A huge smile formed on her face when the invigilator instructed me to sit with her.
"Hey." Jade said loudly to me then covered her mouth afterwards in realization that the invigilator was still standing close.
"You're in art class, right?" I asked quietly. She nodded, still smiling.
Sometimes, we had mixed classes with art and commercial students. Subjects like English and mathematics that everyone offered but I hadn't even noticed Jade in any of the classes.
During tests or exams in my school, the students are reshuffled so that you wouldn't have your friend sitting close to you. You may even have a Jss 1 student as your seatmate.
This is the last day of our test. The first two days, my seatmates were students from Sss 3. My other tests had gone well and I only hoped this one will go well too.
The Invigilator handed our question papers to us. Art students were writing Literature while science students were writing geography.
It was quite easy and I finished before time. I only had a little problem with the drawing. I cross-checked my work multiple times to make sure I didn't make any mistake. After the day I left his class, my geography teacher told me I should never attend his class again and that I'd fail. I told my dad.
Dad told me to make sure I read and write well in his tests and examination. If I still fail, I can demand my script and the man would be queried.
The Jadesola Folarin sitting close to me is different from the one I know. This one was serious. I admired the way her pen moved smoothly on her answer sheet. It seemed like she doesn't even pause at all.
"Easy, isn't it?" I asked calmly.
She didn't answer me. She only raised her palm up a little as if telling me to wait. This made me smile. Did she cram what she was writing? Dad said people who cram tends to forget when they are disturbed. Most of them sits quietly until the exam. Literature is a very broad subject. If cramming works well for her, then it's cool.
We wrote two more subjects and that was the end of our test. I was relieved.
"What were you saying before?" Jade asked me.
"I was asking if it was easy. Did you cram?"
"Yes, I did." She said like she didn't care.
"What if you forgot. Why didn't you just read, like read to understand?" I asked again.
She shrugged; "I don't know how to read, this is the only form of reading that works for me."
Ain't people just weird?
"Let's go home together." Jade said as she carried her bag.
"Mide?" I told her. She knew I always went home with Mide.
"Together." She said slowly.
"Oh, the three of us? Okay." I said.
Mide hadn't finished writing so we had to sit somewhere and wait for him. Since I resumed again, Mide and I haven't had chance to talk about the kiss. It seems like we weren't ever going to talk about it. He didn't start acting in any awkward way. He just acted normal. Like nothing happened. Maybe it was just an innocent kiss.
An innocent kiss..
Innocent kiss...
Kiss..
