Lex's POV
"Bye dudes, see you later", Charlie says. Owen and Jeremy make their way to their cars. "Are you okay?" I ask Charlie. He sticks the key in the ignition and turns on the car. "Yeah, why?" he laughs. "Okay ... You just seemed really sassy around Owen today," I told him. He sighs and says, "Well yeah I mean I don't want to see my little sister wearing my best friend's clothes, that's all." I give him a sheepish 'okay' and pull out my phone.
"Hey, we're stopping by Trader Joes to pick up food for tonight. What time is Jack coming over?" Charlie asks. "Oh, he's supposed to come over right after school. You can just drop me off at the apartment, we'll be fine." I say with an assuring smile. He looks at me then looks back to the road and thinks for a minute. "Okay fine. But no funny business alright?" I look at Charlie in annoyance. "C'mon Charlie. Really? You know me. Besides, we're just studying." I say. He laughs lightly and heads home.
"Bye Charlie! I'll try to clean up as much as I can," I tell him. "It's okay Lex you should study, I'll just hurry up. I'll be home in like an hour max," Charlie says. "Oh okay, see you," I say. I walk towards the building and try to find my keys. "Bye bean," I hear. I stop and turn to Charlie and see him smirking. "Did you just call me-" I start. Charlie interrupts. "I'm bringing it back," he says referring to the nickname. I smile as I watch him drive off and I make my way into the building.
When I get to the apartment, I see Jack on his phone, leaning against the wall next to the door. He then notices me and says, "Finally! I've been waiting out here for years." I laugh at his joke and unlock the door for us. "Oh when we're done studying, you're helping me clean up this place. Charlie's friends are coming over," I tell Jack. We grab some snacks from the pantry and fridge. "Owen and Jeremy?" He asks. "Yup," I say, popping the 'p'. We then head to my room and start studying. "I love your room," Jack says. "I know," I laugh, "You say that every time you come over." (Picture above^)
I take out my laptop and textbooks. "It's just such a vibe," Jack says as he looks around. "Okay," I sigh, "Where are Valence electrons located?" I ask. "Ummmm," Jack thinks. He looks up, trying to concentrate. "Woah you have glow in the dark star stickers on your ceiling?" He asks, so surprised. I lightly giggled and replied, "Yes, now valence electrons!" He continues to think. "Oh!" He says, "On the outermost energy level of the atom." I flip the flashcard over revealing the answer. "Correct!" I tell him.
After half an hour of studying, we start to clean up the living room. "So what time is Charlie coming back?" Jack asks. I look at the clock as it read 3:00. "He should be home around 3:45," I assure him, knowing he'd be a little late, "Why?" Jack picks up the last pillow on the floor and places it on the couch. "Wanna watch a compilation of the greatest touchdowns ever by the Saints?" He asks. "Sure! Just lemme do these dishes real quick," I say. I put on the rubber gloves and layout the drying rack. As I'm washing the dishes, I feel a pair of two arms hug me from behind. "Jack what are you doing?" I laugh. "I'm just giving you a hug," he replies, cheekily. "You're warm," Jack says.
I laugh again and finish cleaning the rest of the dishes with Jack clung to me. I take off the rubber gloves and attempt to turn around. "Jack you're going to have to let go at some point," I say, still trying to move. He brings his hands to my hips and slowly turns me to face him. "Yeah, at some point," Jack says softly. His hazel eyes pierce through mines. He focuses on my lips, then back to my eyes. "Can I kiss you?" Jack says, almost in a whisper. I give in and nod my head. He slowly leans in and connects our lips. I move my arms and rest them on his shoulders. One of my hands makes its way towards his hair. We move in sync. His hands pull me closer to his body.
"What. The. Actual. Fuck." We instantly pull away and turn towards whoever just spoke. There Charlie is, holding 3 Trader Joe's bags in his arms, one on the ground from dropping it at the sight of his little sister kissing her childhood best friend in the kitchen. I look at the clock. 3:27. "Uhm so you're home early," I say trying to start a conversation. Charlie doesn't say anything. A bag of chips fall on the floor from the grocery bag and Charlie still doesn't move. "I think I'm gonna go," Jack insists. "Oh no uhm," Charlie hesitates, trying not to make this awkward, "Here Jack help me with these bags first."
