"Place your bets now: Will the water work with the power back on?" I muttered while reaching out for the faucet over the sink. The pipes groaned for a second, but water sputtered out before turning to a steady stream. "Thank you." I sighed.
"It seems most of the bunker is still in working order other than the farm." Roan said from behind me.
"No surprise there." I cupped my hands under the stream of water to collect it. Sniffing the water to be sure there were no strong or strange smells, I then took a drink. "The water filtration seems to be working, too."
"Why didn't you ask before taking a drink?"
"Because I want to take a shower. I was literally inside a creature's stomach not too long ago. Thought it was a cave at first, but...." I then shrugged.
"That explains the smell in your hair." Roan popped off with a rumbling chuckle, and I smacked his arm with the back of my hand.
"I know it's true, but you don't have to laugh about it." I then sat on a bench near the shower stalls to take my boots off. "On one hand, maybe I should have accepted the offer to shower back at that cult place, but on the other hand, didn't trust a damn one of them." I grumbled.
Pushing my hair back over my shoulders, I undid the furs to drop them onto the bench. Taking off the harnesses for my knives, they joined the pile.
"What even happened over there?" Roan asked while crossing his arms.
"A bunch of bullshit. Yet another group of humans with a superiority complex with cult brainwashing sprinkled in. Bill, the Shepherd, teaches them to suppress their emotions 'for the good of mankind', he says. I didn't see as much of it as Octavia and Echo, but I saw enough to know that I didn't like it and wanted no part of it."
"And this 'Last War' is a part of their plan?"
"Exactly. Bill believes he's building an army to ascend to a higher level of being." Standing up, I went into a showering stall and turned on the water. "The Anomaly Stones are a part of it. You put in a specific code, and it'll take you to some other place. Except Bill's people mistranslated it to a war while Jordan translates it to a test. Either way, if you don't win, all of humanity is fucked no matter where they are in the galaxy." I said while feeling the water and waiting for it to at least get warm.
"And the Flame had this code?"
"Yup. Bekka Pramheda discovered the code, went to wherever it was the stone leads to, and then refused to take part. She kept the code from Bill because whatever it was she saw, she knew he shouldn't get his hands on the code."
"And Madi's here because she knows the code." Roan sighed.
"Not consciously. But from the drawings in her sketchbook, it's in her head somewhere, and Bill has a machine that can actually look through your memories. Bill's daughter also just so happens to be Kalliope Pramfleimkepa."
"What?"
"Yeah." I stepped under the water, letting it run over my hair and skin. "Kalliope also apparently came up with Trigedasleng when she was a child. From what I gather, the clans were actually formed by her and her people after somehow getting out of the Second Dawn bunker. My guess is this shit was left out of history for a reason."
"And why the capital was here as well."
"It does make me wonder what exactly happened back then." Grabbing the soap bar in the corner tray, I ran it under the water to wash a layer of it off before using it in my hair. Placing the bar back onto the tray, I lathered the soap more with my hands. "I mean, if Kalliope Pramfleimkepa was Bill's daughter, why did he go through the Bridge without her?"
"Try to not let your head get stuck in the past, Dia." Roan's voice rumbled from right behind me before he gently kissed my shoulder. "You always have been a rather curious one."
"Tell me you don't want to know."
"I don't much care, but I wouldn't be opposed to finding out."
"Hey, you also agree with us settling on Earth, right? Or do you think we should stay on Sanctum?"
"Sanctum, a planet that turns the living creatures into bloodthirsty killers every eclipse, and where the trees are either just plants or will trap you in its roots to eat you? That Sanctum?"
"I'm just asking, jeez." I chuckled. "But I guess that makes your answer clear."
"If the others agreed to it as well, don't second guess your decision. You're doing good, Dia."
"I'm just still not sure I should be Heda. I mean, yeah, people keep telling me I make a good leader and all that shit, but it still just doesn't.... It doesn't feel right."
