Chapter 23: Golf (Venus's POV)
At lunch today, Caden sent Roman with another note, asking to meet me in the library. So here we are again, making out on the floor.
"Caden," I said, pulling away from him.
"Yes?" he replied.
"Do you think it's a smart decision to be risking your ass every single night to come see me? Every single day, actually since meeting during lunch in the library is becoming a habit now too," I said, looking down at him. I was sitting in his lap but sideways so I was still facing him and kissing was still easy to do.
"I don't think it's necessarily a smart decision but it is a fun decision," he shrugged.
"Shouldn't you be taking this a little more seriously? You do realize how much would go wrong if we got caught, right?"
"Venus," he sighed, adjusting his grip around my waist. "Don't you think you're being a little too pessimistic about this situation? There's so much good to it."
"Like?" I raised my brows at him.
"Like kissing," he answered bluntly.
"I went eighteen years without kissing a boy, you don't think I could go more?" I lifted a brow at him sharply.
"Of course, you could. But you've kissed me, you think you can go without continuing it?" he smirked.
"Of course. Need I remind you that you enjoy this... whatever this is, way more than I do."
Whatever this is. Because it is certainly not a relationship. It is not a relationship, it never will be and it never can be.
"No, actually. I don't think I enjoy it more than you do. I think I just express it more than you do. That does not mean that you don't enjoy it as much as I do," he explained. "Will you come over today?" he asked, briefly kissing my shoulder.
"How?" I questioned.
"Axel is out with my mom shopping. She's taking him and some of his friends to the mall for a movie uptown. And then my dad is out for the day for golf with his friends."
"Your dad plays golf? That's the most rich-person sport I know," I chuckled.
"Your dad plays golf too, for the record."
"I know that," I smiled.
"I can drive you," he offered. "If you tell your family an excuse."
"You mean if I lie to my family?"
He nodded cheekily.
"My mom is out with her friends, my dad is at work and my grandparents are picking up Clarissa. I'll say I stayed behind for dance," I said, my eyes falling to his lips. "They don't know that we don't actually do anything in that class."
"Perfect," he smirked, tilting my chin up so my eyes met his.
"Perfect," I said mockingly.
He leaned up, pecking my lips.
"Hmm," I mumbled while pulling away. "Lunch ends in fifteen minutes, I should go." I began gathering my stuff but he held me down.
"You know, I think I like..."
I stared at him, waiting to hear him out. I hope he doesn't say what I think he might.
I hope he doesn't say he likes me.
"I think I like your kisses way more than I planned to."
I chuckled, letting out a breath I didn't realize I was holding.
"And I know I've asked this before, but really, if you've never been with someone, how do you kiss like that?"
"I don't know," I mumbled. "I don't think about what I'm doing when I kiss you."
"Then what do you think about when we kiss?"
I had to dig in my head a little about the answer to that. "I think about how much I," I paused, looking up at him. "Don't hate you."
But he does hate me.
"I should go," I nodded, pulling my legs in so I could stand up.
"Venus."
I turned to him, raising my brows.
"I don't hate you either," he said, softly shaking his head.
"You always said you did."
"So did you," he said pointedly.
"Then I guess we're both liars, huh?"
He nodded. "Because of our families, yeah. We're both liars."
"And is that all we lie about? Not hating each other?"
He swallowed. "I don't hate you. But I could never like you," he shook his head. "My family won't allow it and neither would yours."
"I know that," I nodded. We fell into a short, slightly awkward silence. "I should really head out. And you should too before the librarian comes back."
He let me go and helped me up. I grabbed my bag, pulling it over my shoulder. "I'll see you after your dance class?" he asked.
I bit back a smile and narrowed my eyes at him. "How do you know I have dance class right now?"
"Because it's the only class we don't share. So when I have gym, you have dance. And," he sighed while standing up and pulling his bag over one shoulder. "I know your schedule," he winked, pecking my lips.
"Bye, Caden."
"Bye, Venus," he grinned, leaning against the shelf while I turned around and left.
Why and how does he know my entire schedule?

I was currently hiding in the bathroom. Not with Caden, just me. Actually, I'm hiding from Caden.
His offering to drive me, take me to his house, in the middle of the week and in front of everybody is just too risky. And I got too nervous. I was sitting in the last stall, hoping to wait him out. I mean, if I just don't come out, he would eventually leave, right? And I've already been here for ten minutes.
I heard the door open and I quickly pulled my feet up, hugging my knees. They opened the first door, then it echoed shut. Then the second. And when they got my door and it wouldn't open, I heard his voice. "Venus?"
"No," I replied. I looked up when I heard him in the stall next to mine. He stood on the seat and found me. "Hi," I smiled.
"What are you doing? I've been waiting for ten minutes," he huffed. "Open the door," he nodded. I hesitantly opened it and he walked over, pulling me out of the stall, holding my bag in his hand. "Where were you?"
"I got too nervous," I groaned. "Any of the students could see, Roman could see, Remy could see. I couldn't just get into your car like that."
"Well, the only people here now are the art students who are staying back for a project. Nobody is coming to the parking lot, come on." He tugged at my hand but my feet didn't move. "Trust me," he nodded.
I sighed in defeat and followed him out while he held onto my bag for me.
The second we stepped out of the bathroom, he turned to me. "We're going to sprint."
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"Just in case. Ready?"
"Caden!"
He shot me a pleading look. "Please?" he whispered.
"Fine," I huffed. And then we did just that. Sprint to his car.
He unlocked the car and we both slipped inside quickly. He started the car and quickly backed out of the spot and then started driving. I panted, catching my breath while he did the same as he drove.
"I'm going to kill you," I huffed, closing my eyes and leaning my head back. I grabbed my bag and pulled out my water bottle, having a few sips. I realized his bag was already in the back and clearly, he needed water too. "Here."
He glanced at me, letting out a soft laugh before drinking from it and then handing it back to me.
"You're insane, Caden. This was your plan? This is what I was supposed to trust and put my faith in?"
"It worked, didn't it?"
I opened my mouth to argue but what could I say? He's right. It did work.
"You're so stupid," I shook my head, looking out of the window. "Tell me something, Caden."
"What, Venus?"
"What happens if your mother decides to come back early with Axel? Or if your dad comes home early?" I propped up my elbow on the controller and held my chin in my palm.
"Then I'll keep you hidden. Or Mr. Hilton will keep my parents distracted while I take you back."
"Back where?"
"Back home."
"You can't take me. What if someone sees you dropping me off?"
He glanced at me. "Then I'll drop you off at a safe distance from your house and follow you."
My brows furrowed in question. "Why will you follow me?"
"To make sure you get home safe, why else? I know Cadara is safe for the most part, but it's my responsibility to drop you home safely if I'm the one taking you somewhere."
I watched him as he drove, trying to decide how I felt about his answer.
"Actually, not just when I'm the one taking you somewhere. Generally, I have to keep you safe."
"And why is that?"
He looked at me briefly before putting his hand down on my thigh with a smack.
"Ouch," I said.
He rolled his eyes. "It's my responsibility because you're mine for the most part. At least in the physical aspect. And if something happened to you, then I wouldn't have your kisses anymore. And I don't want that," he explained while his thumb started softly stroking my skin.
I don't know if he's realizing that he's doing that.
"Caden?"
"Hmm?"
He doesn't.
"I'm not yours. In any aspect."
"Of course you are. Just how I'm yours. Right, Venus?" he sang.
Is he really mine? In any aspect other than the physical one?
