Chapter 28

                                    

                                          
Third person POV
Spencer runs to me and kneels down. He checks my pulse and calls for an ambulance. He keeps my wrist in his hand to know that I still have a pulse and calls someone else next. "Chief Strauss, I need you to the 6th floor right now. Don't say anything to the others" he says and hungs up. 
                          
Strauss came quickly "What happened?" she asks
"She collapsed. I already called for an ambulance but you need to leave. I'm staying with her" he says
"How can I help?" she asks
"By not saying anything to the others and by finding an excuse for our absence. I know that she wants them to be focused on the case right now and not her. Especially Hotch" he says 
"Ok. I'll call you later for an update" she says
"Ok but hurry and be careful, you're dealing with profilers" he says as she leaves.
                          
Strauss goes back in the car with Aaron and Emily "We are leaving" she says
"Where is Jessie and Spencer?" Emily asks
"They aren't coming with us. I just got an urgent request from Interpol. They requested Agent Grey and dr Reid to consult on an active case that came back on the surface. Agent Grey has already studied about this case and her brother will be working with them closely since he is the leading Agent on the case. They are flying for Spain immediately and they'll be staying for a few days. While they are away, Agent Grey specifically won't be able to have any communications with you or anyone else because she will be in protective custody for those days" she says
"Protective custody?" Aaron asks
"Yes. But this isn't the time to talk about it. We need to be in Seattle" she says
"Of course" he says and he starts driving to the airport.
                          
Some hours later...
I was finally able to open my eyes and the first thing I saw was Spencer. "Hey. How are you feeling?" he asks immediately
"Horrible" I say trying not to start crying. "I heard the doctor" I continue
"I'm sorry" he says and I nod. "The others are still in Seattle. They don't know, only Strauss and I know that you collapsed this morning" he says
"Good. There are three more kids that need them right now. You should be there too" I say 
"I can help over the phone" he says and I nod.
"Thank you for staying" I say
"I should have known when you said to Morgan that your left side is in pain" he says
"No, don't do that. A few minutes wouldn't make a difference for this, right? This isn't on you" I say as a tear escapes my eye
"It isn't on you either" he says but I don't answer.
                          
I was feeling really tired so I closed my eyes a few hours later. Spencer phone rings and he answers almost immediately. "We found all three kids alive. We are on our way to the airport right now. What do you want me to do?" Strauss asks
"When you land, send Hotch to the hospital but don't tell the others yet. And if you go back to the BAU, don't let him go in his office for any reason" he says
"Why?" she asks 
"Because... Jessie let the two pregnancy tests that she took in his office before we were supposed to leave for him to find but he didn't come back so he didn't find them yet" he says
"Oh... Uhm... I will send him to you when we land" she says and hungs up.
                          
Strauss waited until they got back to the BAU safely and called Aaron in her office immediately. "Take a seat" she says closing the door in her office. They both sit down and she takes a deep breath. "Aaron, this morning when I said that Agent Grey and dr Reid were requested by Interpol, I lied" she says
"Why?" he asks immediately
"Because you and the rest of the team needed to be fully concentrated on the case. No distractions" she says
"Distractions?" he asks
"Agent Grey collapsed this morning, right before we left. Dr Reid was here and was the one who called me to come back. We both agreed to keep it until the case was solved" 
"Where is she?" he asks standing up
"She's in the hospital with dr Reid right now. He's going to tell you everything when you get there" she says and immediately he leaves running.
                          
He drove to the hospital as fast as he could and run inside. Spencer had gotten the heads up from Strauss and was already waiting for Hotch in the waiting room. "What happened?" he asks as soon as he spots Spencer
"When I went back to check if she is coming, she collapsed. That's the point when I was almost sure of what was happening because when we came in today she complained about her left shoulder being a little sore but she blamed it on her sleeping position so I didn't pay much attention" he says
"Reid get to the point" he demands
"Jessie had an ectopic pregnancy at 9 weeks which caused her fallopian tube to rupture. They took her in surgery immediately and started with a laparoscopic procedure but there was already too much blood so they had to perform a laparotomy. But the left fallopian tube had too much damage already so they had to remove it" he says.
                          
Tears formed in Aaron's eyes. The only time Spencer saw him be so emotional was when Hailey died. "Only I knew that she was pregnant because I pointed out at her yesterday. She was planning on telling you this morning" Spencer says
"That's why she asked me about Jack having a sibling yesterday. She was already pregnant" Aaron says. He runs his hands over his face and takes a breath. "Where is she?" he asks
"She's in recovery. She fell asleep again an hour ago because she is still pretty exhausted" Spencer answers.
                          
"And who else knows?" Aaron asks
"Only you, me, Jessie and Strauss" he answers and Aaron nods.
"Thank you for staying Spenser" he says. "Go get some sleep now" he continues
"Ok. Let me know if you need anything else" Spencer says and leaves. The nurse took Aaron to my room. 
                          
I wasn't really sleeping because the truth is that I couldn't. So when I heard the door open I thought that it was Spencer. Until I felt another hand wrap around mine. "Aaron?" I ask and I open my eyes
"I'm here. I'm here Jess" he says holding my hand
"I'm really sorry" I say but I can't hold back anymore. "I'm so sorry" I say and I start crying
"It wasn't your fault Jessie. You know that" he says hugging me
"I should have known. I should have noticed that I was late. I should have checked earlier. At least this way, I wouldn't have lost my half future kids" I say crying
"Please, Jess, don't do this. It wasn't your fault. No one blames you" he says holding me
"You're not mad?" I ask
"Of course I'm not mad" he says and kisses my head. "I'm not mad" he repeats.
                          
"How did the case go?" I ask trying to change the subject in order to stop crying
"Great. We got all three kids back unharmed" he says
"Good. Who was the unsub?" I ask
"A teacher. All three kids were good students so he wanted to 'save' them from their families because he felt that they weren't enough to get them where they should be" he says
"Harvard or Yale?" I ask
"Himself. He thought that he was the greatest in the world and that's why they wanted to keep him in a lower position. To keep him contained. And he didn't want the kids to go through that too" he says
"Oh wow..." I say
"Yeah..." he says.
                          
"I'm sorry Aaron" I say again
"Please don't apologize again" he says
"No, I should. My body had one job and somehow I managed to screw this up" I say
"No. If Reid was still here, I would have made him tell you the statistics on how often this happens" he says causing me to chuckle.
"Stop, don't make me laugh now" I say and he chuckles too.
"We'll get through this together, alright? I'm here. I'm not leaving you. Everything will be alright" he says
"Thank you" I say and he kisses me
"I love you so much" he says still holding me close to him
"I love you too" I say.
