Y/N's pov:
You were sitting on the living room floor with a canvas in front of you. You hadn't painted in years but now you were blasting music from your record player while you were filling the white canvas with color. Your hair was tied up into a messy bun and you were wearing a white button up shirt and no pants because it was more comfortable. You had gotten paint all over you and you looked like a mess but at least you were having a good time.
Being to busy singing the lyrics to the music you miss the sound of keys giggling and the door opening and Emily coming home.
You jump when you feel a hand touch your shoulder
"You scared me!"
She just laughs at how freaked out you got "I'm sorry baby I didn't mean to but you were singing so loudly so you didn't hear when I called your name"
"Since when do you paint?" She asked raising an eyebrow when she sees the canvas "I used to paint a lot but I just never told anyone about it" you shrugged.
"We're about to get married and I don't even know about your secret hobbies" she jokes and you playfully hit her side "I don't have secret hobbies" you mutter.
Emily chuckles "don't worry, I'll find out eventually"
"But next time...maybe paint the canvas and not yourself?" She says making you roll your eyes "carefully, I might just paint you instead" You say picking up a paintbrush like you were threatening her.
"Okay okay calm down little one" she giggles sitting down on her knees in front of you. She takes the brush away from you and puts it aside before leaning in to kiss you. You hum into the kiss and cup her cheek without realizing your hands were full of paint. When she pulls away you bite your lip to hold in a laugh as you see the paint on her face.
"What?" She asks furrowing her eyebrows.
"Nothing" you respond trying hard to not break into laughter.
"if I have paint on my face...I will kill you" she warns and you can't hold your laugh in anymore.
"Maybe we could both use a shower" you giggle and she rolls her eyes before pulling you up from the floor "come on"
You feel her squeeze your ass making you jump "Em!" She just smirks at you before turning on the shower to let the water heat up. "Clothes off" she orders.
"Yes ma'am" you giggle and step into the shower waiting for her to join you. You feel her kissing your shoulder from behind and you turn around and pull her in for another kiss. She backs you up against the wall and goes to your neck, leaving a trail of kisses down to your chest.
"Em.." you gasp as she flicks her tongue over your nipple.
"You like that baby?" She asks already knowing the answer. You nod and she continues to play with your nipples, swirling her tongue over them and gentle rolling them between her fingers.
"I thought we were going to shower" you giggle as she started to kiss down your body "we are showering" she grins. You roll your eyes and feel water hit you "Em!"
"See? We're showering" she says with a smirk as she kisses the inside of your thigh making a moan accidentally slip from your mouth.
"Aw you're enjoying this aren't you? My good girl, always so good for me" She says in a sweet condescending tone before licking a bold stripe up your center, completely catching you by surprise. Your eyes roll to the back of your head as she continues her actions and your hands travel down to her hair.
"Such a tease, wearing your ass out like that" she says seductively as her hands move and land on your butt, squeezing it lightly.
"Hm i didn't hear you complaining" you breathe as she laughs a bit before continuing.
Without any warning she slips two fingers inside of you and starts to pump them in and out while curling them inside.
"Fuck Em, that feels so good!" You cry out as she hits your sweet spot. You make eye contact as she smiles and wraps her lips around your clit while continuing to work her fingers. Your breathing increases and more moans and curse fall of your lips as she picks up the pace and you feel the familiar knot start to build up in your stomach letting you know you were close.
"Come for me angel" she murmurs before your release takes over and her name rolls off your tongue along with more curses as you come down from your high. Emily licks her fingers clean and smirks "delicious"
You start laughing "god I can't handle you"
She chuckles and kisses you softly before grabbing the shampoo off of the shelf "can I?" She asks and you nod with a smile.
-
"So what do you think?" Emily asks as you finish the 4th house tour of the day. You were both exhausted by now but you really wanted to find a home that felt right.
"It's nice" you shrug "I mean it's pretty big and all"
Emily sighs "yeah, I'm not really feeling this one either. It's nice but it doesn't really feel right" she says and you agree.
You get inside her car and lean back in your seat letting out a tired sigh.
