Chapter 32 | Elektra's Letter

Start from the beginning

The one thing that Elektra had been told for most of her life was the fact that her and Sirius were extremely alike and now they both had started to think in the same way too (apart from the flirtatiousness of course, she had none of that!) "Let's just get back to mine from here since it's nearest. We'll have to trek across London though 'cause I have no muggle money for the Underground." El whispered to Harry as they walked round a corner and into Diagon Alley. They had just landed from the Port key outside of a shop between Knockturn Alley and Diagon Alley which caused for quite the fright! Luckily it was nearly Boxing Day, and the streets were quiet for the night so they didn't have to battle more Death Eaters or any strange people in Knockturn...
"Can you get Alaric to deliver a letter to them or do you think Sirius will come back home?" Harry asked as they headed back down a snowy Diagon Alley, looking like they'd been in a war (it definitely felt like it.) El was freezing beyond belief since she had been in the ocean and Harry had dried blood dripping from his head. They looked a mess! "I'll send Remus a letter just incase my dad's already there. So at least he'll know and can tell him if not." El had completely forgotten what had taken place tonight before everything went South. Her father was clearly bisexual and was smitten with Remus, who she couldn't tell if were the same as Sirius or if he was into men only. She always assumed he just didn't want relationships but now his loneliness had made sense. El worried about her own budding relationship with Harry and thought about his small outburst at the conversation El had tried to bring up. He seemed distant with her and it worried El that maybe her newfound dangerous power would scare him away... She brushed the idea off, as after all, he'd been through a lot within the last few hours. The topic of Voldemort was something she didn't want to deal with anymore, but she knew he would be after the both of them still. Hopefully adults could take over and she could hibernate in her attic for the rest of the holiday. No more adventuring, no more sneaking out. If they found them so easily at the Burrow, they could find her elsewhere too. El looked to her hands, remembering the power that was running through her as if she was her very own lightning bolt. As if electricity was running through her in a warm and exciting way. It had finally found its new home in Elektra.

An hour or so went by and Kingsley Shacklebolt had arrived at the Burrow well past midnight. "Can you two give us details of what the Death Eaters looked like?" Kingsley asked sternly, as he sat down on an opposite chair to Remus and Sirius at the kitchen table that was filled with mince pies, empty cups and a new steaming hot pot of tea. Christmas hats hung from chairs and empty Christmas crackers under the table. The remnants of one heck of a party, Kingsley thought to himself as he wrote down with his quill the details of what Remus was describing but Sirius didn't have the patience, "They all look the same, Kingsley! Black cloaks and masks since they're all complete cowards... There's probably a dozen and more of them who fit the same bloody description." Remus sighed heavily, knowing there was no point trying to persuade or calm Sirius. Arthur spoke up from the end of the table but just quietly enough so that the Weasley children and Jada (who would have been listening from the top of the stairs) couldn't hear, "Long platinum blonde hair on one. Think we both know who that is Kingsley." Kingsley nodded slowly, as Tony muttered, "Malfoy is it? Never liked the fella. Would always request me to do his banking instead of the goblins." Anya, who was sat next to him looking nervous as El was like her second daughter, rubbed the back of Tony's head gently, "Oh, I hope they're okay... on Christmas too." She sadly told the table, as she sipped her tea that Molly had poured. "They both deserve the world when they get back home. And they will get back home, Sirius." She reminded him, smiling reassuringly at the father who appreciated her motherly warmth despite how she may have been feeling. Sirius nodded, sighing a deep breath whilst rubbing his temples, "Why would they take them?" He asked, looking up at Kingsley with anger radiating out of him. Sirius already knew the answer but needed to hear it from an Auror for himself. "If Pettigrew is telling the truth about you-know-who gaining power and the Death Eaters are starting to meet again, on top of a dangerous artefact going missing, those two offer a lot to you-know-who if he has returned." There was a long pause, everyone silent with dread and fear. They could hear the silent whispering from the children upstairs as Molly perked her ears up, quickly rolling her eyes, "Weasleys! I thought I told you all to stay out of the way? We can hear you from down here!" The whispering stopped abruptly when Molly shouted up the stairs with a few empty mugs in her hand. "I'd like to hope that Voldemort hasn't made his return but if it's going to be like the last time-" Kingsley started but Sirius cut in quickly, "It feels like it did the last time."