"It doesn't feel right because of the work it takes or because of what you came from?" His tone was gentle as he began to rub my shoulders.
"Both, if I'm honest."
"Then listen to me. If we were still the 13 clans, and I was still king, I would have gladly bowed to you as my Heda."
"Wow, you barely even bowed to Lexa back then."
"Then that should tell you how well you're doing."
"Or you're just biased." I scoffed. "King Roan did have a tendency to sneak into my room, you know."
"Well, I felt like being greedy with my Queen. I wanted to keep you to myself a little longer." Roan kissed the side of my neck while grabbing my hip and reaching for the soap.
"Your 'Queen'?" I felt a smirk pull at my lips. "I may not be fond of the title, but it sure sounds good when you say it." Roan rubbed the soap over my skin while standing closer than before.
"My Queen." He practically purred near my ear as his hands went over my chest. Roan squeezed my breast, and I felt my nipples harden. I let my eyes close as I leaned back into him, feeling myself relax as his rough palm went down my stomach.
The soap bar was set back down before Roan gently pushed me under the stream of water to rinse the soap off. His fingers trailed over my body, lighting a fire beneath my skin. He turned my back to the water, then his fingers were in my hair to get the soap out.
Placing my hands onto his hips, I hummed when his lips went down the side of my throat. Soap and water ran down my back as Roan kept his mouth on my neck to kiss, lick, and even leave a few hickies. His scruffy face scraped over my skin, and his hands dropped from my hair to go down my spine.
Grabbing his jaw, I lifted his face to kiss him. Roan squeezed my ass while pulling me closer, pressing his body flush against mine.
"You're being rather sweet." I muttered while looking into Roan's eyes that seemed so dark now.
"For now." He smirked before pushing me up against the wall. "When we get back to the room....not so much." Roan said with his face only centimeters from mine before he went down. He kissed down my stomach, and I bit my bottom lip.
He groped my thighs and nipped my hip, and I slicked my hair back against my skull. Roan spread my thighs and licked over my slit, his tongue dragging over my clit to make me moan. He lifted one leg over his shoulder to get better access, and my fingers tangled into his wet hair.
"Mmm, and what do you plan on doing when we get back to the room?"
"I'm going to leave that ass rosy and you unable to stand." His voice was a low rumble as he looked up at me with such a predatorial gaze. "You're going to be begging for me not to stop." Roan licked again, tantalizingly slow while still having his eyes locked on mine.
"....Can we go to the room now?" My voice came out breathy, and the man softly chuckled.
"Not yet." My hips bucked as I moaned from him thrusting his fingers into my core. He lowly hummed before sucking on my clit, and the leg I was standing on nearly gave out. My grip in his hair tightened as his fingers curled.
Panting, I ground my hips into Roan's face as he continued to pump and curl his fingers while his mouth was on my clit. My moans echoed in the empty room as I leaned against the wall for stability. I knew he was doing this on purpose to work me up as much as possible before he'd finally let me out of this damn stall.
Whether or not he'd let me cum first was only known to him.
Roan pulled his fingers free to bury his face between my thighs, and my hips bucked again. His facial hair scraped against my thighs, and all I could think about was what was coming next. Maybe that was his intention from the beginning- to get my mind off of everything else.
Either that or the man was just horny. Hell, it could possibly even be both.
~
I was barely dressed with the rest of my clothes tucked under my arm, my bare feet padding over the concrete floor as I was dragging Roan behind me. Neither of us even took the time to properly dry our hair, nor the time to fully dress, so Roan was just in his pants while carrying the rest of his clothes like me.
My skin was still buzzing, and I nearly slammed open the door to the room we were staying in. Dropping my clothes on the nearest bunk bed, Roan did the same. He grabbed my shirt and pulled it up over my head before tossing it.
Rough hands were on my skin before lips touched mine, and I grabbed the waistband of Roan's pants that weren't even buttoned. Shoving his pants down his thighs, his hands slid into my underwear to grab my bare ass. My underwear was pushed down, and the cool air made me feel just how wet I was.