"We're going to find a home" she says softly rubbing your thigh. You turn to her "I hope so" you say giving her a half-smile.
You both decided to give up for the day because you were exhausted. Emily started driving home but not even ten minutes later she gets a text from Penelope.
"Can you check that for me?" She asks since she was driving. You nod and pick up her phone.
"You need to come in and finish paperwork" you tell her after reading the text. She groans loudly "it's our day off and now I need to go to work?"
"I know it sucks but at least we got half a day off?" You say trying to sound positive but failing miserably.
"I can keep you company while you finish those case files" you smirk and she laughs "I'm sure you will"
Emily pulls into the parking lot of the BAU and you get out of the car and take her hand as you walk inside the tall building.
You ride the elevator to the top floor and walk through the bullpen towards her office.
"I'm just going to the bathroom for a second don't die of boredom" you say and kiss her cheek. She chuckles "I make no promises" You roll your eyes and leave her office.
Emily's pov:
You sighed at the case files in front of you, opening the top one. This was the last thing you wanted to be doing on a Saturday night but as the unit chief you were required to take on extra work and you knew that but it didn't make it any more fun. You were just beyond grateful that you had your fiancée there to keep you company because without her it would be a lot less enjoyable.
You hear a knock at the door and your lips curl into a smile "babe you don't have to knock just come in"
You hear the door open and close but you get no response which makes you furrow your eyebrows and look up from the papers. Your eyes go wide when you realize it wasn't y/n, fuck.
"Emily" a familiar voice greats without any emotion.
"Mother" you respond in the same tone.
You hadn't seen your mom in years. When you got accepted to join the BAU you kinda just lost touch with her. You wouldn't lie, you didn't want to talk to her, she wasn't the best mom to you growing up. Sure she had her moments but you never had a real relationship with her. She was always working and never had time for you which lead to you having to take on a lot of responsibility and grow up at an early age. You moved around a lot as a kid because of your moms work which made it hard to keep friendships and relationships, it made it hard to fit in and feel like you belonged somewhere.
But you came out to your mom in high school was really the last straw. She wasn't very pleased with your "life choices" as she called it. She had made sure to let you know just how disappointed and disgusted she was with you for being a lesbian. It got to you, she was your mom so how could it not? You spent years trying to be someone you weren't just to make her happy because you thought that's what you had to do to fix your relationship with her. But one day you'd had enough of denying who you were so you applied to the academy and when you got in you simply stopped talking to her, not like she had noticed anyways.
"I haven't seen you in years, how are you?" She asks and you mentally roll your eyes, does she really think she can waltz into your life like nothing after not even trying to reach out to you?
"We don't need to do this" you say calmly and she gives you a confused look almost like she doesn't know she's ever done anything wrong which makes your blood boil.
"What do you mean? Can't a mother see her daughter?" She says innocently. You take a deep breath trying not to lose your temper while at work.
"Well you've had years to reach out so no you can't" you say coldly while turning your attention back to the case file.
She ignores your words completely. "Who were you expecting at the door?" She asks.
"I don't recall that being any of your business" you scoff.
"I'd like to meet this man, I want to know who my daughter is marrying. I'm very pleased that you have come to your senses and stopped with your foolishness,I knew it was a phase" she continues and you suck in another breath and clench your fist under the desk feeling yourself being on the verge of snapping at her.
"Like I said, it's not any of your business. My relationship has nothing to do with you. Now if you'll excuse me I need to finish up this work" you say without looking up.
"No worries, I'll text you and we can set up a date!" You can hear that her nice tone isn't genuine at all. Unfortunately you knew that she wouldn't stop bothering you so you just stayed silent until she left the room.
You rest your head between your hands on your desk and sigh. You could already feel a headache forming so you started lightly massaging your temples to relieve the pressure building up.
"I'm sorry it took so long but I wanted to surprise you with some coffee and- what's wrong?" She stops when she sees your head buried in your arms. You shook your head knowing that if you try to speak your voice would most definitely fail you.
"Em?" she speaks softly as she places a hand on your shoulder. You don't move from your position and you hear the concern in her voice.