Jack rushes to Charlie and takes the bags out of his arms. We then put all the food where it belonged in silence. "I should head home now," Jack says. He heads to the front door but I stop him. "Jack," I say. He stops and turns around, "Yeah?" I clear my throat. "You left your bag in my room," I say softly. "Oh right," he says. He quickly grabs his bag and I open the front door for him. "See you tomorrow?" He asks me. "Yeah," I say. He says bye to Charlie and I close the door on his way out.
"Explain," Charlie states. I begin to panic and stutter, "I-It just kind of happened you know? Like one second I'm doing the- the dishes and the next I'm kissing Jack!" I start to pace around the living room. "What did I get myself into Charlie? This is going to ruin our friendship! What was he thinking?! NO, what was I thinking?" I plop onto the couch and put my face in my hands. Charlie sighs and sits next to me. "You weren't thinking," Charlie says softly. He starts to rub his hand up and down my back, trying to calm me down I guess. "Why Jack? Of all the boys I could've kissed today, why did it have to be Jack?" I ask. "You were in the heat of the moment," Charlie replies. I lean my head on my older brother's shoulder for comfort.
"You're not mad?" I ask him. He sighs, "I mean sort of but it was just a kiss right? It didn't mean anything?" He asks. I shrug, "I don't know. It shouldn't have meant anything. Do you think it meant anything to him? What if he thinks the kiss meant something. I don't even know if it meant anything to me yet! I mean it can't right? We're best friends for God's sake! What if he-" Charlie cuts me off, "Lex calm down," he sighs, "He probably realized he made a mistake and you guys will get over this." He assures me.
I lift my head off of Charlie's shoulder. "Okay," I say, "I'm going to go change into some sweats. What time are the guys coming over?" I ask him, "Around 4," He replies. "So they'll be here in like 20 minutes." I head to my room, while Charlie prepares the snacks and gets everything ready. The Kiss meant nothing. I tell myself.
I come out of my room wearing, black Nike sweatpants, tucked into white Nike sox, Charlie's old sweatshirt, and my ugg slip-on's. "Set up Netflix and put out some blankets on the couch, would you?" Charlie asks. I give him a head nod and did what I was told. I sit at the breakfast bar table and watch Charlie pour some chips into a large bowl. "I'm just glad it wasn't some sort of douche bag you know?" Charlie says and I agree, "Did he have bad breath?" he asks jokingly. I smile, pick up popcorn from a bowl and throw it at him. "Oh shut up already. I'm over it." He laughs and eats the popcorn that I threw at him.
Just then we hear a knock on the door. "I'll get it," I tell Charlie. I open the door to be faced with Owen and Jeremy. I move aside and let them in. "Nice slippers," I tease Jeremy. He had yellow rubber duck slippers on that quacked every time he took a step. "Don't make fun of me. I paid good money for these," Jer argues. "You wouldn't believe how many dirty looks we got when we got onto the elevator," Owen says. We all laugh.
"Alright boys, and Lex," Charlie includes, "Let's get this thing started!" The guys make their way to the living room while I go over to the kitchen to grab the snacks. I place myself in between Charlie and Jeremy, leaving Owen by himself on the other part of the L couch. "What are we watching?" Jeremy asks. "The Extraction?" Charlie suggests. We all agree and start the movie.
A couple of minutes in, I lay my head on Charlie's lap and extend my legs on to Jer's lap. "Can I lay like this?" I ask them. "Sure," Charlie and Jeremy say at the same time. I catch Owen looking at me with a smile on his face. "Hi, Owen can I help you?" I ask him jokingly. "You are so weird," he says. I scoff and pretend to be hurt. "Charlie look," I say, "I'm being bullied." Charlie looks down at me and I signal for him to stand up for me. He playfully rolls his eyes. "Owen, don't bully the baby," Charlie says. "Yeah Owen, don't-" I stop for a moment and realize what Charlie just said. "Heyyyyyy," I say. We all laugh and continued to watch the movie.