I'd already cum once in the shower, but Roan was holding to his word of doing more once we got to the room. His fingers tangled into my hair to pull me back, taking a step forward to make me take a step back.
"Bend over." His husky voice commanded, and I eagerly did as told. Hot hands grabbed my ass, massaging before one lifted and came down sharply with an audible smack. I jolted, the sting letting me know the spot was already turning pink.
Roan soothed where he had smacked before leaving a matching pink mark on the other cheek.
"Aren't you eager?" Roan hummed as his fingers swiped between my dripping lips. "Making such a mess." I could feel my face burning before he spanked me again.
I was so close to begging for Roan to just fuck me, but I didn't have to when he grabbed my hips and coated his cock in my slick. The man was only gentle the first few thrusts but picked up the pace when my hips rocked back into him. Roan had my hips in a vice-like grip, fucking me as he deeply groaned.
Moaning, my hands gripped the blanket beneath my palms as my thighs were shaking. My wet hair fell over my shoulders, dripping water onto the mattress below. Lips peppered kisses over my shoulders before Roan shoved me down onto the bed.
Hot breath hit the back of my neck as Roan was pistoning his cock, hitting so deep within that I couldn't even keep quiet if I wanted to. The man had his hands firmly planted on the bed on either side of me when he licked up my spine.
I shivered and moaned, and Roan bit down to leave yet another mark along with the hickies. His hips were smacking into me each time he buried his cock to the hilt in my heat, and I was drowning in the pleasure of it. The old bed was creaking with all of the movement, but neither of us were too concerned given the thick, concrete walls surrounding us.
I groaned low as my face and chest were against the shit quality blanket on the bed, and I could feel drool beginning to trickle down the corner of my mouth. Roan leaned on my back as his hands slid underneath me. His chest vibrated from his moan as he groped my breasts. My hips bucked when he pinched my nipples, and his lips were on my skin.
"Roan, please~! Oh, fuck, please~!" I whimpered, and his voice growled near my ear.
"Please what?" Swallowing before I moaned again, I grabbed one of his hands and pushed it down until it was between my legs.
"Touch me." I panted.
"As you wish." I could just hear the grin in his voice, and he used two fingers to circle my clit. My body clenched and trembled beneath the bigger man, my breath coming quick and heavy as I neared my climax.
Roan didn't stop even as I was cumming and clinging to the blanket with a grip that made my knuckles turn white. However, it seemed like my orgasm set off his as he moaned and pulsed inside of me. Stars fluttered across my vision until I loosened my grip on the blanket while panting.
"Damn...." My voice was breathy, and I wiped the drool from my face while propping myself up on my elbows. "Haven't gotten that in a while." I muttered before my eyes widened from Roan flipping me over.
"Don't tell me you're already done, Dia." Roan purred as he looked down at me with his hair falling over his shoulders. "I thought as a warrior you'd have more stamina." His fingers trailed up my thigh with a feather-like touch, sending a shiver up my spine.
"You should know better by now, Roan. If you've got more, I'll fuckin' take it." My hand slid up the back of his neck to tangle my fingers into his hair. Pulling him down to me, I slipped my tongue into his mouth with a kiss while he fumbled to find the pillow to slide it under my ass and prop up my hips.
~
Slowly waking up, I could feel hot breath hitting the back of my head as an arm was draped over my side. I couldn't tell how long I was out since there were no windows nor clocks, but I felt as if I'd slept for ages. Softly sighing through my nose, I rubbed my eye with the butt of my palm.
I guess it was time to get out of bed and figure out a way to fix the deep shit we were in. Getting to sleep soundly in Roan's arms was nice while it lasted, but being Heda came with responsibilities that couldn't be put off for long. Not to mention that even though my son was safe for now, I didn't know how long that would last.