"Emily" she tries again while gently rubbing your shoulder.
You feel like you're sixteen all over again. Your moms words circles your head and you can't seem to get them out. It's not because of her calling your sexuality a phase is getting to you, well it is but it's more than that. It's the fact that she's so ignorant and that she cares so little about your happiness. The only happiness she's ever cared about was her own and she always saw your sexuality as a slap in the face, an embarrassment to your family.
"Can you look at me, please?" She asks softly touching your hair.
"Baby, I need to know you're okay, can you please talk to me" she keeps pushing and you finally give in and lift your head up. Your eyes meet and you see that hers are full of worry and concern. She takes your hand in hers gently "come here" she says and drags you over to the couch, sitting you down before taking a seat besides you without letting go of your hand.
Her eyes were soft and her voice was gentle when she spoke and it calmed some of your anxiety.
"Can you tell me what's going on?" She asks again.
You look down and sigh knowing you can't push her away, not after everything you've been through.
"My mom came to see me" you finally say without looking at her.
"What did she say?" She asks carefully.
"a lot of things" you mumble feeling tears start to form in your eyes. She lifts your chin so she can see your face and she cups your face with her hand while holding your with the other.
"Em" she tries, you know she won't stop until she gets it out of you.
"Um well she's convinced I'm marrying a man and she was very vocal about how pleased she is that I'm over my phase of being a lesbian" you say in a low tone and bite the inside of your cheek to hold in the tears that are threatening to spill.
Instead of asking if your okay like most people would've done she catches you by surprise when she instead asks "what do you need right now?"
"Just h-hold me" your voice fails you and tears start running down your cheeks. You feel arms wrapping around you, holding you tightly as quiet sobs escape your mouth.
"Em, your happiness matters more than anyone's opinions. It doesn't matter who you're marrying as long as you're happy. I'm so sorry that your mom can't accept who you are but you have a family here who loves you and accepts you, your moms opinion doesn't matter it's not her life, it's yours." She speaks in a soft tone while running her fingers through your hair to calm you down.
God you loved her so much. Somehow she always knew the right thing to say to make you feel better. She reminded you that you were loved and that your moms opinions didn't matter which was something you often found yourself forgetting.
After a few minutes your crying stops and you relax a bit in her arms feeling some of the tension leave your body.
"God I don't know why she still gets inside my head" you whisper burying your head in her chest.
"She's your mom, it's not always that easy to ignore her opinions, I would know" she says. You know that she understands, probably better than anyone. She knows exactly what it's like to have a mom that doesn't respect you or value your happiness.
"I just wish I could make her understand that this is who I am, it was never a phase" you say in a low tone. Her hand rubs your back gently and you close your eyes to try to forget.
"I know Em, I know. But trying to do that will only hurt you more because your mom will only hear what she wants to hear, if you haven't gotten through to her already I'm not sure you ever will." She responds. You know she's right, of course she is. You spent years denying who you were only to make your mom happy but now you were an adult and you refused to go back to that. You were engaged to a beautiful woman and you had a great job and an amazing and supportive family that loved you unconditionally and that was more than you ever could have dreamed of.
"I used to date guys to make my mom happy, I thought that if I tried hard enough then maybe I could actually like them. I would do anything to please my mom and fix our relationship but I can't go back to that. I could never give this up no matter what my mom or anyone else says" you whisper and she gives you a look of understanding, not pity.
"You deserve to be happy Em, you don't have to hide who you are anymore." She says as she hugs you tighter.
"I am happy, you make me happy"
"Yeah I would hope so" she jokes and you can't help but chuckle a bit.
"Can I finish your work for you?" She asks as you pull away from her embrace.
"You don't have-"
"It's almost finished, it'll take me 15 minutes tops. Please let me do that for you" she asks and you give in and nod your head lightly being too tired to argue. She gives you a smile and plants a kiss to your forehead before getting up.
"Oh I almost forgot I bought coffee and croissants" she chuckles and hands you a bag and a cup of coffee. You give her a small smile of appreciation "thank you"
She goes to your desk and starts to work on the last case file that you hadn't finished while you remained on the couch watching her.
