By noon the diner was deserted. The bodies of Lucy and Roger O'Neil had been taken to the morgue. The forensic team headed back to their lab in Phoenix with the body parts from the freezer. The FBI agents made themselves at home in Warren's office while they broadcasted the descriptions of Mike and Martha to agency offices across the country.

Warren met up with Dan in front of the office.

"Any luck?" Warren asked him.

"Nope. I even stopped in at a couple stores and asked if they'd seen them." Dan replied, a tired look on his face.

"We'll get 'em. We've got to." Warren told him, a look of determination on his face. He looked in the window. The FBI agents were busy on the phone and radio. Sally had taken a seat at Warren's desk and was working on some paperwork. If only she liked me. He thought, I can't stand feeling this way. I want to tell her but I can't bring myself to, especially right now. Mike and Martha were killing those people right under my nose and I didn't see it. I just didn't see. How could she feel anything for me when I let this...

"You alright?" Dan asked, stirring him from his thoughts.

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Fine." Warren replied, his eyes resting on Sally a second longer.

"You need to get over yourself and go after that girl. I know you like her." Dan told him with a small smile.

"What makes you think I like her?" Warren asked his friend defensively.

"I'm not stupid Warren. Besides, I know you. Last time you had that look was when you were chasing after that nurse in Vietnam." Dan replied with a laugh.

"I was not chasing after that nurse. I just wanted to ask her something. And Sally wouldn't feel that way for a guy like me. She's too high class." Warren said, trying to keep a straight face.

"Oh what did you want to ask her? 'Can you give me a full bodied check up to make sure I'm all there? I'm too scared.' She works with you. If she can stand that, then she's not too high class." Dan said laughingly.

"Oh shut up." Warren told him, his voice full of humor. If Dan knows, maybe Sally does too. Maybe it wouldn't be so hard to tell her, he told himself. But she knows about the murders. She knows I could have stopped them if I'd only looked. Opened my eyes, the other voice chided.

"I'm gonna drive towards Unionville. They hid the cars out there, maybe they have a hide-out around there too. I might find their car or Lucy's and that'll at least give us an idea where to look." Warren said to Dan.

"Yeah, I'll go with you," Dan said, "You're my best friend. I don't want to be charged with your murder 'cause I let you go alone and they ended up killing you."

"Thanks." Warren smiled lightly, picturing it.