Enan would be okay so long as he stayed in Niron with Wonkru and Fang, however, that only held up so long as the cultists couldn't get past the radiation fence. No one from Sanctum would dare touch my son, so I wouldn't have to worry about them-
Sheidheda.
Sheidheda was still in Sanctum. If he escaped Russell's hold, he was a Natblida able to walk right through the fence. From my experience when he was in Madi, he wanted to rule more than anything and would surely use Enan-
"What are you worrying about now?" Roan's tired voice broke the silence.
"Sorry, did I wake you?" I rolled over to look at him.
"No. But you're tense. What is it?"
"Just remembering all the shit on my plate." I sighed while gently running my thumb over his cheek as I held his face in my hand. Roan grabbed the back of my hand to place a kiss on my palm.
"Remember that you're not alone in this."
"I will." Softly smiling, I then sat up. "We should probably check on the others and start working on a way to get to the stone."
"Raven should have the helmet fixed by now. Or at least nearly fixed."
"I hope so." Getting up, I stretched out my tired muscles. Getting fully dressed, Roan followed suit after rolling out of bed. There was a banging on the door when I was pulling on my boots, and the urgency of it made my brows furrow. "Octavia? What's wrong?" I asked after opening the door.
"Madi's missing, and someone just came through the portal." She sounded breathless. "Is she here? Have you seen her?"
"No, we just woke up. How long has she been missing?" I questioned while going into the hall.
"I don't know. Clarke said they had a fight not too long ago, and then she stormed out. We've been going level by level, but haven't found her."
"What about the intruder?"
"Cloaked. Came through invisible, so we don't know where they are at all."
"Shit." I hissed while walking faster. We split up to cover more ground, weapons drawn in case we encountered the cloaked soldier....well, it was possible there were more, but we wouldn't know for certain.
~
"Madi, please don't do this." Gaia had her hand raised as Madi held the curved blade over her stomach.
"I told you no one else is dying to save me."
"Madi, stop!" I rose my voice when I came to a halt in the Rotunda. We'd finally found her with a dying Gabriel only for her to sneak out through the vents.
"I have to do this." Her voice was steady.
"Madi, please!" Clarke pleaded.
"I love you, Clarke."
"No!" But it was too late as Madi was already gone in a puff of green smoke. Not even a second after, and a portal opened to leave a ticking machine on a rolling cart.
"Bomb!"
Why could good things never last?
~
"We can still get to Madi." Clarke stated while pulling out the vial with two pills in it. She went to unscrew the lid, but I snatched it from her hands before pointing at her.
"You really think I'm going to trust you to get Madi back without fucking shit up more?"
"She's my daughter!"
"And you've betrayed us one too many times! You can stay here and help dig out the others, I will go get Madi." I waved my finger at the caved-in hallway before pointing at myself with my thumb. "At least then we'll know you won't try to make a deal just to save your own ass." My tone bit deep as Clarke's bruised face twisted.
"They took my daughter, do you really think I would-"
"Yes, I do. That's the whole fucking point of me saying you're not going. I don't trust you for shit, Clarke. Not even when it comes to Madi."
"There's two pills. I'll go, too." Roan stated, but Octavia stepped forward.
"It's better if I go. I know the layout and where they'd take her. I also have an inside man."
"Then it's settled."
"It's not-"
"Shut up, Clarke." I shot her a look while holding up the vial. "Show of hands of those that think Clarke should go." My eyes glanced around the room, and no hand rose. "That's what I thought. We're tired of you screwing us over, Clarke. We'll get Madi back, but you're staying here."
Unscrewing the lid, I dumped the pills into my hand, and Octavia took one.
"Wait, we should think this through." Gaia raised her hand.
"We don't have the time to." I replied before swallowing the pill. Octavia followed suit, and....nothing happened.
"Cadogan disappeared right away."
"Maybe somebody has to be waiting in Bardo to pull you through." Hope spoke up, and I angrily threw the vial down, shattering it on the ground before rubbing my forehead as my other hand was on my hip.
