coughed once more as Louis muffled a laugh by kissing her bare shoulder. "flu..." She trailed off. "I don't think I can make it to work today."
Melina held the sheet closer to her chest as she huffed and whispered for Louis to stop it when he tried to pull her sheet off her.
"This sickness wouldn't happen to be named Louis would it?" Kelly asked absolutely amused as she heard Melina's harsh whisper.
A red blush spread across Melina's cheeks as she nearly died of mortification while Louis just laughed outright, not bothering to hide now that he was apparently found.
"Hi Kelly," Louis quipped.
"Hiya Louis, come by the cafe later with Niall. We have a new flavor of ice cream."
"Why is it always Niall?" Louis muttered.
Melina laughed as she finally said goodbye to Kelly. "Speaking of Niall, he's in town too right?"
"Of course, but he's with your parents." Louis said as he hugged her torso.
Melina laughed into his arm. "Yep my parents now officially have three sons." She looked up at him. "But I've always wanted a younger sibling... speaking of which. Since I have no work." She sighed. "Ara has a rowing meet, let's go. I'll call Niall, I'm sure he would love to go too. I miss the cutie," She said getting into the habit of calling Niall cutie from her mother.
"First," Louis rolled his eyes. "I want you all to myself. Niall can wait."
