Two months until graduation
Come on, Virgil. Breathe in. And out. Okay. Okay!
This isn't that scary. You're just going back to school, two months before graduation.. After leaving a lunatic asylum.
Maybe it's a little scary.
"Right, go on in. I've spoken to your headmaster and he has made sure that all of your teachers know where you were, and that you might be a little hyperactive because you never finished your treatment." My father pats my back and gently nudges me towards the school.
"B-bye Dad." I mumble, walking towards the building, head down.
I breathe in again and pull open the door to the building. I'm here half an hour early because the headmaster wanted me to have a meeting with my homeroom teacher. The corridors are eerily quiet and I can hear my shoes click-clacking on the floor.
I have a black leather sachel over my shoulder and am wearing the classic school uniform sleezily, with the top button of my shirt not even done up and untucked.
I stop outside my homeroom door. Glancing up and down it. Then, I knock.
"Come in!" I hear Mrs Gladstone yell. She's really nice, probably one of the nicest teachers here. I'm lucky that I got her as my homeroom teacher.
I'm not even tall enough to touch the doorframe. And I'm 17. That's honestly embarrasing. I could probably smack it if I jumped, but I'm not going to try.
I enter the room and am immeditely hit by nostalga as I see the rows of wooden desks and chalkboard.
"Virgil!" She gasps happily before moving quickly accross the room and pulling me into a hug. "Have you gotten taller?"
I laugh slightly. "My classroom has been so quiet without you." She says sarcastically, walking over to the chalkboard and writing the date in. September 3rd 1887.
"Did you make any friends while you were gone?" She asks, turning around from the board.
"Y-yeah, act-actually. There were f-five other kids in m-my r-room. L-Logan, Patton, Rom-man, Remus and J-Janus."
"They sound nice. I know you aren't a fan of people commenting on it, but I'm getting the feeling that your stutter is a bit worse than it was in April." I can only nod.
"If y-you don't m-mind miss, I-I-I'm not sure I wan-want everyone in the class kn-knowing I've been at a luna-lunatic asylum for the last five months. Wel-l, I was on-only there for three- but then the summer holidays an-and-"
"Okay. I understand. Don't worry."
"Th-thanks."Miss tells me where my seat is, and as I'm hooking my bag over the back of the chair, a group of students come in. "Virginn!" One of them hollers. "We've all been so worried about you!"
I perform an awkward smile and pull my sleeves down further.
"Where were you?" Jordan asks, a cocky smile on his face."I'll be back in a moment boys, I need to go grab my lesson plan from room five." Mrs Gladstone says, before leaving and shutting the door. Fuck.
"N-no-wh-where." I reply.
"That's kind of funny. Because I heard a rumour that.." He starts, and then grabs my arm, yanking it towards him and pulling up my sleeve harshly.