Pacing as my mind raced, I was trying to think of a way to get through this. The stone was under tons of concrete and debris, the pills weren't working, and the last people we wanted anywhere near Madi had her now. As soon as they got that code from her, we'd all be fucked. And there was no telling what they'd do to Madi to get it.
She was a fighter, they wouldn't be able to extract the memory easily. From experience, I knew how painful of an ordeal that could get.
"Now what's your big plan, O' Great Heda?" Clarke popped off, and I stopped in my tracks. Rage flooded my veins, and I turned on the blonde with my hands up by my head.
"We wouldn't even be stuck here in the first place if it weren't for you, you stupid bitch!" I shouted, the echo making it nearly sound like a roar. "If you hadn't broken the fucking helmet, we could already be back on Sanctum without those fuckers knowing! We could have had time to make actual plans on stopping them! We could have actual warriors to back us rather than just a handful of us against an army we don't even know the size of!"
Clarke reflexively backed away, seeing how angry I was.
"You want to smart off to me right after getting pissy about wanting to save your daughter when you're the reason they even knew where she was! I should just fucking kill you-" I advanced, but arms grabbed me to stop me.
"Dia! Dia, stop! Killing Clarke won't fix this!"
"No, but it'll make me feel better and shut her up for good!" I snarled while trying to lunge forward, but Roan just lifted me off my feet.
"Dia!" Roan rose his voice as Gaia quickly rushed Clarke away and up the spiraling ramp going toward the surface. The anger still boiled beneath my skin, but I stopped struggling in Roan's arms when the blonde was out of sight. "Take a deep breath." His voice rumbled by my ear, and I huffed. "No, an actual deep breath."
I reluctantly did so.
"Hold it. ....Now slowly let it go. Breath in. Hold. Let it go." Roan's tone was steady as I followed his instructions. My hammering pulse slowed, and I no longer felt as if I was close to popping a blood vessel. He finally let my feet touch the ground again, but still held me against him in a firm hold.
At least he knew well enough to not let me go just yet. I was still angry even if I was no longer seeing red. No one else spoke, either knowing now was not the time to or they were too scared to say something that'd set me off again.
I had a reputation for being outwardly emotionless, or at least near it, but Clarke just kept pushing my buttons. I wanted to close my eyes, and everything be fine when I opened them. However, I knew that simply wouldn't happen.
"Looks like we're leaving now." Octavia muttered, and that was when I noticed my hands glowing.
~
Panting, I was running through the tall trees. I'd been separated from Octavia after the Bridge had left us in front of a blockade with cult soldiers armed in the middle of an indoor forest. They'd threatened to shoot us, but when we ran, the bullets were aimed at the ground near our feet.
They wanted us alive, but I couldn't figure out why.
They were also fools to move the Bridge into their wooded area. It may be an enclosed space, but this was a battleground I thrived in. Plenty of trees for cover, and plenty of grass to expose the cloaked coming after me.
~
Crouching on a branch as I wiped the blood from my knife on my pants, my eyes were glued to the ground. I watched the grass and other foliage for any signs of movement below. I didn't keep track of the soldiers I'd taken out, but it seemed like they'd finally gotten the hint to back off.
I hadn't come across Octavia yet, so I could only assume she'd been captured. If so....why hadn't they tried to use her as bait to make me come out? My brows furrowed in thought. Maybe Octavia was still indeed out here, and I just simply hadn't crossed paths with her yet.
This was a large space to cover. A person could actually get lost for a while in this patch of forest.
My brows knit closer together when I heard....music. Strings were being plucked- rather amateurishly- and the sound was getting closer. I crawled over the branches to get a better look while keeping low and keeping quiet.
What were they up to?
A man in white came into view holding a ukulele. I recognized his face- Levitt. His eyes were wandering like he was looking for something or someone as he continued to badly play the ukulele. I guessed musical instruments weren't part of the cult learning program. No shock there with how any emotion is to be suppressed.