You feel someone gently rubbing your shoulder and your eyes flutter open "hey sleepy" y/n whispers as you let out a yawn.
"What time is it?" You ask confused as you sit up on the couch. She chuckles a bit "it's 8 pm, I wanted to let you sleep for a bit. Don't worry I finished up the work while you were sleeping"
"I love you" you say in a soft tone.
"Yeah I'm pretty great" she smiles and you roll your eyes.
"Let's go home" she giggles and drags you up from the couch. You take her hand and you start walking out to your car. When you get there you open the door to the drivers seat but y/n stops you "nope, you're not driving like that"
"What do you mean?" You ask furrowing your eyebrows.
"I know you're tired and I don't want you to get in a car crash because you fell asleep while driving" she says taking your keys.
You sigh "fine" even though you didn't want to admit it she was right. You were exhausted and all you wanted to do was sleep so driving would probably not be a great idea. You climb into the passengers seat which is odd because you're always the one driving but you were too tired to care.
Suddenly y/n opens the door and hands you a blanket with a smile on her face "thanks" you mumble as you put it over you and close your eyes.
The next thing you know his y/n waking you up.
"Em I'd love to carry you inside but I'm too weak" you give her a tired smile before following her inside the apartment complex. She lets you in before closing the door behind her and you take off your shoes and jacket and follow her inside.
You take a seat at the kitchen table and place your head in your arms, a heavy sigh escaping your lips. Your moms visit combined with all the crying had tired you out and given you a headache. You remember that she had told you that she would reach out to set up a time for her to meet the "man" you were marrying. You knew damn well that she wouldn't let you get out of it and you had no idea what you were going to do because no matter what you did it would end badly.
"Em? You okay?" She asks when she sees you.
"Honestly? No, not a bit" you confess to your surprise. You had always said "I'm fine" whenever someone asked you how you were even when you weren't fine at all, but she wasn't just "someone", you trusted her more than anyone else.
"Here, I got you Advil and some chamomile tea, it could help" she offered sliding the mug of hot tea in front of you. You lift your head off of the table and mumble a simple "thanks" you know she knows how much you appreciate everything she does even though you're too exhausted to show it. You take the aspirin and take a sip of the tea letting the warm liquid ease your tension and calm your anxiety.
"Is this about what she said about you?" She asks carefully as you place the mug back on the table in front of you.
"Yes and no, I didn't tell you everything" you sign.
"What else did she say?"
"She wants to meet the man I'm marrying in person, she's going to text me about the date and place" you explain.
"What are you going to do?" She asks putting a hand on top of yours.
"I don't know, if I bring you she will lose her shit but if I don't bring anyone's she will lose her shit as well so there's really no way around this" you say in a low tone, looking down at the table.
"Take Spencer"
"What?" You ask, lifting your head.
"Take Spencer, he can pretend to be engaged to you. If I ask him he will do that for me" she says.
"y/n...I don't know, that's kinda weird don't you think? He's your best friend and if I don't kiss him it's not going to be believable and I definitely do not want to kiss a walking database" you scoff.
"Oh come on Em, he's not that bad. Besides, I don't see you having any other ideas?" Yeah this definitely sounds like a stupid idea, typical y/n.
"Did you hear what I said? I'll have to kiss him, like on the mouth" you repeat. There's no way she would be okay with you kissing Spencer Reid and you definitely didn't want to put yourself in that's situation.
"Yeah I heard you"
"And you're okay with that?" You ask raising an eyebrow.
"Em, you're literally a lesbian I know you wouldn't like him like that. Sure I don't love the idea of you and my best friend exchanging saliva but if that's what it takes for your mom to leave you alone then so be it" she says to your surprise.
"This is crazy, you can't be serious about this"
"If you want to introduce me as your fiancée to your mom then go ahead but from what you've told me that would be an awful idea so I suggest you at least think about what I said" she says in a serious tone, letting you know she means what she said.
Could you actually do it? You didn't know but the one thing you did know was that you had to meet your mom, one way or another.
