Chapter 11

“How do I look?” River calls out cheerfully, wearing the most revealing pin-up dress she could possibly find, and her naturally curly hair twisted on top of her head in a classic beehive. They’re going on a vacation to Baltimore in 1961. The doctor shakes his head disapprovingly.

“I like it, but I’m not so sure what the sixties will think,” He remarked, tossing a warm jumper in her direction with a wink. River rolls her eyes at you behind his back. “What’s so funny?”

“Oh, nothing, dear. Lets get going.” She gets out between giggles. The doctor starts bringing River‘s suitcases outside, while she says goodbye. “Bye, sweetie. Have fun!” she kisses you on both cheeks. You turn to go get something to eat, when the doctor spins you around and hugs you tightly.

“Not too much fun!” He winks, then kisses you on the forehead.

“Thanks da-”

“Oh, and don’t you even think about moving the TARDIS, young lady. I convinced River to part with her vortex manipulator, so if you move the TARDIS, we’ll be stranded here. Keep her invisible, just in case we get any nasty visitors.  Don’t eat all the custard, and leave some tea for me when we get back. If you need us, we’ll be here, just check the scanner, oh, and If-” He gets cut off by your unexpected hug.

“I’ll be fine, dad. Have fun.” You smile, shoving him out the door. Oh, you had no intentions of taking the TARDIS for a spin, you had much more important things to do. You wave them off as they head down the dimly lit street, River leading the way and the doctor trailing behind with all her luggage. You breathe in the warm spring air and clear your mind. This is it.

You look at your reflection in a floor length mirror. Your TARDIS blue converse , a little reminder of home, peep out from your trench coat and your face is covered in the shadow of your brown fedora. Very River-esque, you admit, but perfect for the occasion. You begin to sneak into River’s closet, but, remembering that you’re alone in the TARDIS, you just walk right in. After quite a bit of searching through her seemingly endless closet, you finally find what you’re looking for. There, on a feminine, delicate looking table, sits your only hope of this plan working.

After you strap the vortex manipulator on your wrist, you stop in the doctor’s drawing room and take one of his prized possessions. The final page of the book that helped him save Amy and Rory, only to have them torn out of reach. This page had been ripped out, since the doctor hates endings. It was a forward written by Amy, the book’s publisher. You search Amy’s publishing company, which turned out to be pretty successful. It opened a year after Amy and Rory were sent back, 1951, and closed in 2010, when Amy died of a broken heart, living after Rory had died too.

You decide to land at the office building where Amy works, not knowing where they lived now. You set the manipulator to 1955. They probably would have calmed down after 5 years without the doctor. You type in the address of the office and then you’re off, through time and space.