Throwing my knife, the blade dug into the dirt in front of the man to stop him. His face paled a little when he saw the knife, and he stopped playing to raise his hands.
"I come unarmed, Heda!" Levitt called out. "The others don't know I'm here. They've drawn back forces to instead lock you in here rather than try to find you." He was now looking up into the trees to try and spot me since he noticed how the knife had come from above. "They have Octavia. And I, uh, brought this as a sign of good faith." He waved the ukulele.
"How the Hell is that a sign of good faith?" I spoke up while still staying close to the branch to keep from being seen.
"In Octavia's memories- We saw that you liked to play." He nervously swallowed while shifting weight on his feet. "She, um, she said if I played a song, you'd believe me."
"....You were playing a song?"
"Well, we don't exactly have musical instruments. And I forgot the, uh, the notes." I couldn't help but snort. Yeah, Octavia definitely sent him. There was no way this guy was bait.
I climbed down from where I was and approached him. Pulling my knife from the dirt, I slid it into its sheath.
"Two questions. One, how did you get in here if they locked me in? Two, how in the world did you get the ukulele?"
"I hacked the lock. And the Shepherd had this made for you as a gift before.... Well, before he found out you didn't have the Flame." Levitt handed over the instrument, and I took it before slinging the strap over my shoulder.
"You stole from your Shepherd?"
"I couldn't come empty-handed."
"....Maybe you're not such a sheep after all." I pat Levitt's shoulder before looking behind him. "So where are they keeping Octavia?"
~
"Madi?" I neared the girl left alone in the MCAP room. Her eyes were open as she had dried blood on her face from two wounds on her forehead. "Shit, Madi?" I held her face in my hands while patting her cheek. She was still warm and with a pulse, so I couldn't figure out why she was so limp in the chair. "Come on, snap out of it, kiddo."
"She....She can't."
"What do you mean she can't?" My gaze snapped to Levitt as he had the hologram gear on. I didn't know what he was seeing, but I wasn't liking the expression he had. "She's breathing, so what the fuck is wrong with her?"
"There's evidence of a massive stroke. She still has neural activity but...."
"But what?!" I snapped, my patience wearing thin as Madi still wasn't moving.
"She's paralyzed. She's locked in." Levitt replied, and I looked back at Madi. Heat pricked at my eyes as I gently held her face in my hands. She still looked so young but lifeless from how pale she was.
Her breath was slow and steady, and I clenched my jaw.
"Can it be fixed?"
"Wha-"
"Can it be fixed?" My tone came out harsher the second time.
"No. The areas of her brain responsible for voluntary movement have been destroyed. I'm sorry."
"You're telling me that in this advanced as shit place with literal alien technology, there's not a single damn thing that can help her?!"
"I don't...." Levitt glanced away as if he was looking at the hologram screen before his face went firm. "Nothing we have the time for."
"What kind of time?"
"Hours."
"Shit!" My hands balled into fists in my hair as I stepped away from Madi. It was too dangerous to carry her out of here and take her home, but I couldn't kill her if she had a chance to recover. If she was trapped inside her own mind with no way out, it'd be a mercy to let her go, but....
Madi just wanted to be a kid. She just wanted to go to school and play with Picasso. Wanted to run around and play with the other kids.
"No. He got the code. Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, God. I'm so sorry."
"The test code? Are you sure?" Octavia asked.
"Hologram Mode." Levitt waved his hand, and the screen became visible to us. Memories from Bekka Pramheda played, but they were glitchy and showed her entering the code into the stone.
"We have to stop him. If one man represents the entire human race...."
"We can still stop him, but we have to go now." Levitt looked from Octavia to me. My face went flat as anger flickered in my eyes before I went back to Madi.
"Listen to me carefully, Madi." I gently took her hand in mine. "I'll get the son-of-a-bitch that did this. I'll come back for you, and I....we will fix this. We're here for you, Madi, and I promised to get you home." My tone was steady as I looked into her light eyes. "And you know I keep my promises."
