"Come in," she croaked.
Pansy Parkinson slowly stepped into the room wearing a silk, dark blue dress that reached just above her knees.
"Hey," she stated, feeling slightly awkward. "Lily, uh, told me everything. About Diggory and everything with the ministry. Are you, erm...okay?"
Oakley just shook her head, not making eye contact with Pansy. Pansy had never felt so horrible for someone in her life. As much as her and Oakley had hated each other their whole lives, she had been different the past few months. When Adrian broke up with her, Oakley was the only person in the entire school to ask if she was okay. She had been more than civil with her, and she wished she could help her. She wanted to help her, but she didn't know how.
"Is there any way I can help?" Pansy asked, sitting next to Oakley.
"Pansy, it's okay," she sighed. "Unless you have five thousand galleons on hand, there isn't much you can do to help. I do appreciate you talking to me, though. You look gorgeous,"
"Thank you, so do you," Pansy stated. "Wait, did you say five thousand? Isn't Hogwarts tuition ten?"
"Yeah, but my dad put five into a vault for me last summer, so I would need to get five more in the next-" she checked her clock quickly, seeing she had to be in the dressing room in twenty minutes now and the wedding started an hour after that. "Hour and twenty minutes,"
That's when Pansy got an idea. She quickly hugged and bid Oakley goodbye before exiting the room.
Oakley sat for the next twenty minutes in silence before mustering the energy to walk to the dressing room. She slugged over to the room to be met with her mother again.
"There you are, dear," she smiled devilishly. "Reading to get fitted? I hope you like the dress, I picked it out myself considering you didn't want to be involved,"
Oakley couldn't even get herself to make a rude remark back to her mother. She just walked passed her and undressed in the other part of the room. The walls were gray and the room was decorated with cream and gold furniture along with a makeup desk with a large mirror. There was jewelry and perfume for Oakley to chose from lines up across it.
As she pulled the dress onto her body, it fit her perfectly. It was like every dress her mother had ever bought her. Plain. It was a white, satin ballgown with small straps holding up the bodice. The only detail work was where the skirt began: there was a small belt of diamonds circling the dress.
She stared at the jewelry on the table below her. There were lots of options of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and hair clips. Oakley walked away from the table as she just planned on wearing her locket and rings. She pulled on the short, silver heels her mother had picked out before walking back into her mother's half of the room.
"Well, that looks positively- wait..." she walked closer to Oakley picking up her hands, examining them along with her neck. "What is all of this?"
"What?" Oakley murmured. "M-my jewelry?"
"Take this off and put on the things I put out for you. Any of that is better than this," she snarled.
"Cedric gave this all to me," Oakley sighed.
"That explains it," her mother stated with disgust before sitting back down on the couch and checking her watch. "You better hurry up, the ceremony is starting in forty minutes,"
Oakley felt another tear slide down her face as she felt the pain of removing the Diggory family crest ring Cedric had given her for the first time. Removing the locket hurt as well, but nothing hurt as much as when she removed the diamond promise ring he had given her. She was breaking the promise if she married William. She felt herself slowly drop to her knees as she silently cried, thankful her mother couldn't see her as she didn't feel like getting hit at the moment. She was already feeling enough pain.