Suddenly as if someone was listening to their prayers, a beautiful white and brown barn owl swept down from the cool winters air and violently tapped at the window with a letter in his beak. Sirius hurriedly got up from the table, recognising the bird instantly, "It's Elektra's owl!" He breathed out, his dinner jacket flowing behind him as he rushed to open the window to let Alaric in. The owl swooped in, did a flyby once round the kitchen and quietly landed on an empty kitchen chair. Shaking its feathers from the snow. Remus took the letter out from the bird's mouth and immediately tore it open after seeing his name scribbled on it. He read it out loud to the table,

"I must warn you that the contents within this letter are not for the faint of heart. But on a positive note, you'll be pleased to know that both myself, Harry and Newt are alive and residing at Grimmauld Place."

Sirius felt his heart start to unclench somehow, as he let out a big sigh of relief. Molly and Anya put their hands over their hearts in a motherly way as Remus carried on,

"Everyone needs to know as soon as you get this that Voldemort has returned and Harry duelled him on the beach from my vision. He had the necklace which led him there. He forced me to tell him where the energy was hiding but I didn't. I touched it instead and now it has found its new hiding place with me. I'm OK. Please only let certain people hear the following information-"

'I KILLED PETER PETTIGREW' was sprawled out in capital letters, ink blots surrounding it. Remus read the words over and over again in his mind, panic settling in as Sirius raced round to read it himself not liking Remus' long pause. Sirius snatched the letter out of his hand, pacing the kitchen as Arthur kept asking what was wrong. Sirius heartbeat picked up fearing the aftermath of this, but part of him had never been prouder of his daughter. Elektra Black was one badass girl, he thought to himself, relieved that they were both alive. How they had managed to escape Voldemort was beyond him. "Kingsley. Where's Pettigrew?" Sirius bluntly asked, staring daggers at him. Remus looked up his way too, curious to know the information. "She's just confirmed Voldemort's return and you're asking me about someone who's locked away in Azkaban?" Kingsley snapped, stress filling his mind as he thought of a million ways he was going to announce this to Fudge- who wouldn't believe him for a second. Sirius aggressively slid the letter towards Kingsley, motioning him to read it. He'd escaped? Sirius thought hard trying to understand what went wrong. They knew he was a rat, how did this happen?

His eyes widened in shock as he read the words on the piece of parchment, "Impossible." Kingsley breathed out, not believing it for a second as he stared up at Sirius. Remus finally snapped, anger filling him up this time, "IMPOSSIBLE? Can any of you do your bloody jobs properly? She's KILLED him, Kingsley. KILLED HIM. A fifteen year old GIRL." The three men went quiet as Molly gasped quietly, water filling her eyes at the news, "Sirius, you need to get to them this instant." She demanded, pointing her finger at him as if he were still a boy. Remus snatched the letter back out of Kingsley's hands, getting up himself, "I'll come too. Molly would you mind feeding Alaric something and sending him back in the morning?" Molly nodded her head quickly, as Arthur got up before they left via Floo Powder, latching onto Remus' hand, stopping him, "Both of them will have to face the Ministry. We won't say anything about Pettigrew until she does herself, but please Remus, inform them that they'll have to get their stories straight. They're in for one hell of a ride." Remus nodded his head quickly, heartbeat racing out his chest. Why couldn't this have happened to him? He wished that they had taken him instead, not Elektra. Not Harry. They were still children, with hopes and dreams for the future. Lives to live! He couldn't help but get flashbacks to Godric's Hollow, with two twenty one year olds who were taken away far too young and another parent who was forced into somewhere he did not belong at the same age. Remus was praying that this wasn't some form of de-ja-vu and that the lives of Harry and Elektra would be saved for many many more years.

Sirius was already halfway into the fireplace, Floo Powder in hand just as Jada ran down the stairs in a panic and shouted, "Tell El that I love her lots!" Just as Sirius had disappeared into the green flames back to hug his daughter and Godson as tight as he possibly could. Remus followed suit immediately, stuffing El's letter in his patched up trouser pocket, vanishing out of sight, leaving the rest of the Weasley, Shacklebolt and Monet households to dive deep into themselves away from the world, hoping that this was some sick twisted joke and Voldemort had not in fact returned.

The war wasn't over.
