Comfort

I woke up the next morning with Cedric's hand still holding mine. Did he notice during the night that I was having a nightmare? I turned my head to face him and he was fast asleep, and oddly enough it was comforting to see his chest rise and fall with his breaths; knowing that he is alive and well made me feel at ease. "Good morning love." I whispered not wanting to wake him. I stroked his hand with my thumb feeling the warmth that told me he was really alive.  He smiled in his sleep, turned his head towards me, and that made my heart go warm and fuzzy. I smiled back because his reaction was so adorable, and I didn't care that my arm was going numb from keeping it held out for so long. I was grateful that he was okay and that my nightmare was just a nightmare. Even though I knew Professor Dumbledore was right; Voldemort could be out there waiting to come find me because of my gift to restore life. I wondered what he would do with it if he did find me. Would he threaten Cedric's life again to get me to join the Death Eater's? That's a question I didn't want to know the answer to. I wasn't too scared, because I knew I had Cedric, my family, and friend to protect me. In fact, I knew we would protect each other.

Cedric and I were well enough to leave the hospital wing and say goodbye to the students from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons. When the students saw us come from the hospital wing, jaws dropped and there were audible gasps. "I thought he was dead." "I heard the Weasley girl brought him back from the dead." "What is going on?" Not every response was negative. There were smiles, nods; and applause. The Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs were the most enthusiastic about our arrival. "I love you." Cedric smiled at me and kissed me in front of the entire student body because I knew he was proud that I was his. "I love you," The applause grew louder as I kissed him back, we both walked together and sat at the front of the Great Hall with our friends. Professor Dumbledore smiled at us like a proud father, "What a year this has been, we would have suffered a terrible loss if it weren't for the heroic actions of a brave witch from Gryffindor house. She and Mr. Diggory have been an example of love being more powerful than magic. I'm sure they are not the only ones who have made connections this year.

There is something I wish to tell you that the Ministry of Magic doesn't wish me to tell, Voldemort has returned. He murdered Cedric Diggory, but Lydia Weasley has rescued him from death. I do ask you leave the two of them be from this matter because it's very trying for them. Now the fear we felt reminds me, reminds us that we may come from different tongues, our hearts beat as one. In light of recent events, the bonds of friendship we made this year will be more important than ever." The wise words of our headmaster touched our hearts and I saw people getting teary eyed, and I was one of those people. I snuggled next to Cedric and he kissed me on the forehead. "What a year this has been indeed." I said lacing my fingers with his. "In what way?" he asked holding my hand. "A lot happened; the tournament, learning about a power I didn't know I had, falling in love with you," my eyes filled with tears. "Almost losing you." My voice broke. Cedric held me and stroked my hair to calm me down. "But you saved me," he gently nudged my face up to look at him and he smiled at me. "I'm forever grateful to you for saving me, Lyddie. I will always be there for you my love." he stroked my cheek and he kissed me lovingly. His words melted my sadness away and I felt nothing but happiness. I touched his face as we kissed. "I love you so much Ced. I will always be there for you as well, your the most important person in my life." I kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you for coming into my life." "My pleasure." he smiled his cute smile. He thought for a minute, and then he smiled mischievously, "Are we still on for that one on one game of Quidditch this summer?" "You're on," I gave him a quick kiss and we held hands and ran down the hall to watch the Beaubatons carriage and the Durmstrang boat leave. As we watched, he put his arms around me and I held his hands, and we kissed. Memories of this year flooded my mind: the happy ones and the sad ones. With my new power I could protect the people I loved like I saved Cedric.
Who knew the viaduct of Hogwarts could be the most romantic place in the world?
This year was the most interesting year yet, it was wonderful and heartbreaking at the same time. Best of all, Cedric and mine connection grew stronger and together we were unstoppable.

Because our love was more powerful than any magic.
