„You're only on my mind when I need you, I don't need to know about what you do when the sun goes down."
Ian was content with using Noah.
He had thought a lot about these recent changes between them last night, and he had come to the conclusion that he was sexually frustrated since he hadn't been with anyone after Gretchen dumped him for Coby. That was why he enjoyed being with Noah, even though Noah resembled every reason why Ian felt like a failure.
Therefore Ian was strictly using Noah for his own pleasure, and that was it. He didn't care about the guy. He only cared when it suited him.
"When you read my lips, I know you feel my cold. But I promise you my heart is made of gold."
Ian took out his earphone as Finn sat down next to him, putting an end to Ian's boredom and loneliness and bringing him happiness instead as he set a plate filled with cookies down in front of them.
"I love you," Ian stated frankly, reaching for one of the cookies after tossing his earphones into his bag.
"Then tell me what's going on between you and Noah."
Ian hesitated for a brief moment, and Finn didn't miss it, his suspicious gaze intensifying.
"What should be going on between us? I want to kill him, he tells me to shut up, and we go on with our day," Ian replied with a shrug, forcing his voice to remain normal. He couldn't tell anyone about what he and Noah were doing, not even Finn.
Finn narrowed his eyes, upset that his best friend was lying to him. "You're always weird around him lately. You're weirder in general. You know you can tell me everything, right?"
"If there were something to tell you, I would, I promise," the blonde replied. "But there isn't. Relax."
Their conversation was interrupted when another pair of parents stepped through the academy's entrance, eyeing the luxurious foyer with wide eyes while Ian jumped up and rushed over to them, eager to get away from Finn.
He felt the slightest bit bad about lying to Finn, but only because it was Finn he was keeping things from. He usually didn't mind being untruthful, especially when it was to his benefit.
"Welcome to Merrol Hines, my name's Kilian Reyes," he greeted the couple with a bright grin, shaking both their hands and smiling at their son. "May I offer you a short guided tour around the academy?"
"Yes, that would be very kind, thank you," the woman replied. Ian led them to Franny and Tegan who politely greeted them as well before starting their guide.
When Ian went back to his seat next to Finn, Hazel was there as well. She was one of the volunteers Noah had arranged, and much to Ian's dislike, she was also the Hazel Julie had mentioned - the one she tried to set Ian up with.
"Ian, you didn't tell me you were going on a date with Hazel," Finn said accusingly once Ian sat down next to him.
Ian glanced at the girl. "Because I didn't know, either."
Hazel just shot him a bright grin. "You don't want to? Julie said you mentioned something about thinking I'm cute, so I thought you were interested."
Ian contemplated if he should just tell her he had never really seen her before, but then Noah joined them by sitting down on the desk in front of them, and Ian shut his mouth.
"You should say yes, Ian," Finn grinned, knowing Ian was uncomfortable but pushing him regardless, as payback for lying to him. "You haven't been laid in four years."
