It'd been a long night—- so the ride home was a bit quiet. Though I was nearing my house, to pass some time I opened the journal Reese bought.
I'm not sure what gave him this idea, but I appreciate the effort he wanted to put into communication.
"What do I write again?" I asked him.
"Anything you want to say."
I looked down at the blank paper, and began writing.
"i wish we could've spent more time alone, it seems like we never really do. i like being alone with you, but sometimes it makes me nervous. do you think I'm a good girlfriend? i dont feel like I am sometimes.
I erased the last sentence.
"It's hard to know if I'm doing this right. you've dated a lot of people, I haven't. Im afraid to sneak around, im afraid to have sex, im even afraid to just touch each other sometimes. Does that bother you?"
"What you writing about?" Reese interrupted.
"Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the journal? It's stuff that I don't bring up to you."
"But I'm excitedddd. I'm driving and you get to write."
"You can write when you get home, and we'll trade for the first time when I see you tomorrow morning. But for now, what I'm writing is my business."
"WhAt I'm WRiTinG is My BuSinEss." He mocked me quietly.
"Shut up." I said, continuing to write.
As we pulled up to my house, I felt glad that this long stressful night was ending, but a little sad that my plans with Reese were ruined.
"You should get inside. I told my mom I'd have you home at a decent hour."
Sighing, I leaned over and kissed his cheek.
"Don't be acting all cute now, go inside." he mumbled.
"I don't wanna go yet."
"Sierra.."
"I'll see you in the morning I guess. Be ready to trade your journal with me." I told him.
"I will, go inside."
I opened my door to get out, but Reese stopped me.
"I love you Sierra."
"I-I..love you too."
This is something we say often...why does it feel so different now?
"Good night."

When I got home, I tried to enter as quietly as possible. Sure, my parents knew I was out— but I didn't want to wake them or Noel.
Just as I was opening the front door, I spotted my dad in the hall with a bowl of cereal.
"I was hoping that was you." He said, as I closed the door behind me.
"What are you doing awake?"
"I worked up an appetite putting your mom to sleep. You know how that goes."
